S-Pen Not working on the middle of the screen - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

T-Mobile Snapdragon Note 20 Ultra:
Had the phone for a few days and everything was fine at first. Today i noticed when trying to write a note, directly on the center of the screen the stylus doesn't write. I then tried to scroll in some apps from that middle part of the screen and it doesnt work as well. That part of the screen responds to my finger but not the pen...any one else experiencing this?

They are probably using a magnetic accessory. Temporary problem.

Thanks for this valuable advice . Yes it was the problem of the Samsung original flip cover . It has two pieces of magnet up and down. I removed the cover and now works

S23 ultra, my first Samsung, does this too. Was worried there for a minute before I found this thread Still sad because magnetic cover is really comfy.

S-View Cover Interferes the Compass

I love my original s-View cover but it interferes my s4 compass especially with the cover is folded to the back of the phone. I can clearly see how the cover changes the direction of the Google Map compass while flipping the cover.

That's because there's a magnet in it to activate the hal sensor to tell the screen to go to s-veiw window
If you take a magnet and put it where the sensor is on the phone with the s-veiw cover open your screen will change like if the cover is closed

If the S-View covers work with the aid of a magnet, how does this one work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281100942769
As I understand, no magnets here and yet they claim it has all S-View abilities!
PS ... anyone bought this cover? If yes, is this latched on to the built in battery cover or does it reduce bulk by replacing the battery cover?
Thanks

Got to have a magnet to trigger the S4 S-View mode on the display. Doesn't say it's got a magnet in the listing, then again doesn't say it hasn't.... Looks like it's got kind of a tpu case which snaps round the phone and the cover is glued onto that.

I have this cover. It does not replace the battery cover, but fits over it. However, the "leather" is very thin, so the case doesn't really add much bulk. The s-view function works perfectly. However, I won't continue to use this case once a better s-view case comes out. The part that holds the phone in the case doesn't cover the corners of the phone, so they are vulnerable if the phone is dropped. And, the front of the case could easily open if the phone is dropped, so there is no protection for the front of the phone, either. I really prefer flip cases, because I ruined an expensive phone by dropping it, so I want something that protects the phone. I really like the s-view option, but this isn't the case for me.
I got a cheap copy of the S-View which fits perfectly and works just as good. Unfortunately it seems the magnet is too strong because the S-View mode activates when I fold the cover around the back!
Is there any way to fix this?
Yeah do what I did, take it off, throw it into the corner in disgust, and put a tpu flip case on instead.

Dude, do you have a link to the one you bought - does it work just like the S-View?
I have the cover from Tridea. Got it yesterday.
It is actually quite nice and protects the phone better than the original S-view case. However, this is magnetic too and makes the compass more or less unusable.

I'm wondering this too. I paid $7, versus $60, so I can't complain, but I would LOVE to find out that the authentic ones actually fix this critical issue.
Why not buy an original one, guaranteed to work. I have had mine since day one and works great, even when flipped back. I can post a video. If need be.

If you open a compass app, does it point to the right directions (south, north etc) even when you slowly rotate the phone horizontally?

Maybe it is different for you, but the compass on the S4 sucks with or without the S-Cover. It constantly need recalibrating on many of these phones.

I agree. What is the reason for this though? Is it a software problem that could be fixed with an update, or a hardware problem which is pretty much permanent?
My S4 S-View (original) cover definitely interferes with compass readings. As this is an original Samsung case I find this quite incredible how this has been overlooked.
With the case on and open, my compass app would always point in the same direction.
Gradual movement of the front cover from the open to closed position would quickly alter the compass bearing etc.
I decided to ditch the S-View cover for the standard one for the following reasons:
1. Affects compass bearings as described
2. Unable to see notification LED when the cover is closed. (it is in fact not enabled at all when its closed)
3. I'd rather see my full screen caller ID on an incoming call than the small S-View window. I know if you open the case you will then see the caller ID screen, but I'd prefer to see it from the offset.
Only drawback now is that I hate leaving the screen uncovered so I've put a screen protector on, and I can never get to fit one perfectly...I always seem to get one or two specs of dust that cause bubbles.

I am guessing it is a hardware issue because several people have the problem (there is a thread in the "general" section about it) and it doesn't seem to matter which app or APK is used with it, it has the same issues and needs to be recalibrated periodically to work properly.

Well, it's tough to purchase a legit one sometimes, and knowing IF that design flaw doesn't exist in an authentic version would make it worth it.
Edit:
Fixed it myself. I pried open the fabric, took out the magnet, put a nail between the magnet and the hammer to shatter it, and put back half a disc. Works perfectly.
I have the original S-view cover and if I slowly open or close the cover over the phone, the compass changes values, and I even got a notification in compass app regarding the magnetic field while playing with the cover.
Is there any way to repair this behavior while keeping the S-view functionality?

To be quite honest, I just bought my note 8 used on ebay and got it literally yesterday. However, I have been reading a lot of reviews. I haven't heard of the battery being affected by them (apple uses similar covers with magnets), but I have heard of the magnets messing with the wacom tech the s-pen uses.

I have been using similar cover(white) since june.
only thing I did was take out the magnets from behind so that they don't interfere with s-pen.
The magnets are just not powerful enough to cause issues with battery(Li-ion/poly) if that all is your primary concern.
In Case if you want to take the magnets out,
just take tablet out, then use a small coin and put it on the tablet and coin should pretty much stick to where the magnets are. once you have nailed the location (small disc magnets), just use a cutter blade to slice the back paper/fabric s bit and you should be able to take out those discs.
put the tablet back in and should be good to go.
Do note that the side flap will stop working once you take magnets out.
thnks for rply

Here what I have done with flip case
I had my Note 8 in a magnetic case for six months with no problems of any kind. I checked it periodically to be safe, and even with a broken screen, the S-pen still works perfectly.
I think it depends on the case design and maybe how strong the magnet is. I tried a case I bought on Amazon that had the flap or buckle type design and it immediately caused problems writing on the screen. I scribbled the pen back and forth.
I'll try to attach a photo of it where you can clearly see the magnet distortion it left on the screen where the pen could not write. It went away after I removed the case.
I scribbled on the left side also because a magnet was there also that turned the tablet on and off, but that magnet caused no problem.

just got my Note 8 last week.
got a case from amazon... Poetic flip case.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ2Y71E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it has a on/off feature.
it uses a clasp to hold closed... not magnet.
I have heard a little about the magnet and issues with some digitizers.
it don't seem to affect it. how else can I tell when it causes problems?
will it be permanent?
how many magnets are on the case?
I thought there was only 1.. to do the on/off feature
I've been using this case for a year .. MOKO Slim Cover, without a single problem :
http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-Cov...o+note+8&pebp=1421914943329&peasin=B00B4BEAM8
I'm guessing it's safe to use cases with magnetic covers as the majority of the probably use very low power magnets, which won't cause any interferance with your device.
Hi all,
Been using the official Flip Case with my Note 8.0 LTE and no battery issues at all.
I did notice that if the front cover is misaligned by even 1/2 a centimeter, it does activate the device, so make sure when you close it its not askew, even slightly.

Anyone use a Magnetic mount?

Since the phone is now metal/glass, not sure what kind of metal its made out of. Will a magnetic car mount work on the back of the phone? How about with a case without adding a metal stick on piece?

The phone works great with a magnetic car mount. I have one that connects to the air vents in my car, and the phone works perfectly. If you add a case to it, however, the hold is pretty weak, so you may need to add something between the phone and the case. I have tried two thin cases, and the hold is still enough for me, but my mount does have two feet at the bottom to help ensure the phone doesn't fall. I don't think it will work for a think case without adding something. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Car mount attached to the air vents? Sounds nice if you have the AC on, but what about when you need to use the heat? Wouldn't that overheat the phone?

In the winter, just close that specific vent. [emoji12]
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Proclip rocks. Usually those are on a vent. I have used them for years. They never blow heat badly enough to affect the phone; when they are blowing hot air, the car is cold inside anyway, so the phone is cold too.plus there are many other vents blowing warm air at that point, so the car warms up and then you turn down the heat anyway.
Only messes with s-pen while connected to magnetic mount. Doesn't damage anything.

I have the same issue with a case with a magnet. I guess the phone is so thin it effects the screen, or the magnet effects the s-pen

If you use a mount like a steelie that has the magnet on attached to the phone, that will cause an issue. If you use one of the magnet mounts that you just put the metal plate on the back of the phone you are fine. Just remember that when attached to the mount, where ever that magnet is, your S-Pen will not write.

So there won't be any permanent damage from the magnet? It will just make the s pen not work when attached?

That looks like a cool product. Does it work with the Note5 WITHOUT putting the magnetic sticker on the back of the phone? I am looking for a solution that works with the metal of the phone directly. I was using the original version of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DPMNNUO/ref=cm_cr_notf_fhv_prd with my GS4 but had the metal plate inside the case so it stuck great The mount has a small round part with 4 tiny magnets in it but that isn't enough to hold the Note5 directly. I think it is the reduced surface area on the mount that might be causing the issue.
Is there any double sided magnet thing I can stick to the phone and then to the mount that can easily be taken on and off when in the car that would strengthen the bond with my current mount?
It sticks real good to the back of the note 5. I have a bumper so the back is exposed. On top of the magnets it has a sticky membrane.

Thanks for the info. It is good to know I have a backup option if I can't get my current mount to hold the Note. I really didn't want to pay another $16 for a new mount so I'm trying to figure out how to increase the magnetism of my current one without having to put a sticker magnet on this phone which is why I was looking for some double sided magnet solution. Perhaps the magnetic plate with the sticker on it will magnetize to the phone without undoing the sticker? I guess I should try that first.

They do, I have had to get customers to remove the mounts many times because their spen was not working.
Little quark with magnetic mounts: It seems the metal will block NFC transmissions. I had to remove my case to use Android Pay yesterday.
Perhaps better placement of the metal piece would fix that issue though. But something to keep in mind if you use NFC a lot.

I have the magnetic plate behind my case and the main magnet in my vent. The other day my gyroscope got stuck and all my photos were upside down. It's apparently common and all you have to do is tap the back of the phone. The magnet does not turn the screen on or off.

I use a magnetic mount and it works beautifully.
I have a Scosche magnetic car mount and a Spigen Rugged Armour case. I placed the larger metal plate inside my case with the adhesive to the inside of the case (not phone) and it works very well. Has not fallen. I have not had any issues with signal, GPS, phone turning off, orientation, etc. Have not tried NFC to be honest though.
I used a magnetic car CD mount without any issues. I was able navigate with Google Maps.
I duct-taped the metal plate to the inside of my Adopted case.
This is the mount I am using:

I'm using a Koomus Magnetos mount with a magnetic plate taped to the inside of my Speck Candyshell Grip case (and my thinner Diztronic case). No issues affecting phone performance at all.
I stopped using my magnetic car mount on my note 4 because I noticed my 4g lte speeds (I'm on verizon) went down with the magnet. Haven't tried it with the 6p but will test it out.

I feel ya, bro. It seems just as untrustworthy as that hoe Sally Rottencrotch who lives in the next building and wants to show you her kitty . . . there's a voice inside your head saying "Don't do it man, she's dirty". A magnetic mount sounds like it would be asking for our expensive ass phone to go flying after the first big pothole you hit. I was looking into a car mount a few weeks ago and found this: The Best Smartphone Car Mount.
After researching the options for ten hours, surveying more than 1,000 Wirecutter readers, and testing about thirty models, the smartphone car mount we recommend for most people is TechMatte’s MagGrip CD Slot ($11). Although it may not be what you’d envision when you think of a car mount, the MagGrip CD Slot proved to be a simple, compact, and affordable option that’s a great fit for most cars. Compared to the other models we tested, the style allows for the easiest insertion, removal, and repositioning and does not sacrifice a secure hold. It also places the phone at an ideal position that doesn’t block your view of the road.

lol, 10-4 on Sally. My main concern was mostly the fact of having a "strong magnet" directly touching my device or case. NAND, sensors, processors, etc... all concern me when it comes to strong magnetic fields :/ Maybe I will buy one for my wife and test it out on her device first

There's really nothing to worry about.
I have (as well as many others) been using magnetic holders for years now.
It's no longer an issue since there aren't any devices with spinning discs.
I wouldn't worry about the phone flying off the mount either if you have it attached properly.
I've taken my previous car to the track multiple times and it held on fine.

i have a magnetic one that i had for my other phone that was already in my car. being on project fi, i got onto project fi chat help and asked about the magnetic car holders. the rep told me that while they had no data to support or not support it for the 6P, they would recommend not doing it due to the way the GPS and battery are positioned in the phone. take that for what it is worth for you...
Was tinkering with a magnetic car mount today and noticed that if the magnet touched the bottom back of the phone (right by the USB port) the screen turns on.
Any one have an idea why that would happen? Found it interesting, since that's not normally where the magnet will contact I'm not worried, but curious if any one knows what's being tripped.

Built in feature to activate the screen if a special case is used, notably the ones with a flap on the front cover. Once the front cover is flipped open, screen is automatically turned on to welcome you. You can trigger the same thing you witnessed by placing the magnet on the screen side, near the bottom. Magnet comes close, screen locks. Magnet moves away, screen activates. Same feature on a lot of other devices from years past actually, such as OG nexus 7 and whatnot.
Don't know if it applies to the 6p, but the OG moto droid had a dock that used a magnetic that automatically launched "car mode" when docked to the magnet.

I have one, got it on Amazon for like 8 bucks shipped. The metal disk that goes on to your phone is not magnetized, just metal so that it sticks to the magnetic base- so you don't have to worry about carrying the magnet around all day and erasing the credit cards in your pocket, etc...
Haven't noticed any effect on the sensors when attached, and I use GPS everyday. You would think it would mess up the compass, but I guess I don't use it while attached...

Best car mount for Note 9

MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED

The best in my opinion is the Schosche Magnetic Mount (the small sticky version). It really sticks, and is convenient. But on the down side, you can't use the wireless charging with it.
here's a link:
I planned on using the cd mount that I had with the note 8 on the 9 but after it popped free 3 times in a row driving down the road I just ordered a mount from proclipusa.com. That worked out so well I ordered another for my other vehicle. No point in taking any chances with this phone.
These guys have a couple of different options but for me this is the best one for any phone.

You can stick this thing on practically any surface.

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to decide which car mount would be the best for this device.
What car mount do you use? would you recommend it?

Depending on where you put your metal at you can still use wireless charging. I have a magnetic mount on my car and two pieces of metal slapped on the bottom of the case. Holds both upright and sideways just fine. Wireless charges as well.

would you mind showing us how you placed it and what kind of metal plate you have? cause mine is a bit too wide so it covers mostly the entire back of the device so wireless charging wont work.
I've got the iottie one touch 3. Holds the phone firmly and it's easy to put in and take out as well.

You can't get better than Brodit. I think they're sending me one to review, so I'll post a video once I've done it. For now, here's one for another phone.

Brodit is Proclips on this side of the pond. I agree it is one of the best I have ever used. I do wish the note 9 holder came with the clip for the charging cable like the one in your video.
I'm using a Proclip mount with an iOttie easy one touch 4 head and it works fantastic.

I need to move it down, and use 2 of the smaller one. Since I wanted it to also hang sideways I used two plates to have more force to hold the phone in place. I looked at the video of where the wireless charging pad is on the phone so there is some wiggle room.

thanks, i actually found this https://bit.ly/2CZ4xiZ i can see that the metal plates are quite thin and can be put on the closer to the side of the case. so hopefully this would work.
My only problem with this is it's not fast wireless charging.

I can't see it page is stuck on shipping
Keep in mind (main reason why I didn't look at wireless charging for the car) if you have android auto and other things running the wireless charging couldn't keep up on the charging. That is why I just plug in if I am going on a longer trip and short trips just quickly mount it. This phone has done amazing on battery life.

Interesting.. can you send a photo please?
get the iottie wireless fast charger car mount.
I've had this mount for a few years now, even bought a new one when I bought a new car. Simple, easy to use, it works well, and it's only $9.

This is a good one; It's almost identical to the Schosche, but it's cheaper and comes via Amazon. The one I use is just the one that comes from Walmart. But yeah, I've ordered one of these also.
For those with the magnetic car mount. Does the magnet not effect the s pen anymore? I remember seeing the old notes loose sensitivity or touch with the s pen when a magnetic case or mount.

Not that I've noticed, I do notice my screen comes on for an off screen note sometimes when I put my phone on the magnet a little to the left.
