Well, as far as I know there is no hope...
I am in the same situation.
I wanted to have the chrome unlocked version, exclusive to Carphone Warehouse in the UK, so I got mine from CW.
I had many chat with EE and they say that most modern / recent phones support WiFi calling out of the box BUT not the XZP... It has to be purchased "direct" from EE so that it has the firmware that enables WiFi calling...
I asked to Sony support Why they don't include WiFi calling settings in their firmware, as Samsung, Apple, HTC, Huawei, Microsoft,... Do? . They simply replied that this is not their responsibility but the one of the operator... I, don't care!
So, the choice is simple :
XZP unlocked in chrome and no WiFi calling or EEocked black phone with WiFi calling...
I have 28 days return with CW... But will stick with the unlock one. Perhaps in the futur I will flash the EE Firmware, but for now, I don't use WiFi calling enough for that...
With some hope, but unlikely, maybe Sony will include the WiFi setting in their future firmware (if enough people ask for it?)
You dont need to buy direct from EE. It is enough if you just flash the EE version of the image on it https://xpericheck.com/cda/1308-6282
Check around in the forums how the flashing can be done.

Indeed, I could flash an EE firmware, but not sure how to troubleshoot if things go wrong !!! hence I will wait a bit longer for that... (and waiting for the ROM to be widely available.)..
My XZP is from O2. Ive got it unlocked and both O2 and EE wifi calling working. My operator is EE but it was cheaper to buy it from O2.

CW phone is unlocked to all networks so it has different firmware than branded unit. Look around for EE or O2 firmware to get wifi calling enabled.
I've just flashed EE firmware. Wifi Call works even better.

If Vodafone list it as a compatible handset when running their firmware then I don't see why not.

I would like to try this. But my phone is already setup and without root I can't use my trusty Titanium Backup to backup and restore all my apps and settings. A couple of questions I hope you have time to answer:
1. What flash tool did you use to install this? I found the firmware with Xperifirm, but it doesn't look like flashtool-0.9.23.1 is compatible with our phone yet.
2. Did this wipe your phone?
3. Does this firmware come with any EE branding or bloatware?
Thank you for your time.

@robdevil
What are the differences between the EE and Customised UK firmware?
Do you have a EE splash screen when starting and any EE bloatware / limitation?
I am also on a carphone warehouse phone and wondering if I should flash the EE firmware to get the Wifi calling ( I have it enabled on my EE account already and was used to use it in the past on a different phone)...
Thanks.
Tony.
Customized UK loads "telefonica_UK" configuration for any SIM inserted, which means no VoWIFI(wifi calling) or VoLTE. You definately need operator based firmware flashed to get Wifi calling and/or Volte.
No difference at all. My EE app is preloaded I think. That's it.

I can confirm this. The only differences that I noticed was the myEE app. And outlook security instead of avast security. I can't find the wifi calling setting in the EE rom though. My provider is supposed to support it, but I don't see any settings in the rom to enable it.
Edit: I checked with my providers app. It shows that wi-fi calling is not supported on my device. I'll try the O2 firmware to see if that works.
Edit2: Actually, I see the O2 firmware is still on the July security update. Security is more important to me than wi-fi calling. So I guess I'll just keep running the EE firmware.

Are you on EE pay monthly plan? You wont get WiFi Call or VoLTE if you are on Pay As You Go. You should see wifi calling settings if you flashed it correctly on both O2 and EE firmwares.

Hi Rob,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm not on EE or O2. But my provider started to offer wifi calling on some phone models. Even if not purchased from them. For example the Samsung Galaxy S7 has it built in. But they don't support the Sony by default because it doesn't come with wifi calling built-in. So I thought it might show up with the EE or O2 firmware. But it didn't. I just need to go to my providers service point and ask them to force enable it for my phone to see if it works.
ishemes, so what provider you are using then and in which country ?

I'm with the provider Partner (used to be Orange) in Israel. Unfortunately they don't carry the Sony Xperia XZ premium phone. So no official support. The generic Israeli firmware does not have wifi calling in the firmware.
Quick Question
Sorry to jump on a slightly old thread...
I bought a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact for my other half. Brand new from EBay, unlocked, but doesnt have the Wi-fi calling feature, so from what I could find on a forum on EE it seems the Z5 compact has Wi-fi calling (the forum is giving instructions on how to turn it on specifically for teh Z5 and Z5 compact)
Only, reaeding this forum about phones having to be bought from the carrier to use the Wi-fi calling, I am now wondering am I going to be wasting my time buying a refurbed Z5 off Ebay, unless its locked to EE?
Thank you for any help!!
Gemma
P.S. I am the sort of girl capable of flashing, however i'd prefer not to have to do this, because I don't like interfering if I dont really need to

You might get more help by posting in the Z3 Compact or the Z5 Compact forums.
The way it works on the XZP/XZ1/XZ1c is via a set of settings overlays that are in the OEM partition.
Sony puts out different firmware for different carriers and the carrier specific items (like VoWiFI and VoLTE) are contained in the OEM partition contents of that carrier specific firmware.
If the Z5/Z5c work the same way, you should be able to get any E6653 (Z5) or E5823 (Z5c) model phone and download the EE customized firmware with XperiFirm and flash it to the phone. It should be the same as having bought the phone directly from EE with the same features and bloatware.
Again though, I don't have the Z3/5/c series and haven't dug into the firmware images, so you should check in with the people in the forums I've listed above.

Hi guys, new to here.
I've searched high and low and I can't seem to find an answer.
I'm from the UK and have a BTU galaxy s7. I've just rooted it and have downloaded csc feature expert. Tried to enable wifi calling but nothing appears under phone settings.
Has anyone had any luck doing this? If so, info would be much appreciated.
It worked for me in USA on t mobile!! i didn't do anything special just outta the box connected to wifi and boom
I'm in the UK too, vodaphone network with wifi callinging activated on my account and similarly I can't activate in on my phone, because there is no "wificalling" enable selection on my Samsung S7 Edge phone settings, did you have any luck finding out how you can do it

According to the Vodafone S7/Edge forum Wi-Fi calling needs an update before it can be enabled. No idea when this will be out.

OK Thanks. I contacted Samsung and they say wifi calling isn't part of their software, its a service provider software add on. I know EE have their wificalling working, where you download an App, whereas vodaphone are saying you don't need to download any app, so as you've said, vodaphone are advertising under false pretences, becasue their wificalling isn't up and running yet.....you'd think they'd get a system that works first, before advertising the facility......a case of waiting to see when Vodaphone get their act together

To be fair to Vodafone (which is very difficult) their web site doesn't mention Wi-Fi calling for the S7 - only the S6. Several people on their forum have claimed that customer service told them it was enabled which doesn't surprise me in the slightest. As the new flagship phone why wouldn't it be enabled out of the box? Especially given EE didn't appear to have any problem doing it.
Anyway, I'm sure it will be along any time now... What I'd like to know is when they're going to enable Wi-Fi texts as well as calls.
P.S. You don't need an app for EE either. I believe EE and Vodafone work in the same way as opposed to O2 and 3 which use a separate app.

AFAIK, there is no way to get WiFi calling on the Exynos variant. Sorry, it doesn't sound like it will ever be possible, so don't get your hopes up.
So I've purchased a XZ from a non EE company to find out that only EE direct phones support wifi calling ....
I've read about the galaxies being flashed with EE firmware by using a EE phone serial number to do so.
but what about the Xperias ? Any got any ideas here would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

Don't they have a separate app three UK have a WiFi calling app called three intouch. It's pre-installed on there own firmware and downloadable from the playstore for sim free devices.
Some networks do require you to be on there own bloated firmware like t mobile and volte.
Couldn't say about EE though I left them along time ago there service and customer services were abysmal.
As far as I'm aware they don't.
O2 also have an app to make the calls. EE seems to preload it on a partition on their firmware only.
Their customer service seem to be polite however not the smartest.
Just switched to them from o2 for the first time and only had slight issues.
I'm not getting LTE on my Sony Xperia XZ with AT&T. I'm in the U.S but got the UK version from Clove UK because of the lower price and freebies with the preorder. The US and UK Sony Xperia XZ are the same model number and the whitepaper has all of AT&T bands. Both are F8331 meaning there is only one Single SIM version. However the most I get is HPSA (3G?). Calls work fine and voice is very clear and I get full bars, however I can't get LTE anywhere. My friend that is on AT&T and has an iPhone 6S gets LTE with no problem.
I'm thinking that it has to do with the LTE bands being disabled or because it is a UK phone. I understand not getting Wifi-Calling or VoLTE because I didnt get the phone from AT&T but rather unlocked. But I should be able to get LTE, I might be wrong though. Could I possibly get the problem fixed by flashing the phone to a U.S firmware maybe? If anyone could help I would appreciate it.
Got the same phone from Clove on AT&T and LTE is no problem. The issue is most likely IMEI related. I have been using Xperia devices on AT&T for years and this has given me issues in the past. IMEI numbers are recycled and since Sony phones are not carrier issued their IMEI numbers are not loaded in AT&T's database. It most likely is linked to a 2G or 3G device from years past. Give AT&T an IMEI number from an AT&T LTE phone and you will access LTE. Also check APN to see if it's correct.

Yes don't flash the US Firmware, you won't get the fingerprint scanner, I bought the US version of the phone and Flashed the UK version, instead of LTE now shows 4G but is the same just different nomenclature
I can't speak for other countries, but the Singapore firmware reports as LTE on AT&T. But, it doesn't work until you go to Settings -> More -> Internet Settings and let it download.
Then, if you go to Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks, you should see the different AT&T APN's.

A million thanks. Everything you said was spot on. The IMEI as you said was not loaded into the AT&T database since the IMEI for my Xperia XZ is 14 digits vs 15 for an AT&T phone. I asked a friend for his IMEI and went to an AT&T store and did what you told and now I have LTE! Of course it appears as 4G on my Xperia but it's still LTE. Again thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help also. I figured that flashing the US firmware would disable the fingerprint scanner. My phone now shows 4G after I tried the solution to the first reply. Good to know it's the same as LTE. I don't regret buying the phone from the UK bc everything is working out fine.

I tried what you suggested but it still shows 4G. The options are still the same. Apparently it is the same as LTE just shows up as 4G. Thanks though for the idea. It was worth a try.
In the UK LTE bandwidth is marketed as 4g.
You've purchased a UK Sony with UK firmware hence you will see a 4g symbol rather then LTE.

Oh I thought the f916u1 that says AT&T was the firmware. Super glad then so there is a chance that sometime later something will be uploaded? Yeah not to knowledgeable with this stuff so just saw AT&T and thought that was it. Well I will have to check that site for a little while fingers crossed.
Guessing from past devices, once a "branded" complete AT&T firmware becomes available for the Z Fold 2 then you should be able to have the option for Wi-Fi calling of course your SIM has to also be provisioned for this feature. I think if you can wait it out, you will be able to have Wi-Fi calling at some point.
I bought a Tmobile one even though i use Google Fi (which basically uses Tmobile only on non Fi phones). I flashed the unlocked firmware SM-F916U1 and i have Wifi Calling. I choose XAA.

It's just an AT&T thing. AT&T don't make firmwares available publicly. AT&T exclusive features like Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice aka Voice over LTE are usually not available to unlocked devices with a few exceptions like the Pixel and the recent S20 series. Fortunately for us here at XDA, I'm speaking for past experiences that there were AT&T firmwares available from either SamMobile or people here with access to the AT&T servers. Hardware wise, US Samsung phones should all be the same with exception of maybe Verizon due to their radio requirement differences. So all carriers features should work on all devices providing 1) correct software/firmware on the phone 2) the carrier's database sees the device as a capability device/system provisioned. I suggest that anyone looking for AT&T Samsung Firmwares, search the sub for maybe s9/s10/s20...see who in the past provided firmwares for this carrier, ask them. Hope this helps.

Hi there, I recently left EE and kept my Huawei P20 pro phone which they unlocked for me, I joined O2 on a sim only contract, but stupidly never thought to check if the wifi calling would still work for this phone on O2. I've contacted O2 to try activate WiFi calling on my account and I can see its been added to my account, but can't see the option on my phone settings. I have been reading many sites and posts that it won't work unless my phone has the correct O2 firmware on it. Can someone confirm if this is true and if so, does anyone have the correct firmware for this and how to install it too, as I am really missing wifi calling and texts while I am away at work offshore with no phone signal!! It's a P20 pro CLT-L09. Thanks for any help you can give me, kind regards, Andy
I don't think WiFi Calling will work on P20 Pro on O2. When I've been using it, it had no option to turn the WiFi Calling on. In Huawei, it always depends on the generic software version (basically, there is no branding). But, if O2 haven't certified this option, it won't be available. Is P20 Pro on the O2 list of capable devices?
Yeah it's on the list on the website, it seems to be a common question to O2 but no one get a good reply with a solution. I'll attach a screen shot of the ifo on their website. I think my issue was that my phone was locked to EE and WiFi calling worked with the EE simcard in, but its now unlocked with an O2 sim card in it and no wifi calling available, so really hoping someone has the O2 firmware available that I can install onto the phone fingers crossed to save having to buy a new phone from O2.

If it won't work, I would try Factory Reset the phone and then install all the updates. There should be an update from O2 available (network settings or something like that).

Yeah it's on the list on the website, it seems to be a common question to O2 but no one get a good reply with a solution. I'll attach a screen shot of the ifo on their website.
