After having a duff sd slot on my original surface my replacement arrived today, all good, left it doing updates and installing my apps for a while, all was well, or so I thought..
The keyboard is now not responding after a while, connected, works, close the cover, open it again, screen doesn't come on, press power button screen comes on, keyboard not responding, close cover, screen stays active, disconnect keyboard and reconnect it and it works again..
Had a quick look through the settings and there's nothing I can see that relates to keyboard sleep or power management..
Tried it on my old surface and its fine :\
Wondering if anyone has seen or heard anything similar, otherwise another tech chat with support tomorrow...
You might want to try rebooting the new Surface, and make sure the connection port where the cover links up is clean, but otherwise I don't know what would cause that problem. I've had cases where the cover wasn't recognized, but disconnecting and reconnecting it fixed that.
Only issue I ever have with the cover is if I remove it while the tablet is sleeping and when it wakes it thinks it is still attached.
It's been rebooted many times so dont think its that, had a poke thru device managet last night and looked for power saving stuff but nothing relavant..
Connectors are all clean and it works in the old Surface.. :/
Maybe the keyboards just missing the tablet it came with lol
Still nothing, hard reset, power offs nothing, have now noticed that the edges of the touch cover are peeling apart at the corners so might get this replaced as well, so far the support guys have been spot on, the device however while really promising just lacks finish :\

Two options....
1. Return the cover..
2. Bring your surface bad cover to Microsoft store and let them figure out what is wrong...
I am very happy with my surface and the touch cover...
I have a 5 second delay sometimes when opening and closing. Otherwise, ref let msft know

I've had 2 bad units now, don't think its the cover as it worked on the first surface before I returned it.
I'll get onto surface support when they are back, I don't seem to be able to raise a ticket on the new unit, touch cover might end up going back as well at this rate...

I've had the same issue with the type cover. Sometimes it works fine throughout. Other times it seems to fall asleep until an adjustment is made.
I've caught the connection off by a few millimeters at times (although that doesn't explain why the initial connection would work), but you can look and check for that as well.
From now on I'll simply restart from the Power button without removing the connection to see if it's really a 100% mechanical issue.
Ha I've had all of these problems you've named
On Live Chat with support now, the MS forums seem to suggest a reset, I've tried it a few times tho, will see if they will fire out another cover..
Right, cover is being swapped out on AR as well now, hope they hurry up and take the hold off the card though, the hold is for more than it would cost to actually buy the bloody thing new again..
hello,
i've got a samsung galaxy note 3 N9005 and have a serious problem. i use my phone with the original cover and the original s view wireless cover.
in february i noticed that when opening my wireless cover the screen wouldnt turn on. serveral days later the problem was so bad that when i got screen on after 5 minutes and maybe the possibility to answer a call the screen wouldnt turn on after the call. screen remained black. i had to pull the battery out of the phone and then restart it. in one after noon of work i had to do this everytime i wanted to make or receive a call and up to 15 times. although the screen is not turned on it uses a huge amount of the battery.
i send my phone for repair. first time they repaired a part of it. what part i dont know and they did a software update. after 2 weeks the problems came back. i resend it to the repeair center. and when they received it the screen didnt turn on. they couldnt repair the phone because it wouldnt turn so they did a software update and send it back because they couldnt notice the fault.
then after 2 weeks the problem came back and i searched the internet and found a way to test the proximity sensor because i thougt that was the problem. i checked it by using the code *#0*# and then click sensor. and indeed there was a problem. when i covered the sensor with my finger the screen went green and keep trilling meaning that something covered the sensor. but when removing my finger from the sensor the screen kept trilling and stayed green. so i knew i had a problem with my sensor.
i send it a third time with the info to check the sensor (it came so far that i had to tell the repair service what to do). the device came back, a part was repaired and a software update. but now the day after the problem came back and even worse.
i'm now using a backup device and when i charge my note 3 a whole night and the day after it's just in standby mode. at the end of the day around 7-8 PM the battery is at 3-4%.
i mailed and called samsung but they want me to send it for a fourth time to a different repair service for a second opinion and then they will decide what to do next.
are there other people who experience the same problems?
i'm a huge samsung fan because i got the samsung galaxy camera, note 3, gear but i'm getting very angry with them.

Your motherboard needs a replacement. Lazy technicians are just wiping and reflashing software. Shoot samsung a mail in your region and tell them the amount you invested to buy a fone has gone to crap. Be firm and explain them the things in detail. By now a layman should know your proximity sensor is kaput (common problem with samsung devices., had the same issue with my sii, s4 )
Mate, the rule of warranty, at least in Oz, is 3 times and it is REPLACED.... No more repairs, you get a new item...
As this has been sent back 3 times I'd stipulate this, it needs replacement, not fixing otherwise you get consumer affaira, or relevant agency, in on the action.......

The "blackout" problem you are experiencing could be caused by some apps that you have installed on your phone. Perhaps you can try to remove your SD Card (if any) and do a factory reset to see whether the issue persists. I have a friend who works in a samsung service centre, and he informed me that usually the technician will first do a software reset/reflash/upgrade and they will do a check to see whether the issue reported persist. If not, nothing else will be done.

Good luck with Samsung. I haven'd had anything from them that even remotely qualifies as good service. Sad.....but unfortunately true. Australia is especially crap when it comes to service.
Hi
My S7 got damaged as back and recent apps capacitive buttons have started malfunctioning and phone behaves as if both are constantly pressed...
This happened after i tried to record a video under water (1 foot depth, 15s duration), while it had front/back protectors and full body protection through a cover which had audio jack and usb port plugs as well. I can safely say the pressure and time were both within limits of IP68 but the phone still couldn't handle it.
Can you suggest possible rectifications steps or suggestions to make phone usable again
Thanks
Let it completely dry out and don't use it whilst doing so!
Samsung has used internal coating of parts to prevent lasting water damage rather than seals.
Your problem likely occurred by using the hard buttons whilst the phone was still wet.
My guess is it should be fine if you are patient enough.

thanks, i have tried to dry it as much as possible and now put in a bowl of rice as per internet wisdom waiting for a positive outcome...
secondly, would you know of any option to disable these capacitive buttons and enable android navigation bar without root?

Sorry no but others may do.
Good luck
Water Damage
I also have the same problem. My Galaxy S7 starts to behave like the Recent Apps capacitive button is pressed constantly. It's very frustrating because my phone was barely dipped in the water for just a few seconds trying to take an underwater selfie.
I had a Galaxy S5 before and I always had no issues taking my phone into the pool. I think Samsung had a better job making the S5 water-resistant than the S7. Very frustrating because S5 performs well having only IP67 rating than the S7's rating of IP68.
I tried heating the capacitive buttons hoping the moisture would dry up and putting it inside a closed container full of rice, but no luck. My phone is just 4 months old. Job well done Samsung! Really!!

wow, seems like this is a common problem then, how are u managing to use the phone?
i will share update tonight as the phone would be in rice for 48hrs which should be enough to dry out any moisture, but seeing your comment i no longer have high hopes
My phone is unusable as the Recent Apps will always pop-out rapidly. I don't want to get my phone repaired as opening the phone would void its "water-resistance." Yeah, it's not even water-resistant tho.
Is there a way to deactivate the capacitive buttons? If there is, are there any mods for this?
Give me some updates bro after 48 hours. Thanks!

there's another thread where people have posted solutions to this problem, though its mostly for people having this issue out of the blue without anything to do with water...
one is to factory reset/install updates
second is install an app to disable button lights
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66129442&postcount=90
third is to install another app and change button actions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66123403&postcount=89
i am going to try above solutions one by one in case phone doesn't recover, you should try and check as well
Problem persists [emoji20]

I have this problem too: after brief water exposure both capacitive buttons stopped lighting and responding. Tried rice, heat, time - nothing worked. Everything else about the phone works fantastically. So going to attempt a repair next. Have looked at the ifixit teardown, having a hard time figuring out if I need to replace the screen\digitizer (meaning, the capacitive functions are built into the glass there), or the modules with the LEDs underneath (which don't seem to be readily available parts online anywhere), or something else. Anyone have any knowledge on how these two buttons interface and work and what the potential issue might be?

Well your problem is different from mine as my phone's recent apps button was continuously pressed and I had to disable it
Maybe you can try root+xposed+good lock to have on screen navigation bar...?
Hope someone here can help you with the hardware fix. Do share update whatever the outcome

Hi All
Has anyone had any issues with a black screen?
Everything else works like incoming calls and notifications but the screen it totally black!
Woke up early hours last night and noticed no AOD so tried to turn my phone on but the screen was just dead. Tried the volume and power button but still no joy
Power it down completely then plug in the charger.
If nothing shows on the screen it sounds like you lost some significant hardware... maybe just a connector.

Same happened to my SM-N9860 unit when I woke up today. I about to unlock and the display suddenly went black screen. Did everything but no luck. I am also sure it's the display that's f***d up. The phone is still working - I can still access it in Dex and Link to Windows. This is my second Samsung phone with f**d up display for unknown reason. This is crap Samsung. Not expecting for this from an expensive flagship smartphone. I swear this is the last.

By the way, how did you fix your phone?
I tried searching it on the net, seems a number of Note 20 ultra units are experiencing the same.

Seems that display replacement is the only fix.

Poor parts QC.
Samsung will substitute components and smaller chipsets in the middle of a production run. This can lead to unpredictable behavior especially after firmware updates... or outright failures like this.
Not reassuring especially with a flagship phone.

hi im facing exact same thing in my N986 B Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. I had 10 percent battery left. i had put phone on charge and saw after 20 minutes and tghe screen was black.
Now its blackscreen can connect with tv via hdmi dex mode
but phone restarts after 10 minutes.
the touch seems fine as mouse function works phone is on but no display
can you tell exactly what you did when your phone revieved after one day
did u keep it on. charge all tiime tried reset or removed charging
or nothing and tried after 1 day
Edit After 24 hours of tapping slappingrebooting installing stock firmware. my display came back alive.
last thing was i was using phone in dex mode and trying to open close camera app rapidly by direct touch on screen. i dont know what worked but it saved my 300 dollars of screen replacement
I have exactly the same issue.
I was typing on whatsapp when suddenly screen get black. It was on friday morning. Notifications were ok, voice commands too. Touchscreen ok, I could use it normally when using my TV as screen with HDMI cable or with my notebook, when connected to windows or even Dex.
One day earlier I had an issue with the new magisk update. I freeze magisk manager wich was force closing but later, I managed to reinstall with dex and was working fine. Not sure if it's related.
I already flashed fresh stock Android R rom, wich I thought would solve any issues related to magisk or any other software issue.
24h after flash stock rom and keep force rebooting and taping, and my display is still dead.
Tried to tap, slap, shake (I can her some noise next to camera module when shaking, is it normal? I took off S-pen and microsd tray to see if it was the cause, but the noise still persists). No damage, water, or anything else. Only 2 months of use.
Display is still dead.
I'm draining battery now with some apps that also vibrate phone, to see what happens when full drained.
I live in Manaus/Brazil and repair centers are not working until March 23 because of Sars-CoV2. And my knox is tripped. It would cost a lot If I have to replace display or even the phone, since they probably will say it's no longer covered by warranty.
Any tips are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Hope I have that lucky as well.
It happened to me again today. Surprisingly, a strong knock at center of the screen revived it again.

Not good if there's a recall... crap QC is getting to be a bad Samsung habit.
Those of you with BSOD issues: Did you have intermittent wifi connectivity issues as well? My N20U had the 'connected to wifi AP but no internet' for the last month. Then today after unplugging the OEM charger, checking charge level, never picking the phone up from the desk, and returning to it 30 minutes later the BSOD had hit. No amount of hard restarts or waiting fixed it and it had to get shipped back. Just wondering if there is any correlation between the wifi issue and the screen going out, and if people should start sending their note in ASAP if the wifi problem occurs before the screen goes?
hello
i had the same problem (didn't have any Wifi issues before)
and after the screen went black for 2 day , it came back and worked for a few hours.. then went off again and Never came back
i tried everything, resets , cables , connecting to Dex or Hdmi , updating.. but Never worked
i went to Samsung and they said screen must be replaced ( will pay for it as i am out of warranty)
can you tell me what have you done or if anything worked for you?
My screen went black after a screen replacement. Only the front glass was broken not the digitizer or actual screen. From what I can tell it's not just the screen that's dead, it's the digitizer too. The S-Pen board underneath it all isn't even registering. When I plug it in the computer doesn't see it so Dex won't connect and there is no signal for HDMI to work. Had the USB port replaced just to be sure it wasn't a bad port.
It's like some one took the graphics card out of a computer and took the touch screen monitor. The phone still gets signal. It connected to my smart Fossil watch and I could answer calls and texts.
But the phone is 9 months old. And from what I've heard from parts distributors it's not the screen that's the issue. So now I have a new motherboard. Now I have to figure out how to program it....
One day last week when i pulled my S Pen out, nothing happened.
I tried to write on the screen, nothing happened. I thought it ran out of battery, but it's always inside my phone, and battery is only used for air actions, as touch input is made magnetically.
The pen was always inside my phone, and yet it randomly prompted me "Got your S Pen? It's not inside your phone"
Then it started working again but partially, it detects when i pull it out of the phone and put it back in, but touch input is horrible and it doesn't connect wirelessly
This is weird, do any of you ever experencied something like this on S22 Ultra ?
I have never experienced something like this, only thing related happened with my note 7, the spen lagged when writing, in that case it was the spen, I bought another one and that solved the issue, with my note 10+, agter 2 years, it suddenly stopped working for air actions, but again, it was the s pen's fault, as it no longer charged, I sugest you to take your device to be checked under warranty claim
I haven't experienced it either. I suspect the pen is at fault.
Experienced that, because I dropped my phone so much times, that it wasn't operating correctly. Repaired it with warranty and bought new S Pen sadly...
