Hi this morning suddenly I can't unlock my phone using fingerprint and there is no fingerprint option in settings. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I do a factory reset?
EDIT
I did a factory restart and it is official the fingerprint is gone...
Mine just disappeared. It has happened before and returned on its own, but not this time. I am c567 with 9.1.0.252 flashed. Maybe flashing a different version will get it working again
Maybe a hardware issue, loose fingerprint connector or something.
Then EMUI disables Fingerprint option if sensor is not found
Try googling for Huawei secret dial codes to find a hardware test for Fingerprint (?)
Mine must have been the connector because I put the phone face down on a table and put most of my weight on the back. After a restart the fingerprint came back to life. Obviously you risk breaking it but it worked for me.

You can open the cover and fix the fingerprints cables/connectors:

It is normal for display to go blank due to proximity censor while making calls. In my case however, occasionally the display stays blank even after the call gets over. This also happens every now and then when I lock the phone, only to never unlock. At times, the displays backlit switches while unlocking but not all the time. The phone's processor stays awake in both the cases (calling/locking) and the phone rings & vibrates perfectly on making calls. The only option that I have in such cases is to restart the phone. Is anyone facing similar problems with their phones? I've done a factory reset off late but still the problem persists.
Are you using a screen protector? May be you haven't aligned it properly and hence proximity sensor detects it and turns off the display??
I've had similar situations happen to mine, but I figured out that after a Skype call on my phone, the proximity sensor will remain active and will sleep the screen if something's covering it. I'm not sure if you have skype running, but if you do, that might be why.

I don't think obstruction of the proximity sensor is an issue since this problems occurs even when I lock and then try to unlock the phone. Also the backlit turns on at times when I try to unlock the phone.

Well, what you're facing right now is a classic example of what people face when they keep on the protective covering used on a new phone when the phone is shipped.
If you think it's not the issue then search for any apps which you might have installed? Run the phone is safe mode and see if it acts up? Flash stock images or do a reset to rule out the possibility of a software issue.

After few days of working flawlessly, today again the display blanked out while it was locked in normal mode. I tried unlocking the phone but only the backlit would light up. So I restarted the phone, activated the safe mode as suggested by you and then few minutes later, again the display blanked out. What should be the next step now? Please elaborate on flashing stock image. I've earlier done a factory reset but I immediately installed all the apps.

Well, if you're facing the issue in safe mode as well, any apps might not be causing it. To flash factory images, you will need to unlock the bootloader. Follow the guide which is linked in my signature.
Since you don't know about how to flash stock images, I assume you haven't rooted and undervolted? Display black outs while unlocking the device can be caused due to undervolting as well.
It could be a hardware problem on the phone I had before the n5 with my lg g2

Possible, but he should exhaust all software options before seeking out a replacement.

My screen goes black when I am in a phone call and it does not turn on unless I hold the power button or something like that. I have already went to the proximity settings to test that it is working.
Any ideas?
Firmware version? Seems to be a bug in last firmwares. Also had this issue some time. Now it seems to be gone.

.In the process of backing up my phone atm to try a factory reset. I'm on latest T-mobile version though.
How did you fix yours?
Bump. Anyone? Is there a fix or is my sensor faulty? Because if it is I can still send it back in for a replacement. Sometimes it will work fine, and sometimes it won't.
I've got similar problem. When sensor is activated, it's keeping activated even if nothing is in front of sensor, so I have to wait for other side to end a call.. any suggestions?
EDIT: problem solved-> I just cleaned the glass on proximity sensor, maybe some dust was there

I also have a problem with phone's proximity sensor. With me, it shows some signs of work right after i boot up the phone. In service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) -> Proximity switch starts with On value and then goes Off, On, Off, On.. a cycle of at least one minute. The interesting thing is when i cover the sensor it stays On, which means it detects its working. I suppose the sensor is faulty, as I tried several suggested methods to resolve this issue: pressing firmly on top of the sensor, factory resets, reinstalling the software with Sony's PC software kit, some applications from Google market, etc. None of them helped.
As I bought my phone 2nd hand, I see the upper speaker is pressed on its left side a little bit, as if the phone was dropped exactly on this spot at the speaker (which I find is almost impossible, as the front panel is perfect without scratches or anything) or somehow it was pushed with some sharp object. I explained this as it might have a link with the proximity sensor issue, or it may not be connected to it, not sure.
Ever since i got my T Mobile Galaxy S6 Delivered a couple of days ago, the finger print scanner does not work.
It keep displaying the message :
"Make sure that the home key is clean and dry, then try again"
Here is a video of the problem: https://vid.me/aHjp
I bought the phone on Swappa, and the seller claims it never got wet.
I've tried searching for similar issues but have no found anything like it... any thoughts?
I just did a hard reset and still the same issue.
Anyone with any insight please?
Make sure there isn't a protective strip on the button. Peel it off. Had one like that, felt the fool...
It's probably on the way to not working. Mine said that a few times and now always gives me the fingerprint sensor error message.
Hard reset hasn't fixed it.
It's a common issue. Happened to me as well, now it's not working

So what is Samsung doing about it? Can we all submit complaints to them in a common place so they do something.
Should I send it in as a warranty repair?

I would. I switched to an iphone 6s+ and i'm sending my S6 to Samsung for work. The fingerprint sensor stopped working and it has a serious hardware issue with the wifi. I only hope they don't blame their **** product's problems on the crack in the back glass.
So my fingerprint scanner started working ...out of no where.
I ran the test under #*0#*
And it says failed... but it works. For now
Weird
it happened again
tip : when I put my finger on home screen , the message vanishes as it read my fingerprint
it's a software issue after updating my fw
now what?
Samsung galaxy note 5 fingerprint scanner not working after factory reset
I also got the same issue. Everything was working fine and i factory reset the phone to clear storage space. After the reset when i tried to set my fingerprint the scanner stopped working and started giving the same dry and clean message. I have realized that the phone doesn't even tries to read the fingerprint and anyways gives the clean and dry message even if i don't touch my finger on the sensor. I think that Samsung is doing this on purpose. I think that we all should get together in this forum and we should try to contact Samsung about this issue. The have to do something about. Thanks

Well .. finally the issue just got resolved by just replacing the home button at a local repair shop which cost me arround 7$
Noticed someone mention it about the pixel 2xl, but anyone else experiencing issues with the regular Pixel 2 fingerprint scanner? Randomly having to sign in using my password because the fingerprint scanner isn't working. Last phone was the Nexus 5x and never had issues like this unless my fingers were wet. Tried registering my fingers, but to no avail... Google told me that unless I hard reset my phone they can't exchange it, but any time I hard reset my phone, regardless how backed up it is, something gets lost.
I will say I have not had issues with the scanner. The accuracy is better than the original Pixel.
Sorry to report, no scanner problems here.

My guess is the phone is rebooting without you knowing about it. Anytime you reboot your phone your password, pin or pattern is required before the fingerprint scanner will unlock it. It sounds like this is what's happening.
That's what I was going to suggest. It's easy to confirm: the PIN screen should tell you that you need to re-enter the PIN after a reboot.
I've found the scanner itself to be flawless.
No issues hear thing is so friggin fast I use it more then acculy unlocking my phone with the power button. Only time I have to pin is on reboot and after 4 hour of inactivity in a smart lock location.
I do, yes, but what I think it happening is that the sensor is being triggered while in my pocket and it's hitting a failed attempts threshold which requires the pin. It happens more often if I'm sweaty.
My biggest gripe with the fingerprint scanner is the fact that it seems physically smaller than the OG pixel (I don't still have it to compare). But the software still has the same maximum number of fingers. Therefore it is NOT as good as the OG pixel at doing a full finger profile, and it has shown in my use.
Fast as **** though
I've noticed the finger print scanner tends to struggle with my finger after doing the dishes or washing hands. This is on a Pixel 2
Got my U12+ Christmas gift this year -- fingerprint sensor doesn't work and the setting no longer exists either! I did a full factory reset and still got nothing. Is this just a me issue with a potential hardware failure, or has anyone else experienced this problem?
Not that anyone cares because it seems I'm the only one having this issue, I'm sending the phone into HTC for potential repair. Not holding my breath, but maybe I'll be surprised and they'll cover it under warranty. Time will tell....
HTC U12 plus
same here, today is 28/01/2020 and my fingerprint sensor disabled, i've tried eeeeverything, but nothing helps.
so do not recommend for me, washing sensor (any), reset, restart, wipe data, safe mode.

Wasn't going to reply to my own thread, but will now that someone else has this issue....
I sent the phone in for repair and they claim it was due to water damage and therefore not covered under warranty. Not much I can argue since if the sticker is colored it won't matter that it's never been submerged in water before.
It's been "in repair" status since Jan 15th and they said it can take up to 30 days before it's fixed and returned.
Thankfully I kept my old phone so I have something to use while this process plays out.
You're not the only one with that problem.
I'm experiencing same problem some a few days.
Fingerprint app simply won't open.
Will probably try factory reset before sending it to repair.
Since yesterday I have the same problem.
It looks like the fingerprint app crashes by opening.
I too have had the same problem since yesterday. Nobody solved?
Resolved. The connector had come off. It was enough to open the back and reconnect it.

I dropped my phone about 30cm height on a carpet, and the sensor stopped working. I certainly hope your solution works for me too...was it the little cable that connects the sensor to the phone motherboard? Hate opening these phones because I always manage to damage the case when I pry it open

RESOLVED: There, I fixed it! So for anyone with this issue, its a pretty ****ty design from HTC...the port that connects the finger print sensor to the mainboard pops off rather easy. If you drop your phone on its back the port pops out. I bought one of those bathroom hanger suction thingies from a cheap plastic store and used it to pull the back panel away so I could fit a guitar pick. Works like a charm. Remember to take out the sim tray, and be very careful not to crack the back cover. Start from the bottom (just above the charging port) lifting the panel with the suction tool only slightly and go around in a circle. Don't push your prying tool in further than 20mm or you might damage the finger sensor cable. Patience is key. Thanks to C0rs41r above for the info. All the best.
Me too ?i have this problem, i don't know why the printerfinger scanner doesn't work , when i go to settings > security, i cannot see the option . What should i do?
Thanks This worked for me. It was very easy to fix. There is a single snap connector. I didn't even need to remove the entire back piece. I was able to slide a pry tool along the top, back left and bottom and open it like a book. The ribbon likes to sit on the back. Don't be fooled, its not directly attached. Just move it into place and press down. You will feel it pop into place. Turn on the phone and you should be able to open the Fingerprint app again.
Meus amigos, estou com o mesmo problema no meu HTC U12 +, a impressão digital não funciona, a configuração não está disponível, como conseguiram resolver?
Alternative solution identified after 2 years!
In short, I registered my fingerprint through Google Pay.
Background: The fingerprint setting is missing from general menu but I realise I could wake my phone by touching the fingerprint sensor, so I believe it's software issue rather than hardware issue.
I had the issue for around 2 years now and none of the suggested fix worked (reset, remove security lock, resitting fingerprint sensor).
Before this, whenever I try to get back the fingerprint setting by removing security lock, I ignored the prompt from Google Pay mentioning that it needs to have security lock in place to work. But today I went into the reminder, and it brought me to page where I can setup the security lock and fingerprint, YES! FINGERPRINT!
So I managed to add 5 fingerprints (same amount as stock setting) and unlock my phone successfully. However the fingerprint setting is still missing from the general menu, and I couldn't found a way to get into the screen lock setting within Google Pay either. Whenever I need to reset my fingerprint data, I will need to remove security lock from general menu, and go into Google Pay so that it will prompt me about the security requirement, then I can re-add my fingerprint through it.
