Are custom ROMs needed anymore? - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

Hi!
I'm an owner of an OnePlus 7. I upgraded to Android 10 a while ago and the new OxygenOS looks and feels amazing.
But I also wonder if a custom ROM is still needed or preferred over OxygenOS?

Yeah... I'm still for having custom roms... OnePlus right now offers bimonthly updates, so people who want to run the very latest version of Android have to use custom roms.. also OnePlus may not have some features which users who are coming from a custom rom may miss..

Selling my OPO: return to stock or flash latest Lineage OS?

The title is self explanatory.
I'm selling my beloved (and sometimes behated) Oneplus One that has obviously been modded since day 1.
Unfortunately I never tried stock Lineage OS so I'm asking you guys if it is stable enough to be flashed instead of the stock and obsolete COS13.
Thanks!

I don't think it is as stable as cos13,but you should sell the device with nougat.
My suggestion is Flash sultan's lineage os and sell it.
The camera crashes in panarama mode. Otherwise solid is. Oneplus has the oxygenos for this phone but its version 5.1 if you want rock solid stability

There is OOs 3.1.4 port which is stable as well.
Some OTa updates install the factory camera back on..
I ended up locking the bootloader and reinstalling COS13, mainly because some banking apps and Netflix don't show up on the Play Store with an unlocked bootloader.
It's been almost 3 long years of flashing and modding, now I'll try so stay stock with no root as long as possible with my new Redmi Note 4
Thank you for the advice, cheers guys!

Replacement for Xiaomi Stock MIUI that can still OTA/less maintenance for non-techie

So I've gotten an Mi 5s Plus for my wife but she wants a more up to date version of Android than what Xiaomi is releasing (current is MIUI 8.5/Android 6.0.1) as they take forever to update.
Obviously I don't want to be tech support moving forward, and I'd like her to be on the latest version of Android. I just really want this to be a set and forget sort of thing, so assuming it would need to be a base ROM of some sort from a major releaser, hopefully there is something released with everything working.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what ROM i could use on her phone so that she doesn't have to worry about updates as she will just receive them OTA?
As with myself she also will require the phone to be NON-ROOTED for her work, along with banking apps (which I'm assuming you can always remove root/lock the phone after installing the ROM).
I don't mind if its a version of MIUI or not but I'd like it so that all the features of the phone still work which I'm assuming would be MIUI.
Thanks for any help.
I think Xiaomi.eu weekly ROMs have OTA, but I'm not sure.
If not than maybe Lineage OS.
Ressurection Remix definitely has OTA.

Have you tried the global developer ROM? It is quite stable from my testing and is updated nearly every week. It is Android 7.0.
Are these OTA updates?
Is the global developer rom certified so that Android Pay works?
Also I'm assuming the updates to this are OTA, if I miss a couple weeks can you just update to the most recent one?
Ressurection would be interesting, thanks. Does it support Android Pay?
@umirza85 Not sure. I'd try but I've rooted it.

Most stable, up to date and future proof ROM?

Which one is it? Most of the ROMs which have been posted here haven't got an Update for ages now, the only one which seems up to date is the Oreo one, however I am afraid that this ROM will be dead too soon (hopefully not) :/ I just hope that this ROM will be our savior and get us out of this misery aka EMUI.
I'm in the same situation. Most of the roms have some bugs and never get updated and others are just not stable enough to be used daily. I hope there will be at least one rom that is stable and that gets updated from time to time. Especially since Honor 8 won't get Android Oreo anymore.

crDroid is under testing for latest B401 blobs and the GPS reboot fix. I'll update it as soon as possible.

Never heard of crDroid before, can you tell what it is like? Is it a rom based on the B401 firmware? Whats the difference between the other ones? And in what kind is this firmware/rom better than teh other ones?

I'm new to the Honor 8 (and coming from the Nexus 6: ease of modding/availability of custom firmware etc., this totally sucks). But I'll tell you that generally the only "better" custom ROM is a more stable ROM: otherwise, it depends on user preference. Do you want a lot of customization options, or are you preferring a pared-down, bare-bones experience? That's what makes the difference.
The trouble with the H8 appears to be that 1) EMUI for the H8 just doesn't play very nicely with custom ROMs (and possibly even just rooting?); and 2) because of that, not many people who are interested in developing ROMs are taking on the task.
So I'd just get used to EMUI or take whatever ROM is most stable according to most--I have no idea personally what that is, but your options are going to probably be pretty limited (especially now that it looks like Huawei is shafting H8 owners by not releasing Oreo). I doubt you've got any room to be picky here: just shoot for stability.
As for crDroid specifically, it is one of many lines of ROMs (like Resurrection Remix) and is released in different variants for different phones. This one is based on Cyagenmod (and my guess is the Honor 8 one isn't official, but rather an unofficial variant, "based on" crDroid)--but you could've found that out by using Google (see here for starters).
The Honor 8 appears to be an especially difficult device to successfully mod, so if you're a beginner, I'd really think twice before taking on the task unless you can get some help. I'm fairly well-versed with modding, but I'm either going to return this phone or limit my tinkering to rooting.

Custom rom vs Stock?

It's the first time since i bought Oneplus 8T that i haven't installed custom rom + root day1. I have the phone since summer. I want to know if it's worth to install a custom rom or not, and why?
Also, can you install most custom roms without rooting?
I guess i need a unrooted phone cause i use many banking apps.
Last question. I don't see many posts at this thread. It's cause people nowadays don't playing with custom roms as they used to be, Oneplus 8T maybe it's an old phone, or people talking about custom rom to other places like telegram?
I remember the Oneplus 5/5T topic was full of posts.
1. Depends on what you want. If you don't care about oos cam.
2. Yes there are Custom Roms that support banking apps.
3. You can also use magisk if you want root and also use banking apps.
4. Yeah most discussion ls are on telegram.
What's oneplus 8t telegram?
Have been using my 8T with custom ROMs since pretty much day 1. I had the best experience with the official LineageOS 18.1 build. Works like a charm, doesn't come with any Google spyware and can of course be used without root. I recently switched to the new Android 12 crDroid, which looks pretty stable too. Again, no Google and nobody is forcing you to root there.

Rom based on OOS?

HI!
Sorry for the NOOB Question...
But, why there are no Custom Roms based on Original Latested OOS Rom wit some Improvements and/or modifications?
Thanks!
have no one any idea?
I just came in here looking for the exact same thing. An OOS13 based Rom... Why? Because I grown a custom with the Oneplus features.
I actually tried the Pixel 7 Pro, was thinking of going to that the OP7P will not receive any more updates, but I couldn't get used to it.
