HTC U12+ | No Major Android Updates on the Horizon | Options? - HTC U12+ Questions & Answers

Hi all,
It's been a good couple of years since I've participated in these forums.
I've an U12+. Can't say I'm exactly happy with it however, and now even more so as HTC have confirmed Android 10 isn't on the horizon at this stage, and as for v11 forget about it. See below for the exact reply I received.
For your device, upon reviewing the android 10 is currently not yet available on your phone and in Australia. I’ve also confirmed that we still do not have the time frame when will the latest android version be rolled out.
I've been unable to root my device as I cannot find the stock ROM for it if I ever needed to roll-back to stock or for some other backout reason.
So with this said, what are my options for a major update to either Android 10 or even 11? I know there's the ASOP project but what else is out there in terms of updating options?
Really looking for suggestions/options in terms of an upgrade.
Thanks all in advance.

Anyone have the stock ROM for Taiwan version ?
HTC didn't release the stock ROM for Taiwan version, if I have it I'd try viper experience android 10

I have an Australian variant, and I don't think they released the stock ROM for this and I forgot to grab a copy back when I received the v9 OTA.
So you'd recommend Viper as an alternative ROM? Are there any other 3rd party ROMs other than Viper, ASOP / GSI ( I'm pretty sure GSI is at v11 ).
Viper can be found in the ROMs section of these forums?
Thanks for your advice.

According to mikalovtch there'll be an android 11 viper rom for the U12+, soon™. So waiting just a little longer might be worth it.

I just bought the device a couple of days ago, and bricked it trying to root it, and i was stuck for more than 12 hours in a bootloop, but i managed to get the original firmware at the Russian forums ( i don't know if I'm allowed to say it's name or post a link)
Anyways, if you want the stock firm ware for the device pm me your CID.

Hi!
Given the fact that this phone is pretty recent, I hope we can get a Nougat update soon. :good:
Besides I'm very happy with it. It's a really good cellphone. I paid it 199€.
Good value for the price I think.

But what's mean LTU ?
I don't think this device will see any updates at all. I mean security patch level is from September 2016. The firmware on the device is the last one they provided to their beta testers ( I'm one as well). They managed to fix plenty of issues during those test months (weekly updates) but since release this device is forgotten.
The Helio P10 can run Nougat fine, as seen on some Sony handsets with the same SoC.
Don't get your hopes up.
I think that too we don't get nougat. But now we even don't have any custom ROM or TWRP

Is (was) CM and OxygenOS officially supported by OnePlus?

Hello,
i am new too oneplus one, i am bit confused. Was cyanogenmod up to version 13.1.2 officially supported by the manufacturer? Later they released an other OS called "OxygenOS" but as i can see, CM was longer supported and had more updates. And it stoped with Android 6.0.1, officially?
So the manufacturer supported 2 OS Versions officially?
Just asking, cause i want to sell my second Oneplus one and the buyer wants an official stock rom. Right now i have it on the latest (supported?) CM 13.1.2.

You're better off with cos13.1.2,just sell your device. And tell him to check XDA if he decides to upgrade to Nougat unofficially.
But is it an official OS which (was) supported by the manufacturer?
Yes, the OPO shipped with COS and got official support and updates up to COS 13.1.2. The software support was up to Cyanogen inc which has now shut down (I mean check the bottom back part of your phone and you'll see the branding).

Newer devices don't have the branding.
OnePlus one sets sold in China came with Color OS instead of CyanogenMod. So these sets did not have the CyanogenMod brand name at the back.
Just install CyanogenOS (not CyanogenMOD). It was officially supported by the manufacturer.
6.0.1 to 7.1.2
My OnePlus One was bought recently with Android 6.0.1 and Cyanogen OS version 13.1-ZNH2KAS1kN. I have rooted it and have been searching for some time to see if there are prerequisites involved before flashing a current ROM (7.1)? One other devices there are upgrade processes but for the life of me cannot find any threads on this subject....

I have been reading Heisenbergs threads for hours, I used his method for rooting but still do not see an answer to my question in them. I just installed [ROM][LineageOS][Android 6.0.1] TugaPower M104.0 and now I have a blank screen guess I'll go back to factory image then...

Looking for the Latest Custom ROM for S8+

Hello friends,
I am back to this site after almost 2 years.
A lot has changed, it appears.
Till now, I am using my S8+ on its stock ROM, with latest updates released by Samsung:
SM-G955FD
One UI version 1.0
Android 9.0
Baseband G955DXXU5DSH3
However, as the device is out of its warranty period, I want to flash a custom ROM. Been doing this before on my older devices, but need guidance now.
Would appreciate links to the appropriate how-to section.
Thanks in advance.
Was looking for the same thing.

Are custom ROMs needed anymore?

Hi!
I'm an owner of an OnePlus 7. I upgraded to Android 10 a while ago and the new OxygenOS looks and feels amazing.
But I also wonder if a custom ROM is still needed or preferred over OxygenOS?

Yeah... I'm still for having custom roms... OnePlus right now offers bimonthly updates, so people who want to run the very latest version of Android have to use custom roms.. also OnePlus may not have some features which users who are coming from a custom rom may miss..

Google-less replacement for Oxygen?!

Is there a package that is Android or Linux based that will work with the OnePlus 8t yet?
I have a OnePlus 8T popup unlocked version.
Thanks.
The chinese version of the Rom hydrogen OS comes without any google services what so ever. But probably have some chinese bloatware instead.
When checking the https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/oneplus-8t-roms-kernels-recoveries-other-deve.11587/

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed.

Thanks for the reply. I see that LineageOS is probably the way to go. Would you wait for the official version to be compatible with the 8T or give the one posted by LuK1337 a shot? I haven't done any rooting or modding since 2012 or so.

I haven't done any custom roms on any of my devices since 2014-2015 so can't really give you any advice there. Unless I needed a super stable phone and would be reluctant to wipe it and start over any time soon. I would probably give the unofficial one a spin for a few days and see if I find it stable enough for use. There is no way to know when a official one will be released.
The oneplus phones are almost imposible to hard brick though. As there are official unbrick/MSM tools avaible in case anything go wrong. So in worst case you can just roll back to oxygenOS again (but it will wipe your phone completely)
There might also be other alternative custom roms that might be google free. Even though there isn't much custom roms released for the Oneplus 8T yet.
Rooting is a most for me (I used the oneplus 8T unrooted for 2½ day, which is a new record for me. Can't really live without the possibilities that root gives me).
