Question No immersive mode? - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Is there a way to enable immersive mode on the Pixel 7 pro? Is there any root or Xposed option to do so? I want to enable immersive mode on a per app basis through tasker. This functionality seems to have been lost in Android 13.

I use the Xposed module "None Display Cutout". After installing it, go to Settings > Developer Options > Display Cutout and set it to "No Display Cutout".
Then I use XposedEdgePro to creat shortcuts to turn it off and on. You can trigger it by gesture, quicksettings or activity shortcut.
I'm not sure what the best way is to set it on a per-app basis.

Thanks. In the app settings reborn thread here on XDA they're saying it's not compatible with A13 tho.

I don't understand the utility in Xposed edge pro. Doesn't it make an annoying half moon circle with different buttons pop out? Each having its own customized function? You're making it execute a small script that is to go into settings tho and activate immersive mode after installing the display cutout option. Is that correct?

Well, the None Display Cutout module doesn't actually give you immersive mode by itself. It basically just makes your phone ignore the hole-punch camera. Without it, you will have a black section of unused space above the app and camera if you go into immersive mode. So, it just let's you use the full screen.
I just use Xposed Edge Pro, because it offers a working way to go into immersive mode, but you don't actually need to open it after setting it up. You don't need the pie/halfmooon menu. It has an activity that can be called. I have a different custom menu that I set up with another app that calls the XposedEdge Pro shortcut to put the phone into immersive mode. Xposed Edge also lets you add quick settings buttons to hide the status or nav bars.
You could also just set up gestures through Xposed Edge to trigger immersive mode

And this is while using the gesture navigation or are you using the nav bar?

Sorry, it is a Magisk module, not an Xposed module.
I use the gesture navigation, but I don't use the XposeEdge gestures. I was just saying that there are different ways of triggering it. There might be some other apps that still, work, but the other old apps that put the device in immersive mode just didn't seem to work anymore. So, Xposed Edge was the only way I could get it working. If all you care about is getting rid of of the gesture pill at the bottom, and don't want to hide the status bar, there is a mod you can use with Substratum Lite.
You mentioned using Tasker. Well, I just looked in Tasker and it does give you the option to call an App Shortcut from Xposed Edge Pro. I sort of got per-app immersive working with Tasker.
To test it try this:
1. Press the + button to add new profile and select "Application"
2. Select all apps that you want to be in immersive mode
3. For you task, select App > Shortcut > Xposed Edge Pro > Hide Status Bar > Turn On.
4. Do the same thing as above, but select Hide Navigation Bar.
At this point it should trigger it when you open one of those apps that you specified. The main issue is that it persists if you go to any other app. So then you might need to create an inverse version of the profile and tasks above, to turn it off for every other app, including your launcher. There is about a quarter second delay for the immersive to turn on when you switch to a new app, though.

It works on A13. I've been using it since day one on Pixel 7 Pro. Immersive mode, custom dpi and font size work. Only few apps are incompatible (Google Photos, Files, Recorder).
Screenshots:
1. Chrome with immersive mode enabled.
2. ES File Explorer with immersive mode and custom dpi.

I flashed a zip that makes my status bar 1px so the notification pull-down gesture still works but the screen is basically stretched to the top of the phone. Works perfectly

[Q] how to enable full screen immersive mode?

full screen (no status or nav bar) hasn't been happening for me. is there a way to enable it?
I believe it requires an app to request it so you'll have to wait until apps get updated with the functionality.
Ah ok. strange there's so much talk about this feature on sites and from Google yet it's not actually really in use. most of these tech sites write about phones they haven't even used.
Techradar guys have been able to use it in Google Reader app according to their early hands on review. Give it a go and see how it works there before support from other apps arrives.
I think this is a feature that most probably can be applied to all apps in a simple way by a Xposed module (similar like App settings module). Be patient, something like that will come.

Not right. With Gravitybox, you can enable Expanded Desktop which is of course nice (and used by me), but Immersive Mode is different: In ED you just can toggle it on/off (hide/unhide navbar/statusbar permanently), while in Kitkat's IM I you can, while the bars are hidden, swipe from the screen edge to show them.

Some apps have immersive mode built in, otherwise I believe you can't get it WITHOUT flashing a custom ROM.
Cataclysm ROM works, and has a quick toggle for it if you're wondering. And plenty others.

Anyway full Immersive Mode is suboptimal. One wants to see the statusbar for quick informations. So Gravitybox's solution where you can only hide the navbar is best.

I am new to Xposed so I can not give any indication on the history, but I can confirm that I can get the following options for Expanded desktop mode in the latest version of GravityBox for KitKat:
Disabled
Hide navigation bar
Immersive status bar
Immersive navigation bar
Semi-immersive
Immersive
The settings are in the "Display tweaks" menu. Once activated, you can turn the effect on and off via the power menu (found by holding down the power button on your phone for a second or two). GravityBox's Immersive Mode works the same as KitKat's IM and from what I can tell it works very well indeed. It will hide the nav bar and status bar and give applications that extra screen real estate to use. A swipe from the top of the screen will temporarily show the navbar and status bar.
I am running GravityBox [KK] [2.9.6] on my Nexus 5.

(Guide) Hide Navigation Bar / Immersive Mode/ Transparent [root required]

Hello.
I asked myself why you can not hide the Navigation Bar from the factory.
I Have long researched and have come to this solution until an official version works. It works very well and I am quite satisfied.
On Playstore I discovered this app (All in One Gesture) by YS Liang.
What it can do;
【Supported Gestures
• Swipe from edges.
• Double tap on the status bar.
• Long press on the physical keys (for Android 4.3+). Works great on Android 7
• Mouse or stylus (S Pen) is supported.
【Supported Actions
• Home, Back, Recent Apps, Screen Off, Immersive Mode, etc.
• Launch of an application or a shortcut.
Step 1:
- Open All in One Gesture> Enable Swipe
- scroll down to Corners> aktivate Lower Left Area
Step 2:
- swipe from left to right, you will see Side Panel [Settings]
- go to Personalisation and open Edge Preference; and make your settings.
- (mine configuration is: Opacity 0% , Corner Size 15px, Edge Sensitivity 60px, Edge With 50%, Horizontal
Offset 0%, Vertical Offset 0%, Swipe Distance 40px).
- activate Behind Keyboard
- go back to Side Panel [Settings]
Step 3:
- swipe from left to right to see Side Panel
- click on Immersive Mode
- if you want to see the Status Bar, activate it
- Enable Blacklist and click on Manage Blacklist to exclude your desired apps from Immersive Mode
- Now activate the Immersive Mode in the upper right corner (for constantly usage )
or deactivate Blacklist/Immersive Mode (for using with a swipe down activation....)
you're Done, that's it. play with the settings and find your best solution!!)

Yeah, but you don't even need root to do this on a per-app basis. Just providing an alternative, non-root solution here.
Using shell I typed in:
"adb shell pm grant com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS" and the blacklist became visible. Also, my keyboard now works with this app.
Is there any ADB command or other non root option to increase auto-hide time when immersive mode is on?
Thanks ?
Alternative to this is go to your Edge settings (default by Samsung) and install the Edge Softkey and the order your Edge Softkey to be first.
Enable Immersive and swipe at the edge for navigation keys.

* Media actions are not guaranteed to work with every app. Media actions use standard Android APIs to work with most apps.
** If you notice that an app is "slow" to launch after using the pill to trigger the home button, that's because of an obscure change made all the way back in Android 4.4 KitKat. Unless you have this Xposed Module or a custom ROM installed with the patch, there's no way around it.
***Lock Screen is compatible with the vast majority of devices. How it works is like this: Makes screen brightness and display timeout minimum and then displays a fullscreen black activity until the phone actually enters sleep mode from the timeout (~5 seconds.) There are other ways to lock the screen but we decided against them, at least for this release.
****Screenshot action uses the MediaProjection API, which is normally used to record the screen. Here, we just record the screen for a single frame. This is the only way pre-Android P for it to work. Screenshots are saved to /Pictures/NavigationGestures

Can we add a feature where the pill is in its own separate area so it doesn't overlap with certain UI elements?
No, sorry. We are already pushing the screen content down to hide the nav bar. Adding this feature would require us to push the screen content up as well. We can’t have it both ways.
There's a "white line" at the bottom of the screen!
This is NOT a bug. This is a side-effect of a change we intentionally made after version 1.0.0 because without it, many Samsung, Motorola, and Xiaomi devices were reporting major bugs (eg. black screen after unlocking which made the phone unusable.) The “white line” is caused by the navigation bar being hidden 99.99% but not 100% (ie. we hiding the navigation bar entirely except for 1 pixel.) So the “white line” is actually just your navigation bar that’s colored white. We added an Experimental Setting called "Use Full Overscan" which gets rid of the white line. Use it at your own risk.
Pill doesn't work with Samsung DeX/Samsung Good Lock!
Android prevents third-party apps from showing overlays on top of SystemUI apps like the status bar and lock screen. You can use the blacklist function in Behavior settings to make the original nav bar show in these apps.
Pill doesn't show when you open the camera from the lock screen, answer a call from the lock screen, or open a notification for quick reply from the lock screen!
Android prevents third-party apps from showing overlays on top of SystemUI apps like the status bar and lock screen. This also includes calls, apps, or notifications answered from the lock screen. The pill cannot be shown until you unlock the device.
Pill doesn't show in Facebook Messenger, Drupe, or other floating apps!
Go to Experimental Settings and select the "Keep Pill Shown in other Overlay Apps." Pick Messenger, Drupe, etc. in this list.
Pill doesn’t work with screen pinning.
We have no way of simulating a long press on the back button without root. A tentative solution we are looking into is detecting when the phone enters a pinned screen state and disabling the pill to bring back the stock nav bar.
Home action doesn't work on the OnePlus 5!
OxygenOS prevents the app from performing the home action if you both enable the software navigation bar and disable the "always enable home button" option in Button settings. To fix this, please enable the "always enable home button" option.
Pill keeps "jumping" up and down with the navigation bar!
This means you either enabled Immersive Mode manually (ie. not from the app) or another app triggered Immersive Mode which is interfering with our app. Here are some possible causes and solutions:
Nova Launcher: In the "Notification Bar" section under "Look & Feel," there may be a "Hide Navigation Bar" option. If there is, check to make sure that it is disabled.
LG G6/LG V20/LG V30/LG G7 ThinQ: Go to*Settings > Display > Home touch buttons > Hide Home touch buttons and disable the "lock/hide icon" option up top and uncheck every app in the list.
Samsung Galaxy S8/Samsung Galaxy Note 8/Samsung Galaxy S9: Go to*Settings > Display > Nav Bar > Show and Hide Button and turn off the toggle up top and uncheck every app in the list.
Feature requests
Is it possible to keep the pill in the same spot when rotating the screen?
We will be adding this as a feature in a future release.
Can we add an action to launch a shortcut/activity?
Yes, that is planned for a future release (premium.)
Can we add Tasker integration?
Yes, that is planned for a future release (premium.)
Can we add a swipe down and hold gesture?
Yes, that is on our todo list.

There's no difference with running this on a rooted device right now except it'll make setup easier (you don't need to use your PC for set up if you're rooted.)
In a future release we may allow for shortcuts/intents to be sent so you can customize the action to your heart's content (and potentially use root to do more actions.)
Also, if there's enough demand we may use input KeyEvent commands to inject button presses rather than the Accessibility API. This should give better performance but it requires root. It's not something we've implemented yet though.

Well, for me is no big deal. But for others, running ADB could be. I don't think it's right to not be able to skip that permission, since, you can(almost) disable completely the taskbar..

That is very strange. This seems to only be happening on Samsung phones. We asked Max Weinbach who has an S9 to test it and he never had this issue. We'll have to figure out why that happens.
Thanks for this app, I'm having fun playing with it.
Using it on Oneplus 5t oreo stable 5.1.1 magisk root, all permissions granted, premium addon installed, nova launcher beta.
When I set the vibration to 0ms when I exit that page of settings the vibration gets automatically reset to the default 50ms.
This does not seem to occur on any setting from 1ms upwards. I am interested to see if anyone else can reproduce this behaviour.
The way the pill works with SwiftKey keyboard is interesting, perfectly functional but not an ergonomic location on a longer screen for me.
Edit: ninja'd by the OP, see why you've done it that way with the keyboard now.

I see now. It only happened when doing gesture up on the screen for "All Apps" the only way for me to make it normal again by turn the the screen off and turn it on again.
anyone know how to turn off that system prompt displaying over other applications on notification? kinda annoying...btw using emui 8 oreo 8.1
Working fine on my Xperia Z5 running stock nougat...
Pill on top of the Keyboard is the safest position in my opinion to avoid accidentally pressing it when tapping the space key..
I hope you can introduce more swiping features in your future updates.
Great work.
Edit:
In some games the pill disappears completely leaving no option to exit the game. What I did was to go to settings via control pannel.

how? network speed in status bar / immersive display (similar to Gravitybox)

Back then, on my Nexus 5, I used Gravitybox via Xposed.
The most liked features have been the display of the actual network speed (DL/UL rates in kb/s) and the immersive display (fullscreen, no black bars top and bottom even for apps not made for it).
I'd like to get this back on my Pixel 3, but how?
Root & Magisk possible.
Thank you for ideas!

If you're pixel is from Google, then you can root it. But there's only an unofficial Xposed that will work. I'm not sure if that supports gravitybox.

well, it is rooted with Magisk, but the Xposed you mentioned is beta unstable and does not yet support Gravitybox. Understable, with Gravitybox being a conglomerate of a whole lot of different mods.
I was wondering, if there are other possibilities to be explored. I am really wondering why there is no Magisk Module for the DL/UL speed in the status bar already - do other users not desire this or is it commonly fulfilled already, how?
The immersive display on the Pixel 3 is sort of a regress, - quite often i only see a contextually unused bar where the menu keys are.
Well, even chrome shows a white bar there, without using the area for website content display.
Did I miss some setting to toggle it?
@Tulsadiver 's mod in the themes section does it. It is also available on DU custom rom.

You can use Tasker to do this. Just a matter of creating a task for immersive mode in tasker and then run the task. Also, you can create a task to turn immersive mode off and run that if you want it off. Easiest way though is to create both tasks and then add a widget to both of them on you home screen. Then just touch one widget to turn immersive mode on and touch the other to turn it off. Another option is to create a profile that will start immersive mode when you start one of the apps in the profile, such as your browser. Then, when you quit using the app, it reverts back to immersive mode off. Whatever the case, it works great. If you want to try it, I can help you with it. They are really pretty simple tasks to set up. Are you familiar with Tasker?
so far the Edxposed for me works well on my pixel 3 with these modules:
App Locale 2
Google Mpas SDK Drift Fix for China
GravityBox[P] beta 5: network speed indicator and immersive mode work great
Lataclysm
XprivacyLua
Should be more workable modules

Open Tasker and touch the tasks tab at the top. Then, at the bottom right you'll see a plus symbol. Touch it and a small window for naming the task will open. Name it whatever you choose. In the next window, touch the plus at the bottom and then select code. Then select run shell. Then, where it says command, you simply type or copy and paste the code I give you. On that same page you'll see a line that says use root. Put a check mark in the box next to it and then use the back arrow at the top left to go back. This is the code you'll use in the command box.
This one is for turning immersive mode on.
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
This one is for turning off immersive mode.
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=
Create two tasks in the manner I mentioned, one task for immersive on and another for turning it off.
When you back out of the window where you typed the command, it takes you to the task edit window. At the bottom left you'll see a play button you can use to test the task. Touch it and, it'll turn on or off, depending of course which task it is you're in.
You can use that button to turn immersive mode on or off or you can add a Tasker widget for each task on your home screen. Then it's just a matter of touching them to turn it on and off. Also, if you prefer, you can add buttons for them in the quick settings you see when you drag down the status bar. Just open the quick settings, touch the edit button and add the Tasker buttons there. There are three of them, add two and assign the tasks to them.

Question [Solved] OnePlus back gestures on Pixel 7 Pro?

Is there anyway to customize the back gesture for the Pixel 7 Pro?
I hate the fact that by default, the back gesture is to swipe in from the left and right side of the screen.
This interferes with hamburger menus in every app where swiping in from the left side of the screen no longer works.
The way OnePlus does it is way better, where swiping UP from the bottom left or right side of the screen takes you back. This is just as easy and preserves menu functionality in all apps.
On a rooted device, is there anything that can do this?
On a rooted device, use Fluid Navigation Gestures (FNG) and you can set swipe up gestures along the bottom. You must set the phone to 3 button navigation before applying and follow all instructions.

To open app menus you need to swipe diagonally. If the menu is on the left side, for example, you can slide your finger from the left lower third to the top right.

After seeing that app, I also found an app called vivid gestures. This one is more up to date however the "hide nav bar" feature doesn't seem to be working even after granting permission with root. Any fix?

Try this: go to data/adb/post-fs-data.d and create an empty file with nk extension, containing "resetprop qemu.hw.mainkeys 1" and reboot. Not completely sure, but you might need to set permission to 744.

Will this get rid of the 3 buttons too? Or just the colored bar behind them?
aospmods to hide the navbar. works with vivid navigation gestures

Does that require Xposed framework?
Yes

I don't have a pixel 7 Pro (planning to get one), but if you can enable the 3 button navigation, the method above will remove it completely. (Which means you'll have no way to navigate around, but that's the Vivid / Fluid Gestures comes in)

Yep I figured it out. I used this instead: https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Alt-Repo/HideNavBar
And then I use Vivid Gestures

This worked perfectly. I named my file Hidenavbar.nk and put the code you specified inside, and altered the permissions to 744.
Thanks so much! Now I can use this with vivid navigation gestures and I don't have to rely on any other magisk modules.
