Same here, buuuut you could try to look if there is a filter on. Just make sure it's set to "original"

No. Did Lew Later do a beard hair test on this Camera?
On my Note 9, using Gcam took significantly better pictures on the front cam, so it's most likely just the software smoothing is just way too high. Looking forward to a Samsung update to fix this or when a stable Gcam works for the front camera for our phones

Bixby Vision may be the culprit. BV is also used for target tracking.. A BS dialog box asks you for permissions before it activates the picture "enhancement" portion.
Its tracking feature needs none. Clear cam data, clear all Bixby data* and do not give it this permission.
I package block all of bixby except BV and BV Framework. Alternatively you could try package blocking all of the Bixby apks but you'll lose target tracking (that yellow box) and maybe others advanced cam features. What a mess
*I -think- this is where that sign off permission is stored. Bixby sucks... I like my ugly mug the way it is creepy Samsung...

Sure, tried every mode available! Let me upload a similar iPhone 5 pic, hold on.
I also noticed the pictures weren't what I expected.
They tend to blur quite easily.
I'm hoping a software update will sort it.
It's a 13MP camera, you're either doing something wrong or your camera is bad.

I agree with the poster, ive had many phones and by far the note 3 has the worst photo quality ever, im really dissapointed for a ~750 euro device to have such a bad camera. 13MP looks nice in the specs but numbers is not everything.
To me it looks like there is some kind compression on the image, maybe the firmware has some kind of compression method to keep the camera up to speed for zero shutter lag.
Hope samsung will look into this and give us an update in the camera firmware.

Yes you are right, the bright and especialy daylight pictures are pretty nice, but when things get dark or far away they smudge out. You can see it happen in the bottom 2 pictures in that post, the last 2 are obviously lower quality than the flowers for example.

What do you expect? The camera has a 1/3" sensor, a FX SLR has ~28 times the sensor area. This means that you would need 28 times the light (or time) to shoot a photo with same quality.
This is not possible because in the conditions where your photo was shot you would need a tripod and long exposure (which is not useable on moving objects) to make a photo which has comparable quality like an outdoor picture!
Anyhow, I have the N3 for one day now and I am happy with it so far, especially with the better camera!

Well it does have to do with the megapixels because the more you have the less the typical blur will be visibly apparent as a result of movement, which seems to be the case here, whether that be movement by you or the subject.

It isnt blur, it's the denoise that samsung is using. This is a software issue, among other things obviously. Whether or not they fix it I have no idea.

Until manufacturers either quit trying to outdo each other with more megapixels on the same size sensor, lower the megapixels on the same size sensor (like HTC did with the One), or increase the sensor size (such as Apple just did with the 5s), low light photos are going to have more and more noise. The smaller the pixel, the less light it captures, which results in worse low light performance.

For the car stereo photo: The camera is metering for the bright screen. Try HDR, or using a flash. I'm currently on an ASOP rom so I can't recall if there is a way to change the metering mode, but try the others.

Sure you can: Center, Spot and Matrix.
For OP: Try Spot metering. You can also lock on the dashboard and then reframe on the radio display (you can lock exposure and focus, if I recall correctly, by holding the shutter button - but only if burst mode is disabled). But then you'll probably have the display overexposed.
OP I would agree with you, I'm far from impressed with the camera on this phone, I suppose some would say it's not the sort of phone for people who like taking photos and to choose a different phone. However coming from the Note 2, HTC One and Z1 all performed pretty well in lowlight conditions and were pretty quick at taking photos, this is pretty naff in lowlight even with the flash on as there seems to be too much of a delay with the shutter!
Today I took a couple of photo's in good light and I had to hold the phone still for like 3/4 secs otherwise my photo blurred like crazy! Either there is another setting I've turned on by mistake or its just this phone.
I'm glad I have a decent camera and don't really on this as my main camera....

Btw, the note 3's iso can go up to 1000 if its set to Auto. The quality at that iso level sucks even if theres enough ambient light.

I agree that the note 3 camera aint so bad. I actually feel that it takes better shots than an SLR in daylight conditions. For medium to low light, thats when the note 3 starts to lose it edge. I almost always have to resort to using flash, and evenso, if the subjects are far like more than a meter away, the flash just wont cut it.
Dont get me wrong though, I love my note 3. Its not like I take a lot of photos in medium and low lights.

It seems that way because the camera on the Note 3 (and most smartphones) oversaturates the picture. Makes the colours look all bright and shiny, and people like that.
It's when you zoom in past 20% actual-size preview that you start seeing the difference. (Unless you use one of those cheap pointless SLR's that sell for 100-300 quid. Those actually do take worse pictures.)
so seems like my front facing camera won't focus. it only has a set focus for whatever is in the background and will NOT focus on a face. it's absolutely awful. whatever is in the foreground is blurry and there's no options in the new Samsung cameras to adjust exposure or anything which also makes making some videos on the ffc suck. anyone else having this issue? my note 4 ffc was much better than this one. ugh.
Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I have the same problem with mine. I thought it was because of the beauty filter.
maybe it's just how this camera is. pardon my ugly mug, but here's a great example. notice it's focusing on the background. it honestly seems just like it's a problem where it's focusing on infinity rather than what's in foreground. maybe a software tweak can fix it? I really don't want to return the damn phone because of this...

Both cameras show the face detect cirkel.
Could be an issue with the new 3D beauty filter maybe? (And yes i have turn both down to zero)

sounds cool. the quality is WORSE in low light, and it's very oil painty looking, which i presume is the processing..however, they don't give you raw features for FFC..they don't even let you adjust exposure which pisses me off, bc i used my note 4 to record guitar videos for youtube, and the FFC looked fine on the note, but it's so overexposed on the s7 it sucks.
front facing cameras don't support auto focus, they have a Fixed-focus lens, & since the sensor is so small there is no bokeh(blur), so its focus distance is set to infinity, that's why it looks a bit blurred when you are too close to it

Thats because its has a very wide f/1.7 aperture, it will give some blur at very close distance, since its focus distance is set to infinity
the note was f1.9. not that big of a difference to create such a drastic difference in quality.

Tested two S7 and both was blurry and looked lika filter all over the picture.
Then i tested two S7 Edge and they was crisp sharp, better than my S6.
Both the S7 and the S7 edge had the same camera sensors. Forgot to check FW version but since it is the sames sensors in both the s7 and s7 edge it may be a FW diffense.
What is your FW version on the s7 edges front camera.
hmm very interesting! I wonder if it's a firmware issue then. why would the edge have a different firmware than the s7 though?

Up to you . Im going to keep mine and see if it gets rooted. If it doesn't... well, i might keep it quite a few month. after all i only paid 600+ for it, not 800+
I think that the problem relies on the ISO i was using. Let me show you all 3 pictures and zoom them in , you will see that the noise significantly diminishes .
Oh man. Looks like I need to get a case.
Camera on auto mode is AWFUL at any kind of action shots. In a CrossFit competition this weekend and the camera couldn't keep up at all and most shots are BLURRY. I ddn't go into manual mode cuz i figured the phone would keep up, wish i would have viewed the pics before. Disappointed big time with this.

Is there not a sports shot or action shot mode like in Samsung?

I looked in the modes after the fact and did not see one, may need to find an alternative cam app. Problem was I know exposure and all that but when competing i gave it to my husband to take pics., i could have made corrections shooting manual but honestly, didn't expect to have to do so.

I actually really like how that looks. It's got a quality I really like to work with. Once I actually get my phone in hand and start playing with it, I'll see if I have the same type of noise. If it's the same and I can figure out a workflow on mobile to recreate what I used to do with my old Nikon D80, I'll share the workflow to make that kind of noise work for you.

Check the last post on page number one. There you will see that the noise was reduced alot from left to right. The first one is the same one i posted first, the second and third i lowered the iso and adjusted the aperture. Now, remember, i was using manual mode, if it had been in automatically, maybe it would have adjusted everything itself and reduce the noise on its own.

I'm actually very keen to play with the noise generated off of this sensor. Something to note is that on the Nexus 6, engaging HDR in the Google Camera app cleaned up a lot of the noise from that sensor's files and made them quite usable so I'll be looking into that too. But yeah, if the noise has certain characteristics, it can make for some good photos.
A couple of shots of a photogenic spider from yesterday. Between Google's compression during upload, then redownloading and uploading to XDA only to be compressed again, I think they still look pretty good.
Anybody know how to embed links straight from Google Photos?
On action shots , did you use burst mode. The LG G5, LG G4 and V10 were brilliant using this method. Another option is record in 4K and then extract 8mp stills from the video.

I really hope they are equal as far as battery life, I really don't want a phone that's taller than ip7, the regular s8 looks to be an ideal size but I love how I can use my s7e one handed
Two things really concern me about s8+
i. height vs s7e
ii. rear fingerprint reader next to cam
I could drop down to an s8 to reduce the height and the screen would still be larger than the s7e, but then the battery is quite a bit smaller (3,000mAh) and still stuck with the odd fingerprint reader placement.
I'll wait for early review but seriously thinking about G6.
These photos might help to compare :

I'm concerned about the fingerprint reader placement too... I was hoping they could add the fingerprint reader directly on the display, but I'm sure they'll keep this new feature for the Galax Note 8...
But if they have improved their iris scanner or also added 3D face recognition (rumors), the fingerprint scanner won't be necessary
I think I'll buy the S8 because I really love it's design, but I'll wait the official announce to see what's new before deciding to sell my S7e

Btw, there is one more camera/scanner in front of the phone, it might be the new 3D face recognition
I am afraid of greedy Samsung!
after last year problems they may be become greedy to put lots of new thing to phone! and make new problem! all optimization since galaxy s6 may go away!
I think the dimensions of the S8 look ridiculous. Narrow and tall strange looking thing. My concern was battery life and size of the S8+ but after seeing what they're going to cost in the UK, Samsung can keep their S8 with pleasure. The massive price hike reeks of them trying to claw back some of the money they lost with the Note7 debacle.
An interesting comparison to show the difference in 18:9 versus 16:9
Here are photos comparing the HTC U Ultra to the LG G6, both are 5.7" phones.
LG G6: 86.5cm²
HTC U Ultra: 90.2cm² (not including the second screen)
(And for good measure let's throw in the Nexus 6P: 90.7cm²)

cm² is the new definition instead of aspect ratio. I'll have to see it in person. Looks very odd in the renderings above.
