Thoughts on AppGallery / Petal Search - Find Apps? - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey everyone hope you are all well and safe
So yesterday I was giving this some thought and then realised Huawei have jumped leaps and bounds with Petal Search (a few more tweaks and it will just as powerful) I am yet to come across an app that I am in need of that isn't AG / PS available, overall for me its great and can't wait for future products being hardware / software development from Huawei;
What is your honest opinion on AG / Petal Search FA -
Would you use a Huawei solely with AG?
What key Apps are you missing / needing?
Just trying to gauge an honest opinion on the new direction from Huawei Mobile Services?
Look forward to your replies, thanks in advance

I personally do not think you could fully use the device just using AG. I don't think that there is enough variety of apps on there. But petal search is a life saver. I think just getting the banking apps on an official market (yes don't @ me, I know they can phone clone over). But having worked in phone shops in the past, I know customers 80% of the tome do not know what they are doing. So having them on an official market where they can download them will be a massive help to the consumer bias.

been using the phone for 3 weeks now, honestly thought i would need GMs and i couldnt tell you what i need it for. Use the phone every day without GMS and i have every app including banking on it and its amazing. Only thing i use is youtube vance as an alternative for youtube.

app gallery is strong yes but not 100% currently, and petal search is the saviour of it, I had to download it seperatly however if they could pre install it into the EMUI that would make for a cleaner experience and I think I would have thought straight outta the box ooh wow 2 stores! but either way I agree that everything I use is available. I think they've ticked off the core of the apps, Socials, Maps, Email. I think that within time they will get bigger and a wider range in stock apps on both. How secure is petal search?

yt vanced is probably the biggest help

Definitely a savour for me especially as it looks identical, background usability, no ads and is Chromecast friendly - Which I am yet to use.

Definitely agree with you there bud I would have potential gone another route if it wasn't due down to Petal Search Find Apps, Huawei have started a great journey by themselves now and surely can only get bigger & better.
From my understanding Huawei use a 4 layer security on AG I have heard this is the same for Petal Search and I have also noticed recently when installing apps of PS a separate tabs appears which verify security.
No harms yet to date

So far I am completely sold on HMS even considering moving banking society as Barclays is not available, no love for Barclays if no love for Huawei.

How's your notifications been ?

That's good to know, ill have a dig around to see what the 4 layers are! I mean its a new app so time will develop it aswell, its a strong 8/10 right now! Ive seen lots of comments on the Huawei facebook page about it! so clearly all of their R&D is going into it!

Totally, have to appreciate Huawei's R&D they do invest heavily its one of the main reasons why I am a Huawei consumer!

Have just seen that TomTom maps has been added to AppGallery! Definitely a real competitor to the other big players!
PetalSearch is great, I wish some more of the premium versions of apps which you can get for free would appear in the search results! Good move from Huawei, lets just hope they don't rely on this and keep AppGallery updated!

TomTom FINALLY will check it out now thanks for sharing man, I suppose App Gallery has been around for so long and developers across the world just upload apps on apps, Petal Search has been great so far and the name suits :cyclops:

Why Google removed "Just In" section?

Why Google removed it?
It was the only way for developers who don't have money to advertise or don't work for any big company to get a little bit of space to present their apps.
I believe a lot of quality apps will stay unrecognized because users will not be able to find them. I barely find my own app and I know exactly what I'm searching for.
I released my new app yesterday and even when I search for its name its not at the top of the search results. I don't really see how people would be able to discover it if you can't even find it when looking for it. They should bring the Just In section back ASAP

+ trying to make up the difference between AppStore <-> PlayStore
Since theres been move coverage that the AppStore is still generating more money (especially for developers which makes it more attractive to prioriate the AppStore).
Alch
I think this is also to prevent spam. When the "just in" section was still there, some of my apps were updated ten times a week, just because the developer wanted to leave it's app there. I was spending more time updating them than using them.

[DISCUSSION]Samsung App Store

First off, I looked for a thread like this but only found threads mentioning specific games from the Sammy app store (which I was surprised about).
So, this thread is for any discussion related by the Samsung App Store.
So things like - new apps that become available for free or a much cheaper price (that way, we all benefit from it ), what games/apps you'd like to see on there (especially for free. After all, we're all about sharing), whether you'd like to see other manufacturers take the same initiative etc.
I'll kick-start this discussion by saying that the best app I've got from there recently was NFS Hot Pursuit for free.
Obviously it's a great game with great graphics to boot, but the oy downside was how easy the game was. But I guess I can't moan too much, considering it was free
Advice to app developers: if you develop something, put it on the Samsung App Store too.
Due to the huge number of apps on the Play Store, people tend to find apps more easily on the Samsung App Store.. so you tend to get more downloads there.
That's a great idea actually.
I'm in the early stages of learning how to make apps and I'll definitely bare that in mind when it's my time to shine

I personally don't like the app, however I do agree with the ease of finding things on it.

Yes it does. It contains a wide range of apps and games covering different genres.
Just a smaller version of the Google Play Store.

What would you like to see on the Sammy app store?
One game I think would be great would be Max Payne Mobile. It was a brilliant addition to Android as a whole and I think it would be great to see it on here.
App wise, I'm not too sure at the moment but I think there should be a greater choice in general though.

the sammy app store is quite empty now.. hoping that devs would help fill up the spaces in sammy app store and take it as an extra income because more people can discover ur apps and app searching in the samsung app store is much better.
I want Speaktoit Assistant and Bad Piggies

I agree...
Last I had used the Samsung App Store was back in April...
There were just a bunch of games and fart apps (pointless apps with no purpose)...
And even the games were trial versions...
Extremely small selection + poor quality = bad experience

It is a shame there's not as much as there should be. It could have real potential if it was all worked on.

There used to be some great deals with games and apps like money or office packages but of late it is very stale.

What's good in the appstore?

So, I'm creating this thread for a couple reasons.
1. I have an abundance of google play credit, but have everything I really need already.
2. Hopefully other newbies or seasoned vets can come here to find hidden gems.
I have some excess google play credit to spend. Question is, what do I want? Maybe a bunch of games? I'm really considering just spending it to help support some committed devs. Question is, who or what?
Maybe there's an app that I simply overlooked that I'll be kicking myself over if I spend it foolishly.
Recommendations please

most of it is s*** games.
i only use apps in the utility section. most seem like there for little kids.
Use AppLock to lock apps so nosy people cant open them.
I don't buy a lot of apps but like the previous post I mainly use utility apps.
Network signal apps are always handy when you're trying to figure out which tower you're hitting and the signal you coming through on. This information is especially useful if you are have a technical issue and need to get tech support involved. I find they do push back a little when you start overloading them with a bunch of information the average user doesn't have but being armed with information helps expedite resolving issues.
I recently started using a TV app. It's a preloaded app that has a built-in channel guide. The app also lets me use the phone as a TV remote.
With the number of available apps you just need to think about your daily life and see if there are any things you do a lot that there might be an app for that.
It looks like a little strange to me. Many many people don't buy paid apps because of the money and the payment policy. But, you are here looking for "How to spend my Google play credit to something worthy". Sorry I can't help you. There are few suggestions but I guess you've already check these out, Dynamic watch, Better battery stat, smart keyboard, pro compass, some launcher maybe....

How are you working around GMS App access?

Hey everyone I hope you are all well...
Thought I ask the majority of you as you may be using a P40 series device without Google Mobile Services, at first I did hit a roadblock with the transition from GMS to HMS but seems like its a workaround from this app to that app but just curious to know how everyone is adapting to the new GMS being HMS, how's your experience been thus far and what would you change?
It would be great to get a view to see if any of us are having similar journeys, I myself can now say I have adapted to 100% HMS and am looking forward to what is next from Huawei.
Looking forward to your responses
I really like it. I would just like it if there was an easier way of updating apps rather than. doing them manually.

Hey,
All in all i have found it easy enough. Im just waiting on contactless payment from Huawei. I never used it before but due to Covid I'm finding a growing need for this, but i always have my bank card so its not super important.

Myself included Google Pay is more of a novelty to me and only used it a few times, I intrigued with Huawei Pay and how it differs if it does, I am currently using a P40 Pro the experience has been no different to P30 Pro tbh I'd like to see app updates by themselves and not having to manually do so from multiple stores otherwise I am extremely impressed.
I bank with Barclays and NatWest which sucks as these apps don't work on HMS yet - web browser and/or keeping my P30 Pro on WiFi in the work draw as the alternative.
Pleasant discovers I wouldn't have come across if I wasn't forced away from Google's bits are YouTube Vanced (even got this running on my P30 Pro now) and DuckDuckGo...
Everything else I used I've managed to get working...
Still happy with my device, no intention on returning, but Huawei do need to pull their finger out and add some more bits to AppGallery... and do something about the suggested apps and adverts on the main page.
I think the banking apps could be bit of a sticking point from an outside view. But fantastic phone if you know what you are doing.

Banking apps question.

Hi guys.
I keep seeing recurring themes on social media of people saying that they cannot get any banking apps over, banking apps not working.
Do people know what the issue is with this as my apps phone cloned over? I also just update them through Aurora store; Which just seems like a clone of play store.
Anyone else had these issue, or is it just the Huawei haters that would never even get a Huawei device poking there nose in?

Totally agree with you on this one I see so many negative comments but none are true especially as I am comfortable using a P40 Pro with access to Halifax, Barclays and Tesco Bank and 2 of those were Phone Cloned over with no issues a month in, would be a solid suggestion if Huawei went public with this as it could be make or break for a potential customer.
Me too, used clone and then aurora, no problems. Use Lloyds with no probs too. Well happy.
Most likely trolls spreading false information. I was using a banking app that wasn't on the Huawei App Gallery without any issues at all. It was recently added to the App Gallery, so that's even better I guess.

I agree with you, its people spreading misinformation. They are likely people that wouldn't even buy Huawei as they are probably wrapped up in an overprices phone that will have all the features of Huawei devices 3 years later.

The issue i feel is that people see Huawei as "bad guys" due to certain people not being a fan of the company. Purely on the fact that they do things better than most.

currently at the minute no - however I got in touch with them via facebook and they got back in touch to my surprise and they said they were going to pass it to the right department. If it doesn't work I will have to switch banks - for now im using the web browser as a solution.

the western media tbf is very 'shhhhh' misleading. I think if they had given a bigger picture & then be more informative I think the message would be clearer. Had I not known by actually researching into Huawei , I would have thought that all Huawei products would have been withdrawn off the UK market - However that's not the case , its just infrastructure not handsets/tablets.
