[Q] Disable LTE? - Verizon Droid Charge

I live in a non-LTE area, and every time I look for a method to disable LTE and go to the CDMA-only mode, my Charge puts itself back into the LTE mode. (well, to be precise, it selects the option called 'Unknown', which I'm guessing is the LTE option because all the rest say CMDA or GSM) *#*#4636#*#* doesn't work to get to phone information, and google is no help because everything that shows up is for the thunderbolt and refers to that code. Anyone got a better idea?

Settings->Wireless & Network->Mobile networks->System selection doesn't work?

When in doubt, I always overlook the easy solution. Thread can be closed. Thanks! /feels like an idiot

Weird APN / 3G issue

hi,
I'm on day 2 of trying to sort out my wife's new Captivate, so would appreciate any help at all. Phone is rooted, unlocked and has decent signal, but I cannot connect to 3g.
I'm on Optus network via TPG (Aussie network). I've tried many APN settings, and I'm at the point where I don't think this is the issue (yes, I know this is normally the issue).
I tried going into *#*#4696#*#* and doing WCDMA preferred, and WCDMA only, made sure AUS radio band was selected and did 'Enable data'.... also no help
I've also made sure data is enabled on the sim/account. If I insert the sim into another phone, it works with 3G. So it's something to do with the phone for sure.
Optus' 3g info says "2100MHz frequency band. Enabled with High Speed Packet Access technology (HSPA)". So WCDMA is the correct setting I think.
To be clear, I've never gotted the little 3G symbol at all (or an 'H' symbol that I've seen someone mention). I first tried emulating my own Vibrant's settings exactly, which didn't help.
Any ideas would be great.
thanks.
I'm completely out of options ... is there a chance this is an issue with bad contacts? I fixed my Vibrant's GPS by prying up one of the contacts...
All fixed. If anyone else has this trouble - flash back to stock, following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Note - I already had stock, so no idea what the hell was going on, but whatever.

Any way to force LTE only mode?

The thunderbolt had this and it was nice.
Basically when I'm at work I'm in a fringe 4g area. If I leave the phone in 3g/4g auto mode then it constantly switches between the two and it destroys my battery. Not only that but it makes 4g basically unusable for me as it never stays on long enough to do anything with it.
On the thunderbolt by going into the phone info settings you could select LTE only mode.
On the Charge you only have the options of going CDMA only or CDMA/LTE auto. There is no LTE only option.
Is this something that can be corrected by an app or rom or kernel or is it built into the radio software?
I used the phone info app that worked great on the thunderbolt and on the charge it just comes up with a bunch of options like WCDMA only, GSM only and such and as far as I can tell none of them actually do anything.
Hopefully someone knows the answer to this because I like tethering to my tablets at work but if I can't have consistent 4g then I'm gonna be forced to return to my tbolt which is a shame because I like this charge alot better.
I haven't pucked up a Charge yet, but most Sammy phones let you for some fine grain tuning if the radio and other system settings via a menu accessed by a dialer code.
You could try *#*#197328640#*#* (is debug mode) and dig in from there.

Already tried that, it doesn't work on the charge. It just dials and you get the "Welcome to Verizon wireless, your call cannot be completed as dialed" message.
I believe if you go settings ->wireless and network->mobile networks->system selection change it to CDMA mode will disable LTE.
you can try dialing "*#*#4636#*#*" that takes me to a hidden menu on the thunderbolt. If it works, from that menu select "phone Information" then select LTE only. or if you want to disable 4g (Helps battery in non 4g areas) you can select "CDMA auto(prl)"

Thanks but did you guys even read my original post?
For starters, I'm not trying to disable LTE... I'm trying to force LTE only.
Secondly, as I previously said, This phone does not have the same radio options that the thunderbolt does. There is no option for LTE only. I understand the difference between CDMA auto PRL, CDMA/LTE auto and LTE only. THE PROBLEM IS THIS PHONE DOES NOT HAVE AN LTE ONLY OPTION!
I tried the phone info app that works on the thunderbolt, the only options are all for WCDMA only, GSM only and CDMA only and various combinations of them. There is no LTE only. Besides, none of the options present in that menu actually change anything, only the 2 that are built into the wireless network settings do (CDMA only and CDMA/LTE Auto).
Not trying to be a **** but if you're gonna post something to try and answer a question or help someone at least make sure you read the question.
In the same boat as you. I actually get decent service on LTE at home, and virtually nothing on 3G... go figure, but it keeps trying.

i have the same problem as both you guys and this is so frustrating. when its connected to 4g i get between 8-10mb down. i also have a samsung mifi hotspot for verizon and it shows a strong 4g signal and gets over 10mb down consistently in the very same location.
i have no idea why my droid charge keeps switching between 4g and 3g. the funny thing is the only reason i really mind is because the 3g signal is horrible. if i was getting 2mb down on the 3g like i have seen at other locations i wouldnt mind at all.
yeah i have the same issue as well, i'm really not even sure what it's testing to decide to switch from 4g to 3g, i live about 100 yards from the verizon tower i'm connecting to and have full reception on both 4g and 3g but yet it still switches randomly between the 2, we really need a way to disable 3g

Still nothing on this front? I'm afraid I'm gonna have to return my charge tomorrow then =(
No LTE only mode = no 4g for me.
I already did and canceled Verizon, I'll have to stick with sprint. I really loved the charge, and wanted to keep it and stay with Verizon , but my evo gets a full 4g signal both at home and work. Too bad, the charge was an awesome phone

It actually seems to be the way android handles 4G, either on purpose or just coincidentally.
I have the same issue at work with Sprint, 4G gives me 2-3 bars but there is NO 3G, but it turns 4G off when the screen is locked, so it sits there trying to get backups in 3G all day, spare parts lets you force wifi to stay on, surely there should be a similar switch for 4G a dev could find.
Any luck on this issue here? I have a feeling I'm in a fringe area where it could potentially switch me between networks quite often...
Is it safe to assume that an LTE-only option is impossible unless Samsung does something to enable this functionality out of their LTE chip (CMC220)?
Any updates on a LTE/4G only option?
I found out how to force LTE Only ...
Warning! If this bonks up your phone, don't blame me!
Use at your own risk!
Now that we got that out of the way, here is what I have found:
Enable the Hidden Menu option by entering the following code in your phone dialer: *#22745927
Enter an SPC of: 000000
Select: Hiddenmenu Enable
Select: OK (Your phone may reset after this)
To get to the "Force CMDA/LTE/Global" menu, enter the following code in your phone dialer: **583
If you press the LTE button, you will be fixed on the LTE network.
Reset your phone
Taaa-daa!
Note: You apparently need connectivity to the CDMA network to make phone calls & text messages (Thanks, chaoscentral!) Oh, well ...
To reset back to the normal LTE/CDMA automatic selection mode:
Go to the "Force CMDA/LTE/Global" menu by enter the following code in your phone dialer: **583
Press the CDMA button, which will re-enable your phone to default to the CDMA network.
Reset your phone
When your phone boots back up, go to: Settings >> Wireless & network >> Mobile networks >> System selection >> LTE automatic
Cheers!
just keep in mind LTE only mode means no phone calls or text messages. since those go over CDMA
Ah, I should've guessed they would make the phone code for this hidden menu option "LTE". Now I wish there was a way to only disable EV-DO 3G (leaving CDMA intact for phone calls/texts). Can't have it all I guess...
Thanks for this regardless!

Yep. I tried goofing around with a few different options on the "LTE" theme, but nothing came up.
Then, I realized that I had loaded new ROMs since the last time I had enabled the Hidden Menus option, and figured out that my Hidden Menus were no longer enabled. Once I re-enabled the hidden menus, I tried *#LTE#* (which didn't work), and then **LTE, which did.
BTW, for anyone that has had problems making phone calls after following my original settings, I have updated the post on to how to get back to automatic LTE/CDMA.
Also, has anyone tried that **583 "Global" option yet? Verrrry Interesting!! (But, spooky!)**
Ain't messin' with your phone fun?
** Anyone who gets this reference wins one "Bippy".

please excuse my ignorance, but what would be the purpose of this?
so that it dosent jump around from 3g 2g if its auto and your not using data it automatically defaults to 2g i think to save battery then switches to 3g oir hsdpa 3.5g or what att calls 4g on demand this keeps it locked on wcdma or 4g to my knowledge

Mine goes back to auto as soon as I back out of the menu. Am I doing something wrong by using the back button?
wouldn't this, by locking it, render the phone useless when traveling out of area that support that network?

Here's an alternate method I puzzled out (and then afterward discovered it was already posted in thread 751237. It's a bit faster and has the advantage of surviving flight mode; still gets reset upon restart.
Dial *#*#2263#*#* (mnemonic: *#*#BAND#*#*).
This brings up the Band selection menu which you can also access from the above method by dialing *#*#197328640#*#* then going into DEBUG SCREEN > PHONE CONTROL > NETWORK CONTROL.
Select [3] GSM BAND
Select [1] GSM ALL
Select "Select GSM All Bands"
Menu key > END
To switch back, go to *#*#2263#*#* and select [1] AUTOMATIC > Select GSM &WCDMA All Bands > Menu key > END.
Something else I'm trying out is switching the acquisition order so when it is in "dual" mode, it'll try GSM first. Even so, it will still switch to 3g if there's enough signal. Seems to help keep it on 2G though, when it would otherwise cling to a faint 3g signal with 0-1 bars.
To do that, go into the NETWORK CONTROL menu (see above) then
Select [4] AQUISITION ORDER (yes they misspelled it)
Select [2] GSM->UMTS
Select "Select ACQ_ORDER_GSM_FIRST" (at least they abbreviated it correctly)
Menu key > END
This option does not get reset upon phone restart.

I did this and now my sms or text messaging don't work help
I had this happen too, but I didn't use the above method. Don't know what happened, but when I checked message settings, I had no number under "Message Center" did a quick google search and found an ATT number "+13123149810"...now it works again.
Did u call the number
Never mind i fixed it.but now in my network type it says umts is that faster then hsdpa and are there any other number sequences i can use to tweak my phone
I'm getting RAT restricted, which I got on my Vibrant but never my Captivate...
How can I change to show the different bands?
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G
wcdma and cdma have nothing to do with each other. wcdma is also known as umts, the base part of 3g (and 4g when hspa+). hspa is a protocol that runs on top of this cell technology providing higher data speeds. gprs (known as edge, and some times called gsm) is 2g. you can turn one or another off so the phone does not seek and connect to both services, which could save battery life. even though ive yet to see my phone find less than 3g/4g in houston, i still dont turn it off, just in case.

[Q] Lumia 820 Field Test on AT&T

Does anybody know if AT&T changed the Field Test menu again?
I tried both ##3282# and ##3282 but none of them trigger anything :crying:
I have version 1232.5962.1314.0001 and i'm looking forward to change that ROM to another within RM-824, hopefully clean from AT&T because it only sticks to either 4G or 2G and the "highest speed connection" within "cellular" menu is not there at all (probably AT&T wants battery to drain quickly?). I hope I change the phone to 3G only.
Thanks!!

From all the information I've been able to find, there is no accessible hidden menus on WP8. AT&T or otherwise. I guess they figured too many people figured out how to edit stuff on on WP7, so they tightened it up a bit.

SM-G920W8 | No Option To Connect to LTE

I bought an Unlocked Canadian S6 recently, and it just won't let me connect to the LTE network.
Model Numer : SM-G920W8
Android Version : 5.0.2
Baseband : G920W8VLU1AOCG
Connecting to the LTE is not even an option. When I go in the Network Options, I get the choice between :
-WDCMA/GSM (auto connect)
- WDCMA only
- GSM only
I know for a fact that I am in the coverage zone, so no need to ask that silly question
I've tried different SIM cards, played in the options a bit, and factory reset the phone about 5 times now, yet nothing seems to work.
Also, when I try to do the update, it just reboots and gives me an Android logo and a failed Icon
I've only seen one other post like this from a carrier's support website, but no solutions were found.
**Update : For a reason, after a recovery, it will connect to the LTE for a bit or until next boot, then go back to what it is now.
First question, who did you buy the phone from? Second, Is it second hand? By default, Wind mobile does not allow the LTE option to be displayed in system settings as they as a carrier don't have LTE. It is blocked by the CSC setting for the carrier. As for other carriers It should leave you the option to connect in settings where you say it is not. If it is a Wind phone, You would need to change the CSC to enable the LTE selection. There is a method to force LTE even without option in settings, but I think it is removed in the latest firmware. Try dialing *#2263# in the dialer. It may bring you to menu that will allow you to select LTE. This is not a permanent method though as it will need to be done every boot. The other way, (If you are in fact a Wind/Mobilicity phone) is to enter dialer and enter *#272*IMEI# with IMEI being your devices unique code. If at all possible, take a full nand and Titanium Backup before doing this and be sure to transfer everything off the phone to a PC. This method wipes everything and I mean everything off the phone buy is a surefire way to enable LTE.
Yes, it was second hand. I didn't ask who was his carrier simply because it was unlocked.
I'll try it tomorrow, thanks for the information
Here is the menu you will see when you type the *#272*imei# code into your dialer. The codes are the carrier names. Mine which is GLW is Wind, BMC is Bell, RWC is Rogers, etc.
Maybe there is no LTE in your area...

It would still be visible in the Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode menu which it is not. His problem is more than that.

Sweet! It works :good: Thanks man
Now, would you have any ideas on why the update won't work? I didn't get much into it yet, but I will soon.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't update, but now that you have changed the CSC you can download the update and flash with Odin. Pick your carrier and go to town. The guy running the following thread runs his own firmware host. He's got amazing DL speeds. Usually takes me 6 or so minutes to do the 1.6gb file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3086387
I'm having the same issue.

Connected with someone selling a G920W8 version. LTE is disabled and the codes aren't working. Can you reaffirm which unlock code worked for you? I'm on Fido, what LTE network are you using?
hi BCSC
Thanks for the details. I searched complete net and read all articles but nothing set me up with the proper thing. i read your solution i dialled *#2263# and all i got is service mode and in that i went to band selection , LTE and the all ....... Yes and its showing LTE in mobile data. THanks so much.
But now another issue, network is showing perfect but no outgoing and incoming calls.
in incoming its showing busy and on outgoing its not connecting to another phone.
And, Lte is not showing in mobile networks, There only 3 options still are showing.
Mine is same Wind S6 but i had to use in India.
Let Me know
Thanks once again
Cheeerzzzzz
Varun
Picking LTE from the service mode will note make it visible from the settings menu. Its more of a workarpund instead of a way of permanently enabling it. As for the issue of no out/in calls, my best guess is that it could be due to which LTE bands are being used or are available in India. Unfortunatly I have no way to test that option. I only was successful in getting the Wind LTE option on Canadian carriers.
