My Nexus S are having difficult to deal with my carrier in Brazil. My carrier works at 850/1900 GSM and my Nexus S with automatic band selection is jumping through one band to another and I'm losting signal frequently.
Is there a way to manually select the band?

Hi,
i live in argentina, and i found i dont have 3g coverage.
bands in argentina are http://www.mobileworldlive.com/maps/network.php?cid=3206&cname=Argentina
Do anyone know if is there a way to config my xt720 to bands 850/1900?
tks!
There isn't anything to configure. The phone automatically defaults to the 850/1900 bands when 3G isn't available.
but if in my country bands ar 850/1900, why do i only have edge?

You probably won't ever get 3G due to different bands on the phone versus your country's. Edge only.

To expand on what the Rev said from what i know in North America all XT720s that were sold, were W-CDMA/AWS i.e. their 3G bands were 1700mhz down link and 2100mhz uplink. Although they did have quad band 2G i.e. GSM 850/900/1800/1900.
So if in Argentina they are using 3G frequencies 850mhz down link 1900mhz uplink then the xt720 will never get 3G HSPA, phones from the following carriers will work Telstra NextG phones (Australian), Rogers (Canadian), Bell New 3G (Canadian), Telus New 3G (Canadian), and AT&T (USA).
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I didn't know the specifics off the top of my head, I just knew it wasn't going to work.
I got this korean version of lg g2 320s. This is for the SK Telecom carrier in S Korea. When I use this in India, I am able to use only gprs on this. I have tried setting the apns manually but not able to get 2G or 3G to work.
When i go to network settings it shows only 2 options for Network Mode. first is LTE preferred and second is 3G only. My carrier Idea says i need to select wcdma which i don't see.
I went thru some forums before posting here and tried 5457#*320# i tried changing band selection but still my device wont get 2G or 3G signal.
Then I thought this problem may be because of the OS, so I rooted my phone and installed Cynogenmod 12 custom Lollipop ROM for my phone.
Now I see following options to select for the preferred network type:
WCDMA preferred
GSM only
WCDMA only
GSM auto(PRL)
CDMA auto(PRL)
In spite of selecting WCDMA preferred my phone shows network type as "GPRS". I tried changing the bands but it also didn't help.
These are the bands I see in radio switcher.
Euro Band (GSM-900/DCS-1800/WCDMA-IMT-2000)
USA Band (GSM-850/PCS-1900/WCDMA-850/WCDMA-PCS-1900)
For India following networks a re supported.
2G capabilities -- GSM 900, GSM 1800
3G capabilities - UMTS 2100
4G capabilities - LTE 1800, LTE 2300
It would be great if you can guide me to the right forum to get some pointers
Thanks in advance.

MetroPCS is a US prepaid wireless service offered by T-Mobile US. MetroPCS uses T-Mobile US's GSM (1900MHz), a combination of UMTS/HSPA+(850MHz/1900MHz) and their 4G LTE networks.
For UMTS (3G) MetroPCS works on bands 2 and 4. UMTS B2(1900 PCS) and B4(1700/2100 AWS 1).
For LTE (4G) MetroPCS works on bands 2, 4, 12, 66 and 71. LTE B2(1900 PCS), B4(1700/2100 AWS 1), B12(700 ac), B66(1700/2100) and B71(600).
Samsung Galaxy S8+ G955FD supports all these UMTS/LTE bands except the B71(600) band. Usually GSM operators use higher frequency bands like the 2100/1900 MHz bands and rarely they use the lower frequency bands like the 700/600 MHz bands. So your G955FD will work flawlessly on 3G/4G MetroPCS network.
You can use LTE Discovery app from Google play store to check your band online while using your mobile. You get the band number on the Notification bar real time.

Thank you for this very detailed post! I do have one more question though. Do I need to flash any CSC? It seems like I was getting much better connection on my Nexus 6P than I am on this phone right now.
I'm running Renovate ICE 14.1 right now and I'm wondering if its possible to flash Snapdragon CSC on Exynos variants. I have tried it before on completely stock rom with no luck, but I have seen people say its okay to flash Snapdragon CSC on the Exynos variant of this device. Once again I really appreciate all this information <3
