T-Mobile keeps reinstalling apps on my phone. - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

I've removed T-Mobile app selector, it's supposed to be used to install apps when after a factory reset or new phone setup. Over the last few weeks I've noticed it keeps getting reinstalled along with Facebook and T-Mobile Play.
When I look at the settings it shows that it was installed from com.tmobile.pr.adapt
Is anyone else on T-Mobile experiencing this?

Chrome was doing the same thing. I used a Package Disabler to put a stop to it. The com.tmobile.pr.adapt is another I always disable too.

Does the package disabler work if you're not rooted?

You don't need root or have to do any adb command. There are two Package Disabler Pro and CCWSE.

Something interesting came up. I bought Package Disabler pro and it seems to be working, at least in my app tray and under installed apps.
The strange thing is they keep coming back in the secure folder even when uninstalling them from the secure folder but they aren't in the app drawer or programs.

I personally don't use secure folder so not sure why they would keep coming back to it. Maybe enable the offending apps, clear the cache and data from secure folder, reboot and then disable the offending app and set up secure folder again.

I looked into data usage and com.tmobile.pr.adapt is using 163mbs of data each month.
I restricted data access to it, let's see if that stops it from reinstalling.

I always disable that one too. It's a T-Mobile diagnostic app the let's them know if you've rooted your phone. AFAIK not good for anything.

Is this referring to a T-Mobile version or an Unlocked on T-Mobile? I'm using an Unlocked on T-Mobile and don't seem to have this issue.

The reason it keeps installing in the secure folder is because that's an entirely different spot.. Think of it as a different phone basically.. On one phone you have all the apps you use and then on the second phone it's all of your secured folder apps this means you have to install and run the package disabler app in the secure folder too.. At least that's what I think however, I could be wrong here.

T-mobile branded. I would imagine unlocked wouldn't have the app pre-installed.

Did you use package disabler to do this? If not and if you were able to do this straight from the phone's settings can you describe the steps involved? Thanks!

No, to disable data usage you can go into programs select it and restrict data. That alone didn't seem to work for me and I'm using package disabler too.

[Q] No Task Manager?

Maybe i'm blind but can't find any type of HTC task manager on this device? Had it on stock ATT HTC One X+ device. I'm new to Verizon, switched specifically for this device and better deal with service so this is all new to me here.
Just seems odd zero task manager installed at all. Never had to use a third party, any recommendations? Thanks
I see in Settings, App manager, you can scroll right to Running apps and manually tap and stop. Anyway to have these apps NOT become active after a reboot? I'm spoiled and use to root and greenify and what not. Never use apps like Verizon Cloud, Verizon messages, NFL, etc.
Facebook app uses 48mb just for push services? Already have half the ram used up and only using mandatory apps running except Facebook, Messenger, GSam Battery Monitor, AppLock, Dropbox (all except Facebook and Messenger only use maybe 5-10mb each).
Closest I can find is by pressing the recent apps button and clicking the four square icon in the top right. That's typically the most we'll get w/o root apps

Go into settings, apps, all, click on some of the bloat ware and click disable. Removes it from the task manager for me. Also do you have this at the bottom of your apps list? I'm referring to the one with the foreign characters.

I just did that. Basically unchecked notifications and disabled all Verizon, Amazon apps. Going to reboot now and see if they still start up on their own and if there any issues disabling all these? New to this stuff.

True. I mainly like to hold off as long as I can until I have to root. As much as I like tinkering with Android stuff I always have that time period where I'm not willing to mess with my new$600 phone. After that period I just go flash happy.

Damn well disabling all Verizon bloatware and Amazon crap did something. I have gallery lock lite to hide personal pics/vids from the stock gallery app. I have the pics and vids saved on external sd card from previous device so these are not saved on internal.
Well now they are all visible again in stock gallery app like I never hid them. They also show inside the gallery lock app.
I had vaulty app before which worked great but on this device does not hide stuff. Not sure if it's a kit Kat 4.4.2 thing or what? Seems odd after reboot they are all visible again in gallery app though. Damnit. More reason to root! Can't even have private photos on my sd card, WTH?

i have three installed apps not from the play store (i had them before) but this didnt happen, i already confirmed that everytime the network signal goes and comes back again this happens.... i dont know how to remove it, probably has to do with the 4.4.3 update :/

Never heard of anything like this and it's most likely something else causing it (i.e. not 4.4.3, maybe a rogue app).

You could start with anti viruses and alike... or see what processes are running through adb / shell when the message shows up.
Connect the android to your computer running a live logcat and see what happens when that creepy smile shows up.
It's weird, never saw anything like that before, seems like from one moment to another will jump our of the screen and start hacking and slashing :b
Lol it's a 3rd party app. That you can be 100% sure of. If you were to boot your phone into safe mode it would stop happening.

Strange indeed. Could it be a network message of some sort? Though I haven't heard of it before, it's possible that it is a network connection acknowledgment of some sort.
here are my findings..
current network: TELCEL (mexico)
smiley appearing after loosing and regaining signal (doesnt matter if it has data enabled or not)
apparently theres a sim toolkit in every sim from TELCEL, i thought that it might be the main issue (toolkit is some services the network provider has )
current solution: changed runtime from dalvik to ART, has been almost 24 hrs without that smiley... just fyi

OK Google detection

Just factory reset my phone to fix an issue with encryption and for some reason I have no option for OK Google detection from any screen. Option just isn't there. I've disabled a voice but no luck.
Anyone else seeing this?

Didn't work, option is still missing.
Quick research on the play store shows several people with S6/Edge phones complaining about hotword detection option missing.
And I just checked mine, its missing for me too.
So strange.... had it visible and working on both my new phones this morning, and now GONE - nothing but the one option to launch it from the Google Now screen, all other options done disappeared - wtf mate

Do you guys have the correct language set?
I do. My voice features disappeared as well
Have the same issue. 'Anywhere' hot word detection disappeared yesterday. I also think it must have been the update I ran. Uninstalling the Google now update had no effect though. Also tried setting the language to English US, no effect. Next thing I was going to try was factory reset, but sounds like this don't work either?
Installed Google launcher for the time being. Atleast I can use 'okay Google' from all my home screens until this is resolved.

Same thing happened with the Moto X.
There is a config flag that lists the 'blacklist' phone models. There used to be an app to force the Google app into debug/dogfood mode so that you could change it - but I haven't seen any way to do that w/ the newest versions. My guess is that Samsung chose to disable listen everywhere to try to force people into using s-voice.

Secret menus - through Dial Codes?

There used to be secret dial codes that would bring up many useful utility menus on Android phones. What are they for the Verizon Note 5 ?
If you download "phone info samsung" from the playstore it shows a list of secret codes in the menu. I never tried any out to see if they work. Also if you are in the vicinity of a Verizon store you can dial #8378 and it will pull up a menu with a battery of diagnostic tests.

Yes we discussed that you needed to have root and I don't and was wondering how to get them without root
It is annoying when people with other phone variants post on the Verizon boards, because miscommunication like this happens.
As the Verizon variant isn't rootable, posting solutions that require root isn't going to help anyone here.
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Right? Super annoying. Anyway. OP, download "phone info" from the play store then open the menu and select secret codes. It will then crawl your phone for available codes. You don't have to have root in order to just view the list of codes, after it searches the list of codes will be displayed.
On a side note, there is a setting in the phone (hidden_menu) that basically either allows or denies access to service modes and settings from dialer codes and Verizon sets it to deny.
If we had root for the N920V we could use a file manager with root access and easily change the hidden_menu setting, after which all dialer codes and access to service modes would work again.

Really.....when this happen. I know when the S9 + was release, we couldnt activate. It wasnt working but PD from police was working so i used that instead until the developer updated his BK app and then it was working fine. I get weekly app updates from BK and still working. Im afraid now to do a factory reset if i have to lol. This app is a life saver.
hi, i formatted my S9+ just when BK Manager and MDM Extension apks were removed from Play Store.
my question is, i have both of these apks files in my storage, will i be able to install them manually and whether the disabler app will still work as it was before? can someone kindly advise?
i have emailed the developer a couple of times asking the same questions, but not getting any response or help and was never my intent to ask for a refund.
File 1. com-kunkunsoft-packagedisabler1515128400
File 2. MDM_Extension_2_Full
as for the time being, is there any other good disabler app that we can use safely? i feel so lost without this app/feature.
thank you.

It's dead as the mdm manager & extension r removed possibly as per Samsung's request.
Im tired of Samsung's forced bloats and the consequences.
SABS still works great. Just Google notsabs and you will find the instructions on how to install it.
Adhell used to tell you which were safe to remove and which were critical system ones it doesn't look like sab's does this is there a way that I'm not seeing to know what is safe to disable

After using this apk on galaxy s9, disabled many system apks with some S8 script, my fingerprint start to have issues and finally stop working at all. Probably should flash stock firmware because factory reset do not solve fp issues. Think i disabled some system apk which is in colaboration with fp sensor and now its use is broken. Leaved it in samsung service because of warranty, device is 2 weeks in use just. Perhaps i should know flash same stock firmware with odin again but dont want to mess until i am sure it is not hardware fail.
In service menu sensor give me error.

I could never get SABS to work so I have nothing to compare it to but it's pretty simple not idiot proof or anything but easy enough I never used anything besides adaway and package disabler before and figured this out in a few mins its has the best of both in one app

I got Adhell3 installed using instructions on Reddit. It was time consuming because I hit a few snafus in Android studio. I havent disabled anything yet though, lol.
