Planning a trip to Korea. If I buy a local SIM when I arrive, can I use a stock Verizon Note 5 in Korea?
Thanks!

It depends on the frequencies the carriers there use. You can look up compatibility on https://www.frequencycheck.com/ Bear in mind, you'll probably have to enter the APN info for whatever carrier you choose to get data working. HTH
Thanks. So the Note 5 is not SIM locked?

Can this phone be used on Straight Talk via Sim card?
If so will it be carrier unlocked like my GP Nexus 5 or will I need to have it unlocked?

all nexus 5 are unlocked, no matter what sprint employees tell you. and with a sim card, they will also work on tmobiles and atts network,. so yea, pop in the right sim and itll work on straight talk.
Thanks homie

I received my Nexus 5 before leaving to work and on my lunch brake I took my full size AT&T Sim card out of my S2 and trimmed it to fit, popped it in and works great.I did need to activate the IMEI the next day and have had strong LTE

Hey all.
Lifelong Verizon user looking at the Nexus 5. Would have to go with Sprint as they are the only other carrier with coverage in my area (and only 3G for the time being).
I've had many Android devices in the past and have unlocked/rooted/flashed them all. I'm only used to CDMA/LTE and seeing carrier specific branding on custom ROMs though. Does it not matter with the N5? I thought there was a difference between Sprint (LTE) and AT&T/T-Mobile (GSM) but perhaps I'm mistaken. Would appreciate any clarification.
Thanks.
Nexus 5 isn't available for Verizon. Nexus has the radio frequencies for sprint T-Mobile and at&t so all you need is the APN and it works

Yeah like I said I'd be looking at switching to Sprint. Curious about the custom ROM question I posed, thanks.

Look for small local GSM or cdma carriers in your area such as mine in Hawaii we have mobipcs and they told me the nexus 5 works on their network

Sadly I'm from a farm community and we don't have much here. Verizon and US Cellular CDMA/LTE and Sprint 3G are the only carriers we have with data coverage.

Actually I hadn't looked at AT&T in a few months and looks like we picked up their LTE recently!

Welcome to the nexus 5 world if you can hold for a couple more months and want T-Mobile they will usually follow behind after At&t

What about Page Plus? Granted it isn't LTE but it is something.

Sprint should have lte everywhere in the coming months. If its not there yet it will be soon.
With custom roms most have cdma implemented and work fine.
What is your location?

"Soon" the term soon and "coming" is very potent in sprint

Can any users outside U.S especially with EXYNOS variant of Samsung Galaxy S7 confirm that whether we are able to use FM Radio with the help of NextRadio App from playstore? U.S Carriers are making updates and SD820 variants are able to access this feature.
Not yet (at least on the Canadian model)

Nope, does not work (Aus Model)
Interesting. Here's what mine says.....

Thanks mate . Is yours Samsung Galaxy S7 carrier branded device????
The Canadian ones technically are unlocked until you put in a SIM card - then it downloads the carrier stuff (which is not much actually).
Rogers & Bell said it's up to manufacturers to enable the chip and the carriers don't dictate this (yeah, I'm laughing with you at this).

So, title says it all. Is it possible to buy a factory unlocked note 5 (like say...perhaps from Ebay), root it and then use it on Verizon?
Yea but you might not get 4glte only 3g, why would you do that though when the Verizon note 5 has already been rooted?

Thank you for your quick response. I haven't seen where the Verizon variant has been rooted. Do you have a link?

iroot doesn't work for Verizon and in the second link it doesn't work for Verizon, either.
Yah your right I didn't fully read through the comments, u can use a T-Mobile for Verizon I did it for the note 4 before it got rooted and worked on Verizon without 4g, but I was getting really fast 3g speeds at least 10/20 mbps, the note 4 is also a great phone that is rooted on verizon

Thnx. I was considering the Note 4 but am quite frustrated with how Verizon is trying to lock us down lately. While I've had Samsung devices for a long time, I'm now thinking about the Nexus 6P...
I would go with nexus for sure or one plus devixe, but the note 4 retail editions have now all been successful in converting to developer editions witch is really dope, it brought life back to my device.

When I was on sprint last year I paid off my contract and my phone unlocked automatically.
Not sure about the bands tho.
