Hi!
I have a problem that drives me mad: I have a m3u8 playlist with IPTV channels. I can watch TV on all of my mobile and home devices with this playlist - TV, PC, Mac, iPhone. But! If I play this playlist on my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra - video quality automatically switches (I don't know if I can call it 'adapt') to low bitrate: 5000 kbps with Wi-Fi and 500 kbps instead after turning Wi-Fi off.
4G quality is very stable and fast but it switches bitrate to low all the time! It's more weird because if I share this LTE connection from another device and start playing playlist with Wi-Fi connected - it doesn't degrade bitrate!
For the record:
- playlist plays fine without degrade with the same SIM card on iPhone 11 Pro Max.
- playlist plays fine without degrade with the same SIM card on Samsung Note 10+.
- playlist plays fine without degrade with the same SIM card on Samsung S8.
- playlist plays fine without degrade with the same SIM card on Samsung S8+.
But:
- playlist plays WITH degraded bitrate on Samsung Tab S7.
What are those new settings or parameters for Android Samsung applied that makes IPTV to degrade bitrate?
Thanks in advance.
A few things I can think of that may cause this.
What video player are you using? / Have you tried a different player?
Is video enhancer on in settings?
Does your carrier throttle video ect to 480? (Most do.) But won't always throttle Hotspot data.

Hi! Thank you for your reply.
1. OttPlayer / VLC - result is the same
2. Yes but I don't think it may be a reason (on Galaxy Note 10+ and S8/S8+ it's enabled too)
3. I've called my carrier's technical support but they said that my tariff doesn't throttle anything. Besides I've forgot to mention that problem persists on two different carriers (I've tried two different SIM cards).
So the problem is in Note 20 Ultra/ Tab S7 for sure. But what is the reason for trouble I can't get.

Yes that is quite puzzling. I know that with most streaming apps. Like netflix, Youtube, disney+ the device chooses what quality of stream ti choose from while the host / server is usually streaming or atleast rendering multiple streams for it at different bitrates. (Basically this is agreeing that the device is just choosing a lower bitrate thinking there may be a network issue with the stream or speed issue.)
I haven't used VLC in a long while, but is there a way to force highest quality like in youtube / netflix? Curious if you can force it if it will play and buffer throughout?
Also what software version is your phone running currently? Last 4 and security update.

That's an interesting problem that only shows up on Samsung's new devices.
I have many questions though, like, how did you set up your devices, as new or from backup?
Does this only happen with IPTV or it also happens with other streaming apps?
Running any special dns or vpns?
Is data saver on?
Have you tried reseting network settings yet?
Have you tried disabling com.qualcomm.embms?
I was going to suggest checking data saver also.
Maybe even turn off optimization on battery usage for the app in use (or all together for testing). I have heard the optimizer loves to cause throttling issues for streams speed and everything else in between.

Nope. I'd like to remind that smartphones with the same SIM card and same settings but not Note 20 Ultra or Tab S7 show stream smoothly without degrading bitrate.

To reset network settings : it will revert all network changes to default
Settings»general management» reset» reset network settings
After reset network settings restart your phone see it improves.
Also do you mind posting a link to the IPTV Playlist so I can check it out on my devices too. You can post it here or Direct message

I've sent you private message with one of channels that degrades bitrate. Check it please.
Resetting network settings didn't make difference.

I was thinking of removing the app from the optimize list so it can use full resources and not get throttled by the system.
Since the note 20 series has 'smart ai usage and optimization' it may be auto throttling for battery usage.

I've tried a number of different m3u8 streams (direct links) and find that VLC buffers A LOT with bit rate jumping all over the place 161 to 6200. A couple other players from the play store seems to play the stream just fine, not sure what's up with VLC.

What players did u try?
Can someone confirm (or not)this?? Still on note 9 here and was considering upgrading but this would make me waiting more.
And OP : can you try say iptv extreme to check your streams quality ? VLC not the best for iptv (not for me at least).

I can't even remember all the ones I've tried but I've found that IPTV works great. I'll upload screenshots below.
I've tried the playlist you've PM'd me and it works just fine in IPTV. I find IPTV to be more comfortable to use and seems to do 60fps video stream I'm not too sure but it does seem like it. It shows the full playlist and is fast to load them (well most of them). It does buffer on some of the streams like sk* au streams and f*x streams but not so bad as when using VLC.
Just FYI I have a snapdragon device so we're sort of fundamentally using different devices so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Yeah iptv extreme does work. Quality is good too but just like in IPTV app some streams do buffer.

I've tried IPTV Extreme and it does the same as other players so we can assume that the reason is not Stream or Player - it's device.
By the way I've uploaded screen rec to show what I meant: https://youtu.be/qwIN8LmFce4
OMG guys... I'm really confused how this could happen but I've found solution: it was about Samsung MAX app which provides free VPN! The point is: it has several tabs including Wi-Fi and Mobile connection settings. And default mobile option "Data saving mode" was turned on! That's why it was degrading bitrate! Unfortunately it didn't show any badges or window telling me that now I have data saving mode on or something.
So I'm really sorry and thank you for trying to help. It was my fault.

I had severe buffering issues with my Infinity that I returned and when I was playing with the Note at BB it was taking forever to buffer on YouTube but I chalked that up to BB poor/overloaded WiFi. Hoping when my 32g Note arrives this week it buffers better on my home WiFi. I'll update as soon as my Note arrives.

The issue seems to be if you have the video set to HD. Must be a YouTube specific issue as this tablet gets excellent WiFi signal. Hmmm will have to contact Samsung about this, should have no YouTube lag at all one tablet of this quality.
Is there an app that helps cache YouTube for android like there is for PC's?

Haven't had this issue with updated YouTube version 4.0.23. Been playing a lot of Lady Gagy videos to test since they're high quality HD with clean sound. They start within a few seconds of clicking and buffer far in advance of play with no pause over a wimpy 4864/768kbps DSL. Suggest updating the app and making sure your broadband can play on another device such as PC/laptop and if on WIFI try a different channel with less interference from other access points.
No issues whatsoever using the YouTube App or playing YouTube videos from within Opera or the stock browser.

The problem with lag-diagnosis always is to exactly find out WHERE in the chain of data transmission ther might be a lag:
An example:
I open the browser, search and find an American site (which might be complex, buggy, not coded minimalisticly) hosted on an American server and want to load it:
I call the site
Now if the server is very busy my request will be delayed (waiting circle), then the data packets are transferred from host server to regional node then to a central node, then to the undersea data cable to the European central node, then to a local node and then to me home to my router. In alot of cases the data transferral is even much more complex and inclides many more transferral steps.
Now the data packets are transmitted from the router via WiFi to my SGN10.1:
Also here a lot of obstacles could reduce the transferral rate of the data packets and cause a lagginess: distance, how many WiFi devices are connected to the router and are they active or not (e.g. in case my 3 other Galaxy devices and notebook download updates from the Play-store data transferral rate drops to almost zero) or is there another device producing electromagnetic disturbances so that data packets are distorted and have to be reloaded.
Only if all data packets are transferred at maximum speed and arrive undistorted and You find a lag THEN You can speak of a device's lagginess and even THEN You might not know if the lag is not produced by the device itself but some other background apps or apps that secretely send infos or download/upload bloat thus blocking Your processor or surfing.
On 3G/HSP/LTE the issue could be even worse if the PROVIDER decides that everytime there is an interruption in the data transferral the data connection is interrupted to give other participants logged to the cell/radio mast more bandwidth. And THIS differs a lot between different providers HOW they handle the requests for bandwidth. (If You are on 3G You can see this on the graph for the battery in settings how the reception is and this differs a lot even if You don´t move the device from the spot)
You can blame a device to be laggy only when data stored in the internal memory and are scrolled through show lagginess.
I have several VideoOnDemand applications of local TV channels.
After a long time I haven't wath any TV series, I tried to do so but I can't because video quality is distort (audio is OK).
The problem is for all 4 different applications (actually, something strange, the commercial that the application runs on the begining shows OK).
In the meantime, I'm watching those TV series by the browser (choosing full screen video) rather than the application.
YouTube is working fine.
Thanks,
Danny

Hi!
I searched everywhere, but couldn't find answer to my problem. Maybe you can help me.
I have N8000 with JB 4.1.2 (N8000XXCMA2) with Allshare Play app 1.0 (201302250623). I love Allshare, because I can play my HD mkv files with subtitles without any problems. That is, I could play. Now every time I try to open a file from my PCs (i have two laptops, and it's the same) with "mobile optimization" unchecked I got "sorry this video cannot be played" message. What's bizarre, I can play files with "mobile optimization" on, but the quality is really crappy, subs do not work, and I can't forward or reverse it (it plays like live stream). What's more bizarre, I can play files normally with BubbleUPnP, using default player (but it's choppy, and doesn't show all files, so it's not as reliable as Allshare Play).
I really don't know why it stopped working. I believe it might have something to do with frequent updates of the app, or maybe with JB update. Don't know. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I have found that if your video has a data rate of higher than 3800 kbps it will most likely not stream.
I think it all depends on the speed of your router so yours may not be the same as mine.

Like I said before, it had been working since day one, and then stopped, so the bandwidth or date rate is not the issue here.
I enjoy watching videos that are hosted on my PC though Windows File Staring. MX Player plays them fine but does not buffer enough video to prevent hiccups in playback. This is especially true with very complex scenes in 1080p. Copying the same video to my device will play uninterrupted, leading me to believe this is an inadequate buffering issue. Pressing pause will not pre-buffer any large amount of video as the user might expect.

Version 2.0 huh. I was hoping this would be something that finds its way into [perhaps] the next minor update. Change some integer value from 50 to 300 and call it good.

Hello mrsdan1940: I don't understand your question. So let me gather some information to see if I can help you. Is your primary language English? Are you using the program MX Player for Android? It's a video audio media player for your mobile or tablet device.
Hello everyone,
There's a strange problem with the device, I do not know if anyone else has come across it yet. As I know the device supports the flac file.
Both apps do not play flac files.
deezer plays some songs and then pops a message "the requested content is not loading"
This happens both through wfi and when I use the cellular network. I have no problem using a router for 4k content in Netflix. Deezer's technical support says they have no idea what I'm talking about.
I checked the app on Samsung A8 with the same router, the app works great.
I suspect it's something to do with settings, or a software problem.
I've tried so far:
1. Change the application management to manual management
2. Cancel lte volte
3. Delete and reinstall the app
4. Reset device to factory settings
Does anybody have any idea?
Thanks in advance
Not sure about FLAC, but I have Deezer and using with my P20 Pro (Canadian version) and do not have any trouble.
If you give some tips to test FLAC with my phone, I will do it quickly, I am curious.
I was under the impression that Deezer hifi wasn't available through the android app for normal download/streaming. It's only available for streaming to Chromecast or similar. At least that's the only options I have.

My apologies, I am on Deezer Premium Trial and I can not switch to Hifi without being charged full cost.
Really sorry, I am really curious.
Hope someone could test and take us noticed.
I have no option to stream hifi, yet I have the correct account and can stream flac on my pc and squeezebox (ick stream).
And from what I can see from deezer's support android only works through casting to another supported device, otherwise it's 320kbs HQ

Even deezer's forum has stated that neither iOS or Android support direct steaming in Hifi yet.

thanks for checking it up!
most of the time im streaming it via Bluetooth to my car head unit with no problems
the problems start when im using my p20 pro without streaming (no headphones as well)
question, even if android cant support hifi playing without streaming to another device
why my p20 pro is working and then after few songs getting jam? even more what kind of sound quality my p20 is outputting? cuz im still getting hifi symbol when im playing songs direct from the p20.
have you look at my video? you can see it.
another thing, its not ok that deezer dosent saying anything in the ad that show that hifi plan
its kind of stupid.
Just watched your video, HQ is 320kbs MP3 not flac I'm afraid.
As for the loading issue I can't say I've experienced any problems (UK based if it makes any difference) but I'll have a play and see if I can replicate it.

i think i understand what happen.
i took the hifi plan via pc (this is why you didnt saw hifi plan option in your p20)
i think this is why my p20 is jaming when its playing music.
i didnt notice that hq =mp3
i think that they should have mention the android limitation in the plan page in advance
this is the only reason that i took it. in 2019 its funny that android cant do it direct
i should downgrade my plan
thanks mate
No worries.
I agree it's daft that they have limited their market for their hifi subscription by making it available through a select number of products. It does seem a pretty half-hearted attempt to compete with tidals flac streaming.
But allegedly it's coming......
