[Poll] Micro Arc Oxidation failure

This is just a poll thread to gather some statistics about the HTC One S body issue.

SH23, 5 days, no issue YET
Hi,
I've been using my black One S during 5 days.
SH23 with no real issue yet, except that the USB port edges have some "micro" clear spots
I still voted "no issue" because its much smaller than what is shown on the pictures.
Hopefully this pole will be merged with the other thread

We've started a poll yesterday in a german thread. Results are:
Black issued: 40
Black not issued: 27
Silver issues: 2
Silver not issued: 10
Total number: 79
The two cases with "silver issued" hab no problem with the unibody, but the plastic sim-cover. As far as I know all devices have HT23 or SH23 SN.

I do not want to piss in the pool here, but over in the MAO failure discussion thread it was recently mentioned that the first 4 digits do not tell us anything but year and month of manufacture. It takes the first 5 to really peg it down to the exactly to the day of manufacturing.
Also I am not sure if it makes sense to throw both of the sites of manufacture into one put. HT stands for a Taiwan factory and SH for... I forgot - Shenzhen or Shanghai I think.
I think for this to be useful it should take into account the first 5 digits AND separate the locations. My reasoning: the SH facility might have had a "good" (non issued batch) during three days of March, while the HT facility produced issued phones on those dates. Then, later on, the HT facility may have had a few good days, while the SH facility put out crap. With the current setup this is meddled up and there is not really much info to be gathered, except the overall percentage of ppl who have issues with the devices made in March in both locations. It does not indicate whether SH or HT is better or worse.
Of course this would make for a complete overkill of poll options. (Assuming the first were made on the first of March it would take 30 options for each facility).
Suggestion: Change or close this thread and create a new one with the poll options "No issues (yet)" - "Major issues" - "Minor issues" and maybe a second poll asking when the first issues were noticed ("First day", "within 3 days", "within 5 days" etc.)
And then request users the users to post a picture or at least a description of the issues (at top edge, around all edges, around sim cover, around USB Port) and the first 5 digits. Then the entire thing would be much easier to follow and notice trends.
Of course that would require moderator or someone with permanent editing rights to take in all the new posts and add them to some sort of list / table in the First Post for easy reference.
But if done this way it would probably make for a useful source of info even for HTC engineers, becaue from what I gather a lot of ppl who have this problem and post in the debate thread are not ready or willing or able to send in their phones just yet for inspection by HTC.

But: I agree absolutely on the fact that SNs are not helping much right here!

psych0t1c, I think you are right about the S/N. It`s just the first batches. But the poll options with "days used" is not so good, cause some users are more careful than others
All we can do, is just collect the stats "Issued / Not issued". And ofcourse it`ll be very good if people post the photos and comment on if these scratches appeared after they had already voted.

You make a very valid point, but it could very well be for nothing as well. For example the phones prone to this error could be within each batch much like processors, where the ones of lesser quality are sold as lower-end models.
My point being, we could put a lot of effort in this but the best thing is to just make a huge deal out of it so HTC will solve it for us. Of course feel free to go along, the data should be interesting anyhow

[Q] manufacturing a non camera smartphone

There are two questions (at the moment) that I'd like to be answered if possible.
1. How much would be needed to pay a manufacturer to create one?
High end internals, without a camera or a micro SD slot.
2. How can I get into contact with those that want one?
There are three reasons why I'm in the process of making one.
Variety of camera-less "smart phones" are shrinking. It's good to have choice
There is no one else doing it (so far, I think).
There is enough of a demand for others to have one.
Currently, there is a Shenzhen based manufacturer that gave me a positive reply regarding this matter so I still believe that there is some hope.

I don't think people will look for a specific phone without cam. I mean, of course they may not care if its 2MP or 8MP. If 1 such phone is released, it'll be immediately be bombarded with people who won't mind having an extra feature i.e cam. Do you think people who don't use cam much will NOT buy a smartphone because it has got a camera, although vice-versa seems possible.

The target market are not the general consumers, it never was in this case which is why I brought up this small project of mine. The phone is aimed at people who due to their work have restrictions on what they can bring. For instance, officially I am not allowed to have a camera phone which has an expandable storage. Every once in a while, I see posts on various forums and blogs about a non-camera smartphone. Even here, there were others who were in the exact situation. The difference between them and myself is that for them, they at least had a choice in buying a phone that accomplished such goals.
You say that the phone will be bombarded by people who want it without a camera, I would disagree. As, there are plenty of other options form reputable manufacturer that would fit the bill. Since, from the start I am not planning to create a product that would compete with them since I am at a disadvantage, not only in terms of so called "features" but brand, support, availability.
I'm trying to target a niche that would exist for the foreseeable future and that is why I created this thread.

User Review: ZTE Blade V

Greetings fellow xda members and modders!
Having received my ZTE Blade V one week ago, I felt like posting a small review about the phone, its capabilities and my experiences from it, as i have noticed that this phone neither exists in XDA database nor has any relevant topics for it as well.
Before starting the review I would like to state that i live in Greece, where the phone is priced at 159€. For a quad-core phone with no sim-locking that is considered a real bargain. With that covered, we are ready to begin our review
Design
Design-wise, the Blade V is far from perfect, but fairly decent considering its price. Its corners are rounded off and the exterior of the device is clean and simple. It could be even better if the micro-USB port was placed to the bottom of the phone though, beacuse on the left side of the phone you can easily feel a small bump. A camera button would be a nice addtion as well. With dimensions of 126 x 64 x 10.9 mm and a weight of 130g, you might expect a somewhat big and heavy device, but it still manages to fit comfortably in your hand, whether you are left or right-handed, providing easy access to all of its controls.
When you see the back of the Blade V, you momentarily forget that you are holding a device in that price range. The back cover design is very similar to that of the Galaxy S3 (should you choose the black version) and there are no flaws to be found. The back camera could be a little more protected though. The overall quality of plastic seems to be pretty good, and even after removing the back cover many times, there was no squeaking to be heard. Last but not least, the battery is removable which is a big plus for many users.
Display
Many android users (including me) have a lot of requirements when it comes to the display, beacause it can either ruin or boost your experience. Fear not, because Blade V will not dissapoint you. It features a 4-inch IPS LCD multi-touch screen operating at 800x480 pixels which outputs 16 million colours. Sure it is not as sharp and vivid as displays featured at more expensive phones, but it provides a rewarding experience whether it comes to multimedia or daily use. It can be very bright if required and at maximum brightness the screen can be seen even under direct sunlight.
Camera
The device features 2 cameras, but the lack of video calling limits the use of the front VGA camera to taking selfies and using it for skype calls ONLY. The back camera is rated at 5 MP and the lens seems to be of decent quality. Pictures are shot at 2592х1944 pixels, with the user having the conveniences of auto-focus, panoramic shot,picture timer,photo filters (sepia,b/w,negative) and a LED flash which can be set to on,off or auto.
When it comes to video though, many will be dissapointed. While the quality remains decent and the movement fluid, the phone is unable to shoot in HD, with the user being limited to 480p, qvga or qcif quality. Additional choices for video capturing are light on/off (the LED one), the adjustment of white-balance, geo tagging and two codecs: AMRNB and AAC.
Internal Hardware
The main selling point of this phone is its hardware. For 159€, you get a phone with a quad-core CPU, 1 GB of ram, and 4GB internal storage (up to 32 GB with micro sd), with only 2.5 GB of internal memory accesible to the user though. Now let's dive into some technical details: The CPU is a Qualcomm MSM8225Q Snapdragon clocked at 1.2 Ghz. While not top of the line, in combination with the Ardeno 203 GPU and 1 GB of ram, it can promise a responsive,lag-free and fluid experience, from daily use to gaming. I have to mention that I installed A LOT of apps (aproximately 800MB) of varying requirements and still not managed to bring it to its knees. The internal storage is more than enough and gives you room for plenty of applications, but don't expect to be able to install large applications such as NFS Most Wanted, because you might run out of memory.
As for connectivity, the device lacks 4G features but in turn provides full 3G, wifi and bluetooth.
Software
There is not much to say here, as ZTE have done little to customize Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. What must been mentioned though, is a convenient application called Mi-EasyAcces, providing easy acces for up-to 6 user-set applications without having to unlock the phone. Last but not least is the really nice Mi-POP application which enables you to have a back button available anywhere on the screen in order not to have to move your finger down all the time. Otherwise the UI is the same like factory 4.1 Jelly Bean with a launcher
Battery
For the last part of my review, i feel like covering a very important issue of today's smartphones- battery life. The battery is rated at 1800 mAh and provides very good battery life, to the point that a full charge is able to last you two days with medium brightness, moderate use and good coverage.
Conclusion
Before i bought the phone, i believed that this level of experience could not be provided under the 200 euro price tag. Well, this phone proved me wrong. The device sure is not high end but it provides a really impressive and smooth performance. Rooting it was a piece of cake and many people here expect it to become a great modding platform, given its Qualcomm CPU and the spec/price ratio. Even for the basic user, who has no modding knowledge or experience, it is a great entry-level phone for a great android experience
I would like to thank everyone for your time, patience and support you have shown me since i registered at XDA, no matter what problem i have faced. I would be very delighted to see your comments, opinions and experiences with the device, as well as constructive critisism for future posts.

ATTENTION FELLOW READERS! After ROUGHLY one month of regular use, the screen started showing flashing white pixels on dark images at the bottom left part. They appear to flash rapidly and range from 3-5 pixels per blink. I REALLY hope ZTE covers this, otherwhise they gained one VERY unhappy customer

What a thorough review, and an interesting read. I feel your pain with the display issues that you're experiencing and, like you, really hope that ZTE comes through and does the right thing. If they don't fix or replace your phone, you should write a letter to the editor of one of the local techie publications and get some exposure on the issue...and, in so doing, help others to avoid a similar fate.

I will try having a Drag Racing marathone to stress it a little bit, in order to check the stability of the device or if any issue will appear again. As you might guess, ZTE's reply to the issue is no-existant and i really hope that they should have reached a solution if this unacceptable problem ever plagues me again.

Hi, this pixel error is returned? This is ROM bug? You tried the latest Virgin frimware?

No, this pixel error has fortunately not returned since the last time i posted about it. It could have been either a ROM or an application bug by the looks of it. The phone is still running on the stock ZTE rom and is rock solid. In Greece the phone is sold unbranded and unlocked

I have ZTE BLADE V from October 2013 Android version is 4.1.2. I am looking to find a later version for my phone but I'm confused about what I read.
If someone can give me some information about whether a new version (unofficial) and the installation process.

Nord vs 8 vs 7T

My 6T is on its last legs, there is something wrong with the phone reception, everyone tells me that they can barely understand me when I am on the phone (but not on Whatsapp or other VOIP apps).
Things that are important to me, arranged in order of priority
a) Best in class battery life
b) Rootable - the only two mods I do that require root are install AdBlocker and AFWall+, then I Magisk hide the InTune crap
c) 6.4-6.5" screen - smaller is too small, larger requires 2-handed opertion
d) Screen that is readable in daylight - the 6T really struggles there
e) Reasonable update schedule
f) Clean-ish Android experience
g) $800 or less price, preferably $600 or less
Things that are a don't care
1) Camera - the phone is a utility camera for me, when I want great pics I reach for a real camera
2) High pixel count or referesh rate - I mostly read news/blogs/articles on the phone
3) 5G - it ain't gonna be viable in the US for a few years, so why pay for something that just sucks battery and does nothing useful
4) Selfie lens, optical telephoto, portrait mode, etc - see #1 above
Based on the above the Nord hits all the right specs, but I am going to have to take a flier on importing it via some shady channel.
By all accounts the Pixel4a is a good phone with a sh*tty battery. The Pixel 4 is a great phone with a marginal battery. And battery is #1 for me.
Samsung prices are ridiculous
Moto software updates are non-existent
Which kind of leaves me with the OP line. From what I have read the primary difference between the 7T and the 8 is the 5G and a slight QCOM processor upgrade, which I don't care about. At this point the 8 will also get software updates a year or so longer than the 7T. But I can get the 7T for $450 tax free from B&H, while the 8 will set me back a minimum of $700+tax, for allegedly a very similar phone .
Am I missing any other important differences between the 7T and the 8?
Any suggestions on where to "safely" get a Nord in the US?
Any other phones I should cosnider?

I think you may have to wait for special Nord launch in US with snapdragon 665/662. Price about 300usd or chose Google pixel 4a with 765g snap. Smart chose. Nord wins for me cuz it's cheapest phone with best oxygen os experience. One Plus switch (APK) rock!

i would think 7T is the model to go after..
8 is as you mentioned not much an upgrade except in the price domain..
for nord (or its vairant) no matter which is imported into the US will be (subjectively) slightly worse than 7T anyway..
as an OT note, i just got myself a nord with a nearly identical set of criteria (and dis-criteria)..

Glass screen protector for OnePlus 6

After my old one broke I was searching high and low, and everywhere else for recommendations but the only ones I could find were discontinued, not glass at all, didn't ship to my country or were too expensive. After looking online in my big name stores I still couldn't find anything so I went to Aliexpress, with 0 expectations.
It costed me 1.50 euros and took almost a month to come but the quality is better than my last one, doesn't have the annoying black border. So if anyone is looking for a new screen protector and can't find one I can give this one a 5/5 recommendation.
