Well, as far as I know there is no hope...
I am in the same situation.
I wanted to have the chrome unlocked version, exclusive to Carphone Warehouse in the UK, so I got mine from CW.
I had many chat with EE and they say that most modern / recent phones support WiFi calling out of the box BUT not the XZP... It has to be purchased "direct" from EE so that it has the firmware that enables WiFi calling...
I asked to Sony support Why they don't include WiFi calling settings in their firmware, as Samsung, Apple, HTC, Huawei, Microsoft,... Do? . They simply replied that this is not their responsibility but the one of the operator... I, don't care!
So, the choice is simple :
XZP unlocked in chrome and no WiFi calling or EEocked black phone with WiFi calling...
I have 28 days return with CW... But will stick with the unlock one. Perhaps in the futur I will flash the EE Firmware, but for now, I don't use WiFi calling enough for that...
With some hope, but unlikely, maybe Sony will include the WiFi setting in their future firmware (if enough people ask for it?)
You dont need to buy direct from EE. It is enough if you just flash the EE version of the image on it https://xpericheck.com/cda/1308-6282
Check around in the forums how the flashing can be done.

Indeed, I could flash an EE firmware, but not sure how to troubleshoot if things go wrong !!! hence I will wait a bit longer for that... (and waiting for the ROM to be widely available.)..
My XZP is from O2. Ive got it unlocked and both O2 and EE wifi calling working. My operator is EE but it was cheaper to buy it from O2.

CW phone is unlocked to all networks so it has different firmware than branded unit. Look around for EE or O2 firmware to get wifi calling enabled.
I've just flashed EE firmware. Wifi Call works even better.

If Vodafone list it as a compatible handset when running their firmware then I don't see why not.

I would like to try this. But my phone is already setup and without root I can't use my trusty Titanium Backup to backup and restore all my apps and settings. A couple of questions I hope you have time to answer:
1. What flash tool did you use to install this? I found the firmware with Xperifirm, but it doesn't look like flashtool-0.9.23.1 is compatible with our phone yet.
2. Did this wipe your phone?
3. Does this firmware come with any EE branding or bloatware?
Thank you for your time.

@robdevil
What are the differences between the EE and Customised UK firmware?
Do you have a EE splash screen when starting and any EE bloatware / limitation?
I am also on a carphone warehouse phone and wondering if I should flash the EE firmware to get the Wifi calling ( I have it enabled on my EE account already and was used to use it in the past on a different phone)...
Thanks.
Tony.
Customized UK loads "telefonica_UK" configuration for any SIM inserted, which means no VoWIFI(wifi calling) or VoLTE. You definately need operator based firmware flashed to get Wifi calling and/or Volte.
No difference at all. My EE app is preloaded I think. That's it.

I can confirm this. The only differences that I noticed was the myEE app. And outlook security instead of avast security. I can't find the wifi calling setting in the EE rom though. My provider is supposed to support it, but I don't see any settings in the rom to enable it.
Edit: I checked with my providers app. It shows that wi-fi calling is not supported on my device. I'll try the O2 firmware to see if that works.
Edit2: Actually, I see the O2 firmware is still on the July security update. Security is more important to me than wi-fi calling. So I guess I'll just keep running the EE firmware.

Are you on EE pay monthly plan? You wont get WiFi Call or VoLTE if you are on Pay As You Go. You should see wifi calling settings if you flashed it correctly on both O2 and EE firmwares.

Hi Rob,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm not on EE or O2. But my provider started to offer wifi calling on some phone models. Even if not purchased from them. For example the Samsung Galaxy S7 has it built in. But they don't support the Sony by default because it doesn't come with wifi calling built-in. So I thought it might show up with the EE or O2 firmware. But it didn't. I just need to go to my providers service point and ask them to force enable it for my phone to see if it works.
ishemes, so what provider you are using then and in which country ?

I'm with the provider Partner (used to be Orange) in Israel. Unfortunately they don't carry the Sony Xperia XZ premium phone. So no official support. The generic Israeli firmware does not have wifi calling in the firmware.
Quick Question
Sorry to jump on a slightly old thread...
I bought a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact for my other half. Brand new from EBay, unlocked, but doesnt have the Wi-fi calling feature, so from what I could find on a forum on EE it seems the Z5 compact has Wi-fi calling (the forum is giving instructions on how to turn it on specifically for teh Z5 and Z5 compact)
Only, reaeding this forum about phones having to be bought from the carrier to use the Wi-fi calling, I am now wondering am I going to be wasting my time buying a refurbed Z5 off Ebay, unless its locked to EE?
Thank you for any help!!
Gemma
P.S. I am the sort of girl capable of flashing, however i'd prefer not to have to do this, because I don't like interfering if I dont really need to

You might get more help by posting in the Z3 Compact or the Z5 Compact forums.
The way it works on the XZP/XZ1/XZ1c is via a set of settings overlays that are in the OEM partition.
Sony puts out different firmware for different carriers and the carrier specific items (like VoWiFI and VoLTE) are contained in the OEM partition contents of that carrier specific firmware.
If the Z5/Z5c work the same way, you should be able to get any E6653 (Z5) or E5823 (Z5c) model phone and download the EE customized firmware with XperiFirm and flash it to the phone. It should be the same as having bought the phone directly from EE with the same features and bloatware.
Again though, I don't have the Z3/5/c series and haven't dug into the firmware images, so you should check in with the people in the forums I've listed above.
Could someone explain to me how it is possible?
In settings i don't have VoLTE option (Enhanced 4G/LTE mode) for on/off, VoLTE is available on my network in Croatia (Croatian Telecom) and IMS is registered.
But when I check with code *#*#4636#*#*, VoLTE provisioned is gray and cannot be enabled...

Same here, though I am on the Telenor network in Norway. My carrier has opened up for it and it is enabled for my subscription in the network, but I can't activate VoLTE on my phone. Thought this option was going to be activated with the June update?
Well the same is for my network. As far as i know, your network provider needs to certify the device, this case our n7p, to be able to use volte. What you could do is perhaps reach out for support and ask them to make n7p certified

I've been having the same problem, here is what I found:
If you are willing to root your device, it appears to be possible to get VoLTE working: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/help/activate-volte-wifi-calling-nokia-7-plus-t3854829
Otherwise, wait for Google to implement a way to switch SIM profiles. The problem has been reported: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/112570301
Edit: Nevermind, Google labeled the issues "Won't Fix (Obsolete)" and "Won't Fix (Infeasible)" two days ago. So its up to Nokia to implement a way to get VoLTE working, which I don't see happening soon. Apparently Googles answer is: Buy an Iphone if you want VoLTE outside the US.

Good for you.
As far as I know, noone in Germany (perhabs even most of europe) has VoLTE on any unrooted Android One device. I have been bounced back and forth between the support of my provider and Nokia, they are both blaming the other party. And Googles answer to this obvious design flaw is: Won't fix.
So now its up to Nokia to create their own API in order to support VoLTE, i.e. providing their own version of Android. I don't thinks that was the point of the Android One program that I bought this device for.
So, while I was being hyperbolic, there aren't many options if you want VoLTE/VoWifi: Root your phone and void your waranty, buy a branded Samsung (some Motorola devices work too, I think), buy a Pixel and use it with a Google-partnered provider or buy an iPhone and use it with any provider you like. Wasn't too long ago that people switched to Android because iPhones only worked with specific carriers and people blamed Apple for bad policies. Now its the other way around, at least for this particular feature.
I recently got a Huawei P30 phone and i have a strong interest in using Google Fi's service. Unfortunately I don't see my phone in the compatibility list in Google Fi's page. Has anyone here tried using Google Fi on their Huawei P30 phones? I'm planning on going to China next year and would like to have my phone working there without having to buy a chinese SIM card.
You will never see the P30 or multiple other phones listed on Google Fi page however it should work fine based upon its supported LTE /3g/2g bands. It will likely not be able to automatically switch between T-mobile and Sprint LTE bands however T-mobile works fine for most people. You can always install Fi Switch if you want to try manually switching carriers. I have a Mi8 that's been running on Fi for a while now without issue. I'd be interested in getting a P30 however with the current locked bootloader I'll pass.

Thank you for your reply.
To my understanding, T-Mobile and Sprint are not available in China or outside the USA. How will Google Fi work in this case? Do all the features work outside the USA?
And what does a locked bootloader means? Does it mean I can not install custom ROMS on it or what exactly?
I apologise because i'm completely new to this scene

Hi,
Went to the local shop, opened the SIM tray and we saw there were connectors for 2 SIM cards. Seems that there is only the SIM tray (easy to modify) that changes in the hardware.
My question is : is it possible to modify the software/phone for it to recognise 2 SIM cards like the Chinese variant?

But i was able to adapt it and it recognized the second sim. But won't connect the second sim to the network as it doesn't have a second IMEI "yet".
So trying to find solutions with some friends.

A quick question, what happens if you pull the SIM1 (the fully working one) out? Does the SIM2 (the limited one) work now?
And what if you physically switch them in the SIM card tray?
This might be a great test to whether it's a physical or a software limitation.

SIM1 + SIM2 = you only see the information
SIM2 only = it says insert sim
SIM2 SIm into SIM1 slot = works normal
we tried "nearly" everything, and the only possibility would be to unlock bootloader, and flash a ROM with pieces of the Chinese ROM and still there we might not even make it work as there is no second IMEI - I guess it's possible to flash it one way or the other, but to much work. It's easier to buy the chinese one, adb pm (delete) what apps you want to delete (like the launcher, we test on the global x2Pro with nova installed and it worked fine.

Maybe only for you. I used to buy dual sim phones in the past, but nowadays network providers have all-in packages which allows me to use my sim in the EU with no extra cost.

That is correct. But I compared the bands, and they are the exactly the same as the Chinese version. Now I'm sending back the global version and getting the Chinese from wondamobile Monday.
Will be testing it and making the changes I need to make it work. We also tested the launcher issue, and it's an easy fix. So if you NEED dual SIM I think the Chinese version will be fine unless you need languages that are not on the Chinese firmware.

Of course, I forgot to mention it's just my opinion; I have access to some data-only packages which offer unlimited data with decent speeds - these data plans would utilize dual SIM the best.
Anyway, may I ask you couple of questions (mostly just clarifications):
- Is there eSIM possibility for the Find X2 Pro?
- VoLTE and VoWiFi working?
- Is there any notification restriction (autostart - as other guys have mentioned for the Chinese version)?
- Can you set your fingerprint as an access to some apps/password fill (the same way Samsung does it with One UI)?
Thank you Sir!
That's for you. But I have two lines work and private. Thus I need two Sims.

I still hope the Global ROM will be successfully ported on a Chinese device as, from what I understood, the PDEM software has some limitations regarding notifications and running apps? Furthermore I'd appreciate VoLTE and Hey Google fully running.
I don't think it will be an issue. VOLTE is often a carrier/manufacturer issue. I had that probleme with a op7p before, and there was a quick fix for it... I'm not really worried about it.
As of the ok Google thing...we will see. Let me get the phone between my hand and I'll see that with Mauro.

As far as I know there is no eSim option (I've read somewhere)
Both VoLTE and VoWIFI working

IMEIs are primarily used as an anti-theft measure and adding or changing them is made all but impossible as a result.
I was considering getting this phone (there is a crazy deal for it available in Germany at the moment) but the lack of Dual-SIM is really making me hesitate. It feels so arbitrary that they removed it and practically all devices in this price range feature it. And wireless charging. Who ever though that wireless charging was superfluous -.-

I'm rooted, Can someone let me know what would be the best way of getting this option activated? Is there a Magisk or Xposed/Lsposed module that may force it? Vodafone UK definitely support it, the same sim card had WiFi calling working on my unbranded Note 10 Plus.

how do you know that VoLTE is disabled? Expect the VoLTE toggle will be hidden... Are you seeing the device fallback to 3G when trying to make a 4G call?

When I'm at home, my signal in some locations of my house is virtually non-existent. Previously, on my Note 10 Plus with the same sim card, WiFi Calling was a toggle in the network settings and, when on, I would have a clear notification icon on the status bar showing WiFi calling was in use when the phone was struggling to get a signal. I get no such notification on the Pixel nor is there a toggle when I've read elsewhere there should be.
voLTE isn't a concern, it's WiFi calling I want for when I'm at home.
I have just one simple question for Google...why do they ship the phone to non-supported countries from their official Amazon store?
Like...if you ship...make sure all features work?

You would be one of the first ones to try
The Pixel 6 method could work perhaps since they are both Shannons

Its not that Google doesn't support everything. Mobile carrier also need to implement device-specific attributes.

Google removed the WiFi calling icon a while ago in an android update or at least made it less visible. Would expect a toggle for wifi calling though in your call settings though. might be if it's not yet enabled, it'll come in a software update

People in non-supported countries still want a pixel device... VoLTE support isn't cheap or easy and Pixel is still growing
