I have a pretty good eye for these things--it looks to me that either Google or ASUS lowered the bit depth of most of their applications (even the OS) to 16-bit color.
I'll get a picture in a bit, since I can't find my camera off hand, but I noticed a particularly grainy quality now in the home screen and the browser (possibly not the Picture Viewer), whereas before, the color gradients seemed alot smoother.
The fastest way to see this issue (for those of you with 3.1) is to go to the Settings page, and go to "Privacy". Right above the "Reset Tablet" button, there's a color gradient that might be an easy-to-see example of what I'm talking about. Also, in general, every "gray" color now seems to have this 16-bit depth grain to it.
I'm thinking of rolling back to 3.0.1 just to prove that I'm not insane, but what does everyone else think? I'll post some pictures in a few minutes for everyone to see what I'm talking about.
i have good eyes everything looks the same to me. gunna have to prove your case on this one though.
As a photographer I keep LOTS of really high rez pics on the Transformer and I'm not really noticing any gradation in color tones across any of them. I hope this doesn't come off a flippant but I DID notice that my brightness was jacked way up after the update which would do all sorts of funny things to your gray's but if you changed that already not sure what else it could be.
I didn't notice anything BUT, i would kill for a way to tweak some of the display settings on this device. The colors in general are a little dull especially on low backlight settings. A contrast control and a color boost control would be amazing. Heck i'd even settle for a digital vibrance slider like nvidia has for their desktop cards. The colors are just a bit too muted for my taste.

Yea that would be awsome. A havker for samsung galaxy s was able to do it for the phone
For those of you who didn't know, there is an app you can install that will let you download Blacked out and Clear versions of Google Apps and other apps like WhatsApp, Twitter etc.
Visit here and download and install the TeamBlackOut Updater App, install it (it's an apk) then open the app and download whatever you want and install it. I've been using this for years and thought I'd share it. Please thank the developer there as well.

In my AMOLED years I used to love these black apps/themes, mainly to save battery and to show off the immense contrast of those screens.
Now, with LCD, and battery saving not being an issue anymore, I really enjoy the vibrant and colorful screen of the Mate 8.
So I find it a shame to use blacked/greyed/colorless themes But as with everyting: YMMV! :good:

Same here on LCD I prefer to have whites for the most part and darker grays on Amoled for the contrast and battery. However I don't quite like the look of the Settings app on the Mate 8 so I prefer it in darker color. As well as dark headers. The rest I want white. Visibility in dark apps is pretty bad outside on this phone. Not very bright screen.
Black backgrounds are the way to go. They are easier on your eyes, they are less likely to keep you awake at night from staring at a white screen and when you're laying in bed or in really low light when waking up they are worlds better to look at. I wish I could get rid of every white background on the entire phone.

It's been 4 months now I have bought this device, since last 2 months I'm facing this Display problem. I'm not sure what it's actually called but it's like double imaging effect!
When i use whatsapp, after exiting the app I see the whatsapp chatscreen everywhere like on the launcher-homescreen & while viewing videos etc. visible more on a grey background!
Youtube non-tilted orientation image is also seen in Sub-key option when i type *#0*# in the dialer to check display issue!
Also the status bar is burned-in & visible while viewing videos & under grey background!
I tried all sorts of Display pixel fixing Apps from the playstore but none worked! I hope this is a software issue & will be fixed with the Nougat update! I tried resetting my device also but the problem still persist!
Please share your knowledge, opinions & experience to help me out!
P.S :- The PLS IPS display of this phone is good for outdoors & natural color reproduction! But I wish Samsung would give an update for Display color mode settings like the S. Amoled phones have, where you can tweak the color balance according to your preference! The colors are dull on this display which I don't prefer!
Borderlight live wallpaper
This is an updated version of the original Borderlight found here. It's a live wallpaper that creates a thin colorful line on the edge of the display (hence the name), the new version also allows you to display a normal background image behind the edge highlight and darken/desaturate it when the device is locked/unlocked.
There is no real way to programatically get the shape of the display in Android, so I did the next best thing and created a preset system, where users can tweak the wallpaper for their phone and then share their preset with others.
I need your help!
See this post for details
Update 2/24/2019:

Great work dev!
Settings for OnePlus 6 with very thin border

For Dark Wallpapers :
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1Pd-Dz4sRZnK1BEvI2-OCp7iL6Aaciath
My HUMBLE suggestions :
1) An option for wallpaper slideshow.
2) Custom wallpapers with the same effects ( like oem logo, geometric shapes, popular shapes etc with minimalism in mind).
3) Option to change colors (or add different gradients, custom color combinations).
4) Presets of popular Phones built in ( Can add from trusted users)
5) Option to enable just a single beam of light (which doesn't cover the whole border).
6) Toggle for; only on notification/lockscreen/charging etc
7) Different patterns\animations for cycle like pulse, fade, etc ( rather than linear motion).
8) Option to change the direction( clockwise or anticlockwise).
9) Always on display.
10) An option to store and load different Presets
These are all SUGGESTIONS and NOT requests.
You have done a Great job in making this app so lite and minimalistic. Once again THANK YOU for keeping the app ad free !! :good:
This new update was all I was waiting for, awesome job with the custom image!
Sent from my OnePlus A6003
Awesome, great, too good!!
Can there be one more setting?
Seperate border size for left/right and top/bottom, u must be aware of black border tempered glass for oneplus 6 covering the sides of screen. If this setting can be implemented then this problem of tempered glass would be solved.
Awesome! The background image I select won't stay in portrait and I can't resize it, but the border is perfect on my Pixel 3 XL! Here's my present, I made sure it was perfect:

That's weird, I did not add an option to crop the image, but it should definitely stay in portrait . Maybe you could try cropping the image to your screen resolution beforehand?
BTW: The images work like this: If the image resolution is smaller than your screen, it will just get placed in the center of the screen, kinda like a logo. And if it's larger, the full vertical center portion of the wallpaper will be used (sides will be chopped off to make the correct aspect ratio).
Does this work on Oppo F9?
Thank you,man

I'm not sure tbh, you can try and if you won't be able to adjust it to the teardrop, I'll make a new version that will allow it.
Great
Looks great works on my 5T
great wallpaper
Great update! Its qorking perfectly with no bugs, i have one request, if you can add a wallpaper cropper, that would make it the best live wp, great work!
Wonderful!! I agree with the other suggestions about being able to crop any picture. Next step is offering a paid version. Or at least a donate option. Your hard work deserves it.

The app is not supposed to recognize your phone, you should open the settings and disable the notch there.
Wow. This is amazing. Perfect on 3XL. How do you get it to work on lockscreen? I selected both at initial start and it only shows black screen on lock now..
Thank you for your work.
Does not work on my Jiayu S3A with MAD OS OREO 8.1.0
Amazing. Thanks for this.
Using it on my Vivo Nex full screen... Wonderful. Keep the good work going.
Looks nice but I'd like to use it with my current bg. However I can't seem to find the settings. There is only a big activate button in the app. No options to import or edit settings. Do I miss something? OP6.
Delete. Me
Hi,
I recently upgraded to pie by installing the Alexis Rom. It runs smooth but I've noticed the following which I can't make changed to like I could in Oreo and Nougat,
I don't have much control on full screen apps. Some games I play now look over stretched. The opportunity to make this but a full screen app isn't highlighted so I can't change it.
Also the navigation bar won't go away on certain apps especially if I'm watching video content in apps. Before pie there was an option for me to lock it to the screen or not.
Can anyone confirm if I can make the changes I need? I surely can't be the only person who finds this annoying.
Thanks
SAMSUNG also effed up the camera.
1. They removed dedicated video recording button.
2. They removed pro mode from video recording
Game tools
1. Can't change frame rates and resolution etc.
Very bad move by Samsung.
I feel everything is half baked.
So they've removed the features I mentioned above as well then?
Several things missing in pie. I do hope they get added in the next patch though. Most annoying issue I have now is auto brightness not remembering what I prefer. It keeps setting it very dark in low light. I'm constantly putting it back to around the middle. Sticking it isn't an option because in sunlight I need it to go way up.
Icons are ugly with the white templates etc etc.
