Dust on ffc

Does anybody else have dust between the glass and their ffc? The image the camera produces doesn't appear to be affected but I can clearly see the dust and its only a matter of time before some is in the way of the lens.

Nope, there's no dust on my ffc. Maybe take it back for an exchange?

Nope. I use a TPU case. May have came that way from the factory. REPLACE!

Yes, after two months of use, mine has dust under the glass in front of the ffc. Haven't find a way to clean it.

Cleaned mine, don't think it's a case issue as the dust is probably coming in through the earpiece.
Ifixit has a good teardown: six screws in back, then 3 screws to remove the sim module. Don't bend the ffc back, that ribbon cable is weak and breaks easily. Clean with a screwdriver with the tip covered with a thick microfiber cloth.
Problem is that I've been repeating this once every two months. Today I took some yellow tack (for sticking posters to walls, just a tiny strip) and sealed the ffc. You can see the strip from the front, but hopefully I wont have to attempt the cleaning again! And I can't see any negative results in the camera app.
You may have more success with something like superglue, but I wanted something a little less permanent.

yes i am reviving this. how the hell do i get the dust out lol. ive even tried spraying a keyboard dust can into the damn earpiece.

There are replacements on Ebay but none come with instructions. Does anyone know how to take it apart and replace the screen?

Look it up on YouTube. I did it on my first EVO, and I must say, it was quite easy. It might be a little different for your device, but if you have even a little technical expertise, it shouldn't be a problem. WORD OF CAUTION, though. There is adhesive under the digitizer/top screen, so use a heat gun, or hair dryer, to loosen it first. It is like a box shape all the way around under the digitizer/top screen in a thin strip.

I haven't found any teardowns online, but it shouldn't be too hard as long as you have patience and be extremely careful. It looks like once the battery cover is off, there are 4 or 5 screws that you'll need to remove. Once that panel is off you should be halfway there. Just be careful because you're now in the belly of the beast. It would also help to take pictures along the way in case you need to know what goes where when re-assembling the phone.

might be a stupid question... but what happened to the gorilla glass?.. i.e. how high did you drop it from, etc.

Anything on this Earth can be shattered by different frequencies and impact. Gorilla Glass doesnt break if its from YOU pushing it in and stuff..Not from drops.

Try cnn.cn if they sell the part they'll have a guide.

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant and shatterproof; however it's still glass. Same principal as "Water Resistant" phones or items, you can't submerse them, but you can get them wet.

Slipped out of my hand while getting up off a chair, fell about 2 feet, landed flat on the glass side onto some tile. Heard a pop sound on impact. It shattered the bottom corner.
I've owned several HTC phones with gorilla glass and this is the first time something like this has happened. I think the fact it has a aluminum housing has something to do with it. Plastic housings can flex a little on impact. Aluminum doesn't flex as much and since glass can, it caused the screen to shatter since the energy had nowhere to go.
Definitely getting a Casemate or Otterbox (if they release it) once I get the digitizer replaced.
I've been looking all over for a tear down but no luck yet. I might just have to wing it and try doing it myself with one of the kits on Ebay. I really hate having to go in blind.

Can you not get it replaced on insurance? I feel for you buddy!

Unfortunately they do not have a video up yet but seen as they sell the part, and if you buy it from them, you may be able to request it from them. Worth a try.

i know it can break. its just supposed to be harder than normal. i just wanted to know if it was from a "normal" situation or something out of the ordinary.

I know this thread might be dead but the cracking of the screen happened to me too. I was wondering if anyone knew of a guide or could give me some tips on how to replace the digitizer since I will be attempting to do it myself.

Broken nexus 5 camera glass

First of all, I am on my phone so pardon my sloppy formatting.
I have broken the glass cover on my camera and would like to replace the part. I see the camera module is very cheap but I haven't found much regarding removing the class lens cover.
If anyone can help that would be great.

Ouch... well I haven't heard of anybody replacing it. I remember iFixIt had a very detailed taredown, maybe you could use that as a base.

I just did a tear-down to replace my broken screen. I'm not sure if they sell the lens glass separate or with the top back housing. But search for screen replacement videos on youtube and you will see it won't be too difficult to replace it. It took me about 20 minutes to transfer all the internals to a new chassis, the camera lens replacement should probably take 5 minutes.

I wouldn't recommend replacing just the glass. More than likely the small elements of the camera are not sealed, resulting in dust potentially getting in there and causing a whole new set of problems. If you were able to find the whole camera module, it would be easier, and safer to just replace that.

I intended to replace the entire module, I just didn't want to get my feet wet until I knew what I was getting into

The glass lens that protrudes from the phone is not part of the camera module. the glass lens comes attached to the top rear housing. If you want to replace the camera module, then you are talking a more complicated procedure. You will need to get under the main motherboard to remove the camera module. If all you need to do is replace the lens glass, then popping off the back cover and removing six screws is all you need to do.

Well after about two years with my nexus 5 I finally got careless and dropped it without it being in my spigen case Glass shattered. The lcd and digitizer still work fine. I ordered a replacement screen that comes with the digitizer fused to it already as I've read its too much work to literally just replace the glass. I've watched a bunch of videos and I'm a tinkerer by nature and it looks rather simple. Anyone here successfully replaced their nexus 5 screen?

I've done both screen and digitizer plus frame, which is literally just switching internals, and I've also don't just the glass, its far easier to replace the screen and digitizer together, make sure u use a hot blow dryer and remove the battery and mother board before applying heat, if u need any further pointers let me know

I recently put 2 nexus 5's together to make a working one. Just had to swap all the internals over from one with a cracked screen to another with a water damaged motherboard. The whole process was pretty simple just unscrewing and swapping things over really. Mind you I didnt have to replace the frame, which I would say is probably the most difficult part of a screen replacement. If you have already done ur research, just go slow and dont force things too much everything should be sweet.

It's virtually impossible to separate the front glass, digitizer and LCD without destroying them. I've come close but have never been successfully. It's not worth the trouble.y suggestion is to buy a new fre as well. It's a pain to dig all the broken glass off the frame. I'd much rather pay an additional 7 dollars and save the time and avoid picking shardsof glass out of my fingers. A reused frame is rarely like new anyway. There are often issues with seating of the LCD and problems with the adhesive. The nexus 4 was really bad in this regard. I have one, it works and I managed to get the proximity sensor to work, but I'd never do it that way again.
I replaced the screen on my nexus 5 with a LCD that came in the frame. It turned out to be a good choice as my frame was actually broken. It cracked right by the buttons on both sides. I have a second ont thats broken the same way, except the lcd works well enough to use so im waiti g until it dies completely to fix it. The front glass was actually on, but the LCD cracked. It seemed odd that the LCD cracked but not the glass until I had it apart. (I bekwice the digitizer on these is part of the LCD, as opposed to being laminated on the back of the glass)
The replacement went very smooth. I did it on my mother in laws kitchen table. You will need a credit card (to get the battery off) a hair dryer (for the battery) and a small screw driver. Don't use the ones they usually send with the screen, they are bad quality and will chew screws and or break leaving you without a screwdriver in the middle of the repair. Google the d820 service manual and read the disassembly section. Work carefully with plenty of light and be very careful with the tiny connectors. There are some parts that are stuck down, for instance the battery. Heat them with a hair dryer. It's best to hold it in your hand when you do this. If you can hold it, the heats OK, if its to hot to hold, its too hot. Usea credit card to pry up the battery if your changing frames. Heat both the front and back until you can slide the card under the battery.

Thanks the insight guys. Really appreciate it. Times like these make me happy I'm apart of the nexus community lol. Unfortunately I did not buy a new frame so I'll be picking out glass for a while! I just ordered the part yesterday and paid extra for faster processing and shipping. Reviewed a few more videos and manuals today and feel pretty confident. I was going to dish out 500 for the new 6p, but I just don't feel like I'm done with my N5 yet. So hopefully this replacement gives me another 4-6 months with my phone before I finally decide to upgrade.

I replaced a screen on an n4 and n5. Replacing just the digitizer was such a pain on the n4 that I decided to get the frame, lcd, and digitizer pre-assembled for the n5. For me, it's worth it to get everything pre-assembled.

I just got my screen, LCD and digitizer yesterday. I'll be performing the swap today. Wish me luck!

I just did the exact thing. eBay has the part it's easy to fix I did it. Just don't get the acrylic one. And ask before buying even if the picture looks like the OEM glass one make sure! Unless you want the acrylic one it's less prone to cracking but will scratch.

Simply being in my pocket. You'll see on the forums this is happening to a lot of people. The consensus is that LG phoned it in on the camera glass quality.

Yeh, I noticed all the glass problems, am I lucky or what, no problem for me with any problem mention in this forum about the glass built or any other stuff, and I had my G5 from day 1 after exchange it once, but I can remember the reason why I exchanged it.:fingers-crossed:
Just looking back at my camera len, I do have a deep scratch, but lucky I have a PET lens protector on, so it's only the protector that is scratched, at least I do have 3 spare one left.

Yeah I thought the same thing before I pulled the phone out of my pocket, nothing out of the ordinary had happened, and it was mysteriously broken. It's going to be like a recall if it gets really bad...

It doesn't take much pressure to brake it but it doesn't just do it on its own. This isn't the 6p being too tight around the glass and it breaking from expansion @kchannel9 just lift off what's left of your glass and peel it off no need to open the phone up. Just make sure no glass is left in it when you put the new one on. It should come with adhesive. And don't touch the lens! Cover it up if it breaks all the way it out or tape over it if it is just cracked to protect the camera! I might get the acrylic one to put over my glass replacement one now that I see how fragile it is.

It's simple to replace. Mine cracked and I ordered 2 off eBay. I had to replace it for a warranty exchange. Just use tweezers to get under the glass in the crack and peel it out. Insert the new adhesive sticker, then lay the new glass down. Takes about 5-10 minutes.

Just replaced mine, was easy. The acrylic one I got from eBay/China works fine, though there are visible lines in the acrylic, it did not seem to effect the pictures taken. If I find with more testing that it does, I will get the glass again instead, and also add a glass protector as well. But for now seems fine.

Ok nevermind, after taking some pictures in full sun it is apparent that the acrylic adds a ghostly fuzziness to the images where there once was impressively sharp clarity. Going to order the glass version and a tempered glass protector for that piece as well. Really annoying, you'd think a $700 flagship phone wouldn't have this issue.
