Hi there,
I recently upgraded to an LG Velvet 5G running Android 10. For the most part, it's been great, but when I set a custom image as the background of the lock screen, the clock font keeps changing from white with no outline to black with a white outline. At first I thought it was just the pictures I was using but it doesn't seem to make any difference; if the text is on a light background it still sometimes appears white and vice versa. I also wondered if it had something to do with the automatic night mode setting because it seems to change around twice a day, but disabling that doesn't make any difference. Is there any way to disable this feature? Google searches and digging through the menu haven't helped so far. I'd be happy with it always remaining one or the other or being able to choose which it is, if that's an option.
Thanks!

Hi, benpeltz.
I'm on a Velvet SD845 not a 5g. But I've noticed it a couple of times.
I had a G8X before it and it happened a lot more so I think it's some kind of LG bug.
Peace,

LOL, no problem.
Oh, may I ask you something regarding your Velvet?
Either I'm going crazy too or experiencing a screen issue.
It seems mine has kind of a greyish screen....I know it has a pretty bright screen, but It seems like the blacks aren't really black.
And when I pull down my notifications bar while having something like a movie, or a YT video or even my Settings, the notification bar gets really stained in grey (with the black around) where there's something written in white. Idk if you can understand what I'm trying to say, it sounds confusing and I'm not a native English speaker lol.
But I can try to record it and post it for you.
Anyway, you're welcome and thank you in advance!
Peace,
NeeF

Have you tried changing it to "Vivid" screen color? Settings->Display->Screen Color. Personally I felt like all the colors were a little washed out before I did that.

I actually did. But it's not just the colors that seem washed out...it's this thing that when I have a black image with bright letters or a white image surrounded by black it makes a grey stain around the white. I'll post s screen record so you can see it. Man, it's killing me not knowing if I'm crazy or it's something normal, although it's pretty ugly and annoying for me. LoL
There you have it. Hope you can understand me better. It not only when pulling the notification bar, but also during videos or even when using a simple black wallpaper with a bright detail in it.

Are you referring to the "frosted glass" effect, where you see the background faintly behind the drop-down menu? If so, I certainly get it with the drop down but I don't get it when I'm playing videos. I'd appreciate a screenshot of that to make sure I'm tracking with you though.

There's a transparent circle on my screen and you can see it wherever you are on the phone but I can't send or I guess post a photo cause I believe its s hardware issue, nfc chip maybe? I think it's in a circle. Is anyone else having this problem? What should I do about it?

Where is it located?
Someone said that it is caused by the vacuum cup that is used to handle the display glass (during the manufacturing process)

I've always had this weird circle problem on my screen but didn't think much of it. It's mostly only noticeable with a solid color, like dark gray. Since I've been running ICS, there's a lot more gray in use, especially on the Contact screen and it's getting to be a little annoying.
Here is a picture of my phone and the image I created for the test. View this image on your phone and see if the circle shows up.
Maybe a relative is trying to contact you from beyond?
I like californiarailroader answer, but It is probably due to a suction cup like was stated before. Co-worker puts one on my protected screen at work and it leaves a similar mark. I would just buff it off

Hello people,
Well, like the title says... I'm having the screen burn-in problem on my Pixel.
It's not affecting only the navigation and notification bars, but some icons and widgets from home screen too.
Is there a way to fix it or minimize it? I tried inverting colors and decreasing the screen brightness, it seems to improve it, but the "ghosts" are still there, even though they are visible mostly on white or grey screens.
It's very disappointing, I don't know what to do. There are some "burn in fixer" apps, but they basically invert the colors too, but I've read that they actually burns all the other pixels. Is it harmful to use them?
Thanks!
Vinicius

No it's a hardware problem..
Invert colors and increase the screen brightness, don't decrease it. You want that invert to make the pixels' lighting decay to match the rest as fast as you can. Do that for a few days and it should even out a bit at the cost if making all your backlighting decay a little (it won't be noticeable, but that is the effect).
There are apps that claim to fix burn in with good reviews on google play. Whether they actually work I not I've no idea.

Screen burn in is a part of OLED displays and it is actual wear of the organic light emitting diode...unfortunately there isn't really a way to fix it but to burn everything else in equally (but the output in general will decrease). The higher the intensity (brighter the screen) the faster it happens.
Unpopular opinion, but I prefer LCD's for this reason (no burn in, flatter power efficiency curve).
I've replaced the screen. Bought a new one from eBay. It is great now! Unfortunatelly it was the only thing to do, and thankfully the Pixel has a great building, you can easily replace the screen without disassemble
the whole device.

How did you replace the screen and how expensive was it?
About 100 USD. There's a lot of videos on youtube teaching how to replace it
So after using the phone for a week, I can see a faint line in the top of the screen which I find quite weird since I haven't used the phone at max brightness nor had any static images for long periods of time. I'd just like to know if this is something other people have experienced with their devices? There's also a slight green hue with white screen which is absent at the bottom of the screen. I only noticed it because of a black wallpaper that showed that there's actually a constant notification bar in the launcher screen.

Ok so you assume that this definitely is a defect? Too bad.. it's really really faint, but since I've seen it, it's always there. The home button from AOD is the most notable, varying by the brightness.

Is it burn in or ghosting?
If you are unsure about if your display is burning in or showing ghosting or both, use a full screen gallery app like QuickPic. Get a gray image and view it. With ghosting you will immediately see the navigation buttons but they will fade (scroll about to a few other images to help it fade), if they don't fade, well the display is probably burning in. You can easily download the checkerboard pattern with a google search.

Thanks for your reply, I also have a suspicion that it might be due to the fact that I used navbar to make the navigation bar entirely black, making the navigation bar "not to burn in" so to say. I disabled that and will see if this has any effect. I also disabled the home button on AOD. If it is burn in it is extremely light still, and only visible with gray backgrounds. I have a feeling that it might be fading away, or my eyes are just starting to give up fingers-crossed, the latter probably the better since I hate to be this nitpicky.. :silly:
Also I haven't read about anyone else suffering from this green tint/hue at the top of the screen. It's not so prominent when I lower the green values or when the screen is dimmer. It's this green stripe that sort of leaves this completely white gap between the bezel. Not very easy to explain but it is easy to distinguish with white backgrounds. It almost looks as if the panel isn't aligned properly and a line of pixels is "out of bounds". Weird if I'm really the only one with this symptom..

It's because that Samsung S8 and S8+, have problems with some wallpapers. I get a faint status bar on for examples some wallpapers, because of their aspect ratio. So if it's that, try out the inbuilt wallpapers as they don't get this problem. Don't get a flip, if it's not that you ment!
Try and take a screenshot. Just say Hi Bixby, take a screenshot.

I wish it was, though the green hue is noticable on completely white and grey backgrounds. I did notice what you mean though when I used a black wallpaper that had this weird bar at the top.
I get that too on some black wallpapers, but if i use a builtin black theme the strange oversaturated dark bar disappears.. and when I take screenshots the bar stays on the screenshot.. so it's not the screen having prob..

if you zoom in on the left part you will notice a slight over saturated bar.. but on the original wallpaper there isn't.. it only comes out when I use wallpapers that are not built in on the theme.
Ok so now I stumbled across this thread on reddit https://www.google.fi/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/682xmo/my_screen_is_a_little_uneven/
I have a strong feeling I'm experiencing the same problem, though at the top there is this white line that goes through the green area just below the green line at the top. Don't know if this splotchiness is a completely different issue..
Update on my situation, I sent the phone to service center through my provider. We'll see if they see what I see. It feels so bad to be away from my Samsung.. I hope they treat it well. Will update once I get updated.
I'm quite surprised but today I got an update on my situation. They swapped the screen and battery so my concerns seem to have been justifiable. I'm sorry that I couldn't replicate or get a picture of my problem.
Now received the phone, new problem arose. The so called "light bleed" that many have been complaining about, but for me it's literally everywhere. It's in the receiver, in all corners and all sides. Damn, such a shame to be sending my phone to service all the time.. Guess I won't be touching any curved screens anymore.
Edit, And to all those who say the light bleed is normal, I didn't have it before the service so I am certain it is a defect or misalignment of the screen.
Got my phone back from the service today. They said that the light bleed is normal and should be expected with "edge" screens. Yet as a precaution they swapped the screen again. Now I have to deliberately look to find the same problem, so on that behalf problem solved. What they didn't manage to fix is the uneven greens. The screen is quite uneven from top to bottom. Darker at the bottom, lighter at top. Really don't want to send this fixed again so I'm pretty sure I just try to live with it and see if it really bothers me with my normal usage, videos etc. I do know that this issue is really common with amoleds (speaking from experience.)

Um... That's exactly why it happened. You need to understand what "burn in" is. It's not burning at all. Simply that amoled pixels lose brightness and color the more time they are used. That's all. So if you have a status bar as black, it will not be losing its brightness but the rest of your screen will. So basically you burned in your screen. Really the screen is always burning in, the key is to make it burn in uniformly. That's why leaving AOD on without it moving would burn the time in, because the lit pixels are decaying while the rest of the screen isnt
Long story short, but this thing calls for some details to make a better description of it.
I took a bike ride today – placed my N10+ in a small, soft fabric bag and put it into my bike's side bag, set my music on, BT with over_the_neck headphones and there I went. Totally unaware of any phone problems, no BT interruptions until I came to a spot where I wanted to try camera and pulled it out.
Turned it on and... a horror, the screen looked totally dark with a deep shade of bloody purple and when looked at different angles it was showing a gold, and green etc glowing shades as if the back of the phone was applied on the front screen. Very dark, I couldn't see much at all, barely recognizing the fonts.
I checked the settings, the screen was still set to adaptable brightness(and it was @ max), accidental touch was on and there was nothing I could do. Was trying to find any RGB settings in Dev. Options – nothing there. And, mind you, the screen dark as hell, squinting my eyes to see any details on the screen. Did reset, twice – still nothing, shut it off and headed home. Factory reset was number one on my mind, but before that, I set my tripod at home to record the screen behavior after turning it on... and..., the reboot was normal, everything looks normal now.
But I'm left with a burning question: WTF was thaaat???
Have you ever heard about OLED/AMOLED screens doing that? Is it a known, fixable problem?
Been using this phone for two days. Now am gonna have to spent hours with their Customer Service that sucks..

Thanks for 'heads up' no, my problem was different, the entire screen opacity went totally dark with very intense colors of purple, burgundy red etc, then in different angles: yellow, silver but very ghostly looking and highly polarized. The display to read from was still there underneath of it, but almost impossible to see, like there was a heavy paint splashed over it. Too bad I couldn't take a pic of that. It will probably happen again, these things usually get worse with time.

And now I can reproduce that "major screen failure" at will - with the glasses. I bought those cheap sunglasses (zzTop) yesterday and just for the bike ridding because they're big to protect my eyes from bug swarms and not for regular use so I had no idea. That was the first time that I saw the display with those glasses. A 'major failure' of my own. I'm still laughing it's funny. Thanks again guys!

Well I fixed some s8+'s on my job and its a bit common seeing screens with that kind of problems. Sadly is a hardware thing and theres no way to fix it than replacing it. I dont know how to say it but its called "Traslucent" in spanish (or at least on my job) but i heard some ppl call it Phantom Screen, Shadow Screen, or Burned Screen. It happens when you let the screen in the same image or repetitive amount of times that the Panel gets that aspect. I read that's because the leds on Amoled screens that cant get back to the right state of color, but you should investigate my words if you want better info lol.
