Would you please explain this further?
I cannot imagine how a single-speaker physical setup can be modified to dual-speaker,
unless the device can be opened up and a physical alteration made to insert another speaker,
which is more than likely impossible.
Maybe it's because my phone isn't the center of my life, but I just don't understand what's being asked here...

The "earpiece mod" uses the built-in earpiece speaker as a "second speaker", so instead of just one mono speaker at the bottom of the phone, you can get stereo audio out of the device. It's a common software modification that other devices have gotten in the past.
Thanks for defining that; i didn't know.

Hi,
Does anyone know a way to tweak a system file so that Inspire's volume is higher?
I personally find its stock volume rather low, and I want to increase it.
I downloaded Zedge. It is a free app with nice louder ringtones.
Hope this helps!
I'm wanting to up the volume system-wide. But, thanks for the info anyway
Yea, I tested a movie and sling player last night. The media volume was all the way up and it was quite.
I went from iPhone 4 (nice and louad) to Atrix 4g (nice and loud) to Inspire 4g (too quiet).
I am loving the Inspire but the sound volume and battery life are definitely the 2 big downsides of it. Still a winner over the Atrix any day though.
I personally don't have issues with the battery. I've removed all extra stuff. Even before removing them, I was happy with its battery.
It can't be that hard to change the system volume. It's done in every smartphone and OS before. Hopefully, some developer notices this thread and help us out.

I'm half deaf. Need a louder phone please.
same here, the phone volume is too low. Maybe if can acces service codes? I did it on my previous Samsung phone.
Hi, all.
So, I've been doing some digging around, and looks like there are 2 possibilities.
One is to modify the system files manually (which would be very complicated), but I personally prefer this method rather than having to install extra stuff. However, this method is not available to us unless some very smart person shares the method with us.
Two, which seems to be the only viable option at the moment, is DSP Manager. As far as I understand, it used to be available through ROM Manager, but it is no longer there. I saw a thread that said the author was not releasing it anymore because most MOD developers were now including it in their ROMs from the beginning.
So, if we can find a way to install DSP Manager, we may be able to tweak the max speaker volume. But, that's as far as I could find. I'd need someone smarter to look into this.
Hi,
An update and a new idea.
First, DSP Manager doesn't work on Inspire 4G, so don't bother.
Second,
Here's a new idea I have about the low volume sound fix. I just read a comment from HTC employee who said, "The front speaker is for phone calls and the rear speaker is for everything else."
In other words, if we can find a way to keep the front speaker enabled all the time, we should be able to get more sound. I don't know much about what kind of coding is involved in routing sounds from each speaker, but I wonder if this would be an easier hack than trying to increase the entire system volume, which may still feel low volume for as long as we can't get any sound out of the front speaker.
Maybe someone smart can add to this possibility?
#1! I like to use voice recordings as scheduled reminders, and the playback volume out of the rear speaker is way too low.
I did notice the low volume on a movie i downloaded but you never can tell with those sorts of things. Overall the sounds is incredible even through the speakers with (SRS) and dolby mobile.
Could use something to ++output level.
Id like to see an app to change audio volume levels while recording video.
(ive only had the phone a couple days i returned my samsung Cap upgrade for the 4g, forgive me if there is such an app out there)
How often do you go to watch an awesome looking concert video and the sound is trash? It would make for some beautiful recordings i think. I have yet to test this one, but the Captivate could not record decent sound at all in loud environment.
I personally have come to believe that it is really not that the "volume" is low but rather a "wrong" speaker is being used. I mean, if the main speaker is on the back facing away from us, of course we don't hear much sound. If you flip the phone while playing music or video, you'll notice that the sound is actually loud enough. So, if we can enable the front speaker for normal use, I really think that it'll be just fine.
about every HTC phone has a quiet speaker. but cyanogen typically always includes the audio boost add-on. so i'd just wait for cyanogen 7 to include it, and your troubles will be solved.
well, even if the volume is boosted, as long as the sound is coming out of the rear speaker, if you place your phone on its back on a table or something, the sound will still suffer. It makes more sense to find a way to enable the front speaker.
Most of all phone have a rear facing speaker. But some phone are loud and some are not..

No, they don't lol. (you may be right if you are talking about specific brand or series, but certainly not "most of all phones").
I just came across something that may be relevant to the audio routing, but I'm not smart enough to figure them out. If anybody wants to take a look at it, it would be great:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/AudioManager.html
There are several lines there that talk about Routing.

This may sound ridiculous but works!
Hi, all.
I just came up with a very simple workaround for "only when you are watching a video or something."
Now, you're gonna probably laugh, but trust me. It really works.
Just play any video, and hold your phone as if you are scooping water. The key is the left hand. When you cup your left hand around the rear speaker, it creates a echoing chamber that redirect all sound toward you. You'll be able to hear the sound much better.

When I am on speaker phone (no headset attached) please say I break up when speaking - every time. However when I have a headset attached or use the phone normally its perfect.
Anyone else have this issue?

Do you have your phone turned upside down or screen facing up when on speakerphone?

Yes it does.
It does? Is the mic for speaker phone different than the one for regular use? Maybe that's the issue...
I have to agree, the speakerphone with stock rom seems to have poor functionality. I'm usually holding the phone with the microphone (which I assume is the little hole next to the USB port) directed toward my mouth, but callers usually have difficulty understanding me and the speaker tends to exhibit a lot of static.

So custom ROMS do better with this specifically?
So I've been an Xperia flagship user ever since the T, and it has gotten miles better. I currently own the Z5. One of the main reasons I love sony smartphones is their excellent audio quality - and as an audiophile that spends quite a lot of money on very good equipment, it really is leaps and bounds above the competition as far as transparency and soundstage is concerned.
However, traditionally, Xperias (and many other smartphones to my knowledge) have suffered from a rather low volume output - and this is, in case some of you don't know, not because of a weak AMP, but because of a software limit imposed by the EU health regulators.
I've used many fiio and creative portable amps in the past, but have always gone back to not using them (and selling them) because they take a lot from the portability advantages of a smartphone, plus they cancel any mic input.
Therefore, I was wondering, is there ANY exploit or way to bypass this volume limit, through a customized firmware, mod, etc? Because i truly love the way the Z5 processes the music, but i'd really appreciate a slight increase in audio output, since i mostly use them in the subway.
Also, just in case any of you would like to suggest it, no, the "volume booster" apps do absolutely nothing.
So, you guys know of any way to uncap this volume limit?
thanks!
Can you select location as north America or rest of the world anywhere as they don't have the restriction laws. I can't remember now if it asks you somewhere on initial set up

You can but it's the same thing. it's actually related to the firmware version. So a non eu firmware version could work in order to flash it.
Anyone has one ? (that also has the english language supported)
Anyone figure this out?

If you unlock bootloader and root, you'll probably have success with your problem. You could try:
- Viper4android (volume boost options for headphone and speaker, along with excellent other features)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223 Unfortunately i couldn't find any information about the compatibility with xperia z5 line. Maybe you also have to set SELinux policy to permissive, or use some other strategies following guides for Z3 Lollipop. You have to try yourself
- adapting sound mods like these http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/z3-speakers-incoming-call-headphones-t2889964
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/stereo-speakers-sound-mod-v3-2-z323-0-1-t3015912
Note that mixer_paths.xml file on Z5 is different and they might not work.
- maybe some "volume boost" apps with ROOT access
My suggestion is to try Viper4android first, then try to search for some volume boost apps from developers on xda, then, if nothing works, play with mixer_paths.xml file.
If you have success with any of them, please report it here.

Sure no problem, can possibly be done in kernel but definitely in system.
In /system/etc/ there's a file named mixer_paths.xml, you can edit anything there.
Aux, usb audio, Bluetooth, incoming and outgoing audio, mic and dualmic volumes, speaker volumes etc etc.
Just remember, the first half of the code is audio path routing. Second half is volume settings.
Example:
1 Aux (routing)
2 usb (routing)
3 Bluetooth (routing)
4 mic (routing)
5 etc etc..(routing)
1 Aux (digital volume)
2 usb (digital volume)
3 Bluetooth (digital volume)
4 mic (digital volume)
5 etc etc..(digital volume)
You can edit any digital volume, remember to test safely and raise volume slowly when testing.
Also, Rx is a channel, so when there's Rx1 and Rx2 digital volume 70, u want to change to volume 80, u gotta change both as one is left and one is right channel.
Oh, by the way, u need root for this.
Hello dear friends,
My OPO had all its microphone components replaced but that did not solve the issue, only on speakerphone does the other side hear me, thus i cannot use it in public...which is rather annoying.
The next option was to switch the audio chip component on the PCB, but that is both risky and expensive.. rendering this option not so favorable..
I know of such file that tells the phone which mic works at what mode, but im not a coder my self.. I was wondering if one such good soul would be kind enough to make me that file and guide me how to replace my original one, so that my phone will be spared from the bin... Phone is rooted, with TWN recovery.
thanks.

Hello,
I'm wondering how I might override the volume on my device in order to make the loudspeaker... louder. My device is rooted and has SmartPack Kernel app on it.
Any help is appreciated.
i am using this app. Hope this answers your question.

Well it did help and it has also made me realize how loud I listen to music with headphones on. My iphone which I use as a music player gets very loud whether it's the loudspeaker or using headphones. With the app you suggested I can tell the Note 3 is getting very old it doesn't handle its volume being overridden well, it sounded distorted and unclear (I had it at 5% boosted).
Oh well, I can live with how it is as-is.
Gave it another shot today.
I rooted the device and then flashed LOLZ kernel and with SmartPark have been able to up the decibels for the headphone jack and for whatever reason SmartPack's method doesn't distort the audio like the Booster app did.

Perhaps. I fear that my phone is going to be toast soon, the loudspeaker is starting to get that airy failing noise of a speaker sound haha.
I upped the decibel for the loudspeaker by 2% and the headphone jack I think to 3-4%.
BUT even before I did that to the loudspeaker it was giving me that failing sound.

It's just getting old, I guess. Either I'll have to upgrade soon or keep replacing parts.
