Ok I understand windows 7 is not supported anymore, But I am Not Rich and cannot afford a new PC & a new phone !
So I choose a new phone.
I need to connect a "SM-N986U 5G AT&T" to a "Windows 7 x64" PC via Bluetooth?
While it does connect, Their are No Drivers installed, found, or even downloadable for it ?
Is thier Anything I can do ? Anyone ?
All I wanna do is listen to the audio playing on the phone thru my PC Speakers.
WithOut installing scamsung's software with thier creepy spyware user agreements. I have been doing this for years with a note 3 with no problems.
In developer settings it will Not even let me change the codec, sample rate,etc... to anything other than Scamsungs crappy default Even though others are listed ??
Coming from a Note 3, So far this Is just a fast pretty piece of shi7 ! and that's about it ! Unless you buy all new stuff nothing will connect to it.
Any and All help is greatly appreciated !
Thank Ya'll
You can just play music directly on pc by using YouTube xD or connect the phone with USB cable and transfer the music to pc and play it there.
I don't think you can play music from phone onto a laptop speaker since it does not show up as any speaker on phone.

Thank You Jake S. for a response and your advice,
I currently use a Note 3 to do this It is a desktop with a decent sound card with multiple multiple amps/speakers and I route and control the audio with the phone via bluetooth with no issues But it's drivers are installed and working correctly.
My only issue here is the Note20, although it shows it is connected, the device manager shows No Drivers are loaded or installed. and at this point I can do nothing with the phone not even copy files without plugging it in. witch defeats my purpose.
I am most certain there are no working drivers for Win 7 as MS rendered it useless but I can not afford a new PC and there is nothing slow or wrong with this one except its age, Upgrading to Win 10 is not possible as drivers for all the hardware are not available either. Seems no matter what I do unless I have much money I loose.
Looks like I will have to find another way, And Scamsung DEX will not be it as their user agreement seems really sketchy to me, But maybe I'm just old !

There is nothing wrong with samsung DeX.
Please tell me why you think it's sketchy?

The drivers are there. Public demand drives it.
Many companies will provide W7 drivers for their new products, some may not like Intel.
All legacy drivers are available and more...

Who uses MS support anyway?
I'll be running on W7 for many years to come...
Lol, many are still running XPx64.

Have you read their User Agreement ?
Samsung was caught Spying with their TV's and I am certain they have not changed their ways. These creepy user agreements are why I stay away from most anything new as it has become the norm. Microsux,Gaygle, Assmazon, and many many many others are following this concept. And it seems most people don't mind, But as I said I'm old and still believe in privacy and will only allow what I am forced to.

You're welcome. It's not as grim as it first seems but you may need to do some leg work to chase it down.
The availible BT codecs for transferring high res music files on the 10+ suck; better to use the C port and stay in the digital realm going into the PC. Especially if you have .wav files or higher resolution audio files.
SKSXS was correct about Sammy's lame EULAs. Read the ones for Bixby or Wearables sometime.
Sammy you suck... and you're so firewall/ PB locked out.

Well thats something else and very old news. Samsung DeX has nothing to do with a tv lol.
But I understand that they did spy with tv and got caught red handed.
Apple is fore sure spying too so is most things lately even cars to for sure. Like tesla giving your daily driving locations and speed information and **** to tesla company so they can sell to 3rd party companies.
If you want to go away from spying get a phone with T9 keyboard then you won't have much spying xD

Hi
Recieved my transformer today and after a few hrs with it, I was totally impressed. It is by far the most beautiful tablet I have had. From an ipad, a tmo galaxy tab and the Gtablet, this one is a keeper. A few things:
1. For some reason when the asus is connected to a USB hub attached to my 27" iMac, it would not charge. I had to connect it directy to an AC source.
2. How do I use the "MyNet" feature to gain access to the videos and files on my macintosh? I saw a message about DLNA from the tab, but don't have any idea how to set it up from the Mac.
3. I read that Asus was providing some sort of cloud storage for the transformer, but I cannot locate the info or an app on the tablet so I can take advantage of that feature. Is there a sign-up page for this online storage cloud service?
4. Is there any macintosh software available which would allow me to access the sdcard on the eee pad? I am able to do this via windows from Parallels, but would like to have access also from the Apple side.
5. Which HDMI type cable should I be getting for the Transformer?
6. Is there a short "root" method I can use apart from this one ...
I am not comfortable for this long process to have cwm on the Tab. Will wait for an easier method. Just need root for now.
My unit came fully updated, and software update hasn't found any thing new.
Kudos to Asus for engineering such an awesome tablet.
#1 is easy - USB ports on computers (any computer) only provide about 500mA of current. This is not enough to charge a tablet device. If you look at the output rating of the adapter with your Transformer, it's probably something like 5V, 1800mA.
Simply put - USB ports on computers don't put out enough juice.

Actually, you're running the original March build. You'll want to go to this thread and click on the link to the latest firmware. It's a manual (non-FOTA) update, and you'll need a microSD card to apply it.

if you had webstorage account from asus before you'll have to set up a new one from Eeepad to take advantage of the first year unlimited cloud storage
I dont think MyNet is compatible with macs, and as was stated in the other posts (and judging from your screenshot), you don't have the latest firmware installed. It's easily updated by using a microsd card though.

I'm thinking the same thing regarding MyNet for Macs. Hopefully there is an update in the future that will bring compatibility to Macs/OSX.
As mentioned before, the current capacity of a usb hub ( or computer usb port is not sufficient to do a good job charging the TF. Also the chips used in most 4 port USB hubs provide two powered ports and two un-powered ports. The un-powered ports can not be used to power anything.

My ReadyDLNA (Ext3 external drive plugged into a WNDR3700) is showing in MyNet, so can't we just use a Mac OS DLNA clent/server? I feel like this could be done without even using the router like I am.

Sorry I don't know enough about macs to give advice on that. All i know is that on the asus site, it doesnt mention mac support at all, which leads me to believe there isn't, nor will there be, any software to make it compatible on the mac.
I guess you could use a windows emulator as a workaround or even install a proper version of it on a partition.

Well the software they provide for windows is indeed a DLNA client/server, so in a sense the mechanics are identical, not to mention you can work with with Ext3 in Mac os (Much faster streamingpotential compared to NTFS). I plan on installing XBMC later today, and I'll post back if there are any issues with HFS+.

As long as you see your dlna server in mynet I don't see why not. Your shares don't show up? That's strange. Because I got a windows xp machine running the windows media player dlna server and I see all my folders. Though my transformer don't support most of the video on my PC...that's a bummer. Need a good video player on this transformer that can play streaming video.

Not quite.
The Transformer PSU puts out 15v at 1.2A on a pin that is normally used by USB3 (Not present at all on USB2)
When plugged into a normal USB2 hub (only 5V) it will charge _very_ slowly and even then only when powered off (not just with the screen off)

If you turn off the screen it will trickle charge very slowly. USB ports aren't providing enough juice to fully charge the TF.
2. How do I use the "MyNet" feature to gain access to the videos and files on my macintosh? I saw a message about DLNA from the tab, but don't have any idea how to set it up from the Mac.
You want to run some sort of DLNA software on the Mac. I use an app called "Playback" on my Mac Mini for DLNA purposes to stream to my Xbox and Epic 4G (when i had one) and Galaxy Tab (when i had one).
3. I read that Asus was providing some sort of cloud storage for the transformer, but I cannot locate the info or an app on the tablet so I can take advantage of that feature. Is there a sign-up page for this online storage cloud service?
Complimentary one-year trial of ASUS WebStorage. Please visit www.asuswebstorage.com for more details.

Yes, it's called Android File transfer. http://www.android.com/filetransfer/

Mini HDMI, available for cheap online or for about $29 at your local BestBuy.

You just need to be running a DLNA server on the Mac. Look up an app called Playback.
I think everyone's misunderstanding what I was trying to say before. I was trying to help someone else, I don't need help on the subject myself thx. I hate macs, theyre too simple to use and no challenge.
So I've pretty much replaced my laptop with my transformer. Yea my laptop has a 17 inch screen, but to be honest with you its so big I never wanted to take it anywhere! Isn't a laptop supposed to be PORTABLE? I feel like I can (and should) take the TF everywhere. It seems tiny when docked, but just right when used as a tablet.
I love it.
The only thing stopping me from selling my laptop at this point is that I need to burn CD's occasionally. Is there any app out there that can access an external burner so that I can make CD's from music I have stored on my external drive?

Probably more a matter of time, at least if there's interest in it, but might be a long time. Didn't Honeycomb just add USB host support? I don't think it would've been possible before that.

Not necessarily at all, not all manufacturers provide Linux drivers for their hardware (Android is linux underneath it all). As well, I'm not sure exactly how Linux drivers work, but each CD burner might need their own set of drivers
If the iso drivers are in the kernel, the system will know about cd/dvd disks and drives. The issues is a program to do the burning.

So I plugged in my external DVD writer, and the kernel currently is not reconigzing it.
So that is step 1, someone adding the drivers into the kernel.
After that, it is simly a matter of re-building cdrecorder and mkisofs for an ARM target and writing a little UI on top of it.

I would dust the laptop back off......There are not enough devs or support for at least another 2 yrs to have a bug free Android OS. Also you have the first model of about 15 major tabs in the next 2 yrs! Just because it has a docking station means nothing. Don't get me wrong i love Android.....but leaving windows 7 and coming up 8????? Not to mention all the bugs because its a "beta" product. Actually i wouldn't even call this Alpha..Android OS should of release a GOOGLE laptop first with all the correct hardware specs and almost bug free before letting anyone put there OS on a tablet and sell it...Every Honeycomb tablet that has been made has issues. And its the hardware not being fully compatible.

If you replaced android with another operating system on your post, that can apply to any OS system on the planet. Be it windows, osx, Linux or what ever a company puts out. Not one OS or hardware is immune. Perfect software only happens when it's on the drawing board. The longer android is out the better it gets..but honeycomb has been out a very short time and is only on 5 percent of the devices running google OS. There are more then enough developers for it.
I'm looking for an external dvd burner to work with the TF also. Seems like a lot of TF owners are looking too. Hopefully someone with xda will develop the software...
Not exactly what you want but it might help
Check out this product.....It adds an extra step and it would be kinda kludgy at best.......It is a standalone cd burner.

They also have a DVD burner. There may be others out there as well. I have been wanting this as well and don't really want to spend extra to get the capability right now at least.
Awesome! Definitely a solid solution. And a great idea in general! Thanks for the info

I don't think he's looking to reboot into a full-blown Ubuntu environment (where nothing else works) just to burn a DVD... The whole point of this thread is to get Android-native tools to do the burning - not setup some half-working OS to do the task...
I don't see what the Unix "cdrecord" and "mkisofs" utilities can't be ported over to Android. Although, I don't have the skills to do that, so maybe it's not such a trivial task...

"Using the camera exposed a major flaw in Ice Cream Sandwich, namely the lack of USB mass storage support"
Jesus. I sthotught it was pretty bad when Honeycomb didnt have this feature working on Macs. I thought to myself, "why would Google release a product that's clearly a prototype?" I then thought it was odd that they didn't fix the problem in 3.1 0r 3.2. seemd like a no brainer, like they had just rushed the original version. yet now they're even removing it from their flagship PHONE? a device meant to be used for its utility, meant to compete with the iPhone by having the basic features the iPhone doesn't have? and this is AFTER the phone doesn't have an sd card slot, either. you'd think they'd be smarter than this, with all the stability and security problems Android's been having due to the bloatware and related fragmentation. it's only real advantage over the iPhone is that it can do more, yet Google seems to be doing everything they can to slowly chip away at those functions.
Galaxy Nexus, setting the standard for Android.
5MP Camera
Aging GPU
No MicroSD
No USB Mass Storage
LoL. I still don't know why people are flabbergast over this devices, but to each his own I guess.
I just wanted a SGSII with a 1280x720 display. But since that's not coming stateside, I'm enjoying my SGSII
Odd how they didn't just turn the SGSII LTE HD into the Galaxy Nexus with a few tweaks. Instead, they downgraded the flagship Samsung phone and just threw ICS on it.
i totally agree with you there
it would have made much more logical to use SGS2 HD as a Galaxy Nexus than the low en phone they have released
ICS on SGS2 will easily blow the Nexus G away
Nexus S was the same (internal storage, video record quality, etc. )
Why are people surprised by this.
This is a prototype/reference handset and the only real benefit to it is the early access to new OS updates and apparently a penta-band HSPA+ radio.
Other than that, you're better off just waiting for an OEM to release an ICS device.
The only funny thing is that Google left the Android UI in such deplorable state so long that OEMs are so used to skinning it. They will even skin ICS with Sense and TouchWiz.
I must admit.I was a bit hopeful.for this device. With Google Music and Video Store live, the lack of an SD slot is a really big issue, IMO.
Also, the lack if a Search button is a Showstopper for me. Maybe an OEM will put it back in. I do like the interface cues they took from Apple and Microsoft, though. The UI looks like actual graphics instead of ASCII art now.

Guys I just don't believe that it lacks USB mass storage support based on one sentence in one Engadget review. Maybe the guy didn't have his Windows drivers installed or missed a setting somewhere, who knows.
They released the source earlier this week and we haven't heard a peep about this. Surely someone woulda noticed this by now if it were removed?
Anyway.. maybe it is true but I'm not gonna jump to conclusions just yet...

this. I'm pretty surprised by it, give that it's a GOOGLE made phone. the search button and its integration into apps is (was?) one of the best features onf Android, made navigating and finding files, contacts, anything you could think of so smooth and thoughtless, with one tap or press, always in the same spot without needing to distract yourself from anything else. now, google seems to be actually TRYING to kill it by relegating it to submenus.
look at Honeycomb: the "task" bar has so much potential, as a persistent bar that can be modified, upgraded, and given a myriad of quick functions due to being a screen based, persistent ~10 inch long area that could be able to launch a million functions. yet Google gives us only back, home, and app switcher. no search icon. even in apps that use the hardware search function on phones, a search button won't appear when you use them, yet menu will if they've been programmed to use the hardware menu key.
*shakes head* I thought Android was set to become THE dominant OS in the mobile sphere, but if Google keeps downgrading their product's most useful and unique functions while the iPhone copies the good ones, at the rate we're going, the iPhone may end up an overall better system by the end of 2012.
i use the search button almost every couple of minutes
makes it easy to find what i want, and read the websites i want in a blink of an eye
without it; i'll have to go the long arse way to find the app i want to run, then execute the app, then enter the website i want...
I don't know what studies they did. Microsoft destroyed the WP contextual search button and now I barely use that phone. Replacing search with app switcher when there's more than enough Tom to fit it there?
Idiotic.
Unless an OEM mods it back in, this won't be usable to me. Its not something I cab just get used to. It completely destroys the way I use my devices.

MTP quite likely. I hate that ****. It makes navigation, copying, pasting renaming etc annoying and slow compared to standard windows explorer.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yep, Android is MTP from now on. This switch already actually happened with the first version of Honeycomb. Supposedly a benefit is that the SD card doesn't have to be unmounted and remounted when transferring files. If you search online you can find some quotes from Google dev's on the topic of MTP.
I don't have a Galaxy Nexus to test, but I do have a Galaxy S II which defaults to MTP instead of mass storage USB. This is fine as it means it works perfectly with existing media managers, which is what I expect most consumers want.
That said, you can enable Mass Storage by checking USB Debugging in the Development section of settings. I suspect it's the same in the Galaxy Nexus.
TL;DR This report is unlikely to be true.
The Google Search Widget is integrated on every homescreen in ICS.
Funny, that's one of the things fandroids tend to bring up when discussing androids advantage over other OSes... And it was one of few valid points they had.
I suppose its a good thing then that Android has many OEMs that will probably provide the feature.
i have been toying with this idea for the last few years. neptune suite had this concept to run android from a smart watch onto "dumb" screens. would there be a way to use LTE to run a OS from a home server? if the speeds wouldnt be fast enough would doing it locally be possible? would it need 5g speeds?
the reason behind this is the low life expectancy behind phones today. this could be a possible solution to run android on a computer/server that you can upgrade over time. it will host the os to any "dumb" screens.
im more curious if anyone knows if this is possible technically.
Thanks!

PC already has its own way of running Android and PC can share screen with any device that can connect on the same network so this is not only possible, it's already being done. In more than one way and with more than a few software/hardware combinations.

say i wanted a 1 to 1 emulation of N casted to my phone or a "dumb" screen. does a program exist that can host android including touch screen inputs?
Now that i think about it maybe a better comparison would be how chrome os runs on a computer. can you do that with android but 100% of the entire os ? and instead of google hosting it, i host it from my own server.

You can host anything installed on PC, you use an emulator on the PC to run a full android OS on PC then use one of the various apps for remotely accessing PC.
With that you can run Android on PC and view and use it from your smartphone.

alright awesome thank you. guess ill have to test it out and see how smooth it runs.
do you know a program that would use 802.11ad? if i wanted to set up a local system

You might actually be interested in a Raspberry Pi, they can run virtually any OS you want to install and they're fun to put together.

i have a Pi for this application i would want something which all the components are upgradable. and something i could bring with me and carry in a backpack.
can you think of any way to accomplish everything that a modern phone provides without having to get a new phone every(or every other) year? you can get a pc or a playstation, or tv or many other things and easily be comfortable using it for 5+ years. but not phones. i often brainstorm about different ways to make this happen. even if its stupidly complex and diy. just fun to think about

I can't really see it being that feasible without upgrading to a newer phone as time goes by. Mobile hardware/software evolves faster than PC these days. After a few years, a mobile device can't keep up, even with the setup you are looking for because in the end, you're still trying to do everything from a mobile device, no matter how you loop it, you're still on dated mobile hardware.

I have not. And I know who the hacker is. She is the mother of my kids and is about to loose custody of our 3 kids to me. She is also a bit coin miner that hijacks devices to do her dirty work. She is very experienced and I know this for a fact. It's her job. I just need to know how to SSH into the memory that she put the script in.

She has been scamming me and harassing me for 9 months. Trying to get me to click on a fabricated email with script embedded. She finally got her way. Took her almost 8 months the of trying.
I most definitely have never installed any remote desktop server or clients but I know she has. I have found them and Uninstalled. Numerous times. She has been deleting recovery emails and adding saved passwords all day. And that's just today.
If she's such a pro, bring it to a real geek professional than relying on advice from forum. She might have copied it to some partitions which are not formatted by default.

I think you are right. I'll have to check with the fbi and make sure they are done making a copy. Homeland already made theirs. They are classifying it as an act of terror.

take your phone to pro, you are already sc***ed
And no a different phone doesn't stop her. I already did a burner phone with all new email addresses and my name no where on it

Great. Here we go. She is now back on. Messing with this forum for me. I doubt you all can see it but she is doubling up messages and moving my screen around. Crap. Oh well. If you want to email me. It's [email protected]
I did 20 to 25 full erase factory resets in a row. Still was back after the last one. I have 2 other phones she is in and 3 laptops as well.
how can you say so, plz send some screenshot. I dont think she did anything ...
I'm not exactly sure what you would like to see for a screen shot. I am running on a drive that is obviously emulated on my screen and supposedly I have 43 sensors on a fold 2. Maybe that's counting all the drivers for the sensors on my phone to connect to her phone along with all the sensors on her device. I know for a fact that at one point she had my OS running on an s21. She told me I wouldn't be able to prove it. I'm too stubborn to give up. Lol. Here is 2 screen shots. One is my hard disks and the other is my 42 sensors.

Yup. Sure thing. Whatever you say. It's very much real. It's actually very crazy. No one on here has offered me any real input. I'm not making this up. It is very much real. And although it is extremely difficult to do it is possible. Especially for someone that can program on the run and has professional and commercial experience. It's all good.
I'm not sure how she would manage to get on a burner phone too. I'm pretty sure it's possible to hack into a router & infect devices connected to it if you're using the same wifi network. You could try getting a new router & a new burner phone & don't connect any other devices you may have to the new router in case they're infected. And don't open emails from addresses you don't recognize. I would suggest going to geek squad or something like that rather than a forum though.
Ando do a malware scan on any other devices you have if possible. If you have another way to connect those devices to internet like tethering, you could try Trend Micro housecall. It's a free online malware scanner.

How do you know you're being hacked?
Tough to take this seriously and as fact.
But if you are, why haven't you gone to the authorities?
First of all this is fold 3 section not fold 2.
Secondly leave the phone to local police and tell them your wife or gf is hacking into your phone and let specialist att police go through your phone and if they find it's true they will grab evidence out of the phone and then arrest her for suspicious of hacking and they will use evidence when interviewing her and asking her that they found traces of her hacking the person's phone and such. Not last but least if higher up person decides to is do house warrant at her home so they will go home to her take all of her computer stuff including tablets and phones as part of investigation and they will check through all of them.
If you keep reseting your phone you are getting rid of all evidence from her and she will have lower chance of being sued in court and sentenced to jail for her criminal behaviour.
These sensors comes from your hardware nothing she's doing lmaoz. All smart phones have these sensors
