Can someone tell me when this oreo brick bug myth started? - Nexus Player General

I been running stock oreo for 3 years now and my nexus player is not bricked, plus there are reports or people running stock nougat getting bricked. So I am wondering where this myth started? Edit: shows as participated and I don't know why.

If you have updated your Nexus Player more recently to Oreo the issue that caused the bricking has been fixed (something something Play Store services). But trust me as someone who experienced this on one of my Nexus Players it's no myth about the bricking issue. At this point I've moved on from the Nexus Player. Too many better options with newer faster hardware.

[Q] Nexus 5 4.4.3 issues and continuing with 4.4.2

Hello, I'm a newbie and I don't know if this has been posted before.
I was planning to buy Nexus 5 in couple of days but I heard that after 4.4.3 update, the device is experiencing certain issues with WiFi and some other stuffs. My work solely depends upon WiFi . Some say that phone has become a bit laggy too.
Just wanted to ask when I receive my Nexus 5, is it possible to upgrade 4.4 to 4.4.2? Instead of 4.4.3?

I don't know about others but for me, it actually improved several things, like that bug that let apps running with 0b of ram usage, also battery and I see no lag whatsoever (with any version).
If you reeeeeally want to flash directly 4.4.2 I think that you can either get the older OTA (you can get it here in XDA) or flash the complete stock image 4.4.2, you can download it from Google's official page (Google search nexus stock images).

When I searched "nexus 4.4.2 update download" on google, it showed something like "factory images for nexus devices". Did u mean that?
As I told you earlier, I'm a newbie. I don't understand properly what you are saying. Can you please explain what to do?
And.. Is there any risk? Installing this cause any problem in the phone? Do mention that..

When you buy a new Nexus 5, it should come with Android 4.4.3. If you have any concerns about the bugs and performance, and would rather have 4.4.2, you can flash that on there instead. Completely stock, original version of Android are called factory images.
Since you're buying it new out of the box, it should be no issues nor risks, with downgrading it to 4.4.2. When you buy it, before you do anything to it, please come back to this forum and explore or ask questions about how to do so. Doing any changes to the phone is much easier when you just bought it. So don't do anything to it, don't install any apps or whatever, other than sign in to your Google account on the first start up. Then come back here and we'll do our best to help you out.

I've never had any issues with wifi nor lag even with 4.4.2.
When I took it out of the box I was highly disappointed coming from a S3 and a Note 1. Volume of the speaker was really low and dpi of the screen way to high. Hey, it's a HD screen and I am not blind (yet)
The above issues can be fixed by rooting it and messing with the values. Makes it 100% better.
But, I am still in the process of getting my money back from Google (getting the run around for a month now).
Recording video is useless. In 4.4.2 there was a hiss in the audio which was fixed in 4.4.3. but now recordings sound like they were made underwater. Listen to this with the headphones on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjQYXtU7auM
The optical stabilisation is also bad. The image wobbles and is useless for me as I am grabbing my Note 1 to record video at the moment.
If the above doesn't apply to you, then for the money it is an awesome phone

yeah sorry didn't remember the newbie part haha.
Then if you really don't know what I'm talking about, you should stay stock and in the newest version for your phone (right now being 4.4.3).
Usually there is no risk when installing ROMs or other things, however you should just read a lot right now, read what flash is, bootloader, Roms, root, etc. to learn and reduce the risks you might encounter. You can start with the stickies threads in the general section.
When you learn at least the basics, then you can start to worry about what version you can use, what radio, etc.
But first enjoy your phone as is out of the box, it might be better than you think. ?

I just ordered 2 Nexus 5's off of the Play Store last Friday (June 13th). When they showed up they were running 4.4.2. However, they were the Bright Red 32GB ones as the Black 32GB's were out of stock at the time. It now looks like the Black ones are back in stock so it's possible that they have been updated to 4.4.3

Odds are no. They most likely won't come with 4.4.3 unless they were made after the update came out. Just try settings/about phone/system updates. There is a refresh button try it once a day update should come soon. I flashed back to stock 4.4.2 and it showed up right away. I haven't seen any of the issues some are taking about. Take it all with a grain of salt no one posts abbot no problems... They only complain about issues.

Back to the Future or Kit Kat 4.4

It's been a little over a week now of my downgrade experiment. I really never had a chance to see my Shield LTE running Kit Kat 4.4 and I'm overjoyed with how much more reliable it is now.
The only con I really found was some Bluetooth playback issues with VLC player installing Viper Audio seemed to fix that.
In a nutshell I have lollypop running on My 1st gen Nexus7 was on the Shield and 4.4 on my Moto X. I found on both devices Lollipop added lag and freezing some app issues and restarts. I won't consider Lollypop or ART and plan to skip it completely.
There is no way 5.0 is touching my phone. My 1st gen MotoX has been the best phone I have ever seen, remarkable coming from a phone store manager.
As a off topic I also love Harbormobile.com's $15 tablet plan At&t has better coverage in my area but T-Mobile is 30/10 compared to 10/2 and I get free music streaming At&t didn't offer for twice the price. My application was for road use.
Ok, I give up. A few days later this attempt failed too. I spend more time in the day attempting to unfreeze, control lag and generally fix this tablet than actually using it. I officially call shenanigans on Nvidia and their ability to come up with incredible specs and features but still be utterly useless. Done with Nvidia and perhaps even Android. I find it hilarious that my 1st gen Moto X outperforms this piece of **** seemingly in every way with hundreds of apps on it...

Bro my tablet flies in every day use, and in gaming. On stock Lollipop as well. I have no clue what people are having problems with to be completely honest...but I have literally tried to make this tablet studder with no avail.
My tablet also had lag issues and hang ups. But I read somewhere that doing factory resets helped for many users. So I did a factory reset. That seemed to help a LOT with the lag/system hangs. Also, maybe you should double check the nVidia Shield Power Control options. I kept it on the Optimized setting and it's really smooth with good battery life. I hope your experience improves! =)

OK JRummy apps "App Manager" has a feature called (MinFree Manager) built-in just max out the top slider and leave it running in background. The app has a set at boot option but it won't work on my 4.4 LTE version.
I now have my Shield tablet running well due to this app. Try it out should work for you too,.

Yup lemme know what 6ou think.
Guys, second post on this topic today. Just want to add my experience in getting my NST out of lag hell. I tried everything including lollipop (I had such high hopes for that one after nothing I tried got KK to perform), all the updates, custom fix ideas, everything. I haunted these forums for months. Was very frustrated and nearly threw my device against a wall several times. Then I decided to just try it at factory settings (which, upon reflection, I don't think I ever did I was so keen to update right out of the box) so I did a reset and turned off updates (actually Froze them using SDMaid).
Bottom line - now this tablet ****ing kills. It's rooted and Xposed/GravityBox-ed up. All the best root apps, etc. I'm so happy, I can't tell you. I gladly traded an over hyped OS "upgrade" for a pure Android KK. After 6 months of not a single substantial issue, I'm finally back here just curious to see if there are any new tweaks to try out. Sadly, I still see people with exactly the same issues and frustrations as I once had.
If I may make a suggestion, do a Titanium backup and then a factory reset with updates turned off - you have absolutely nothing to lose and a great tablet experience that sees it live up to its expectations to gain.
And thanks to all for taking part in this supremely helpful suite of NST forums. I wish I had a real fix to offer, I really do. But I can tell you that I'm not missing out on anything by using a pure Android KK 4.4.2.
Best of luck,
BlackLizrd

RANT : So many issues on OOS 10.0.1 but no fix till now?

I purchased OP7Pro and it was on Android 9 Pie and was flawless. It worked great. No issues. Since updating it to Android 10, it's ****ed up. And it's been more than a month. No fixed, no issues. The font is ****ed up. OnePlus Slate isn't applied everywhere. I cleared cache, reinstalled the OS and still same problems. Probably more issues added after resetting. I don't have any third party app, just regular Google Apps and few popular games. There's this WhatsApp issue that I can't send pictures taken from the stock camera from some reason, it just freezes. It's getting irritating. I don't think it's a WhatsApp issue and WhatsApp has released 3-4 updates and if it was, it would probably be fixed by now. And then the Call of Duty issues. It's probably Android 10 issue. I don't think the update is stable at all. Gallery app is behaving weird at times. Like when I open it, it shows no photos and freezes. And all above, I have been reading posts on the OnePlus community about people asking for update patches and the answers are usually that OP7Pro will get bimonthly updates. So, by that logic, if it's not stable for you, you're like ****ed for the next two months? It's just 5 months old device and no faster patches now apparently because OP7T can get 4-5 updates a month but OP7 Pro can't get fixed faster?
So if you guys have any solutions to above issues, help me out? I can't clean install every single time. I've tons of authenticator and stuff on the phone and really don't like setting it up all over again.
Just downgrade to Pie and enjoy almost the same functionality workout some not so needed features.
That's my workaround, and I agree that A10 was the worst update for Op on my memory.
Then eat some more pie for now...

I'm running 10.0.1 and I don't have any issues either.
I have two OnePlus 7 Pro's in my family and both are running 10.0.1 without any issues. I think my biggest issue that I see from time to time is that the auto brightness in low light rooms gets too dark. Other than that I think it is great! I will add that having read about all the problems many people are having, both here on XDA as well as on the OnePlus forum site, is that there's a common denominator for many of them...they complain about Whats App? Never used it! Sounds like a junk app to me because it seems to not work well on Android 10??? Also, they all have various games on theirs phones that do not work well with 10 either! I do not play games on an expensive communication tool. I say if you want to play games, then get a game station of some type and hook it up to your computer or TV, not to your cell phone. So maybe it's not Android 10.0.1 on the OnePlus 7 Pro that's the problem...maybe it's the crap-apps that people insist on installing on their phones. Now where did I leave that flame suit?
I add to main problems that android auto on opo7pro + android 10 it's fully unusable.
Audio glitch, drop connections, reboots and buttons disappear from interface.
Shame, going back to pie (but it's not anymore maintained for security update, so double disappointment).
Opo this time didn't performed well guys, let's be sincere
Since the update i am facing issue with screen dimming, even when i wake up the phone. I mean auto brightness was accurate for me on Pie.
Any resolution? Some may say its broken from start but not for me.Please advise.
No problems here
Try a full wipe and then install OB5
Work flawlessly

So, I do play games on PC too. but it's more compact and easy to play on phones. I mean you can play it anywhere. OP7Pro even gave a Fnatic Mode for gaming. I don't even know what's the use of it if games are crashing and making the devices heat up. They even advertised cooling. And not everyone installs crap apps. Whatsapp issue is more serious. Whenever I try sending a photo/video using stock camera, the app crashes and freezes.

I never said everyone installs crap apps, I said that those with constant issues do. There are way more people using this phone without any issues than there are with issues....and the difference just may be the choice of apps that people are installing. Simple.
If you are having issues with Whats App...then uninstall Whats App...issue solved! As for games...maybe the game developers need to do more work to make them work properly on 10. I do not use Whats App so I have none of the issues that Whats App has introduced and I do not play games so I have none of those issues either.
Imagine if any cell phone company said that you cannot play games on their phone because it will cause problems. It will never happen because they need to sell phones in order to stay in business and feed their families. Unfortunately this does not mean that many of these games will work properly on any cell phone. If playing games on a cell phone is a necessity then I would recommend getting a phone that is designed specifically for gaming as there are several to choose from. I would rather that phone makers designed different phones for different purposes but that rarely happens due to economic reasons. So you can continue to complain, or you can uninstall the apps and games that are causing your issues and enjoy what is otherwise an excellent phone with top notch software. The choice is yours. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for OnePlus to fix issues that are not their fault because if you do you will turn blue and suffocate to death.
I agree OP f*ed up with this....they really wanted to be the first to relase A10 after it was official that they ended up release an alpha as "stable"...I mean it says a lot when your beta is better than your stable (although in my case I had battery drain on B4 so I just downgrade to A9)
A lot of people love to say "I've been on 10.0.1 since day and I have no issue"... Cool congrats do you want a cookie? Cause you not having any issue doesn't take away from others having issues...
OP over the pass few years have become more mainstream so they've started acting more mainstream by not giving a rats ass about community opinions anymore .... Tragic really...

So I've been using WhatsApp since like 10 years now and just because I'm having problems on OP7 Pro, I should uninstall this app and that will solve the issue? Why not OnePlus/WhatsApp solves this issue? I mean if they're providing this phone, it also includes the operating system part too, not just the hardware.
And it's great you're not having any issues, I've posted this for the people who are having the issues and can discuss id they're any workaround for the issues we're facing.
They did advertised it as a gaming phone with Fnatic mode and 90hz display. And I hope you do know what Fnatic is? Or rather who they are.
It's about fixing the issues. It's been more than a freaking month and they've already forgotten about a premium segment smartphone. All their replies include bimonthly updates and replies from their fanboys.
If they stable release, at least be stable? I would be happily using Android 9 if they gave security patches separately. But no, I have to update in order to get the security updates too.

I'm tired of people replying I don't have any issues. That's why I stopped discussing it on OP community. I mean what's the point of releasing an update if it's gonna be full of bugs? I would have rather waited and be on Pie until it was actually stable.
And it's not like OP7 Pro is a year old device or something. It's just six months. And if they **** something up in an update, you're gonna have to deal with it for two months because apparently their policy says bimonthly updates.
Well, I guess 7T is their priority. They have released 6 updates for it since it launched and doesn't give a rat's ass about OP7 Pro. And also, 5G users are getting it in Q2020. That's sad too.

Looking to upgrade from G6 to G8+

I have been loving my Motorola G6 for almost two years now. I had hoped that this phone would last between 3 and 5 years. No such luck for me because even though my phone is "functioning" doesn't mean it is not suffering annoying problems.
The entire phone refuses to charge anymore unless I "bend" or "twist" the phone itself. It honestly looks like I am trying to break the phone in half when doing this. It can sometimes take multiple attempts at "twisting" the phone before it manages to STAY in the charging state.
Besides the charging problem the phone no longer works with Google Services whatsoever. I have installed an unofficial GSI Lineage-OS ROM which had been running without Google Services problems before. Ever since the charging problem arose and I factory reset the device which forced me to reinstall the ROM, etc. It was only AFTER resetting the entire device and noticing that the charging problem persisted did I stumble across an obscure comment on an online forum that said to "twist" the device. From the moment that phone and ROM got a factory reset Google Services stopped working and is always crashing on startup. I have tried flashing Gapp packages and everything else I can think of to restore Google Services.
All of this is to say that I don't want to have to replace my current G6 model for the G8+ model($303 with Amazon Prime) but I have reached the point with my current device that it makes sense to upgrade for such a low price. I was wondering how the ROM development has gone for the newer G8+ device.
I obviously want to install the Lineage-OS and do other things like rooting the device after it arrives. I checked the ROM forum section for the G8+ and it is super empty which makes me wonder if I SHOULD get the G8+ model considering that I want to modify/unlock bootloader/root the device. If there are not many developments/ROMS made for this model yet should I consider grabbing the G7 model instead? Of course if the G8+ model is going to have Lineage-OS avaliable within the next couple of months or something than I would get the newer model and just wait for the ROM release.
I would also welcome any other comments from current G8+ owners regarding their thoughts on the device since they've owned and been using this model.
Thanks!

Thanks!

the twrp is not working on android 10, and we do not have custom roms for g8+, it was possible to install gsi on android 9 now nothing else. just stockrom for now.
That sucks to hear about! Luckily I decided to go ahead and grab the G7+ since it seems to have much more active development.

Question Google Play Apps "pending" on OnePlus 9 in China

Hi Everyone - Sorry in advance that I have ridiculous beginner questions, but I just moved to China AND I just bought my first OnePlus Friday. I'm coming from a Pixel 4a5G and couple pixels before that. I haven't rooted or tweaked in many years since my Galaxy Siii with CyanogenMod. As you're about to see, I have no idea what I'm doing...
My phone: OnePlus 9 LE2110 (China) running ColorOS 11.2 (LE2110_11_A.01)
Carrier: China Mobile (also have Google Fi and will probably dual sim)
Current Location: China (but travel to US, UAE and will use Google Fi there)
I just want stability, Google Apps and for all my 4G/5G service whether I am in China or in the US. I'm fine keeping ColorOS or switching to OxygenOS. Because I value stability, I am hoping to not root or do things that might jeopardize that too much.
I've been able to sideload some apps, but I don't find that to be sustainable. I've installed the Play Store and it says it is certified, but nothing will download. An app will look like it tries to download, but gets stuck at "pending." I do have ExpressV*N running and have no issues getting gmail or the other couple Google apps working. I'm running Play 25.5.27-21
Am I able to get the Play store running and apps updating on ColorOS in China? If so, any ideas what I've done wrong?
If not, do I need to do anything besides what mlgmxyysd (amazing by the way!!) listed on the downgrade post to downgrade and install OxygenOS? I saw some people having issues with IMEIs. Looks like the latest update solved it, but I have no idea if I need to do something different.
Does the downgrade here use the Indian build? If so, should I stick with that or try to upgrade eventually to the US build? Is that even possible?
My dumbest question of all: do I download the ColorOS downgrade file if I am switching from ColorOS to OxygenOS?
I promise I have done 8-10 hours of research to try and answer my own questions. It might not seem like it and I'm sure I've overlooked very obvious information, but it's because I'm dumb, not lazy.
If you've made it this far: thanks for reading and for any insight you might have.
If you want stability, then you might want to change to oxygenOS. Most of the users here are using oxygenOS. And I haven't encountered any bugs as of yet on my oneplus 9. This will most likely solve your issue on google.

Thanks. I finally bit the bullet and converted. No real issues except for one error that has gone away (or been hidden and doesn't matter). I still have my 5g connection which I was concerned about (I average 200 Mbps on speed test) and was able to sync with my Google account so I have Play and all my old apps.
I've gotten an OTA update for 11.2.7.7.LE25DA and I'm nervous to ruin a good thing so I haven't installed it yet. I'm also only running my China Mobile sim. I haven't added my Fi SIM to it yet, also for fear of breaking something.
Either way, this really changed my life. Thanks for your final push and for the OP of the ColorOS to OxygenOS conversion.
if rooted use magisk hide like in screenshot I make my pixel 5 change fingerprint to anything and then it should work if not do the device id and maker mine showed
obviously oxygen os is the better choice ,coloros has too many ads. And you don't have to download the degraded file between o os and color os.
Thanks, everyone. Shortly after I posted this and got a little feedback I switched to Oxygen OS. It was a game changer. I don't care so much about Color OS vs. Oxygen OS (I see some merits in both), but this is much closer to my old Pixel feel and more importantly, I have easy access to Play store.
