My Nexus S are having difficult to deal with my carrier in Brazil. My carrier works at 850/1900 GSM and my Nexus S with automatic band selection is jumping through one band to another and I'm losting signal frequently.
Is there a way to manually select the band?

HSPA only on: 900, 2100, 1700
What does it means when I click on the Select Radio Band that shows
USA Band
EURO Band
Japan BAND
AUS BAND
AUS2 BAND?

It is my understanding that the 3g network coming out in the USA from T Mobile is WCDMA which is a duel band 1700/2100 system where as the European system is 1900/2100 meaning that the tri band phones ( my TYTN II ) will not work on this new 3g system. Is there any way to change my phone to 1700/2100 from 1900/2100. The duel bands are one for uploading to the tower and the other to download to the phone. In the USA the 1900 band is used for pda service thus T mobile is going with the 1700 band.
Possible to lock the band to GSM only ?

Go to Start>Settings>Phone>More.
First one should be band selection. Highlight it and press Get settings.
You will be able to select the frequency band.
- Automatic
- GSM 900 / 1800
- GSM 1900
- WCDMA
Select either GSM 900 / 1800 OR GSM 1900 depending on your network carrier.
Last, RTFM.
thx !!
I'm going to buy i780 and just want to make sure I can log into 2G band, 'cos the signal of local 3G provider is really suxk. And FYI, I RTFM already, but it never mentioning the band locking/choosing.....
Hi folks, I using SNS form 4 months. I am not able to see any option related 3G data option in "Mobile Network Settings" screen.
I am in India.
Android Version 2.3.3
My network provider operates GSM Tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900) or Quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900).
Any additional information also appreciative.
the original model i9020 only works on 1700/2100 for 3G
and quad band for voice
possibly that's why you are unable to get 3G
you might want to sell it and get the AT&T version of SNS that operates on the 850/1900 for 3G
mine is i9020 but it will support for quad band 900 and my network provider is operating at Quad 900. If I am wrong correct me please.

the AT&T version is the I9020A and should work on the proper frequencies. Keep in mind that voice and data use separate bands.
well true

it does suppose to work on 900 for 3G
did you configure the APN settings for your cell phone provider?
By default APN's are configured by network provider. I am getting only EDGE connection. I have tried with *#*#4636#*#* and tried to change preferred network type to "WCDMA only" and "WCDMA Preferred" where default network type is "GSM/CDMA auto". But everything is in vain.
My network provider is Airtel. Any suggestions?
"My network provider operates GSM Tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900) or Quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900)."
You have given us only the network's GSM bands. Not the 3G ones.
If it DOES support 3G, then check those bands. If it doesn't support 3G, then, well... it's pretty obvious why it doesn't work.
Hi Everybody.
I am currently running simcard modded photon q with Wcdma preferred set under testing-> phone info (*#*#4636#*#*) in germany with gsm/umts/hsdpa provided by o2. I wonder which setting under phone info causes what. Playing around with those settings I experienced different cases. Sometimes I only got gprs (G in statusbar) Sometimes I got no Signal at all or only 3g and no gprs.
On some Settings I got no signal at all.
What I would like to sort out is: what are those settings for, and which one is to prefere in gsm/umts based networks?
Also I experienced different Signal strength between those settings.
All in all I have the feeling the signal strength is weaker then with my old motorola milestone especially in buildings or cars/ busses.
So I want to make sure I've set up all correctly.
The again

WCDMA is on bands 850 / 1900 / 2100 (not on 900!). GSM is quadband, and there is no EDGE.

What does that mean? If set to gum auto pre I won"t have edge, or dose it mean photon q is unable to use edge? So GSM contains all wcdma frequencies plus one additional?

GSM is quadband = bands: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900. And the phone doesn't support EDGE, just 2.5G.
Okay thanks for this info already.
So to sort things out GSM auto (PRL) is the way to go here in Germany. Now what is the difference between GSM only and GSM auto (PRL)
GSM only is no 3G. GSM auto is both GSM / UMTS.
After further investigation and considering:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Mobile_Telecommunications_System#Situation_in_Deutschland
and
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_System_for_Mobile_Communications#Situation_in_Deutschland
I would either lack the 900 band with WCDMA on GSM
or the 2100 band on UMTS.
Or am I reading those frequencytables wrong?
You're absolutely fine with the bands. 2100 for 3G (WCDMA or UMTS-FDD), and 900/1800 for 2.5G.

Okay Thanks for the explanation and info.
Just to make this noob safe:
Using GSM auto (PRL) is the right choice for O2 in Germany?!
Yes.
So i just bought a LG G PRO 2 checked it everything seemed to work fine
But then i realized the network connection drops every few mins and reconnects only to a G signal (2G)
so upon further investigation i discover that the band frequency on this model is CDMA eg. USA + Canada
To say im P*&^ed off is an understatement clearly the person who sold me this is aware and is now ignoring any contact i try to make with him
I have contacted LG to see if i can possible purchase a motherboard for model D837 or D838 as i see this is my only option to get the device working
Unless anyone here can advise otherwise
Once i go into the band selection screen and disable CDMA bands it seems to sustain a stable connection but only to a 2G network haven't been into a 4G area as of yet to test but it is completely incapable of connection to a 3G frequency within the uk which i will be connected to 80% of the time
not 100% with the F350 but the frequencies for it should be:
2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
3G: UMTS 2100 MHz
4G: LTE 850 / 1800 MHz
2G is fine, as UK uses 900/1800.
3G: all UK networks at 2100.
4G: only EE/3 use the 1800MHz frequency. no-one uses 850 in UK.
look around the forum for the secret menu and see if you need to enable 3G/4G manually. or do a manual firmware update.
,My Wife has an F320S (G2)and she can enable all Bands in the Hidden Menu and works fine in Europe in Austria.Network Operator is Three (HG3).
I think the F350S is the same.
Go to Dialer and tipe 5457#*350#
in Modem Settings can you aktivate all Bands what you need
I hope this works for you.
Thanks for the reply guys
There's loads of settings in the hidden menu
I cant see how changing anything in here will help as it is a CDMA device which means it physically does not have the necessary hardware to connect to a 3G network in the UK
As it uses a totally different technology than UMTS
Ive discovered at WCDMA is actually UMTS so i cant see why it doesn't work ?

Those are the default settings that the device is on so no joy with that thanks anyway
using my EE sim signal drops frequently using my daughters O2 sim it seems to sustain a connection but again only to 2G network
Clearly the problem is the WCDMA bands on the device are 850 / 1900 / 2100 while 2100 is used here 900 is the more widely available and thus incompatible with device
I think my only option is to sell it on but to who its no use to anyone in the UK really
