Hello, use the adaptive reflresh rate mode and it remains constant at 120 Hz no changing. Is that so with you?

it is working just not very good. it needs much more optimisation to be effective

"We have an in-house app that reads the current resolution and refresh rate as reported by Android and overlays it on the screen for us to keep an eye on. Apparently, the Note20 Ultra will base its choice of refresh rate on a number of factors, and we can't claim that what will follow is an exhaustive list."

when I read a book it stands at 60 hz. It should have been less

It's exciting to think though that they CAN enhance their algorithms for what does what via software updates and make the battery life on this phone much better!

Yeah... but it irks that several much needed hotfixes and performance related updates arrive much after the flagship's retail release. That's not how it should be. By the time it becomes ripe, the next flagship from Samsung arrives.

I always complain about something, imagine how I scrutinize every bit

It's heavily based on ambient light. My screen won't drop from 120 unless I'm in a well lit room or outside in the sun.

This isn't a good news for batterylife atleast, especially for the Exynos.
Wondering tweaking further would make VRR work as expected or not pushed via future updates!

so, the silver lining is that the battery performance can only improve, can hardly be worse than now, as the Samsung fixes the issue with vrr etc

What would you like to see in the Mate 10?

I would like it to get ip68 rating, even bigger screen with bigger battery, better software, much better low light camera with f1.7 and larger pixels, better DAC and better stereo speaker that don't have distortion on highest volume.
I'd like to see them fix the problems with the Mate 9 first. Otherwise I'll be going back to Samsung.
Less bezel with the same screen size, wireless charging, and battery life as good as the Mate 8 was.

Go back to 6 inch screen. Qhd with 4000ish mAh battery. Switch to AMOLED even if they stick with 1080p.
Make the regular yearly upgrades to the specs.

Really?? I came from an S7 Edge AND a Note 4 and I think this phone is better for my purposes with no problems for me, albeit wanting IP98 certification and fast focus camera [yes, S7 had these but I was willing to forgo for other features]

I can't speak from experience, as I don't own one ATM.
I don't know what RR-99 is speaking about, but In align with his comment, the one reason I have not purchased this phone so far is the apparent issues with the GPS.
Regarding everyone wanting water proof capability, I would NOT trade an SD slot for that. I have a habit of avoiding water with my phones. I realize accidents happen...and did have my experience with a device in a toilet in the early days, so I am almost paranoid in my water avoidance.
The other thing I would like to see is 6gb ram. I know the pro has that, but it is smaller, and doesn't have the fingerprint sensor on the back. I like that. I did try a LG V20 for a while and came to really love that feature.
Oh...one other thing I'd like to see is an unlocked version that works on both GSM and CDMA. I would like to be able to go to a different carrier w/o need to purchase a different phone.

Doubt xda speaks for the majority.
Fan boy aside, I haven't experienced those issues. But then again I don't use social media apps.
pure nexus experience
less huawei bloatware, iaware is disgusting, so is the rest of their software that clutter this phone unnecessarily.
edit: also, maybe huawei should hire a ton of linux experts to tweak the android OS for performance
theres alot of tunables that can be modified for a better experience (i.e journaling, noatime, f2fs partitions, etc)
Bigger screen definitely. 5.9" feels small. Bigger battery or otherwise better battery life, though I seem to survive for about 3-4 days on a single charge, so it's okay as it is.
For the Mate 10 I wish no pre installed apps from Cheetah Mobile and/or Kingsoft (parent company).

Oh, looks like what I meant came out wrong. The 3-4 days are already amazing and I've never owned a smartphone with this good battery life before, but of course I keep hoping for improvement. I hope now I'm being clear enough. :good:
I would like to have not any problems with flashing - ROMs without Authentication, easy rebranding.
It would be great if Huawei will cancel their freaking desire to localize useful things:
- dark interface for all models, not for AMOLED only
- ability to hide navigation keys (not for Chinese firmware only)
- double tap 2 wake (not for a few devices only)

Hi Nick
As you have both devices is it worth the upgrade from the U11 to the Plus? Apart from the almost edge to edge display which brings it in line with most of the current flagships, the rest are pretty similar and it'll be even closer one the U11 gets Oreo.
But I do like HTC and the pricing is competitive and it's a really nice phone.

Hi Wil,
I also look forward to Nick's comments, but i thought I'd jump in and give you my 2 cents, seeing as I also have both the U11 and U11+ now.
At the end of the day, value is a subjective thing, and, if you already own a U11, it is probably not going to be considered great value to upgrade to the U11+. That being said, I did it anyway. Here are my thoughts on the comparo.
Pros:
The U11+'s screen and speaker combination is a dream, especially if you watch a lot of videos. The colours on the SLCD are lovely and punchy, whilst being natural. The speakers are great, even shareable in moderately noisy environments
The U11+'s shape is much easier to handle than the U11, has the rounded back but straighter sides and a flatter front makes for a firmer hold.
Front camera is better. just is.
Oreo - Although U11 rollout is also starting, so many of the features are available soon.
Cons:
Oreo - there is a new notification for apps running in background. thats irking me.
Lack of accessories so far.
Its only my second full day, so jury is still out on batter performance, but it is better than U11. question is how much better.
Yeah l agree it's definitely better overall but how much better and would it be an upgrade upwards or just a sideways upgrade.

What do you think of the battery vs the U11 now it's been a bit longer? I've got the 2 XL and am loving the phone despite the issues others have had but the huge battery on this phone (and cheaper price) make this very tempting

Hey there,
So, for me, its not been an apples vs apples comparison, as my U11 was on LeeDroid, which had a lot of battery optimisations, plus enabled VoLTE on my network, which allowed the phone to stay on LTE rather than switch to 3G for calls, etc. So my U11 was "optimised" for a lack of a better expression.
Through long term monitoring on GSAM, my U11 would give 3.5 hours of SOT and 12.5 hours of standby on a full charge.
Using GSAM now, my + is lasting 4h45m SOT with 17h31m standby. So, significantly more, but I rekon there's more to gain when HTC updates the firmware with further optimisations or when Devs have good ROMS ready.
Good Thread and i am hoping to jump on HTC wagon again after touch pro and Mate HD (forgot the name) Been using Sammy after that note 2 and now S6. Question i have is it too big or hand feel ratio feels better. I know from S6 it would be feel big hopefully similar or smaller than S8+. Note 8 is too big and pricey for my liking.
Second and most importantly would be battery. I know its early days but i just want it to last me a day at least. I generally use for work and clash of clan games. Mostly indoors but at times i am travelling thats when i want it to hopefully last 1 full day. I would be interesting to know more about the battery tests.
TIA.

Cheers mate! I would say I'm a little disappointed but I'm guessing you leave everything on (Wifi, LTE, BT, etc) given that you only get 3.5hrs with the U11? Just reading around the subforum for that phone, it seems others can get pretty impressive battery life for a 3Ah battery.
When the phone is sleeping, can you double tap it to wake it without picking it up? That means without triggering the motion sensors. This worked wonderfully well when I had a pixel XL earlier this year and I would love to see it on the u11+ as I already pre-ordered it.

Yeah, depends on usage pattern, but mine on u11 is ~6hrs of SOT and ~1d 9h standby.

That's really too bad, especially without the fingerprint scanner on the front. Hopefully a custom kernel will add it in the future, although I don't expect there will be a lot of development for this device.

Double tap to wake works on htc devices w/o motion sensing from htc 10 times. The other person is wrong. It worked on my U11 too whilst I had it. I'm sure it's present.
You don't need any custom rom. And you have nothing to worry about.

Your screenshot calls it a motion launch gesture and it tells you to pick up the phone first before you double tap to wake it. Doesn't leave much room for doubt does it? Hope you're right though ?

Like I said, I've used it. It works if the device is flat on any surface. Just need that option checked. I'd think the double tap is read as motion?
If you see other options in that setting, it's things like swipe down twice to launch camera. I'm pretty sure you don't need to lift the device to do that. So yeah.

yeah i cant now, but thats a good point
what's not to like.
i have snapdragon. advertised at 45w charging, but that max it' charging is at 31w.
that's why 45w charging is only a few minutes faster than 25w cus it only charging at 31w
but it' still better than a phone advertised as 25w charging.
SD, voted yes but battery could be better, though I don't have an awful battery life my S20 Ultra did perform much better battery wise, camera is slightly better than s20 Ultra for sure, performance is great as expected from this phone.
SD here and very happy
Will be interested how this vote goes. I too am very happy with mine and so is my wife. In all the posts about being unhappy many are saying 30% of people are unhappy or have major issues. Really think that is a number pulled out of their ass. I do not think there are a lot of posts from individuals that are happy, they just read what is posted. So, the bad posts are skewed in numbers. Let's see how this goes.
yeah i myself am very happy, i have the 85% limit set on my battery, and do a lot of heavy usage and im very happy with mine, mine is exynos 512/12. im using httrack, and google and dropbox autosync pretty much 24 hours a day in the background while also video editing and i dont notice any lag at all
SD and a like from me (love is a strong word) only negative for me is the sharp corners and wider body compared to S21U though somehow S22U feels lighter maybe better weight distribution. Speed, fluidity and battery are great for me.
There have been many more exynon users that have been unhappy with performance, but a lot have 128 models. Also, since the latest firmware update, many of those are now happy with the performance. Just goes to show you.

I have the 256 version and I'm unhappy, especially with the battery life.
The lag was somehow solved after the latest April update, but the battery life is still awful...
so the consensus is, by, yes or no votes, that more than two thirds of people are happy with thier s22 ultra
I'm really liking my Galaxy S22 Ultra so far (coming from an iPhone 13 Pro). The only thing that bothers me is the mediocre battery life.
I have done everything to debloat and clean the device via ADB and I'm also using the Galaxy max Hz app to limit the screen refresh rate to 10Hz in certain situations.
Limiting background usage helps as well and I have turned off things like automatic synchronization in Gmail and other apps.
Now, the device consumes way less battery power when being used/ in standby and I am satisfied with the results.

At this point, it appears by the yes/no votes that 80%+ are happy with their S22 ultra. Not a huge sample size, however, I think for the most part that people perusing this forum are looking to fix/improve their S22u in some manner. Therefore, I think the real number of people happy is in the 90%+ range.
i also think a factor to consider is that computing power increases faster than battery technology and people are wanting better processors but also complaining when the battery used to power it isnt sufficient and samsung are having to battle battery power verses computing power , i remember back in the early days of android when devices limited camera and processing power to increase battery life, setting camera to like 90% and the cpu governor was ondemand/interactive, its gonna be better once we have some custom kernels and cpu/gpu overiding, i myself am willing to sacrifice battery life for computing power, i mean we all have power banks nowadays anyway
If this were a forum for a true Note phone, the percentages would be different. My vote was No, my previous device (Note 10+) was better.

Question I returned my 256gb S22 Ultra for a 512gb S22 Ultra and the 512gb is so much more laggy

I have to send back my 256gb ultra by the 22nd, but I need to figure out why its performing so much better. I basically just did smart switch to transfer over to the 512gb phone. The 512gb phone takes literally 5 seconds to open messages and when I am scrolling down in messages, I just keep seeing the same ones over and over again. (The 256 version just scrolls through like butter with literally the same messages). When I activated the new one online, the IMEI showed up on the sprint/T-Mobile website as a burgundy 128gb version when it is actually a sky blue 512gb version. Any ideas what I can compare before having to send one or both of these back? Also, I traded in my Note 10+. Do they ever send back your trade-in?
Lol, I take the N10+ over the S22... in fact I have done just that, got my second N10+ 9 months ago. Solid, dependable, gorgeous work horses that can take the heat.
They may send either one back... dig into them.
Internal memory size isn't a factor, something else is causing the lag. That's not a lag that's more like being trapped in an event horizon
256gb with no expandable storage isn't very much storage space...
yeah get it swapped for a different model, something seems off with ur 512 model

No settling needed. Could try clearing the system cache. Turn off adaptive battery and such. Set display power mode to optimized or the S22U equivalent.
This series is having a lot of issues.
When I choose to restore 100+ apps from a google drive backup the device lags and gets hot AF. I put it down and come back a few hours later and it's fine. That's always been my experience. If I want to play around (aka instant action) just skip backup/transfer and play and it's usually fine.

Some might say a slow S22u is normal, but you already know it is not. Some might say, there is a processor lottery (maybe, but not that extreme).
I would say you copied a lot of (media-)data to the new phone and huge indexes need to be created now at once. In my case especially the Media Storage Service runs a lot when I add data and do not block scanning with ".nomedia".
You should see this in your battery statistics. If so, your S22u will run much better when the index creation is finished.

I used smart switch coming from my N10+ to the 256gb version, and I don't think the messages app was ever slow. Full disclosure, I didn't set the new messages app as default for a couple of days because I wasn't sure what the difference was. Does everyone have 2 messages apps, or is that because I did smart switch? Both of my S22s currently have 2 messages apps full with texts.

Does everyone have 2 messages apps, or is that because I did smart switch? Both of my S22s currently have 2 messages apps full with texts.

SmartSwitch may be the problem. Try doing a clean reload without it (sorry).

You didn't own the s22 ultra in the first place. I see you spend a lot of time on the pixel forums too even though you haven't owned one. If you like your phone so much why are you on all these other phone forums instead?
turn of "optimizer" and turn on 120hz

Agree on the "internal memory size not being a factor"...

You never did take my thermal challenge... 98.6 here now and the battery is running at 2-5F above ambient, with a case, no cooling.

Sorry to the others, a bit off-topic.
Have you ever asked me for a thermal challenge? But the challange would be between devices, not people. Do you have both devices?
What I now did: A N10 and a S20u set to manual brightness. Put them on a sofa cushion next to each other, one hour no usage, no load. Noted the battery temperatures (in °C). Then Opera browser, youtube page, same video FullHD for 12 Minutes, .
1st try:
27,8 to 30,1 delta 2,3 (S22u)
26,9 to 29,5 delta 2,6 (N10)
2nd:
27,5 to 30,0 delta 2,5 (S22u)
27,0 to 30,5 delta 3,5 (N10)
We can see the temperature sensors have an offset of about 0,5-0,9 K and the older device is heating-up a bit more.

Back on topic.
Absolutely. The 256 GB and 512 GB have the same RAM size and I would say no one blamed the ROM itself.
Maybe Ssamboy will give an update.

They have been hating on the S22U since the beginning. Same old tired narrative, again and again. It's old BH go troll somewhere else.

I mean there are some of us who do own this phone, I've had it since April, and I find that apps like Twitter and Reddit scroll lagging as completely unacceptable. Regardless of how unoptimized basic apps are from the developer side, they're literally two of the most popular apps on the PlayStore and I am unhappy with a $1900 phone here in Australia (for the 256Gb 12Gb RAM Snapdragon variant I bought in April) lags doing the most basic tasks, when I could have got an iPhone 13 Pro Max and not had these issues, at least with basic apps, I wouldn't have liked it as much as my Android phone, since I prefer and love the customisation on Android, but at least the basic apps which I spend the majority of my free time will work without issues.
I didn't even buy it at release and it took them until June to fix the camera taking quick shots issue.
This idea of sucking-off these big companies, regardless of who they are, needs to stop. I don't care if you're a fan. There are people who have this phone or have had this phone for a while and still facing issues with it.
Sure, there is no perfect phone out there, but asking for basic optimization and better support for these devices shouldn't be discouraged. Samsung needs to do better.
I don't do twitter but I can confirm that the Reddit app is absolute garbage. Just look at the reviews on Google Play for confirmation.
It's not the phone, it's the app(s).
Coming from a Oneplus 8 Pro here, which was about as fast a device as you could get (even now). I do have the S22 Ultra 512gb variant and I can say that it feels about how I thought it would. Nothing can really compare to Oxygen OS, pre Android 12 IMO, but the Ultra feels fast enough.
I used smartswitch coming over, but I did clear cache in recovery for good measure. I am running 120hz and 1440p rez on optimized battery settings.
I don't experience any heat from it aside from situations where I know I would, like 95 degrees outside walking with the screen on max brightness using google maps, something like that.
I made all animations .5 as usual and turned off part of the app transitions in settings. It feels like it should. I use Twitter and the Reddit app. No lag on reddit flying through the homescreen with multiple app reloads at the bottom.
I have a bunch of complaints about this phone but nothing like is in this thread.

I would kill animations completely... a waste of resources that adds no useful functionality.
See what's behind the mask.
With that 4nm chipset and 12gb* of ram it better be fast. The burning question is how much mAh's is it using to do this?
Waste heat is an invariable byproduct of operation, the more mAh's used, the more heat generated. And that is a problem once your average mAh usage goes over 400.
Can it be optimized to stay under 400 mAh?
I doubt it but it's pretty common for Samsung's to be hot running battery hogs until optimized.
There's definitely room for improvement with optimizing. Using over 500 mAh average is unacceptable. If you're getting 10 hr or less SOT that's exactly what it's doing. At a 750 mAh average thermal dissipative capacity becomes a real issue because it isn't sustainable.
The other question is how much is scoped storage adding to the load burden?
Probably a fair amount; Pixels even added a new chip to take up some of that extra needed processing. Not an encouraging sign.
At least on rooted devices it seems scoped storage can now be disabled in 12.
*the large 12gb of ram is more important for performance than the chipset speed to some extent. The 8gb variant doesn't hold up to multitasking near as well.

Question P7P is not powerful or efficient at all..

I know that pixels weren't made for gaming, but even the OnePlus sells for less and offers a better chip. And battery on the p7p is mediocre. Not sure if it is just me, but the p7p is just as worse as my p6p. Are you guys satisfied with your P7P or have buyers remorse?

What a ridiculous clickbait article. Dude says that out of the box performance was fine until he maxed out the settings and then it dropped. I mean duh? No **** Sherlock.
Getting tired of these kinds of posts to be honest. Just let us enjoy our phones. We are well aware that you don't like the phone... This is now the second time you have thrown the results from Golden Reviewer's testing in a post and this one is just pure clickbait. We saw the numbers the first time.
My experience has been great so far - frankly I'm not going to let some article outweigh my own personal experience. And if Pixels aren't made for gaming, who in their right mind would buy it for gaming? Of course they'd be disappointed..

Right? I think everyone knows the Pixel isn't a gaming focused device but it holds its own regardless. My OnePlus 9... Now THAT phone was an embarrassment for gaming... Even Unity games lagged.
Google isn't trying to build a performance phone. They aren't trying to build a phone that tops the benchmark charts with the fastest chip. They're trying to make a "smart" phone. That is what they are about. That is their niche.
And as far as performance goes, I've never once said to myself while using any Pixel I've owned, "Damn this phone is slow, I need it to be faster. I can't do anything with this thing". Performance is just fine for my needs and expectations.
True, everyone needs to stop reading and trusting articles these days. Check it out for yourself and make your own opinion on your findings.
Honestly I come from a OP 9pro. tmob rooted converted to global, and I have to say it was not a good phone, very glitchy, overheated all the time cam was meh and bat was worse.
These games are all optimized for Snapdragon chips and google falls 5 fps short to the s22 ultra. I call that a win actually
The pixel 7 pro can game just fine, and I'm very happy with it. I came from an oneplus 10 pro and even if the oneplus 10 pro has a faster chip, the Tensor g2 has better cooling and therefore have a more stable performance for a longer period of time when gaming.
And if I'm not mistaken, the snapdragon 888 gen 1 in the oneplus 10 pro, dosent run at full speed by default to avoid thermal throttling.

Yeah the 8 Gen 1 in the OP10P has the X1 core disabled by default. Same for the 888 in the OP9/9P. Meanwhile Tensor G2 packs two X1 performance cores and has no default throttling.
Sounds like pixels aren't meant for you my dude. Return it and go with a phone that'll make you happier! My P7P has fixed my gripes with the P6P and I'm happy. The biggest thing being the modem and heat.

I'll keep reading articles (and forums) and use common sense to cut through the chaff.
Seems like a lot of chaff out there (including forums).
I fell into this trap of articles and reviews as well. After a few days of this, I said f***k it, and ordered one today. I'm not a reviewer, I'm just a regular dude, so these "test" don't apply to me in the real world. And at the end of it all, if I don't like the device, I'll get rid of it and get something else.
I'm not doing benchmarks, and I know what to expect from this kind of chipset and I'm happy with P7P. I prefer features what you can do with P7P instead of high benchmark scores.
Playing games on phone is actually weird for me and I don't understand that. For that you have PCs and consoles. And playing games on Pixel? is there a way to say this politely? Probably not. Overall this is great device and I don't have any issue with performance when doing things this device was built for.

This, 100%.
OP, please stop these kinds of posts and sell the phone if you don't like it. I'm getting tired of seeing all this negativity here.
At first I was hesitant to get the P7P because of the hardware but then I realized that the hardware has little to do with the experience you have with the phone.
You don't buy a car solely because it has the highest number of power. The interior matters, the feel, and also how well it can utilize that power.
I haven't had any performance issues with this phone. Granted, I don't game, but just using the phone there are no hickups or frame drops, everything launches quickly, and it's responsive.
I feel the same about the pixel watch.. Reading all these articles it makes you think that these products are trash and outdated.
Just get the phone and try it out. You like it? Great. You don't? Then send it back.
If the fact of having the newest SoC is important, then these products might not be for you, until they improve.
I feel the same about high refresh displays for example. I'd never buy a phone which costs more than 500€ which didn't have a high refresh display. Yet most people don't care and buy 1150€ Apple phones which still use 60Hz displays.
I don't see as many people complaining about that.

Yeah, exactly. But they probably don't know, what they are missing. But once you try higher refresh rate, you don't want to go back
