Sync toggle in Notification Panel - Sony Xperia 5 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, just bought the Xperia 5 two days ago. I noticed that the Sync toggle isn't in the Notification Panel.
Is this normal with Xperia 5?

Yes.

Thanks. Is there any way to enable it? Did you root your phone and if you did, what rom did you use and what's your experience so far?

I moved over from Samsung Note 10 and I must say it's a much better phone in everything. Its hugely surprising about the difference in quality between both phones.

Not without a custom ROM, I guess. I've no reason to need a sync toggle, but no doubt you have your reasons.
Yes, rooted. Stock ROM. Very happy with it, just waiting for 11 to drop. I expect it to be around December.

Hi Kboya, after flashing the rom, were you able to install specific customizations eg, changing of fonts etc?

Stock ROM, as stated. I've no interest in changing fonts. If you want to do that kind of thing you need a custom ROM or there might be suitable Magisk modules

Is there any reason to NOT install the OTA update?

It isn't a full ROM update so it won't wipe us clean, right?
Does it change any of our customized settings or disable any functionality that people may have enabled for themselves (such as wifi hotspot)?
Any reason at all not to install it?
Thanks.

Are you stock unrooted?
If yes, you shouldn't have any issues. Both my parents have bone stock inspires and did the OTA with no complaints.
Believe me, if they would've lost anything or had any problems, I would have been the first to hear about it.
If no, you won't be able to do the OTA anyway, you'll have to get the equivalent over in the dev section.

[Q] auto 2g / 3g switching

Hey,
I got a problem with my Nexus 5. Since I have switched to this phone i can't use the rule for auto 2G / 3G switching in Tasker when screen goes off. It says it is not supported. I am rooted of course, but still don't use a custom rom.... oh and I have franco.kernel. Any idea where the problem is?
Thanks!

afaik that would work only on non stock rom, it's a matter of accessing apis that were protected times ago or that are now removed. I don't think there's a solution.. but i don't know if someone made an xposed module for that or even if it is possible.

Ok. Thanks for the info. So I need to install a custom ROM. I am still waiting for CM11. Hope it will be here soon.

New to all of this

Ok so I'm new to the OPO and new to flashing a custom rom. I just bought a OPO on ebay (for $115) and want to flash it as it still has the original cyanogen installed on it. I'm thinking Oxygen, but I'm not against Lineage. It looks pretty straightforward based on some of the videos I've watched on YouTube. Any recommendations on a good and easy rom for a n00b to install and use? Stability and usability will be my highest priorities right now.

It's actually still in the mail, I'm just trying to prep in advance I actually had a choice between 2 for that price range, the other had Oxygen already installed, so I figured he had already rooted it. So this one I have no idea, but I do believe it's unmodded.

Root - yes? no? and why?

Hey guys, I'm really debating. I very much want to improve the quality of the camera on the device and it can only be done with the gcam, the problem that for getting the best out of gcam i need root. Basically this is the only reason for me. So I turn it to you, do you think, should Root be made to the device?
Hello mate, you have no choice if you want to install GCAM and some others cool stuff in the future, root is necessary.

For 90% of users, it's not necessary to get root since Oreo and Pie but to install some app like GCAM and Vanced, it's necessary because to modify the OS implantation and then to be able to install those apps.
Root give you the full and entire access of your phone. With caution.

If you have to ask for a reason, root may not be for you.
With root you will lose Google Widevine L1. So you can't see HD contents on Prime Video, Netflix and similar.
Despite this, it is useful for some reasons that khalisz has already said.
I think rooting and voiding your 700euro phone warranty is not worth it at all for a few apps.

I don't believe it voids warranty. OnePlus encourages development and root. If u even go to their site for some devices they show u can install stock with custom recovery. Did that on a few past devices.

Wrong !
it does not void your warranty when you unlock the bootloader with OnePlus.

I have rooted all my oneplus and returned some of them to OnePlus even without locking bootloader.. no questions asked
OnePlus has always been dev-friendly. I always root because of my apps. I have games I've been playing for over 8 years that I'd lose the data for if I didn't root
This phone is so developer friendly why would you not root? You won't screw up the phone by rooting and if you're someone who has never rooted before then this would be a good device to learn on.

I sent my OnePlus 5 in to service to get the gyroscope replaced after having it rooted etc. Just make sure to go stock and relock everything before you send it.

Wow, what a great post. This is me actually, I just ordered op7pro looking forward to many options etc, been samsung for the last 7 years exclusively.
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
For me rooting is not worth it since i can do all i want without rooting. Sideload mods apks,. Use adb command (native call recording, force 90hz all time etx) . Plus oxygen os is already a modded version of stock android. Most of what oxygent os include u would have to root a pixel to get it. While not rooted all my apps work. No worries about my bank app not working (yes most bank apps work but UNTIL WHEN) or netflix and other movie apps refuses to play at higher resolution only because of root.
Getting my updates over the air. Root is great for but those whi have the time.

Question New 7Pro - advice on how to proceed with rooting?

Hello!
Just got my 7P from the Black Friday sale (I'm in Europe so a friend who was flying in got it for me).
Still haven't turned it on. Question: should I update first, then root? Or root first, then update?
Maybe it's a silly question and the answer is "update first because updating will remove rooting anyhow", but I don't know if they have maybe changed something lately and rooting is more difficult or whatever...
Thanks!
Yu can always update your phone, some you will, before and after root
So if it's all the same I guess I'll update first or I'll have to re-root...
You can update to beta & then root. No worries. However, If you want to install a custom rom, you may want to stay on 12 until checking the requirements of the ROM.

The Pixel 7 series came with Android 13 so there is no Android 12 for this device.

If you want to update while keep root you can use Pixel Flasher.
i gonna suggest to disable dm-verity at the first time as well, so if in the future you opt to use custom kernel (which i think, you should) you wont need to wipe your phone

Oh yeah, meant some ROMs require the November update and aren't ready for the December update
Yeah, custom ROMs lie in the future for now... but coming from OnePlus I am familiar with official ROM/fw requirements for them, thanks!
I've got one too in the last week ..Been so long and never had a pixel so I'm afraid to try it ..Need a new kernel ,only getting 4-5 SOT ..

Running newest beta just released ..I got pixel to root and stuff..Phones are boring now ..But I gotta figure it out soon as I get time .Just haven't had time yet
When I got mine, before I even inserted the SIM, I connected to WiFi and updated Android and Google Play, then I inserted the SIM, ran through the setup quickly, unlocked bootloader, rebooted and rooted using Pixel Flasher, wiping Veritas and Verification. That way for any future updates, I would be set to flash with PF, moving forward and that has been very simple
Thanks, awesome. Sounds like a great tool, wish there was something like that for OnePlus!
