Dropped my Ultra and smashed rear 5x zoom glass! - Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Questions & Answers

Dopped my Ultra yesterday which has a case fitted but it fell on a stone which penetrated the 5x zoom glass (pic attached). A bit gutted as I've only had the phone a few weeks.
Just wondering if you think it can be repaired by a local phone repairer?
As this is a China only phone, do you think that they will be able to get the parts needed for a repair?
Thanks in advance

Surprisingly it can still take images using the 5x lens even though it looks like below. I assume there is some loss of clarity as I took this images right after the accident

Smashed my camera too!
As it's the transparent glass back, there is only one facility that can repair it. Luckily I'm in China so I can send it back to Xiaomi. If you are outside China you might be SOL.
That glass broke way to easily!

You can find the camera module here. But not sure about the back glass. You can mail them and ask. Maybe they can help.

I found a site called, "cellspare". They have the whole rear glass. However, they're $100. As far as repair goes, the Mi 10 Ultra is no different than a Samsung to replace the rear glass.
Heat it up, make a small gap, and separate the adhesive. Any competent tech should be able to do it. It might even be something you could do on your own.

Broken glass in front of lens

so i dropped my fuze the other day taking it out of the case and when it hit the ground the cover and battery came off and out. i put it back together to inspect the damage and didnt see anything wrong (i was outside at night in a parking lot). when i got back to my house i looked over the phone again in the light and noticed that it looked like my camera lens was all cracked. it turns out that only the square piece of glass in front of the camera was broken and i peeled it off and the camera seems to work fine without it. does anyone know if this affects the lens at all by being exposed and where i might be able to get another square glass cover??? the original one seemed to be glued down so i dont see why i couldnt glue another thin piece of glass overtop of it???
you can probably check out how thick the glass was and then cut off a small piece and glue it down with a normal glue just so it sticks... it's mostly to protect the lens,
yea it has to be 1 mm at most its really small. i'll take it to a camera shop and see if they have anything i can use to fit in where it was. thanks
i dropped my first fuze from a short distance and that little piece of glass broke around the sides. i think its just a noise filter. the camera still worked but there was alot of extra noise which almost seemed to pulse on the image. im taking better care of my replacement fuze.
did att give you a new replacement for free? i think i am just going to hold on to this one and flash it a few times until the fortress comes out sometime at the end of the summer.

Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like it basically split in half? Damn. That sucks. I was thinking about how that could happen earlier today.
Unfortunately I took a look for a few minutes for a replacement part, but it isn't part of the back cover, nor is it part of the actual camera assembly and I cannot seem to find it on its own.

When you take off the back plate and remove 7 Screws for the top half a camera lens assembly comes off heres the replacement

Refer to Youtube in the disassemble of nexus 5 and follow that but stop when they reach that part
Also the Back camera glass cover isn't gorilla glass or any sapphire glass like what Apple used its just a regular piece of glass (Source LG)
Yeah, I looked it up online, but it's a 30 dollar part. I was afraid of might be visible on pictures taken with the phone, but surprisingly it isn't.
I might just now buy a case, since I am getting pretty tired of the low durability of this phone. I never even dropped it but if I did I could imagine that it would just shatter into a thousand pieces

Fwiw, mine has the exact same crack!
Phone never dropped!
If you decide to fix it yourself and are successful, please take pictures along the way to help others with the issue and possibly make a guide. Or add to one if there is one already.

Get this
From my mobile telephony device.
Had the same problem, lens full crack
Went back to mediamarkt.
They charge €100 for repair
So went for some part on ebay.
I only bought the lens + case. Not the full frame.
Did the repair. No pics
But broke one clip of the back cover...
Then I found the lens case was constructed to the frame by some plastic rots that were melted. Had to mill those away. And used glue to replace the case.
It worked out wel. But next time I would go for the complete frame

[Q] Is the glass on this phone strong?

Hi, im thinking about buying this phone because my Nexus 5 battery is horrible, the Z3 looks so good and the specs are good, however, im seeing lots of people saying that the glass on back or front cracks by itself, can you guys please post if your glass has broke and how long you have owned the phone
I have the original z and Z ultra. Had drop the ZU three times and 7 times on the z.
The ZU has not cracked, but the Z back glass did after falling into concrete, the back glass replacement only cost less that around US30.

had my phone for 4 days, dropped a short distance and it smashed like it'd been hit with a hammer! I definitely wouldn't have bought one if I'd realised! Sony customer experience was AWFUL! They've had the phone longer to fix (by weeks!) than I've had use of it! Back to Iphone for me!
The glass cracking thing is pretty rare and mostly the back glass. I would not worry about that. Its like worrying about the LG G3 cracking near the mic or dust under the M8 front camera module, both of which are also extremely rare. If you dig deep enough you won't be able to buy any phone, including the iPhone 6, which has a high defect replacement/exchange rate at T-Mobile due to the sheer volume of sales of course.

I got the z3. My wife had the iPhone 6 for about 60 hours, dropped it once and the screen was completely shattered. Shards fell out. Every phone can break when you drop it once.
bump
I've dropped mine onto marble tiles from a metre about 4 times and nothing. The glass is fine. All the haters will say it's going to shatter from heat/cold or blowing on it, but it's nonsense.
This phone has a lot more to worry about than cracking. That's one thing I know will not happen.
Seems like the front and back glass are not from 1 manufacturer. Had my phone for a month and noticed several scratches at the back. I think i got this when i put the phone on the laboratory table which was made of ceramic tiles. I carelessly put it and drag it (short distance only) trusting that the glass is strong. The front is pretty strong.dropped the phone several times from my bed to the floor with it's face down and no scratches on the front

Yeah, within a week I've already gotten scratches on the back. The front is fine though.

People are saying that an omnipotent man sent his son to earth to save us from eternal pain
My front screen is fine. Back cracked on its own a few days after getting it. Got some deep scratchs on the back from sand on table at beach today and general scuff marks from everyday usage. Front is fine; no scratches or anything
Cracks don't seem to be too common though
Slipped off my bed and landed on a plate, back glass cracked from top to bottom, left to right. I only had it for a couple weeks.

Does anyone know how much it costs Sony to replace it? They won't say onnthe phone.
Yeah they won't until they see it just in case there is more than meets the eye. LG did the same to me when I dropped my G2 and screen shattered.
Back on topic, the back can be purchased for between $20-30 so at local repair shop it shouldn't cost more than $40-50 if you want some one to repair it for you.
If you want to do it yourself you will need a heat gun to loosen the glue and a suction cup or guitar pick etc to take out the back panel, also you would need to have glue to put the new one in. I forgot to mention, you have to detach the NFC pad from old panel and put it on the new one.
You better just give it to some one to repair it for $40-50 if you are not willing to do the above.

I am more than comfortable doing it myself. I did it on my Z. I have everything I need including guitar picks. Everything I find basically says that you can't guarantee a water tight case with aftermarket backs. Also if Sony does it, it's water proof again. I just don't know what to expect....$50......$100.....200. If it's a ton than I won't even bother sending it in to find out. I'm wondering if anyone has ever sent in a Z series for back glass?
If you search the forum, I recall someone had it done for $40-50 if I am not mistaken. It will definately will not cost $100, your pushing into display/digitizer assembly territory at that price.
I've had my phone slip off a couch and a tv dinner table onto hardwood floor and each time the phone has been fine. No dents or scratches that I noticed.
Planning to get a cheap back protector so it's not so slippery.
Glass is easy to crack. I accidentally drop my phone from 0.5m high facedown and right bottom corner front LCD was cracked called Sony Center and the price is $250 for the LCD and whole bezel thing. Pain in the A double S
Painful indeed, Corning is advertising their new GG4 as 2x better for impacts, in their ads they show gorillas dropping phones face down lol. I wish we had that.

Dust in Camera

Anyone else got dust in the camera? I have a spot of dirt or dust that is showing in photos. It's pretty much ruining them. The body isn't obviously sealed.
Yes, it seems like there is one model, which got assembled either in India or China, which had assembly problems. I'd just contact OnePlus and RMA it tbh.

NEX S falls 140km/h, ceramic coating and reconstruct clear back

Hey guys!
So, long story short, I started having some ideas on how to hard-proof your NEX S without using any cover/case. After implementing this ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/nex/accessories/ceramic-paint-coating-nex-s-t3901551 ) I started using my NEX S without any case or cover (only used it on the glass back).
2 weeks ago it slipped from my support in the moto at 140km/h and I thought I've lost it completely. After recovering it, it was working perfectly with only the metal rim around it heavily damaged and the glass back shattered (no problem with the cameras or the front screen). Again, no cover or case was in place at the time of the fall, so props to VIVO.
So I ordered another glass back from AliExpress for 10dolares ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32948791106.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.1a454c4dS17NTw ) and made the change.
P.S: I dipped the glass back in the ceramic paint again several times before applying if it worked the first time.... It already comes with double-sided tape to apply.
I've cut a little bit of the interior panel so now I can see the front camera mechanism going up and down (JerryRig everything on youtube).
Sorry for the poor image quality, but I couldn't use my phone to take those for obvious reasons
If anyone has any questions or different ideas for this still amazing phone please share, I don't plan on selling it anytime soon :good:
