Not 20 ultra snapdragon! - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hello ppl! Im thunking to order a note s20 ultra with snapdragon to Greece... but i know that greek language not supported... IS there any way without root to add Rom or multi language ?
I also HEard that note 20 ultra screen has burn in...

I have yet to come across the internet about the burn-in issue on the N20U can you lead us to that link?

Keep the brightness at 50% or less. Try to avoid exposure to direct sunlight when possible.
Not burn in; that happened on CRTs. The phosphors were physically burned by the electron beam.
OLEDs have a finite lifespan higher output/duty cycles and probably heat shortens it.
White is the most damaging, red the least.

Anywhere from 1800 to 100,000 hours lifespan depending on the manufacturer, color and brightness level.
Blue has the shortest lifespan.
Knowing this I keep blues and whites to a minimum and rarely go beyond 50% brightness.
Dark mode and very dark wallpaper if not black.
At almost 1 year my 10+ exhibits no perceivable decrease in light output including blue.

Did you just quote a reddit post about the S20 Ultra from over 178 days ago??... please provide evidence of screen burn in for the Note 20 Ultra... Which uses a different panel than the S20 Ultra, otherwise you are just speculating which is no good... Can't help if it's not accurate information

I've the Note 20 U, SD865+, but i don't see greek as an option. when you list all languages available -- there's a long long list -- probably 100.. but Greek isn't one of them. Sorry.
Ps. i doubt it's got anything to do with SD vs. Exynos.

I think you'll need to reflash the firmware if you want Greek.

A Samsung Experience center can do it. Samsung has Greek language variants just not normally an option in most regions from what I can see.

I don't live in a SD region either in Asia, but most Asian languages are here.

Every OLED screen thus far has had screen burn-in. It is not speculation that the Note 20's will also have screen burn-in. Until there is an official announcement in the tech world that OLED screens have been developed to lessen or eliminate screen burn, then it is a given, not speculation. Hope that was clear enough.

You miss the point...OP stated that there were reports of screen burn in and provided a source... Only his source does not report any current compliants about excessive screen burn in with the N20U.... Just a reddit post from a user on the screen burn in on a S20U.... Screen burn in is a thing, yet if there is a legitimate concern about excessive screen burn in, please provide the source as to benefit everyone else....

A Samsung fan? In a forum specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra? Ok!.... What am saying is that if there is an actual concern about excessive screen burn in on Note 20 Ultra, then please provide said source and not a concern about excessive screen burn in on another model...A relevant source would benefit everyone here as it would directly pertain to the N20U and not any other model

Samsung Galaxy S7 PWM (flickering)

Hi all!
I wonder if Samsung galaxy S7 have PWM for brightness control.
If you do not know what PWM (Pulse-width modulation, screen flickering) means, look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-width_modulation
In brief, it is a method to control screen brightness by turning the lighting on and off rapidly (ex. 240Hz).
Why is it bad? Because some people are very sensitive to PWM even if they cannot see it. PWM could give you headaches and eye fatigue after using the device.
I am currently using a LG G2 and am very happy that it does not have PWM. I can use it for reading even in a dark room.
So far, I have not found a single review with PWM test.
Glad to hear other people are concerned about PWM in phones. I have this problem and at one point it was so bad I dropped out of school, and lived in a dark room.

Yes and I am really upset that if they make a flagship device (i.e. the price tag is HIGH), why can't they spend a few more bucks for normal brightness control solution instead of using cheap one.

AFAIK, Galaxy S2 (or S3) didn't use PWM and may be there is a chance that S7 won't.

Yeah. Last August I interviewed a display engineer for Apple through my connections, and he says almost all Apple products since 2010 have a 100Khz PWM frequency below 50%, above is DC. Exceptions are the infamous 1st-gen retina Macbook with LG panel, first retina iPad, etc. I actually needed a flicker free laptop so I got a Macbook Pro 2015 with AMD graphics and installed WIndows on it
Would like to stick with Android though.

But buying an iPhone instead of an Android device is not the solution at all!
Let us wait for a review (I know that guys from ixbit check PWM in smartphones).
If S7 fails, there is also a hope for a G5.

Not sure about the controller, but A5 sure has PWM.
Another confirmation:

Google translate: https://translate.google.com/transl...msung-galaxy-a5.shtml#display-test&edit-text=
PWM oscillogram: http://www.ixbt.com/mobile/images/samsung-galaxy-a5/oled-mod.png
As you can see, the PWM is used only for brightness levels less than 75%. May be Samsung have updated the controller so it won't have PWM in S7. At least I hope so.

I am pretty sure that there no Amoled screens without pwm. So ips/lcd is the way to go if your eyes are sensitive

120hz and qhd

Do y'all think that the qhd display is capable of 120hz? Just I'm thinking that what if root could somehow enable this? If so I'm way behind but I'm just curious.
It probably is but the battery would be empty in ten minutes!
I think they disable it because it would probably give about 2 hours SOT! People would focus on that and complain like crazy. This device already has terrible battery life (for a flagship). Should have had a 7000 mah battery.

So just watched a theory vid on that... The SD variants are capable but the exynos isn't... Rumored that this would create more lash towards exynos. The tab s7 also has the SD 865+ and runs 120hz at QHD... however the tab s7 only comes in SD
I think it's a hardware limit. Much like hdmi 2.0 can run 1440p at 120hz but only 4k at 60.

Thought I read Samsung was working on optimizing the software for qhd 120hz so it wasn't such a battery hog. The display is capable it just eats battery. The impression I got from the article was if they get the software optimized enough for decent battery life we could see the option to enable it come in future updates.
I read somewhere that to use QHD and 120z there is an additional screen layer or element for the screen that was seen in the OnePlus 8 pro that has both. The ultrasonic fingerprint reader may have an issue with this while the optical sensor does not.

I think the same video has updated that Exynos is also capable of doing it. But I feel the battery would be **** on Exynos.
It's the Samsung firmware issues as it had too much bloatware and services in the background which causes all the battery drain in standby. You can see there is alot of app or services which we cant optimize it compare to other flagship
This one works with 120hz and qhd on note 20 ultra
Get 120hz Refresh rate with QHD for Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (thetecheaven.com)
Used qhd+ and 120hz on my prior device onerous 8 pro and SOT was over 5 hours not bad.
I still think it has to do with in-display sensor. All the screens with 120hz and QHD have optical. Samsung is the only one with ultrasonic and cannot do both.

Glass? back & screen brightness

So yesterday my N20 Ultra arrived from wondamobile (highly recommended, everything went smooth), and I'm quite happy.
I do have 2 questions though:
- Is the back really made of glass? Everyone says it is, but it feels completely different from my Oneplus 7 pro (and yes, I know for certain I don't have the non-ultra). The glass on my Oneplus feels cool to the touch, while the note doesn't. It also sounds different when you tap them with your nails.
- I heard this phone had the highest peak brightness of any screen. On the highest non-adaptive setting my Oneplus 7 Pro gets much brighter. Is this just Samsung limiting the max brightness, or is this a random difference in panel quality or something? I saw Lew from Unbox therapy also had potentially related questions about the display.
I made a return of my N9860 256gb. Compared to Note 9, theNote 20 ultra's brightness sucks! I order a new 512gb model. I hope will get luck with last one
These displays should be able to get very bright...

Firmware glitch it sounds like... bad Samsung
It isn't a Hardware fault. Samsung limited the manual max brightness limit to be like that , so you only get the full brightness in adaptive brightness mode under direct sunlight

So can you manually jack it up?
I never use adaptive brightness, lol it never worked right and still doesn't.
I don't want to kill my OLEDs or my eyes so typically it's at about the half way point or less on the 10+
The 20 U gets even brighter...
Using these devices in the sun is sort of asking for it.

Question Samsung's Galaxy S22 Series Is a Low-Signal Beast

Samsung's Galaxy S22 Series Is a Low-Signal Beast
If you frequently have trouble staying connected to your carrier's network, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series might be the solution. In testing, Samsung's Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra phones significantly outperformed their predecessors (as well Google's latest Pixel phones) in low-signal situations.
Ohhh nice. I like this. A lot of my cell usage is in poor service environments.
you should add that it is about the Snapdragon version for a specific chip that is integrated by Qualcomm; Samsung had probably other priorities for Exynos

I think the software is beta like...cause the phone will release in 10 days and many reviewers have stutter bugs and something like that. Do you have a pocture of yout phone? Which colour?
It's the phantom black version, 12/256 exynos version (I'm in Italy).
I was thinking the same thing, I also have this glitch where the screen turns off when you're browsing the apps (just like you would double tap on the home screen to lock the phone) and the other screen glitch with the purple pixelated stripe popping up when touching the fingerprint scanner, I think I fixed that one by using a normal photo as the lock screen wallpaper instead of the animated wallpaper though

I can vouch for this as I have seen similar reports and tests on the Exynos version being slow and battery life less than the s21U. So this isn't Trolls we're dealing with it's actually happening. So don't dismiss people so easily just because they are new and only have a few posts.
The article didn't mention the smaller s22 explicitly. Hopefully it has the same connection qualities.
Notice that they're referring to the US Snapdragon model, which uses an all new X65 modem. It's unclear how the Exynos model performs. If the Exynos modem is anything like the modem in the Pixel 6 Pro, reception might just be good instead of great.

Hope this isnt the case...my oneplus 7t pro had better reception than my s21 ultra and hoped with the s22u this will change :/
Early opinion of the Exynos S22 Ultra is that mobile data throughput is not significantly different to Exynos S21 series and Pixel 6 Pro modem. It may be slightly more balanced in low signal areas though - one bar performance is a bit more 'consistent'.
A new modem was my main reason for upgrading. I'll testing performance against a S10+ tomorrow, which will be interesting. The S10+ outperforms the Exynos S21 Ultra with 4G, consistently.
So I've got a Snapdragon S22U/512GB, and it def seems like the phone performs better in low service environments vs my old Note 10+ 5G
So easy to lie online

Max brightness is bad for the mobile in many regards. Problem 1 is burn in, problem 2 is high battery usage, problem 3 is heat. The snapdragon alone gets very hot, plus full brightness makes a hot mobile. Try to use adaptive brightness for better battery life and better burn in protection.
And consider a Spigen Cryo Armor for better heat dissipation.

previously with the 888 variant headt was an issue but after some software updates heat issues fixed.
I consider to purchase this variant as snapdragon always get better performance than eksynos,
Your variant is S908E/DS?
Do you have dual sim and esim support like eksynos S908B/DS ?
Can you tell me if Greek language is included with fully supported Greek menu (not just added not in all apps after)

previously with the 888 variant headt was an issue but after some software updates heat issues fixed.
I consider to purchase this variant as snapdragon always get better performance than eksynos,
Your variant is S908E/DS?
Do you have dual sim and esim support like eksynos S908B/DS ?
Can you tell me if Greek language is included with fully supported Greek menu (not just added not in all apps after)
thanks
regards

I have to disagree with the claim that the SD888 issue fixed with software updates. Over a year later, my S21U SD888 is literally always running warm - ranges from 34-39C while using it for literally anything - phone calls, reading text, IG, YouTube, browsing, etc. The only way to keep my S21U not warm is by not using it at all. Sucks that Samsung is just ignoring this.

I can confirm my s21 ultra also suffers from heat issues. Tested it by recording in 4k and 8k, got the dreaded phone is hot message after only 5 mins in.
This is with all updates, it still has issues.
