I've searched, but can't find any information on 802.11r (wifi fast roaming) support on the Pixel 3a.
Does anyone know of a reference that will answer this question?
I've tested a few wifi mesh systems, and fast roaming rarely seems to work properly. I'm just want to know if the Pixel is the problem, or the mesh.

I don't even know how I could begin troubleshooting. My Pixel is rooted if that matters, and is on the latest Oreo update (I am not upgrading to Pie until GravityBox is ported).
Out of seemingly nowhere, the Wi-Fi tether range is beyond horrible. Basically my phone has to be within AN INCH OR TWO of my Laptop/Nintendo Switch/etc for it to connect. It used to connect from a different room!
Does anybody know what could be going on? It's not the Wi-Fi chip (I don't think) because it connects to WiFi networks just fine. The only issue is range when the tethering is active.
I am guessing this is some sort of battery-saving mode? But I have no idea how it was "enabled" because I have been on the latest update for months.
This is making my life miserable because I use my hotspot for things like my laptop and my iPad and it's completely unrealistic to use it like this. It *WILL* in fact connect, but like I said, the phone has to be within INCHES of the device!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Anyone? Is there somewhere else I should post it here since it's more of a general hardware issue?
Hi all!
This is a problem I've been experiencing for a while. When using the pixel 3 as a WiFi hotspot my download speeds are considerably slower than the actual network top speed. I'm talking 20mb/s vs 130mb/s. Switched the SIM to a Samsung phone and the hotspot works at the maximum speed available.
At the same time, despite selecting 5ghz preferred, the pixel 3 doesn't use it at all. Tried this with a laptop, Samsung Galaxy S9 and a PS4. They all connect to the 2.4ghz and download speed is really slow. Again this issue is not present when using the same SIM in the Samsung.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
P.S. This is my 3rd Pixel 3 as the official Google support insisted it was a hardware issue
So this may be more of a Fi question but it also relates to the 4a. Since getting my 4a I've seen a couple of articles talking about setting up the eSim on Fi in addition to the physical sim (also Fi) to improve reception which I find to be a bit worse than the Pixel 4. Has anyone heard of this and or done it? Did it improve anything?
Hi,
I just got my x3 nfc and I was testing it. It is constantly losing the 5g connection to my router and default to the 2.4g.
I checked with Wifi Analyzer and it shows -20mdB more than normal, by normal I mean, I checked on an other phone (sony) and on the same 5g same spot it shows the difference (Sony -60mdB and X3 -80mdB)
Is anyone else experiencing issues on the 5g wifi? in case, anyone knows if it is a software issue on this model or an hardware issue?
Are you on a custom ROM?
There are multiple reports of poor wifi connectivity around -- apparently, they all lag behind stock ROMs, which aren't themselves perfect on this aspect.

I am still on stock. my big doubt is if this is an hardware flaw of this model or just a software issue that could be fixed in the feature.. I am not sure if the antenna is physically for both 2.4g and 5g or it is separate, as the 2.4g have a good signal, at least at the same level of the other phones. It is just the 5g that is drammatically poor even in front of the router. If I try to use it after a while it fallback to the 2.4g

Lately I noticed that my data drops when I'm calling with my Pixel 4a. Does anyone knows how to fix this? I've reset the network settings, deleted APN settings, reboot etc but nothing works do far. I've called Google but they only give me the "fixes" I've just mentioned.
Nobody?
Still nothing but did some tests :
I've put my sim in my friends Samsung S20 and it works fine.
I've put my friends sim in my Pixel 4a and have the same problem.
My girlfriend has also a Pixel 4a and has the same problem.
Conclusion so far : The problem is with the Pixel 4a, not with the sim
Today I've putted another sim in my Pixel 4a (different provider) and this time I had no data drop when calling.
New conclusion : My provider's sim and the Pixel 4a don't like each other
Depending on carrier, If it switches to 3G that means that the carrier's network does not have sufficient capacity for VoLTE and LTE is only for data.
Mine provider does this and i see it switching before a call.
Well it doesn't make sense to me at all. My carrier's sim does work flawless in a Samsung.
