I'm currently in contract with optus in Aus, if I get my phone unlocked will it increase the speed of updates? Is there a downside?
That's my theory as well but I do not know!

I have four Sprint devices [two are GS3s] that I'd like to use on Verizon.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do something like that?
Verizon says that I can't use a Sprint device, but is it possible to flash something that will make it look like a Verizon device?
Thanks- I need to know whether to try to sell these phones or not.
Don't quote me on this, but I thought Sprint devices had integrated sim cards, only accessible via mods?
Assuming I'm wrong, you'd first need to check that the radio on the sprint variants supports any of Verizon's bandwidths. From there I'm not sure. Maybe flash a Verizon ROM and test? I'll do some research when I get home and let you know if I find anything useful.

Alright, did some reading. From what I can tell, the Sprint GS3 will have limited connectivity at best. The reason being that the radios do not in fact support the same bandwidths.
Verizon's S3 supports:
LTE 750
CDMA 850 / 1900
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
Sprint's S3 supports:
LTE 1900
CDMA 800 / 850 / 1900
US Cellular version adds CDMA 1700, LTE 700/850/1700
Verizon operates on LTE at 750 (mhz?) only, so that's a definite no-go on the LTE. As far as the CMDA 850 matching up - you might get some connectivity, such as voice, maybe 1x data/3g data, but I don't really know enough about the topic to speak with any certainty.
Hope this helps.
You can't anyway because Sprint and Verizon phones are locked because of cdma regulations or something like that.

My Verizon Note 2 is unlocked factory. T mobile sim cards work fine, I've tested it, just no data because the bandwidths aren't supported by the radio.

That's different. Note 2 is hardware unlocked so that you can switch to any carrier or use any rom worldwide thanks to your root method. Not the same for the GSIII. In Adam Outler's first Casual method for Note 2, he has a video explaining just how far unlocked the phone is and what you can flash since the hardware (as in the insides) is unchanged worldwide.

Obviously. Not disputing that - in fact I was more or less observing it. He said that CDMA phones are locked or "something like that" . That statement could be misleading to some, indicating that ALL CDMA phones are locked due to "regulations", when I know for a fact they are not.

They're locked in a way that makes it to where you cannot switch to Sprint if you're using a Verizon phone and voice versa. So they are in fact locked. Not gsm locked though. Cdma phones are locked. Our phones are gsm capable.

It may be carrier unlocked, but the bootloader is locked down and I think that's what the OP was asking about.
Sim unlocked i mean

The phone is unlocked, multiple people are reporting using it fine on T-Mobile (the only issue is using LTE and 2G/3G at the same time, doesn't seem to be possible at this time)
Hello all...
So i am on the Verizon Network (at least until i can get over to T-Mobile) and I am frustrated with Verizon because of their whole locked bootloader business.
I want to get the Galaxy S5 but i won't since its bootloader is locked just like the S4. Well the next hottest phone is out the HTC-One M8. Now i heard a rumor that there is a way to unlock the bootloader on the M8.
Can anyone confirm that this is true for the Verizon M8 HTC-ONE ?
I would really appreciate it any confirmation that anyone can give me.

Thanks a lot.........
Thank you to all who replied. This phone and and the firewater exploit may actually keep me on Verizon a bit longer. I am going to leave Verizon because of how they continue to lock their bootloaders but this is great news!
I wonder why it is that we can unlock this one but the galaxy series phones and others can not be unlocked?
Was it because this bootloader for the HTC m8 was not encrypted or is this due to htc-dev?
Still great news...I hope OmniRom makes a rom for this phone!

I would stay away from T-Mobile, their coverage is horrible...I get full reception where people with T-Mobile have none. You may be able to buy the developer s5 if you really like the s5
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using xda app-developers app
Ya I know that T-Mobile's 4G isn't the same as Verizon. I always have great coverage and speed with verizon but I pay an arm and leg. I pay for 10gb of data a month and that adds up.
I would rather have a phone that I can do whatever I want and now that T-Mobile offers unlimited data on their 4G network I think I am going to have to switch...

Anyone know what custom recovery is being used for the m8?
Any chance of TWRP or CWM recovery managers?...

I was looking to buy a used Nexus 5 for a nominal price from eBay, but the phone is locked to a carrier that I don't want to switch to. Is there someone on the forum who can provide unlock codes? I tried doing Google searches, but all of them return unlocking guide for the bootloader. Has anyone unlocked their Nexus 5?
It comes unlocked. It isn't locked to any carrier.

Are you sure? The guy who has it says he bought it from carrier, and it's locked to it.

This has come up many times. As the others said, All N5's, even those sold by carriers, are unlocked.
I would use the seller's ignorance against him to get a better price. Tell him it's going to cost you $40 to unlock it and that he's going to have a tough time selling it locked to a carrier. You'll take it if he knocks off the cost of unlocking
Planning a trip to Korea. If I buy a local SIM when I arrive, can I use a stock Verizon Note 5 in Korea?
Thanks!
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
It depends on the frequencies the carriers there use. You can look up compatibility on https://www.frequencycheck.com/ Bear in mind, you'll probably have to enter the APN info for whatever carrier you choose to get data working. HTH
Thanks. So the Note 5 is not SIM locked?
