In Settings>Applications>Manage Applications there is "Field Test" listed right below "Email"
Does anyone know how to start the field test mode?
It is also under system/app/FieldTest.apk.
Search FieldTest in this page:
http://modmygphone.com/wiki/index.php/Android_File_List
Download the AnyCut app from the Market. Then return to your home screen, and long press > Shortcut > Any Cut
Then choose 'Activity' and scroll down to Field Test. Accept it, and run it from Home.
Done.
It seems to have quite a few 2G/3G/etc. status information options, as well as tests. I am not sure what most of them do, so I haven't messed with it much.
i messed with some..
I messed with most all of them alot didn't seem to work and all of them I understood yery little but you can get lists of you neighbor cells from one of them...

This Application also Exist in Nokia Symbian Devices and Apple iPhone and it very very useful for Diagnostic Pepose of Radio Frequency
But... does it works??? I am VERY interested to this application!!!
It work perfectly
field test modes
ALL phones have a fieldtest mode, it test signal stregnth, shows neighbor cell sites.
Your phone is constantly looking for cell sites that neighbor the one your in to make the best decision on which to hop to when the one your on is fading out, and your phone never knows which way you might travel.
There is tons of other stuff this one is the most complex and info rich test mode.
Alas most of it won't make any sence but it looks cool. I'm still playing with it and will post anything I figure out.
If there is a wireless site tech that could shed some light on the more useful bits of info.

Does the WCMDA page work?
On my phone, the RxLevel is always -64db.
havent messed to much
If testing a wcdma you would have to be under a tower equipped with that technology, it looks to my untrained eye that the g1 has the hardware to work just about anywhere, it works in lots of different countries AS-IS, with that and the vauge definitions of the radio in the specs from htc/goog/android.
Its always easier to make universal hardware and just cripple it where necessary, hopefully open source will open the dream to as many nets as possible.
So if you were in an area with the wcdma and it was in use you'd see stuff in that part of the fieldtest.
Just like the 3g stuff shows nothing in the gprs tower that serves my house, and full 3g coverage is less than 10mins away but seperated by the chesapeake and delaware canal, and for some reason everything takes forever to come to my side of the canal, just got cable modems 2 years ago and fios about 6 months, tmob has no time table for my upgrades but all exsisting gprs towers are first on the list to go...

Could you please help to verify the RxLevel on the WCDMA page is working when the phone is in 3G mode?
I have tested several times, it doesn't work. I am sure the phone was in 3G mode, and I can see some other 3G related pages were working that time.
Neither the 3G DCH page works for me.
I am still on the RC19 version though.
wcdma vs hspda?

HSPDA maybe?
I gotta do more reading on the 3g stuff, Im an advanced hobbiest on the older tech but I dont know alot about any 3g
Where I can download AnyCut? I am from Italy and I have heard that I don't have access to android market, so how can I find the AnyCut application to install and use on my G1?
P.S. The G1 is on the way, I haven't it yet...
market only
AFAIK, the apps aren't available yet as .apk (kinda like a .jar afaik)
If they were we would probably be able to use the sd as a place to store apps
Bhang
If you have a data plan, you should have access to the market I'm pretty sure. Although I could be wrong.
you might have to run the field test while having an ACTIVE connection for some of the values to actually show up. At least on the iPhone that was the case

blues doubtful that wcdma is working, GSM carriers do not use wcdma its UMTS for 3g with T-Mobile/ATT

UMTS uses WCDMA as its air interface (whereas the 2G GSM networks use TDMA).
i stand corrected.. thanks for the education.
The empty rx level in the WCDMA page can still be retrieved from other sources like the java api.
The worst thing is the 3G DCH Status page is totally blank. None of the ECNO values can be seen. Not sure how useful this is for tmobile people, if they want to verify the 3G network performance.
I live in a non-LTE area, and every time I look for a method to disable LTE and go to the CDMA-only mode, my Charge puts itself back into the LTE mode. (well, to be precise, it selects the option called 'Unknown', which I'm guessing is the LTE option because all the rest say CMDA or GSM) *#*#4636#*#* doesn't work to get to phone information, and google is no help because everything that shows up is for the thunderbolt and refers to that code. Anyone got a better idea?
Settings->Wireless & Network->Mobile networks->System selection doesn't work?
When in doubt, I always overlook the easy solution. Thread can be closed. Thanks! /feels like an idiot
I bought an Unlocked Canadian S6 recently, and it just won't let me connect to the LTE network.
Model Numer : SM-G920W8
Android Version : 5.0.2
Baseband : G920W8VLU1AOCG
Connecting to the LTE is not even an option. When I go in the Network Options, I get the choice between :
-WDCMA/GSM (auto connect)
- WDCMA only
- GSM only
I know for a fact that I am in the coverage zone, so no need to ask that silly question
I've tried different SIM cards, played in the options a bit, and factory reset the phone about 5 times now, yet nothing seems to work.
Also, when I try to do the update, it just reboots and gives me an Android logo and a failed Icon
I've only seen one other post like this from a carrier's support website, but no solutions were found.
**Update : For a reason, after a recovery, it will connect to the LTE for a bit or until next boot, then go back to what it is now.
First question, who did you buy the phone from? Second, Is it second hand? By default, Wind mobile does not allow the LTE option to be displayed in system settings as they as a carrier don't have LTE. It is blocked by the CSC setting for the carrier. As for other carriers It should leave you the option to connect in settings where you say it is not. If it is a Wind phone, You would need to change the CSC to enable the LTE selection. There is a method to force LTE even without option in settings, but I think it is removed in the latest firmware. Try dialing *#2263# in the dialer. It may bring you to menu that will allow you to select LTE. This is not a permanent method though as it will need to be done every boot. The other way, (If you are in fact a Wind/Mobilicity phone) is to enter dialer and enter *#272*IMEI# with IMEI being your devices unique code. If at all possible, take a full nand and Titanium Backup before doing this and be sure to transfer everything off the phone to a PC. This method wipes everything and I mean everything off the phone buy is a surefire way to enable LTE.
Yes, it was second hand. I didn't ask who was his carrier simply because it was unlocked.
I'll try it tomorrow, thanks for the information
Here is the menu you will see when you type the *#272*imei# code into your dialer. The codes are the carrier names. Mine which is GLW is Wind, BMC is Bell, RWC is Rogers, etc.
Maybe there is no LTE in your area...

It would still be visible in the Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode menu which it is not. His problem is more than that.

Sweet! It works :good: Thanks man
Now, would you have any ideas on why the update won't work? I didn't get much into it yet, but I will soon.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't update, but now that you have changed the CSC you can download the update and flash with Odin. Pick your carrier and go to town. The guy running the following thread runs his own firmware host. He's got amazing DL speeds. Usually takes me 6 or so minutes to do the 1.6gb file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3086387
I'm having the same issue.

Connected with someone selling a G920W8 version. LTE is disabled and the codes aren't working. Can you reaffirm which unlock code worked for you? I'm on Fido, what LTE network are you using?
hi BCSC
Thanks for the details. I searched complete net and read all articles but nothing set me up with the proper thing. i read your solution i dialled *#2263# and all i got is service mode and in that i went to band selection , LTE and the all ....... Yes and its showing LTE in mobile data. THanks so much.
But now another issue, network is showing perfect but no outgoing and incoming calls.
in incoming its showing busy and on outgoing its not connecting to another phone.
And, Lte is not showing in mobile networks, There only 3 options still are showing.
Mine is same Wind S6 but i had to use in India.
Let Me know
Thanks once again

Picking LTE from the service mode will note make it visible from the settings menu. Its more of a workarpund instead of a way of permanently enabling it. As for the issue of no out/in calls, my best guess is that it could be due to which LTE bands are being used or are available in India. Unfortunatly I have no way to test that option. I only was successful in getting the Wind LTE option on Canadian carriers.
Sent from my SM-G935W8 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I'm on PD1 6.0.1 with a G920R7 nTelos. I rooted using CF-Auto root, flashed TWRP for the g920p, and installed the zip file from this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689
After that I installed Phone INFO ★Samsung★ and used it to access the hidden menus. Went to the 2263 menu and set all band preferences to all and selected the LTE/GSM mode only, then went to the 4636 menu and set the radio to GSM/LTE (prl) auto. I've tried GSM only and it switches back to GSM/LTE (prl) auto on its own.
I now have access to a mess of options in the network mode selection screen in settings, and setting it to GSM only and 3g only still does not allow me to catch signal. In network operators it shows AT&T, yet if you try to manually select the network it never goes through. *#0011# still shows it switching through LTE bands and not staying on one or registering on the network. In the device info screen (4636 menu) it shows the correct phone number and AT&T for current network, but under cellinfo still shows it switching between LTE bands and under GSM disconnects it shows ======DATA======.
At this point I'm not quite sure what to try next. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas to try. Thank you.
EDIT: I've also tried the G920P domestic unlock and G920R4 unlock with a box, but no luck with either as expected.
i can do remotely if u want

I have a box but the device isn't supported, it's not locked I must just be missing something. Anyway you could private message me what I'm missing? I've been through all the settings messing with it and all, even flashed the CDMA to GSM zip floating around here. I know I'm missing something silly. Any help would be appreciated and I don't mind sending you a donation provided I can do this myself next time.

I just messaged him on Hangouts. I don't know if its something he can help with or not because I believe we have the same box and the g900r7 isn't supported. This isn't even answered on that Voldemort website.
Did you figure this one out? I'm also interested in GSM unlocking this phone.
Messing around with it I was able to get an ATT Sim card to pull 3g data but no call/text or lte.
I'm building a test mobile network on some laptops and with a software defined radio based on Open AirInterface (is googleable, but I can't post the link cos I'm a newb) code, and I have this up and running. Additionally, I've bought some programmable SIMs to work with it on a bunch of phones. The information on these I've added into my HSS implementation. The Country Code/Network code deployed on the SIMs is 901/70 - so it doesn't interfere with commercial networks.
I'm testing with a bunch of phones in an isolation chamber, and my end goal is to shift the network into something I have a license for and "go public", but this network will have a low channel bandwidth (3MHz or 1.4MHz in Band 3 LTE). Not many phones have supported this, so I started with a 5MHz channel, which most do support - and I've successfully connected an S4 and a Nexus to my little network. However, when I tried the S6 with a SIM that worked in another phone, it cannot even see the network. I've seen hints of Samsung doing operator whitelisting, but would like to know if this is the case and, if possible, how to add my operator codes into the whitelist.
So far, I've tried the following:
a) "*#0011#" puts you into ServiceMode where you used to be able to enable/disable frequency bands and other such settings with the "Q0000" menu entry - but it looks like Samsung have squished this, also I know the phone has Band 3 operational as I can put a commercial SIM in it that runs on that band. I've not found any way of actually modifying any settings within this mode.
b) I found the file "/system/etc/apns-conf.xml" which contains a list of operator APN addresses - I updated mine to contain my settings, but no joy, and if I "reset to default" my APN settings, my settings are not picked up and I have to manually add my APN (but at least that stays selected)
c) I found some databases in "/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/", in particular "nwk_info.db" and added my network details to it. The phone then changed from basically saying I was only able to make emergency calls to "Selected mobile network (901/70) unavailable", which kind of at least hints I've moved it in the right direction
The S6 is running a rooted factory reset, and allows SIMS from two different commercial operators on it so it should be completely unlocked. It's never been out of the country, so should have "defeated" the region locks that Sammy put on the phones nowadays (although it begs the question whether rooting the phone resets this and perhaps it's still awaiting 5 mins of calls via a local SIM?).
Does anyone know of a whitelist of MNC/MCC numbers I can add my settings to? Or any other possible solution to this?
The long winded solution is to change the MNC/MCC info on each of my SIMs, but that's a PITA and I'm not even sure it'll work yet (I will attempt to try one soon, but changing the configs on my mobile network is also non-trivial!)
