HEIF setting in camera still produces .jpg pictures files, why ? - Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro (Redmi K30 Pro) Questions & Ans

Hi,
I would like to enable the HEIF photo file output, I found and checked the item in stock camera setting, but nothing changes.
Is this a bug ? Is the HEIF output only compatible with a specific camera mode ?
I am using camera 3.0.200116 and system Global 11.0.6.0 QJKEUXM.
Thanks

On mine it works with all 3 lenses. Maybe try and clear camera app data?

OK i have rechecked, still on the same software versions :
- Clearing camera app data is not sufficient, reboot may be required.
- the HEIF setting only appears in the settings for the default "photo" mode, not in 64M or portrait modes.
When it is enabled, pictures in 64M or portrait mode stays in jpg file format.
- Google photo refuses to sync HEIF files ! I did not expect that ! (as reported in https://c.mi.com/thread-3031761-1-0.html)
Note that the settings option is named HEIF but the file extension used is HEIC.
All in all, this is very confusing and disappointing. Maybe updates to both Google Photo, camera app or system will lift these limitations.
Xiaomi advertises the Poco F2 Pro as HEIF capable, as a space saving feature. Why is it not enabled in portrait mode ?
Do you know if xiaomi.eu roms supports HEIF ?

Copying heic files to computer using usb and resaving them with Paint.net allows to upload the file to Google Photo using the browser !
Additionnaly, it seems that in "pro" mode of the original camera app, if we enable the raw format which produces huge files, we get .dng files that seem to be stored to the cloud by google photos in "high quality" mode, that means without taking storage quota.
The HEIC failure on mobile seems completely strange if it is not a storage problem.

[Q] Camera raw files

Hello, this is my first post.
I recently purchased a second hand 1020. It is running Windows mobile 8.1 and Denim software.
The camera takes great 5Mp pictures. I use Lumia Camera app for the photos. It has the option of setting which high resolution format to save - .jpg or .dng.
The feature of re-framing by using the high res photo is great. I have read about this feature in numerous references. However, I have never read that this feature only works using the high res .jpg files. In settings of Lumia Camera, it states that "Reframing in digital negative (DNG) mode uses the low-resolution photo". I have tested this and the statement is correct.
The high resolution .dng photos are not uploaded automatically to Onedrive, they cannot be used for reframing, they cannot be viewed. The only thing that can be done with these is to manually copy them to a PC and manipulate them in Photoshop or similar software. The main advantage - reframing is not possible.
What is the point of saving to .dng?
Am I missing something here?
By the way the high resolution .jpg is not uploaded automatically either. Is there a special setting for this? I have "Best quality" set in Onedrive setting already.
Thanks
I use BTSYNC to backup automatically high resolution photos of my phone without using the usb port. It works Great and it is really fast.
Rubén
I have used bluetooth manually - it's much slower than USB of wifi. Maybe it's my computers.
I don't know how to set up automatic bluetooth upload of high res photos.
This doesn't explain what use is a .dng file on the phone.
Thanks

Mod to change default sharpness, over post-processing of S7 camera?

Hi, the S7/S7Edge camera is good but the images are entirely over sharpened and generally lifeless. Just overdone.
Any way to tone down the sharpness, and use the old post processing of the S6?
Or is this not possible given it's a different sensor, etc?
I would love such a fix too. Any other camera app probably? RAW is one way to fix it but you can only edit RAW files stored on internal storage along with their jpegs in the same folder in Snapspeed. Otherwise Lightroom(which isn't available in my playstore) or photoshop is required.
RAW are also too big for general purpose photography at 23Mb per file
Right now only solution is to use PRO mod and RAW =( ....
Maybe camera app or port from S6 ?
and what about the video? Sometimes I have to shoot on the S7 because I just have it with me. The video really sucks in postprocessing because the oversharpening creates a whole lot of artifacts. Pro mode isn´t really an option and there is is no setting to turn down sharpness in any way.
If there is a mod for the bitrate, why isnt´t it possible to patch the sharpen value?
I found that using HDR on reduces sharpen in AUTO mode .... Also HDR on Auto gives diferent results...
I think that MOD is possible ... only to find right person

DNG to JPG converter which actually works properly...

I have tried several apps but they either don't recognise the phone's camera app's DNG format or they are simply useless for other reasons e.g. always writing the output to some directory (folder) in the device filespace which one then has to move them out of.
I need something which can convert them from the SD card
e.g. 0000-0000/DCIM/Camera
to the same place.
The S7 is rooted, with SDfix etc.
I would appreciate any tips. Basically I would like an app which works with the Samsung DNG format and which has configurable in and out folders.
Android v6, not v7, rooted.
If you have RAW enabled in camera settings, the phone also stores a JPEG of the exact same photo, so no need to convert them really
Not sure about Android apps, but on PC just load them into your favourite RAW photo editor and export them as JPEGs (Lightroom for example)
Not quite... taking the DNG and processing it with say Lightroom produces a vastly better quality photo.
See e.g. here for examples

The Jpegs from the phone are over-contrasty and over-sharpened. One should never apply unsharp mask until the image is resized to the final resolution (if at all).
Yes I know that, which is why I suggestion Lightroom
Converting on the phone is not going to give anywhere near the same results as PC Lightroom
Use a PC

The real issue IMHO is that all the camera apps are mostly just control panels for the camera API. They don't AIUI get the image to play with. That is why e.g. all of them have the same contrast steps, same exposure range, etc. The JPG is done by the OS and the app gets what it gets. One camera app developer explained this to me.

New Nokia Camera update for N7+

So, I just got an update for the Nokia Camera app through Google Play. It was a whooping 250MB!! So far I noticed it includes:
- All shooting modes (photo, pro photo, video, bokeh, slow and fast camera...) moved to a slide carousel in the bottom
- Front/back camera switch moved to bottom left (thank god!)
- Added a shortcut to google lens
- Option to take "movement" photos (like a short gif)
- Added a button with Snapchat-like masks
- Auto HDR is now inside the burger menu on the top left
So... I'm opening this thread so you can discuss!
Still don't get update. It is possible to backup camera app and post it here?
edit:
Ok, I found it. I must manualy search for Nokia Camera and then update app. Don't have it with others app that need update on my device.
Apparently the filters and masks sections updated itself over the internet and where I had just 3 masks, there's now also an animoji-like Chinese lion and several light sources filters
Cant find the app when I search in Playstore. Any links?

I wonder how the image quality differs from the Google Pixel Camera port.
Probably a really dump question, but can't find the control for manual HDR anymore...

They removed the manual hdr. There's a auto hdr in the settings.

May I know if there is a way to manually set HDR permanently on?
After the update, the Google assistant commands work. Saying "take a selfie" the camera opens automatically with a 3-second countdown
Still forces EIS on 1080p (and lower) recording...
I wish they put an option to disable it.
They should also add 60fps recording for video in 1080 as the processor supports it
I kinda like the new options.
Is ridiculus to not have manual controls on the hdr, is like absurd, like a bad joke....
Front cam at low light is so washed out. It's like saturation set to -100. Wow, just wow.

Se haven't lib for 1080/60...we cani only Hope that nokia release an unpdated camera lib
My stock camera app is different than Nokia Camera app. And for the Nokia Camera app Google Play says "This app is incompatible with your device"
Same here TA-1055 in UK. I have to admit that my Oreo is a restore from Pie Beta.
Well, just got a notification - update for stock camera app (Nokia Camera) and it is whole 247 MB Probably HMD had messed up with this app few weeks ago, then pulled it out of the store and now put it on hopefully a corrected version?
Every time I click a picture it gets in to a never ending processing photos loop and never saves the pictures properly. Even after rebooting the phone it gets back to the same loop.

Question enable mod to take RAW images from Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G MI camera

hi besties
I want to take DNG format images from my 108MP sensor so I thought there was a way to enable RAW photos. so I decided to install Gcam but has so many bugs I would rather delete this app.
I want to know is it possible to mod the MI camera to take raw photos?
thanks
Same question here...
Try this:
install Open Camera (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera) and Camera 2 API (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.airbeat.device.inspector).
Start Open Camera, go to Settings, scroll down, tap Camera API and change it to Camera 2 API.
While still in Settings, go to Photo Settings and enable RAW.
You can even enable a shortcut at the viewfinder (screen while taking a photo) so you can enable RAW + JPG, RAW only and JPG only if you want. Just go to Settings > On Screen GUI, and enable "Show RAW Icon".
I hope that helps!
