A shortcut or widget that could connect to a specific bluetooth device when pressed
A rom/kernel/program that allows you to lower the brightness beyond what is normally considered" low" on the captivate....this thing is a nightmare at night

I looked for something like that once before, and came up empty handed.
I haven't specifically tried this yet with the program Tasker, but I believe it would be capable of creating what you're after. I'll give it a shot a little later, and let you know if it works. (Tasker isn't free, I'd hate to have you pay for it if I'm not sure about it working.)

quick settings lowers the brightness lower then what is possible through the OS.
Market -> search for "quick settings" - it has nice shortcut in the notification bar, but you can turn off the icon so it is only visible when you pull the shade down.

Or set it as the default function of a long press on the search capacitive button on the bottom. That's what I did, and it works great!
Hopefully Essential takes some user feedback as far as features we would like to see going forward. If you post please try to keep it to reasonable features that mostly stock devices have or non os software tweaks.
The two big ones for me are
1. Night mode
2. Fingerprint shortcuts, primarily for notifications

+1
Damn just checked and realized no night mode since got the phone just today.
+1 on night mode, that thing is must have at system level. Don't want to go back to using apps like twilight etc
My needs are simple. Would like the option to rearrange navigation buttons, battery percentage, and finger print gestures.

Has anyone tried enabling night mode by enabling the UI tuner?. night mode is built into nougat but on some phones still has to be turned on. I don't have the phone yet to do it. Pull down the notification shade twice and then long press the settings cog icon. A wrench will show up next to the icon indicating that UI tuner has been enabled. Next install "night mode enabler" from the play store.
Unlocked bootloader, TWRP and root. Hopefully. ? - Not sure any devs are on board with this device.
I haven't received the phone yet, but does it support gestures while the screen is off? Such as double tap to wake, swipe up to unlock, etc.
Night mode is nice. I also like to separate ring volume from notification volume. I know that's not native to Android, but a simple mod makes all the difference for me.

Night mode for sure. Second would be system level to force apps to use the full screen, like what Samsung has for the s8+

Yep.
I'm waiting for TWRP.
For root, I plan to use Magisk to root and hide BL status. Since it's mostly ASOP, it should work like the Nexus 6P I have.
First off +1 to both, I really don't want to use the app that allows finger gestures, was a little sad to see it not available in stock Android since I got used to using it on the Pixel XL.

Just tried it and it isn't there sadly. Just like the fingerprint gestures I don't want to have to add it through an app.
On the flip side I got exactly what I deserved/wanted. Nothing but pure Android (minus the Essential Cam app and the Essential option in the settings) so that was good but in a way I want to kick myself because I forgot that these two features were add ons to the skin for the Pixel devices. Whatever the case maybe, I'll get over it lol.

Hopefully those features, switching navigation buttons and more will come to the table once we get the bootloader unlocked and the possibility of custom ROM's/mods. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Use this to change nav bar.
For battery percentage just enable the UI tuner
1. Changing audio track with volume buttons when screen is off.
2. Resizing nav bar height
3. Double tap to wake
I second the fingerprint gestures and double tap to wake wholeheartedly.
Would also love to see these:
1. Ability to use Light Flow or another LED manager to customize notification LEDs. This is my favorite thing about Android phones and Essential's stock LED patterns aren't cutting it for me. Somehow they managed to make it impossible for the LED to flash more than once every 5 seconds.
2. Ability to use 360 camera attachment as a fisheye lens. Currently the camera stitches two 210 images together to form a 360 photo. I want to be able to choose just one lens to capture an image.

The battery percentage option is in the system ui tuner I believe. Pull down the notification shade and long press on the settings icon then go into settings and look for it.
ability to change navbar height. it's too big uses unnecessary screen estate
There are several Improvements I would like to see in the phones software. More so just general optimization. However I think that most of these answers of what features are coming will be answered in Thursday's Q&A session with Andy Rubin on Reddit. So I guess we should wait until then to see where Essential and the ph1 is headed.
Original Thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/themes/app-amoled-notification-light-t3943715
So I was annoyed not having an LED notification light on oneplus 6t so I tried to make one of my own.
As OP6T has amoled display whenever a desired notification comes the app brings in a black screen with notification LED looking animation.
Though this is tested on OP6T, it should be working for most Android Oreo and later phones.
To use it:
Install App.
Disable Ambient Display and any battery optimisation for the app.
Give notification access permission.
Select apps you want notifications for, by choosing a color (Only apps you set a color to enables LEDs).
Note: 1. On successfully selecting a color for an app the text in which the App name is written should change to that color
2. Don't enable the LED for the "Phone App" as it will interfere when an incoming call is coming! Will fix this in next build
Thats it.
Note: To turn off the LED and to unlock phone double tap anywhere on the screen.
Also on pressing power button once the LED stops and on pressing it again it will bring you to lock screen.
App now available on Play Store, please rate and share if you liked the app.
Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xander.android.notifybuddy
Working Video: https://youtu.be/vFKiHS_ZD-k
If the app is not working check whether the Notification Service is running under Developer Option > Running Services, this service is required for the app to work as intended.
If it is not running after various troubleshoot measures, maybe send the logs.
Changelog:
Implemented burn in protection
Fixed proximity sensor bug
Switch enables LED with default color
Added search functionality
Now App list is sorted in alphabetical order
Fixed power button
Added settings for changing time interval and stop timer
Major bug fixes
Added System Apps
Added a switch to turn on/off notification LED
Give your feedback!!
It would be cooller if it would use the edge lighting.
Great app, love the simplicity.
Is there any way to show the notification first (like stock configuration) and then show the flashing "LED" after a few seconds?
Nice app. Been using since release when I saw it on the OnePlus 6t forum. Only issue is when you dismiss the notification (double tap) , screen goes into full brightness first before dimming down. At night, it's hard on the eyes. Hope you can fix it (add auto brightness support so it follows the screens brightness after unlock). Cheers mate and keep up the good work.
Good to see your thread here for OnePlus 7 Pro! Cheers
working thx ?
cut u get it to work wiht eged light??
Nice! It working good!
"Is there any way to show the notification first (like stock configuration) and then show the flashing "LED" after a few seconds?"..also my question..
Sometimes the LED flashes even if there is no notification
This is AWESOME!!! Could you make it so that
1: It doesn't flash the white bar across the bottom first
2: not go full brightness?
Thanks
This is an awesome app. Would be amazing if you can use it with the edge lighting.
Brilliant, thank you. Gome through countless apks trying to get a notification led. Thanks
Oh, one more thing, would it be possible to add an on/off switch so you can easily turn it off if you don't want to use it?

Nice idea and nice app but would it be possible to get it to work together with ambient display enabled?

thats exactly what the app does. it lights up the edges of your phone for a notification and you can customize each color per app, etc.

i'm talking about the app ALWAYS ON EDGE in the play store, which is the app i recommended because the poster i quoted asked for that function. so yes, the app always on edge in the play store will do what you want as well. it has a ton of options in the settings.
i also used this one notifybuddy
but went back to picel pulse untill this one support missed call's
pixel pulse works with orginal notification system
I would like to keep my Fold 2 open on a wireless charging stand at night in Google Assistant Ambient Mode instead of using a Nest Hub. I can't find the Ambient mode option in the Google Home app, is this missing on the Fold 2?
Anyone managed to do this?
Is there a way to enable immersive mode on the Pixel 7 pro? Is there any root or Xposed option to do so? I want to enable immersive mode on a per app basis through tasker. This functionality seems to have been lost in Android 13.
I use the Xposed module "None Display Cutout". After installing it, go to Settings > Developer Options > Display Cutout and set it to "No Display Cutout".
Then I use XposedEdgePro to creat shortcuts to turn it off and on. You can trigger it by gesture, quicksettings or activity shortcut.
I'm not sure what the best way is to set it on a per-app basis.

I don't understand the utility in Xposed edge pro. Doesn't it make an annoying half moon circle with different buttons pop out? Each having its own customized function? You're making it execute a small script that is to go into settings tho and activate immersive mode after installing the display cutout option. Is that correct?

Well, the None Display Cutout module doesn't actually give you immersive mode by itself. It basically just makes your phone ignore the hole-punch camera. Without it, you will have a black section of unused space above the app and camera if you go into immersive mode. So, it just let's you use the full screen.
I just use Xposed Edge Pro, because it offers a working way to go into immersive mode, but you don't actually need to open it after setting it up. You don't need the pie/halfmooon menu. It has an activity that can be called. I have a different custom menu that I set up with another app that calls the XposedEdge Pro shortcut to put the phone into immersive mode. Xposed Edge also lets you add quick settings buttons to hide the status or nav bars.
You could also just set up gestures through Xposed Edge to trigger immersive mode

Sorry, it is a Magisk module, not an Xposed module.
I use the gesture navigation, but I don't use the XposeEdge gestures. I was just saying that there are different ways of triggering it. There might be some other apps that still, work, but the other old apps that put the device in immersive mode just didn't seem to work anymore. So, Xposed Edge was the only way I could get it working. If all you care about is getting rid of of the gesture pill at the bottom, and don't want to hide the status bar, there is a mod you can use with Substratum Lite.
You mentioned using Tasker. Well, I just looked in Tasker and it does give you the option to call an App Shortcut from Xposed Edge Pro. I sort of got per-app immersive working with Tasker.
To test it try this:
1. Press the + button to add new profile and select "Application"
2. Select all apps that you want to be in immersive mode
3. For you task, select App > Shortcut > Xposed Edge Pro > Hide Status Bar > Turn On.
4. Do the same thing as above, but select Hide Navigation Bar.
At this point it should trigger it when you open one of those apps that you specified. The main issue is that it persists if you go to any other app. So then you might need to create an inverse version of the profile and tasks above, to turn it off for every other app, including your launcher. There is about a quarter second delay for the immersive to turn on when you switch to a new app, though.

It works on A13. I've been using it since day one on Pixel 7 Pro. Immersive mode, custom dpi and font size work. Only few apps are incompatible (Google Photos, Files, Recorder).
Screenshots:
1. Chrome with immersive mode enabled.
2. ES File Explorer with immersive mode and custom dpi.
I flashed a zip that makes my status bar 1px so the notification pull-down gesture still works but the screen is basically stretched to the top of the phone. Works perfectly
