How is tha gonna stop accidental fingerprint detection and vibration??

The solution is to deactivate the fingerprint sensor ?
More seriously, there is no false detection, the sensor is doing its job, as soon as it feels a finger it tries to visualize the fingerprint, I do not see what is boring, If it wasn't so sharp it would be a nightmare to unlock the device !

No, you're wrong. It could be set to only vibrate when it detects a correct fingerprint. Which would be much more logical in my opinion. Or give the option to only activate the fingerprint sensor after power button is pressed.

the vibration is not there to validate the unlocking, something that we see anyway when the home screen opens, but to say that the analysis of the finger starts and that we are at the right place..
The last option might be fine for you, but personally it's a waste of time having to press a key before I can scan my finger, not sure Poco implements this In a future update ! ?

These options should be there for those who want them, they're easy to implement. Options are good I too find it annoying reaching into my pocket and having the phone light up and vibrate unintentionally.

Yeah noticed that also here where it rarely happend with my k20. It's just the new fingerprint placement.

Yes indeed having more options is positive, I'm just saying that I don't think they will, as it's a pretty special option that very few require.
Normally if you are looking for the device in the pocket, it should not turn on or vibrate because it is deactivated by the proximity sensor, in any case mine remains as dead if I hide the part upper screen..
I hope for you that a function will emerge

For me, it is clear that the "old" hardware fingerprint sensor is much better than the modern software sensor that's imposed on new devices.
But we cannot change this, so yes : some options for lock screen vibration activation-deactivation are welcome. Me too don't like to feel the phone vibration every time I touch accidentally the screen trying to extract something of my pocket, including the phone.

You can disable 'haptic feedback' in the settings, it will disable the fingerprint sensor's vibration too.

[Q] How to turn off proximity sensor during call ?

it's so annoying that everytime when i talk on the phone for a long period, the screen turns on automatically cuz of the sensor, even tho i pressed the power button to turn it off, it will flash on again if my face isn't close enough to the sensor, so most of the time my face would touch the screen and do some stupid things like hanging up the call, changing the setting or sending a random text to someone etc.
The proximity sensor is useful in some ways, but is there any way that I can disable it during calls ?

Yeah, seems like Sony has removed that feature on XZs and XZ Premium
I hope they add it back. I wonder if it's something to do with the 4k screen? Does anyone know if it's on the z5 premium?

Hello dvdman2k,
Yes the double tap to wake is on the Z5P; however I found it something of a mixed blessing as was inclined to wake from unintentional screen touches while in a pocket (in the Style Cover SCR46 with the active window). Having just migrated to the XZP I'd noticed the feature's absence, but almost with some relief !
Regards,
Kevin
PS. Having now used the device for a week or so, I've changed my opinion. There are some occasions when the Double Tap function would be very good to have. Others when I'd prefer it turned off (eg. to prevent inadvertent activation while in a jacket pocket). So my conclusion is that I'd like to see the functionality re-instated in the ROM , but with a user-controlled toggle in Settings so that it is flexible to suit requirements.

Hi kevinpwhite
Coming from Moto Z I liked the feature where you could wave hand over the display and it would wake up & the finger. Print reader is on the front of the phone.
Sometimes I want to wake the screen without pressing the power Button.
Thanks

I have double tap to lock using Nova Prime as my launcher. I don't use double tap to wake even when available because too often the screen starts up when the phone is in your pocket. However, I do wish that the fingerprint reader would unlock the phone WITHOUT having to actually press the button in just like most fingerprint readers work. Maybe they could make it work this way? In fact I am sure they could because when you are setting up your various fingers for access you do not have to push the button in. In fact if you accidentally do push it in while registering your prints it will close the screen and you have to start all over. SO I believe they could make it live/active just like any other fingerprint reader. How do we actually get these requests to Sony directly? I also wish they would unlink the ringtone volume from the notification volume.
Things might change in the next update.

This is a mandatory feature for me. I won't buy a phone without it. In fact, I pretty much need to have lift-to-wake and/or some kind of always-on-display. Pushing a power button to turn on your phone is so 2015.

Per my earlier comments, I was initially slightly relieved after the Z5P's tendency to turn on when not wanted; however, have now revised my opinion and think it would be very useful - but needs a user-selectable toggle to suit circumstances. This approach has been mooted to the Developers on the Sony Forum (they've acknowledged) and there is quite a strong voice of similar views from other users. The more strength of feeling, the more likely the feature will be re-instated in a F/W update.... :fingers-crossed:
Best regards,
Kevin
if it really bothers you, you can just buy a roxfit urban slim case for it like i have. After using a xiaomi mi5 with tap to wake , its hard going back to the old ways lol, plus less pressing on physical buttons, the longer the hardware lasts!
please bring back
Try this to wake: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup&hl=en
Install Nova Prime for double tap to lock.
Works great. There are other apps that do similar things in the play store. YMMV
You can always buy the official case that has a screen unlock feature. Because of it I no longer see the need of double tap to wake but it would be handy to have. I am annoyed this feature is excluded though.
Any suggestion for a simple app to do the double tap wake/lock?
Ive been using https://kernel.andro.plus/yoshino.html for DTW
Of course you need a Unlocked Bootloader
Now I'm using WaveUp, it's not like the double tap but works well for both locking and unlocking. And it has a "pocket mode" for unlock the display when you take it out from your pocket, very useful.

Double tap wake up - lag

Hello All.
Anybody else have the same issue like me?
I have around 4 seconds lag during wake-up phone with double-tap. But only when phone goes to sleep with camera application opened in front.
This is strange.
If camera app is opened in front and phone goes to sleep - long wake-up with double-tap.
With power button wake-up -> phone wake-up immediately.
If phone goes to sleep with any other application opened in front (home screen, any other app) -> double-tap wake up phone immediately.
I have this issue on few last nougat versions. Today I applied Oreo update and still the same issue.
In safe-mode still the same. I have opened service ticket to HTC but I would like to know if anybody else see the same issue?

Now that I have watched the video,, mine acts the same.
That's a "normal" behavior, on android when the screen brightness needs to change this lag always appear. I develop an app to turn screen off by changing the brightness and timeout times, and happens this same lag in a various devices seems to be an android issue.
So what I did to "hde" the lag was to add a screen with some info like day, date and time.
But on your case there is no solution yet.
Strange. So, why waking up phone with fingerprint scanner or power button wakes it very quick?
Why this "issue" can be seen only when camera app is on top? [if other app is on top phone wake up every time very quick]?
This looks for me like issue in HTC software. Not "standard android behaviour"

Because camera change the screen brightness, the problem is in changing screen brightness and not the action that you are performing.
ok, this explains question 2. But what about question 1 : "why waking up phone with fingerprint scanner or power button wakes it very quick?" ???

That one I don't know for sure, but I think that can be due to the way the it turn the device.
Double tap is controlled by "lockscreen app/kernel", the power button and fingerprint it android native code and kernel, can be that but just htc knows!
Did you tried to ask then about that in twitter or via support emaill?
I just made additional test: manual brightness, full level. The same phone behaviour.
In my opinion this is something in kernel / wake-up procedure. I raised support ticket to HTC.

Pocket unlock

Had anyone experienced their device being unlocked while in their pocket. Mine had several times, even some quick toggles have been changed from where I had them set. Apps opened, not just opened but digging into multiple button presses. Even today mi wife says I called her twice while phone in pocket. I use fingerprint security with pin backup and somehow phone is bypassing both of theses in my pocket. I've tried numerous times to replicate out of my pocket with no avail. I'm on stock TMobile no mods or rooted.

Weird. Do you have fingerprint lock enabled?
Yes I do. From what I can find on the web previous OnePlus devices had a Pocket Mode which is not present on the 7 pro. But viewing T-Mobiles website under settings list it shows it is in the utilities section under settings. But not on my phone. I even searched for it with the search option at the top of settings menu.
I've also noticed that in settings under utilities there is a section called app locker, when I click on it, it asks for pin and then just resorts back to the utilities menu giving me no option to add apps to list. It does nothing.

What Pocket Mode did (I had it on my 3T) was ignore screen touches, if the proximity sensor sensed an object nearby (assuming it was your pocket).
Even without Pocket Mode, a press on the screen, or movement of the gyro should only turn on the "ambient display" screen. You can't do anything from that screen except scan your fingerprint (which you confirmed you have fingerprint security enabled). So I'm puzzled how the butt dials or other things occurred in your pocket.
I suppose it's possible the power button is being accidentally pressed in your pants. Which brings up the lock screen - slightly different from the ambient display screen, as it gives access to the quick toggles, camera and voice assist. But it would seem like a strange combination of accidental power button pressing and screen touches happening in your pants, to make the things you mentioned happen. TWSS

[No root] Finally, an app to enable native Lift To Wake (lockscreen)

TL, DR. Where is the download?
github.com/xubowenhaoren/OPLiftToWake/releases
What does it do?
This is a simple app to enable Lift To Wake for OnePlus 7 series.
It is not the Lift To "Ambient Display" in the stock Settings App; it enables the true Lift To "Lock Screen" like other phones.
Why do I want this feature?
You've probably already known that OnePlus, in Android 10, reveals the notification content on the lock screen after Face Unlock.
But to see those notifications, you either need to:
1. Pick up the phone and unlock with your finger at the Ambient Display. A two-step process.
2. Pick up the phone and press the power button. Again, a two-step process.
Now with the app, you can pick up the phone and the lock screen immediately shows up.
How does it do this?
It listens to the native system sensor (`oneplus.sensor.pickup`). In my testing, it is very power efficient.
What phones does it support?
I have tested this on a OnePlus 7T with Android 10. It should also work with other OnePlus 7 series.
Note that for earlier OnePlus phones, there is also a [pickup sensor] but with a different name.
If you want this app to work with earlier OnePlus phones, you should try replacing this line in `Utils.java` with the correct sensor name:
```
mSensor = Utils.getSensor(context, mSensorManager, "oneplus.sensor.pickup");
```
How do I use it?
You probably want to turn off the Ambient Display first.
After installing the app, turn on the "Lift To Wake" toggle.
You should also consider turning off the battery optimization of the app for a more consistent background performance.
Do I need Magisk for this?
No, it is root-free.
Credits
Much of the code is from the Lineage OS team.
Other code references can be found in the code comments.
Love this feature thank you!
Works like a charm ? thanks.
Awesome! will give it try, hope there is no battery drain.
Great to see! Cheers
It is still a 2 step procedure when i use face unlock along with fingerprint.
It should be a command that when I pick up the phone -> auto open lockscreen -> auto trigger face unlock.
When i want to use fingerprint, just tap to wake ambient display and unlock with fingerprint.
I really dont want to sacrifice FOD to use only face unlock.

You dont get my point, bro. When you use both FOD and face unlock, this app just show the lockscreen when pick up. Then u have to choose putting your finger on FOD or pressing the face icon button on top of the clock to unlock.
My desire is that the app will trigger the face unlock automatically in that situation.
