It didn't happen after a update.
it didn't happen after a drop.
it happened in the middle of use.
No cell towers, no 4g, everything is on, what I read is people only being able to fix this with a factory reset, I would seriously like to avoid that. I am rooted with TWRP.
worse case scenario, what do I need to do before factory resetting with root?

Hello,
I am tyring to figure out if there is a better trouble shooting method that I can try or not.
I have a friend that does not want to really root her phone or not but trying to help.
Had a one s that was having problems randomly loosing signal and only coming back when screen is lit up but that was it.
Had the phone replaced for that and not being on current software.
The new phone she got no longer has signal issues but will randomly reboot on its own when not being used.
Seems to be mainly when away from home. At home been on and off wifi but only every rebooted once that way compared to over 5 times away from home and the phone is only a week old.
When we got the replacement we used carbon to back up the apps that were installed on the phone and restore those on the new phone as that was the only backup app that would do data without root.
Since it happened twice within the last two hours going to try and master reset it and not restore with that program and just manually install the apps she wants like swype and only the stuff really needed and leave off games and stuff.
But is there any other methods or things I can try to figure out what may be causing this?
Or anyone know any thing that commonly causes this phone to reboot?

Ya if its still stock then use factory reset in the bootloader and if it still does it then it might be hardware issue.
Phone was on stamina mode for the rest of the night, using the picture button to take quick snaps and put it back in my pocket. Next thing I knew, my phone reset and asked me to choose a language.. it ended up wiping all data, pics, etc. and the SD-Card completely formatted as well.
Unfortunately didn't back up all of my pictures... but will be more conscious about backing up data next time.
My question is, although it's not Xperia Z3 specific, what could've caused the auto-factory reset to occur? Corrupted SD card? Corrupted files?
Never heard this happen. Are you sure someone/you did not use device manager from a computer to remote erase accidentally?
Yes, checked the activity and no phone wipes were recorded.

Must have somehow gotten to the factory reset menu on the phone by accident. Did you lock it before putting in pants?
Definitely
I was abusing that physical camera button on the phone a lot, I'm thinking it would be crapped out because of that. There is definitely a bit of lag when you use it, especially when you have a lock screen enabled.

Lag might be due to triple tap to zoom, some Z3s camewith it enabled by default, mine was off.

Hi,
I've had the same problem with my Z3. Had it a couple 1-2 week after rls and auto factory reset happend every 3-4 day. Damn annoying . I've been using my old S4 while it is at some repair thing. Got it back now and they say it's nothing wrong with it.
Anyone know why this happends?

Same thing happened to me as well. Whats worse is i had auto pic backup running but considering i had been on a cruise it disnt back anything up. Doubly worse my sdcard was encrypted so i dont think there is a way to recover. If anyone has an idea how to recover lwt me know. I have lots of kid pictures i want back!
BTW mine happened coming out of ultra power saving mode.
Hi guys,
I have a problem that I've never seen or heard of before. So here is the situation:
Power button didn't work, so RMA'd phone. Got different phone back and instantly rooted/installed custom rom. Didn't notice anything until a month later. My phone would randomly just lag out and the wifi would stop. It would still show connected and that there was uploading activity, but that is all. When I clicked it to disable, nothing would happened. I would have to restart the phone, disable it for a while then re-enable it. I though it was the rom so I switched. Noticed the same thing is happening. I decided to play around with my sim, so I took it out and then put it back in, and it somehow fixed the problem. So I was assuming it was the sim causing the problem. Worked perfect for a week then started happening again. I did the thing with the sim and it didn't work this time. I still have the problem now.
Basically, my wifi would just stop working, when I click on it the phone lags out and freezes. I have to restart the phone and it will work. Sometimes Itll work for a full day then all of a sudden just stop. Sometimes it happens just a few minutes after restarting. I mostly find that it happens when the battery is less than 20%. Right now I am running stock LP, locked bootloader. I was supposed to send it in but they wouldn't accept it because I was 6 days over my warranty. So I'm not sure if I was send a faulty phone and now I'm stuck with it?
LG said I would be charged $150 flat rate for them to fix it which sucks. I'd rather just get a new phone and stay away from LG in the future.
Any suggestions? Also this was happening on KK at first then I tried LP Roms and same thing. I have never flashed any radio since I got the phone, could this be a possible solution?

You would get the same reply from pretty much any company, once it is over the warranty period then it is over the warranty period, this is no reason to "stay away from LG". Most charge a flat rate since they're likely to simply do a motherboard/whatever board swap if the fault is to do with internal components, as it is much easier/cheaper for them to do this compared to diagnosing and repairing/replacing things individually.

Try a different radio version. If it doesn't change anything then you have a hardware problem.

The only reason I said I would stay away is because it seems that I sent in my phone with a problem only to receive another one with a different problem. I'll try the radios tonight, hopefully it works.
Thanks, I'll keep you guys posted.

You mentioned that you only ran into issues after a month. During that month a hardware issue could have possibly developed and the device was fine when you initially received it.
Known LP bug.. Thats why i still stay with kk

So i've been trying to fix my wifi for the last few days, i've tried flashing the august update, factory resetting, doing This Guide, taking apart the device and it still won't ****ing work, i mean wtf? I was texting my friend and suddenly it ****ing shuts off and when it turns on it doesn't want to connect to wifi and does all short of crazy thing. No it's not a power button issue and no it's not hardware, the thing freezes constantly(and reboots afterwards). I don't know, this left a very bitter taste of android in my mouth, and that's disappointing for someone who has been in the ecosystem since donut came out. I won't blame the Nexus 5 it's a great device and it will always be a great device (If it's a hardware issue i wouldn't be this butthurt since this phone is 2+ years old).
Problem details:
*WiFi won't work. Data, bluetooth, GPS, NFC, cell network, etc works.
*MAC address stays at 02:00:00:00:00:00. When it briefly worked the MAC address was 00:8x:xx:xx:xx:xx or something.
*System has a 98% chance of freezing and ****ing up. Not power button issue. It then reboots after it freezes like ****.
*Everything else still works, i'm 99% certain that it's software's fault.
*Now it shows blank screenw with navbar and status bar present, but on the status bar it says 23.06 (its 23.10 currently), no sim icon and no battery icon. It did something similar when the issue first started
What i've tried:
*Smacking the device, jk. Clean flashing the august update.
*Wiping cache partition
*Deleted persist/wifi
*Doing the persist guide on xda
*Completely discharged and recharged it, WiFi works temporarily
*Using Pry-Fi. And wifi fixer app with a penguin icon.
*Pray to God 24/7
*Flashing AOSPA
What i will try:
????
It could be a hardware issue. I have two nexus 5 motherboards sitting in my junk pile that work perfectly except wifi either won't turn on or won't connect to any open or password-protected network. I have also tried different Roms, radios, and boot loaders. Once I changed the motherboard without changing anything else, wifi was perfect.

If you tried a complete clean install of a factory image, and it still didn't work, then it's probably an hardware issue. It really looks like it too, but I'm no expert. How would a software issue persist among different flashes? I'd say something fried on your motherboard, and now you have that issue with wifi.
It could be hardware. Both motherboards that I have came from phones that were never dropped or came in contact with any moisture.
This can happen suddenly, similar to the sudden death of the emmc chip on the Nexus 5.
The wifi and emmc issue is not that uncommon in Samsung s4 either.

Ok so this morning it works again, but the software still kinda buggy (random freezes). I can access the web via chrome and i can download some stuff in the play store, is this still a hardware issue? I'm still worried the wifi won't turn on again though. The MAC address seems normal too now
edit: Nope, shuts off again. But it works in safe mode.... .wtf?

The wiFi works again now, but the software is still buggy, the MAC address is normal and i can do things with wifi like i normally would. Is this hardware? I thought if the wifi hardware is dead it won't turn back on at all
edit: nope it shuts off again, works in safe mode
How long does wifi work in safe mode?

Random. Today it worked for a few hours (not in safe mode). And yesterday it worked for like 30 minutes in safe mode
I still think it's a slowly dying wi-fi chip. If it's not too annoying, I would live with it.

Do you think the oven method will work to revive it?
It might but the fix would be temporary if it is a problem with the chip lifting.
same thing has happened to me just now .. its a common problem i think
wifi is f*****d

Chip lifting....? What does that mean?
I define lift as a situation where the phone heats up and causes a chip to lift away from the circuit board, causing one or more broken connections at the solder points. The process of heating the circuit board in an oven is sometimes referred to as "solder reflow" by some people.
Hi all
I have an annoying issue just started to happen yesterday
I have BKL09 Version with latest stock EMUI 9.1 AND patches
Suddenly the device is rebooting randomly just after 3 to 5 min of use ..it may reboot now while I'm writing this !
I have tried to uninstall the last 5 apps or so that may have contributed into this but no luck
I can also try to do factory reset but it's a pain as I have lots of apps and data to backup
Just wondering if anyone has faced the same situation or what else I can look for before factory reset ?
Thank you
Reboots If not under use?
Reboots If battery full or empty or both?
Before reboots IT shows Something on the screen?
Hopefully is a software problem. Try to backup your data an reset everything. If that didnt work, hopefully is the battery.
The worst case the problem may be some chip on the motherboard(cpu, memory, some electronic) that has aged or water damage or purely bad luck.
I had a Nexus 5X with the well know "soldering problems" that did the dame thing; sudden reboots.

Thank you for the response
It reboots randomly while in use and not in use
When it reboots , battery is always have juice never empty or low charged
It's just hang for few seconds then reboot itself
I have tried wipping the cash partition as advised by support when I called them over the phone but it didn't help
Next I'm going to monitor for few days then try a factory reset
But if it's battery ..how can I get it replaced ?
Sent from my Honor View 10 using XDA Labs
If You opened a phone before, battery in this model is prety simple to be replaced. You should be carefull with batteries as they might be dangerous. If You never did IT, You should find a service that can do that for You.
A replacement battery is 15$ dollars in my country and the service should be around another 15-20$ as it's not so hard to replace IT. This phone s are not glued - You can check IT on YouTube.
i also have the same issue from mid march and it has progressively worsened only. did you find any solution
