Do either or these exist? - Captivate General

A shortcut or widget that could connect to a specific bluetooth device when pressed
A rom/kernel/program that allows you to lower the brightness beyond what is normally considered" low" on the captivate....this thing is a nightmare at night

I looked for something like that once before, and came up empty handed.
I haven't specifically tried this yet with the program Tasker, but I believe it would be capable of creating what you're after. I'll give it a shot a little later, and let you know if it works. (Tasker isn't free, I'd hate to have you pay for it if I'm not sure about it working.)

quick settings lowers the brightness lower then what is possible through the OS.
Market -> search for "quick settings" - it has nice shortcut in the notification bar, but you can turn off the icon so it is only visible when you pull the shade down.

Or set it as the default function of a long press on the search capacitive button on the bottom. That's what I did, and it works great!

[Q] Hidden tricks

OK so while playing with my cell I found out that if you hold down where the status bar pops up and slide your finger left or right it adjust the brightness level, just like sliding the bar in the settings menu.
So is this just in the Infinity ROM or a stock feature?
Has this been talked about before?
Is there any other little secrets like this?
Just wondering, lol. Yes its a boring Sunday.

Stock feature. Only works if auto-brightness is turned off.

Thanks for the info. I think I found out about it once before but forgot about it.
Stock feature. A couple more things:
1. back + home = screenshot
2. On the initial setup of the phone, where it says Welcome to Android with the Droid man (ie when you first install Infinity) you can fully bypass the setup by pressing all four corners counterclockwise, starting at the top right.

Gps toggle?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but where is the gps settings/toggle? For the life of me I can't find it. I just wanted to turn off the gps, to see if my battery life would get any better.

Settings->location->mode.
I choose battery saver unless I'm navigating.

go to your quick settings (notification center, icon to the right (where wifi, settings and battery are located) and there you see a location icon. pres it once to go to the location settings, long press for activate/deactivate. (it sure as hell switches location and therefore gps off, but if you are connected to wifi it gets the location from there)

THANK YOU, Daniel! I had wondering the same thing ...

no gps toggle in nexus 5 ((
Hello guys,
Wow, this is a bit of a pain.
In the past you could still have some location accessing when your gps was off, and one quick tap in notifications would toggle it. Now it seems you have to go to a menu. The notification toggle widgets Ive tried do not toggle the "Location Mode", which is what I would like... the way it used to turn GPS off was to change location mode from High Accuracy to Battery Saving.
Odd how on occasion features like this are changed for the worse... almost like some engineer thought it a good idea, but isnt someone whe wants to goggle gps quickly and easily, like when driving!!

If you are rooted you can use gravity box to add the old gps icon in the quick settings panel.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I am rooted, and I do have a notification widget which has the old icon, but it either does nothing, or takes me to the setting where I still have to choose which mode of location detecting i want to use...
What is gravity box, it seems to be a game

Solution found!
Hello guys,
Ok, so if you are rooted:
1/ Install Notification Toggle (and customise it to have the toggles you want, including GPS)
2/ install /system/app mover
3/ run system app mover and choose to convert Notification Toggle to a system app.
you reboot your phone and now you can toggle the gps between High Accuracy and Battery Saving... EXACTLY as it was in the past.
Whew.
Mark.

Gravity box is a module that works with the xposed framework.

On a rooted phone power toggles will give you a direct gps toggle without any faffing about, other than granting it root access.
If you are not rooted you can use the stock android "power control" widget. It changes the mode from high accuracy to battery saving with one click. I'm waiting for power toggles to update!

Notification shade works while screen locked

Others may know this, but it was a surprise to me.
With the screen locked, you can still swipe down on notification bar and access the quick settings tiles and the screen brightness slider. Some of the tiles are locked out, but you can switch between sound, vibration or muted, and turn on or off the following WiFi calling, Do not disturb, flashlight, Always on display, Airplane mode, Power saving (but not Ultra), and Auto rotate.
Tapping on any of the other tiles will bring up the pin/password entry screen. Tapping the settings icon or Quick connect also brings up the pin/password keypad.
The fact that you can toggle airplane mode on is troubling. That means someone who finds your phone, and knows, can prevent you from locating / wiping the phone with Android device manager.
Correct, that's a HUGE security issue. Removed airplane mode from my choices.

But im sure you can still get into it by clicking the edit button. To remedy this i use screen lock protector from the play store also cerberus has option to lock power off and notification drop down.

Unfortunately, though, I discovered you can tap the down arrow to open the full quick settings panel, and use airplane mode from there. No way to prevent it at the moment.
Or they can just turn it off?

Yep. That's crazy they would allow that. Someone needs to bring it to Samsung's attention!

flashlight?

Hmm I've heard the flashlight will now let you set intensity but I can find a setting to turn on the flashlight without using a third party widget.
Very easy. Open your Quick Settings at the top...hit the word "Flashlight"...not the icon but the word. It will bring up the options to change it.
How is the maximum brightness level vs the old toggle?

Thanks just got back to this. It seems I had the button layout set at 4x3 and it wasn't showing it to me and when I clicked edit I still wasn't seeing it as an option to add. When I changed the layout to 5x3 I got it back.
Can anyone comment on the flashlight brightness levels achieved by the update? I ask because I'm rooted on MM, which allows me to use a root flashlight app (see below) that is insanely bright. I use this on a daily basis and (unless the new built-in toggle can match it) losing this will keep me from upgrading to Nougat. It's that useful to me. Losing my preferred version of Google Maps is another big issue, but the phone torch allows me to not have to carry a separate flashlight at work and makes my life simpler.

Question WTF is this little stick figure icon on the left/notification side of my status bar? UPDATE, screenshots and found out what it is

Every now and then I'll see a stick figure icon on the left side of my status bar by the clock and on the lock screen/aod in a bubble.
when I unlock the phone or pull down the notification panel any info disappears.
Anyone know what this little guy is for and how to get rid of him?
and the screenshot is.................? kinda hard to help if we don't see what it is..
The only icon I can think of that resembles a stick figure is the SMART THINGS icon.

It;s a stick figure, like the stick figure that was coming up on peoples nav bar on 8's and 9's for accessibility settings
it looks JUST LIKE THIS ONE IN THE PINK CIRCLE without the dots under it but its a icon by the clock
When you need a hug. Push this. That makes you more accessible.
here are screeenshots, I got it in action.
It has something to do with one of the apps I enabled in accessibility mode.
Anyway to stop the "check access settings" little guy notification from coming up

If you tap on the icon and bring up that app's notification settings, there may be an option to never notify for accessibility notifications.

Thanks, no clue then. It must be one of the apps, maybe the Galaxy HZ app having access to screen as it shows the stick figure in the notification as well. Check the app in Accessibility settings and try disabling it.
Also, what is the other app with moon and glowing clock? (screenshot attached)..looks cool

Weather neon, TONS of customizations for it, from dozens of widgets of all sizes down to changing colors of every piece individually.
that's just the notification one I liked but there are a ton more, and a big main one with different clocks
it's worth checking out, some stuff is iffy with it tho

My stickfig has a purpose, I can dim the screen at night or brighten it up. The icon comes up when you slide out the 'stick'. You can park this feature anywhere, to enable go to 'visibility enhancements' >>'extra dim'(screenshot is from S22)
So I'm guessing you can disable your stick figure somewhere there as well.
