I was looking to buy a used Nexus 5 for a nominal price from eBay, but the phone is locked to a carrier that I don't want to switch to. Is there someone on the forum who can provide unlock codes? I tried doing Google searches, but all of them return unlocking guide for the bootloader. Has anyone unlocked their Nexus 5?
It comes unlocked. It isn't locked to any carrier.

All good devices are unlocked. There's US version and rest of the world version. It has both CDMA and gsm capabilities

Are you sure? The guy who has it says he bought it from carrier, and it's locked to it.

This has come up many times. As the others said, All N5's, even those sold by carriers, are unlocked.
I would use the seller's ignorance against him to get a better price. Tell him it's going to cost you $40 to unlock it and that he's going to have a tough time selling it locked to a carrier. You'll take it if he knocks off the cost of unlocking

Did you unlock it?
SIM/carrier unlock should be different from bootloader unlock?
Do we have a way of getting this phones unlock code - or does this not apply to this device?
..CDMA device. Regardless if unlocked for another SP will not work on a GSM locked network in the US. GSM networks system will not recognize the CDMA IMEI.

This has been answered about 4 times this week alone. All Nexus 5's are unlocked! Your Nexus 5 is the same D820 model that the Google Play Store sell. T-Mobile has not made any modifications to it. No carrier bloatware, it's not carrier locked, no T-Mobile WiFi calling installed, etc.
It's 100% unlocked and 100% the same as the one on the Play Store! Pure Google!

The boot loader is actually locked. Unlocking it is the same as the Play Store model/version. Or if you just want root look for CF-Autoroot.

don't use chainfire to root your phone follow the sticky in general.
There is no physical/software difference between the two. The only thing special about it is that your phone is flagged as a T-Mobile device since T-Mobile knows your serial number (or some other identification number). AFAIK, this allows you to download the t-mobile voicemail app from the play store.

So if I get the device off Google play website I won't be able to use my T-Mobile insurance if something goes wrong with the device? I would save $50 if purchased from google

I believe you will still be able to utilize T-Mobile's insurance. Its not like its an At&t or Sprint specific phone then it would be understandable why T-Mobile won't cover it. T-Mobile sells the very same phone as the one on the Play Store so it shouldn't be an issue.
Note: If you do decide to buy the Nexus 5 from the Play Store then you'll be covered under a manufacturers warranty. Its not exactly the same as T-Mobile's insurance but it will cover any software and/or hardware defects (minus a cracked screen or water damage).

I don't think you can get the insurance if you didn't purchase it from them. I have T-Mobile and I wasn't given that option.

In the past, when I was with T-Mobile I used to always get phones off of Craigslist and I would sometimes send them to T-Mobile for a warranty exchange. As far as I know the insurance is transferable from device to device. Of course it won't be if you have an At&t branded device but if T-Mobile has the device in their lineup then I don't see why they wouldn't honor it and give you another one if you pay monthly for their insurance service.

That's correct, the insurance is attached to the line, not the phone.

Can't find any concrete answers. Does the M8 Developer Edition work on Verizon's network?

Definitely NOT. The Google Play store mentions in a footnote that it will only work on T-Mobile & AT&T.

It could still work, we'd need someone to test. The M7 developer edition supported T-Mobile but only on 3G/FauxG. But flashing the T-Mobile radio to it enabled LTE connectivity.

Possibly. But the spec sheet for our model doesn't mention the T-Mobile compatibility we've seen so far. I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if HTC just used software/firmware to disable bands (or maybe not at all) in order to avoid making 5+ different pieces of hardware.

According to the website, yes. But it very likely has the CDMA radio hardware in there in order to save HTC the cost of manufacturing multiple devices. Much like how our locked model can connect to T-Mobile LTE, though you will find no mention of those bands being supported.

Well, I guess that's a good point. I guess I'm just so used to instantly voiding my warranties every time I get a new phone or tablet I don't even think about that...
I buy phone in USA . Check imei in t-mobile . phone in white list . live in east europe . i click Permanent Unlock but write "Failed" . how unlock ?
you have to wait 40 days before you can ask T-Mobile to unlock your new phone.
maybe someone has a sample letter which should then write to t-mobile
i search video but I do not know whether it's true

Thing is, I sent messages to ebay sellers offering unlock for $100+ and they're also saying service is down.
There's simply no unlock service for T-Mobile S7.
We must do something.
