Tcl 10l 128gb @ $190 - General Questions and Answers

So since the dawn of the S6, I've been a huge Samsung fan (and we don't need to go into why I believe that Samsung is the best, that's not why I came here), and I'm also a true Note lover because of the stylus. So my Note literally fell from a 13th-floor balcony and got destroyed, talk about luck and number 13 ?, thank god I had a complete cloud backup of my phone's data and It was just a couple of days old, so no data was lost.
I'm using an ancient backup phone I had just for now until I decide what phone will I buy, but of course, I'm not going to buy a new Note, I plan to buy a mid-range phone so that I can do all my daily tasks, I use my phone a lot at work especially when I'm out of the office for calls, emails, PDF viewing, WhatsApp and Skype besides that there's social media consumption, web browsing, some amateur photography (I'm not a professional), music streaming, youtube, 9gag and light gaming like Egg Inc. and wait for the S21 or whatever Samsung decides to name it.
So I've found out that the TCL 10L 128GB is up for $190 where I am right now so I thought that it's a good idea to buy this one considering the specs and the price.
So my question is at $190 is the TCL 10L 128GB a good phone for the tasks I mentioned above considering It'll only be used until the S21 arrival?

For that price range you could get a better phone, like the Xiaomi Poco X3. It has a bigger battery, a better processor, better benchmark scores in general. And it's around 180€, and since you're buying the next samsung, it'd be better not spending too much.

Well the Poco X3 is $285 where I am now, and I'm on a budget since I'm on a business trip in another country. That's why I liked the 10L offer because is very inexpensive considering the other phones with the same specs.
And since I need a phone ASAP and won't be using it for more than 4 months I thought it would do fine.
So If the X3 is out will the 10L do fine handling my tasks for the time being considering the price.

Would you recommend the Galaxy S6 in 2017 ?

Hey guys im looking for a good phone for about 450 dollars max and for me there are three options atm at this price tag the Galaxy S6 , Huawei Honor 8 and Sony X performance .
Wait until after MWC 2017. Prices may drop after upcoming phones are announced. If I had to get a new phone right now for $450 or less, I'd consider the Honor 8 (only if on sale for $300), Axon 7, or Nextbit Robin ($160 on Amazon!).
Or maybe OnePlus 3T if it isn't too big. I defo wouldn't buy S6 for 450$. And dont buy used one, if so! Isnt S7 for around 500$? In Europe you can get it for 470 € off contract.

The 3T is 510 dollars and has to be imported so it may have aditional taxes and the S7 is 560 off contract . If i had the money i would have bought the S7 Edge
nope, not worth getting the s6, battery is just too small and it has a lot of minor issues with battery drain, random crashes etc, especially on the AT&T unit. You would be better of getting a One Plus 3t or any of the newer phones. Plus they might already be running or will soon get Nougat
Just bought one a couple weeks ago and it's perfectly fine. Well, apart from the battery life, which is, quite frankly, poor. Everything else is perfectly fine and the camera is still top-notch. If, however, you can get the Honor 8 for the same price, I'd recommend you get that. Apart from the camera, it's a better all-rounder. I've recently had the Xperia X Performance and would not recommend in a million years, horrible phone. Battery life is poor, camera is weaker than competitors and I had loads of performance (!) issues and bugs/crashes/freezes. Tried all resets to no avail.
I use S6 for over a year now, my wife has one too. Not looking for an upgrade yet. Screen is fine, battery still holds a decent charge and we never had any crashes etc. Have a look at 2nd hand or refurbished units too. Or check OnePlus2. Have a look around for LG G5. I have a G5 along with S6 and would have a hard time if I was told to pick just one of those 2.
I wouldn't pick the S6. It's overall an ok phone. But the battery is a joke. 2600 mAh. It will be an everlasting battle for battery optimisation and as much screen on time as possible.
But as other people as mentioned, wait until the end of the month and maybe get the S7

2550mAh to be precise.. it's definitely a no-no for 2017... there's s7 or oneplus3T.

OnePlus 6 Price

What do you think? How much will it cost? Share your opinions on all models!
Current prices: 520€ for 6/64 modell, 570€ for 8/128 modell.
The 256GB one could be the Avangers Edition, but no info/price yet.
EDIT: Yeah, this thread is a discussion... Sorry -_- If any mod sees this, please move it. Thanks.
Hope they have a couple of varients.I imagine the 8/256gb varient will be fairly expensive so hoping for maybe 8/128gb.
Will only buy if it is around €550.
Hope they wil announce it early this year

I read somewhere that the base (6/64) variant will be ~530€.
But elsewhere i saw 600€+ for the base variant so hope the best
$529 (6/64)
$579 (8/128)
$629 (8/256)
OP1: $300
OP2: $330 +30
OP3: $400 +70
OP3T: $440 +40
OP5: $480 +40
OP5T: $500 +20
I's guess a price around $540 or $550 for base model based off of how it's been going.
It is very simple: If they price it too high people won't buy it. They used to make "flagship killers", but if they get the price even higher with this model, the flagship killer concept actually dies, because it will reach the flagship price. On the other hand, the average OnePlus user has become much more greedier, we want all flagship features possible, stellar cameras, high-res displays, but we are not willing to pay. It's kinda hard for OnePlus to make everyone happy.
if they ask for €600 there will be better options to buy.
Even the note 8 can be found around €650 now

Yeah, good price would be under 600€
I am absolutly happy with my OP5, had the OPO and OPT before, and the amount of money to purchase has been grown up to my personal limit.
500 bucks for a flagship killer is ok, but more....it would be a flagship and nothing different with others.
The community and the developer scene here on XDA is one argument to stay, but we'll see...

We don't know the price of the OP6 yet.
Of course it will be a better phone than the Mi Mix 2S (hp jack, oled display over ips, better default OS imo, but with notch), but if the price is too high, go for the Mix 2S.
EDIT: I have been seeing rumors for two days saying that the price for the base modell will be ~530€.
+ The Chinese release for OP6 is 5th May. (This is also a rumor)

Are you positive OP6 will have oled screen?
Rumor is that OP6 DXO Mark score is in the triple digits.
IMO this is going to cost at least €600 for the base model. Which will render it a pretty unattractive proposition to any informed consumer, as by the time it's out an S9 should be available for under €600 (can already be had for €630ish).
But then, they've built the brand, and some people will stick with it. Even though this is just going to be a very overpriced Oppo R15 with a SD845.
Still, it should be a significantly better phone than the 5 / 5T, if the R15 (& Pro) are anything to go by.
If you like the look of it, and you don't play mobile games, you should probably save yourself €150 and buy an R15 Pro, or the R15 if you don't mind the MT SoC. It'll be marginally slower, but have better battery life.

OnePlus 6 worth it in 2019?

Just sold mine(8/256) on Swappa for, I thing , very reasonable price - my backup is moto X4 and now I have a clear view on what's coming up for 2019.
Depends on your budget and if your patient. Personally at this point I would wait for the 7. But personally I still love my 6. Seems to get better with time
I don't see why not. Manufacturers aren't making huge advances these days in mobile tech as far as performance. It's all about gadget features now. Well start seeing cool folding tech this year, but I don't well see anything at all that is going to severely out perform what we have. I won't go and pay big bucks any time soon for anything else unless it's foldable.

Definitely, OP6 is a great phone. I realized that I could still describe my phone's condition as "mint", no blemishes whatsoever and so it went.
As for OP7, it could be another big hit for OP and not just because of the new 855 SoC, but it might also have a new UFS 3.0 storage as the rumor goes:
https://bgr.com/2019/01/07/oneplus-7-vs-galaxy-s10-speed-ufs-3-0-benchmark-leaked/
Great phone. Best phone I have ever owned. I hope to get at least two years out of it. Maybe upgrade when 5g is widespread.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk
If theres a nice discount and you don't care about the headphone jack (OP7 may not have it) then it'll still be a great buy. I'm planning to use this phone until the battery dies out on me or some other kind of failure if any.
I got mine couple months ago and would buy again. Headphone jack and hardware fingerprint scanner are great to have.
Just bought one. Very good deals at the moment and like has been mentioned, 5g is on it's way.
Best phone I have had so far.
Got mine in November, no regrets at all.
Check out Gearbest, purchased it for around 360$ brand new, it came with OxygenOS out of the box, but if it doesn't, rebranding is easy as just it just requires the installation of the ROM via the system updater !
for around 400$ is a great deal. (8/128).

Worth it in 2021/22?

Looking to get one of these for my daughter. She broke her Nokia 7.1 display and asked for something that takes better pictures if we're replacing her phone anyway. I had Gcam running on that Nokia but I think an actual Pixel would do her better, and just run smoother too.
With the current prices for used/refurbed, I think a P3 XL would be great, even if there are no more updates for it.
What do you guys think? Any versions to avoid or issues to look out for? Someone mentioned that battery life is iffy especially on a used model, but she's not a power user (mostly music, some messages and calls and occasional selfies with friends- no social media or browsing).
Good idea or bad idea?

I think it's a good idea, with some caveats. Excellent for the mentioned needs, but as said, even if it's described as 'Mint', odds are the battery has been cycled hundreds of times.
This is listed on ebay for 219, brand new, unlocked. I've bought from that seller and they are reputable for sure. At least going that route you won't have to worry about the battery.
Yeah no more official updates from google, but Lineage will continue to make builds for this device for (probably) years to come.
Absolutely worth considering.
Things to look out for - a locked bootloader. Verizon and AT&T phones have locked bootloaders. You can't install LOS with a locked bootloader, so no more updates for those phones. Also, when sellers say the phone is unlocked, they mean the SIM is unlocked, not the bootloader.
I'd go with a new, unused phone if you can still find one. Besides battery on a used phone, there is this problem to consider. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/fix-pixel-3-qusb_bulk_cid-xxxx_sn-xxxxxxxx.4205331/
I just had my Pixel 3 battery replaced at uBreakIfix for $100. The original battery lasted 2 years. I could have nursed it along a few months more, but decided it was time.
Also consider a new Pixel 2, if you can find one. I bought a new Pixel 2 XL a couple of months ago. It was much cheaper than the Pixel 3s were going for.

Yikes, the battery bit that hard over 2 years, huh?
I bought a Galaxy S10 used that still has decent battery, and my LG G7 which is around the same generation as the Pixel 3 still can go all day. Is the Pixel battery just more prone to conking out early? She could use my LG but honestly I sold her on the Gcam, dual selfies and unlimited google photo storage (she's been using compressed storage for photos since it was free on all phones, and missed the memo about losing all her storage space earlier this year).
Here's the thing:
If I get it from Swappa, it comes with a 3-month Mint SIM trial prepaid. She's on Google Voice so I tend to swap plans around whenever there's a deal, so that knocks about $45 off the price of the phone since I'd be otherwise paying that $15 a month elsewhere. Still worth getting new over that deal? There are pretty mint ones (9 out of 10 condition) for under $150 there, so total would be ~$100 after service discount.

The battery would still last me all day, but it would discharge very fast once it got under 30%. I figured I'd rather replace it than risk losing the phone at a bad time.
As for price, it all depends on what deals you find. I paid $120 for the new Pixel 2 XL a couple of months ago. I get my service for $10 a month (with 500 Mb of data) from RedPocket. I'm quite satisfied with those numbers.
That's a good deal. Can't find a Pixel 2 right now new. I was paying $10 a month for 1GB of data previously but she's constantly running out from google photos and spotify, so was planning on moving up to $15 for 4GB on Mint anyway. Especially right now, buy 3 months get 3 free. So essentially 7.50 a month for the next 6 months!
However... if I get the free sim from Swappa its probably only 3 months. Either way, a good deal. If I buy new from Ebay (even if I could find it), I'd still have to pay for a Mint sim

I recently bought a 'Mint' Lg G8 on swappa, and it 'looked' pretty close to mint, very light small scratches on back. But when I modified the rom so I could see the 'svc menu', the battery stat indicated it had been fully cycled about 280 times. Research indicates a battery should last from 300 to 500 cycles. And just like dcarvil, this G8, when it gets to about 30%, it' drops fast. Incredibly fast.
Other phones I've bought on swappa that were 'open box', actually were exactly that, virtually new. Now we see sellers describe it as 'open box'... without the box!!
It's all anecdotal, some good, some bad, we take our chances.
cheers, good luck.
The Pixel 3 XL is still a great phone and should last a while. The processor is about the same as the Pixel 5.
I would recommend looking on Swappa as it is stricter than Ebay on quality and even a Fair Swappa phone is quite good and should describe the defects in the listing.
On swappa, the cheapest verizon and sprint 3 XL are under $100, but the Google or Tmobile version (which can be boot-loader unlocked and rooted are up to $150. Also notice that at $200 and above you can even get the Pixel 4 XL. Also, the 3a XL may be a cheap option, but it has slower processors so not as good, but still better than the old Nokia 7.1.
I definitely recommend one where the boot-loader is unlock-able as it opens up many options. To stay completely stock or unlock and use any OS build she would like.

I found a swappa 128 gb in good condition for $120, and it's supposed to be the Google version so bootloader unlockable!
Just ordered it. I've heard mixed things about the latest A12 roms, so I like the idea of keeping it unlockable for customs. Are there are any good aftermarket roms that stay close to stock re: network function (VOLTE)?
I've have bad experience with Lineage based roms in the past because networks like Tmobile where I live rely on VOLTE for decent calling support.

Well yes it is different. LG and Sammy for sure have proprietary IMS implementations, I'm not sure about Moto. What that means is that if the proprietary implementation can't be ported, then things like volte will only work on stock.

Question [INDIA] Galaxy S22 Ultra news + discussion thread.

Looks like India might be getting the Snapdragon this year. How many of you are going to upgrade? I've already sold my S21 Ultra in anticipation for the S22 Ultra.
For me, it's too early to decide based on rumours and conjecture alone. Will wait for a month after the device is out in people's hands before making the decision. I stayed back on A11 on my S21U so phone performance is still very good. Thankfully, i downgraded from A12 before the bootloader update so I was able to roll back. If A12 performance on S22U is similar to the S21U, I would stay clear of it.
As far as chipset is concerned, I don't really have an issue with the E2100. Unlike previous Exynos SoCs, I quite liked the E2100. It's very comparable to the SD888 performance, really closing the gap this year. In some aspects I actually prefer the E2100, especially is thermal performance and stand-by battery drain, when compared to the SD counterpart.
The S22U isn't offering anything more than an inbuilt stylus and a generational chipset upgrade. Not sure if the increase in performance will justify the extra cost of upgrading.
The phone has got to be something really special and miles ahead of the S21U for me to spend another 60-70k (assuming S21U exchange discount, bank offers etc). If I was upgrading from S20U to S22U, I could justify it, but from the S21U, only time will tell if it's worth the money.
Yes this is pain as no one yet know what version release in India
According to some reports southeast countries will get SD so according to this we may get Exynos
I am planning to buy but want to go with international version, as its useless if you develop and no audience there. Let's see.

IMO, i feel the S21U will get atleast 65 to 75K easily in exchange because,
1. S21 Ultra is out of stock at most places
2. S21 Ultra prices, new at places with stock may not go down
3. S22 Ultra won't be much of an upgrade so people may opt to buy S21 Ultra at a lower price
CONFIRMED!
Galaxy S21, S22 Galaxy S21 FE Galaxy Z Fold3, Z Flip3, Galaxy Tab S8 Will ALL get 4 major android updates AND 5 years of security updates!

I agree, I sold my S21 Ultra for 65k but it took sometime for me to find a buyer. The prices should be in the 55k range for S21 Ultra after the release of S22U. But regardless of that with all the goodies they will give (hopefully), the nett cost shouldn't be more than 30-35k. The nett cost for my Note 20U to S21U transfer was 10k.
Eagerly waiting for S22U/S22+. Will be looking to pre-order from corporate website with +ve news of SD version, 4 major android version is confirmed. Just waiting for prices & offers. Will be upgrading from OP7T, so it should be big upgrade. Looking at the specs s22+ can be dark horse this year.
With SD version being released in more areas, there's high probability of good custom ROM scene.
Has anyone tried Samsung exchange program ? Any experience to share ?

From what i know, SD versions of Samsung devices have been locked down since the beginning with all the custom rom things happening for the Exynos.

That's only with US version, not CH & Hongkong so it will be interesting to know which version of SD will be launced in india.
Model number ending with '0' shoule be rootable but U won't. e.g. 'S9080' can be rooted "S908U" can't.
exynos model usually ended with "B" (in case 5G ) e.g "S908B"
"Note" worthy, with minimal improvements,
For S21U users,
This isn't gonna be an upgrade.
It'll be a "next version released, so buying it" thingy.
Do we think we will have issues with BL unlock disabling cameras?

It shouldn't. Still need to know which version they are releasing in India.
Camera restriction they have applied on Fold3 but later with oneui 4.0 no more issue, so I don't think they will implement again
Why pre-book offer is so useless this time around with a flagship? Is it like "Hey, we are giving you Snadragon this time around, not those hard to convince inhouse Exynos", so stay happy with a smart tag?

I don't think the actual cashback and accessory discount offers will be displayed till the price has been announced and deals struck with banks (most probably HDFC again).
Isn’t it odd that India still doesn’t have pricing or preorder date or retail launch announced even 24 hours past the global launch? Been buying every S flagship day 1 preorders and I can recall all the way back to 7 years when we started getting pricing and preorder info immediately. Anyone knows if pre-reserve can be clubbed with preorder when it opens up later? Last year I didn’t bother with pre reserve but did preorder directly from the Samsung India website for the ultra.

They have done it before too, pre-reserve is just there way of keeping the hype active. Pre-reserve will club with Pre-order as usual. There partner is going to be HDFC or ICICI only as they are with most bankable users who have proven record of buying Samsung Devices.
Yet we don't get the price level of US. There they are giving 512gb for price of 256gb & 256gb for 128gb. We wont have 128gb & base will be 256gb. Pricing may start 1L+ uptil 1.2L
