New Nokia Camera update for N7+ - Nokia 7 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

So, I just got an update for the Nokia Camera app through Google Play. It was a whooping 250MB!! So far I noticed it includes:
- All shooting modes (photo, pro photo, video, bokeh, slow and fast camera...) moved to a slide carousel in the bottom
- Front/back camera switch moved to bottom left (thank god!)
- Added a shortcut to google lens
- Option to take "movement" photos (like a short gif)
- Added a button with Snapchat-like masks
- Auto HDR is now inside the burger menu on the top left
So... I'm opening this thread so you can discuss!

Still don't get update. It is possible to backup camera app and post it here?
edit:
Ok, I found it. I must manualy search for Nokia Camera and then update app. Don't have it with others app that need update on my device.

Apparently the filters and masks sections updated itself over the internet and where I had just 3 masks, there's now also an animoji-like Chinese lion and several light sources filters

Cant find the app when I search in Playstore. Any links?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hmdglobal.camera2

I wonder how the image quality differs from the Google Pixel Camera port.

Probably a really dump question, but can't find the control for manual HDR anymore...

May I know if there is a way to manually set HDR permanently on?

After the update, the Google assistant commands work. Saying "take a selfie" the camera opens automatically with a 3-second countdown

Still forces EIS on 1080p (and lower) recording...
I wish they put an option to disable it.

They should also add 60fps recording for video in 1080 as the processor supports it

I kinda like the new options.

Is ridiculus to not have manual controls on the hdr, is like absurd, like a bad joke....

Front cam at low light is so washed out. It's like saturation set to -100. Wow, just wow.

Se haven't lib for 1080/60...we cani only Hope that nokia release an unpdated camera lib

My stock camera app is different than Nokia Camera app. And for the Nokia Camera app Google Play says "This app is incompatible with your device"

Same here TA-1055 in UK. I have to admit that my Oreo is a restore from Pie Beta.

Well, just got a notification - update for stock camera app (Nokia Camera) and it is whole 247 MB Probably HMD had messed up with this app few weeks ago, then pulled it out of the store and now put it on hopefully a corrected version?

Every time I click a picture it gets in to a never ending processing photos loop and never saves the pictures properly. Even after rebooting the phone it gets back to the same loop.

Looks good, at the moment there are a few similar apps available, I have tried all of them, now the difference will be in the amount of features. I like that the refresh rate looks good (unlike some of the other apps available).
Last time I checked your app was not in Samsung Gear Apps store, but will give it a try once available. At the moment there are two apps that are my favorites, one that can record video and high resolution pictures, but the refresh is not that smooth, and the other is 'buttery smooth' but can only record pictures up to 1080p in resolution. Hopefully your app might become one of my favorites as well
Thank you for comment. My app takes pictures in highest resolution possible for chosen camera (rear or front). Video recordig feature will be added in next update, along with resolution choice feature. I will notify here, when app will pass certification and be available in Samsung Gear Apps store.
App is on sale
Phone Camera Remote app is now available in the Samsung Apps store in Gear Manager in Entertainment and Utilities categories.
Update
Phone Camera Remote app update was released with new cool features including video recording and advanced gallery with share and delete features.
Upcoming update
next update features:
-camera zoom
-picture/video resolution choice
-user preferences saving (resolution, shutter sound, flash mode, focus mode)
-new shutter sound mode: vibration
-flash torch mode removed
-torch mode activates while video recording if flash mode "on" is active
-faster gallery images loading
-image zoom in gallery
-experimental feature: take picture/video on wrist counterclockwise 90 degree fast rotate

Hello,
Im planning to add more camera settings including image effects and stabilization in next updates.
Update
Phone Camera Remote app v1.2 update was released.
Changelog:
-customizable camera settings
-scene modes selection
-color effects selection
-gallery images group by date
Excellent app, but ...
.... the only thing that doesn't work for me is an actual view in zoom mode. The image on the gear 2 neo stays the same when camera zoomed in. The camera is zoomed and if I take a picture I get a zoomed image, but the display on the neo stays the same, making it impossible to set a frame for the picture when using zoom.
Otherwise, this is one very cool app.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini running stock O2 android 4.2.2 (with gear support)
Watch: Gear 2 Neo
Ill try to fix zoom issue. Never saw it while testing on s4.

That would be fantastic. Having used the app in several situations lately, it is already in the top two best uses for the Gear 2 Nano, along with the Music Player++ app.
If you can fix the zoom preview issue, it will be hands down the best app I have on the watch.
Thanks for all the hard work!

May I have some questions. What is the videobit of 1080P? Can I increase it or your app just read out it from media_profiles.xml? How is the jpg compression rate on your app? Will you add support for 4K recording for note3/note4/S5/Alpha?
Sorry for too many questions but I'm thinking to get a Gear2 just for this app before I buy it I want to know all things first.

Hello,
app uses default videobit for all video resolutions. Jpg compression rate is 90. As for 4K, it will be available as experimental feature in next update (experimental, because 4K video is not fully supported by the standard Android API yet).

Thanks for fast reply, you are real quick. Because the default videobit is just around 20M on all Samsung phones and definitely not enough for 1080P. Can I increase it by modify the media_profiles.xml myself? or can you add support various bitrate selection for it?
Good news for 4K experimental feature, hope Android 5.0 will real support 4k.

If android takes default value from media_profiles.xml, then modifying media_profiles.xml might help. As for manual bitrate setting, I will try if it is effective to change bitrate manually.

[Q] 3rd party camera apps vs. stock

What's your experience on 3rd party camera apps such as Snap Camera, A better camera, Camera Zoom FX etc. in comparison to stock google cam app? Do they perform any better in point-and-shoot scenarios? Some of these apps recently got support for camera2 API on Nexus 5. Does that actually change anything except RAW support and 4k video recording?
I use "A Better Camera", and shoot in "Super" mode. I took several pictures with the google camera in various levels of light, on normal and HDR, and took the same with A Better Camera using normal, HDR, and Super. Super looks hands down the best. When zooming the pictures in all of the way, you can easily see that A Better Camera's pictures taken as Super contain the most detail and most accurate colors. A Better Camera's HDR also beats the stock camera HDR in detail. For low light A Better Camera destroys the Google Camera.
Edit: Also, A Better Camera focuses better than the stock camera, and doesn't need to refocus every several seconds.
I do not use any post processing.

Just have it a shot and your right!! Thanks for the suggestion!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
I installed it and it certainly takes a better picture, but I cannot find any "super" setting.
Where is the super setting?
You need premium
Also, do I need premium for it to zoom? I can't get it to zoom like the regular camera does.
You shouldn't need premium for the Super setting. Tap the circle at bottom right to get shooting mode settings, and Super should be the tile in the middle. For zoom, swipe down from the top to get the settings menu, tap More settings (at bottom), tap Viewfinder settings, tap More, and make sure Show zoom control is checked. Then, when you go back to the main (picture-taking) screen, swipe from left to right to bring the zoom slider out.
Thank you for the clear explanations.
I found the zoom control hidden on left. I had been trying to zoom using 2 finger stretch like in other apps but didn't work here.
But super is not there. I purchased the app but as you see in the screenshot there is no super.....
Odd... yours has Night where mine has Super (2nd screenshot). Super was there for me in the free version too.
Well, at least I'm not going blind.
I have the latest version. Just purchased it.
I thought I edited my post to say I'd figured it out, but something didn't save... anyway, if you are running Lollipop, pull down your settings menu, tap More settings, tap General Settings, tap More, then make sure Use Camera2 Interface is checked. Then you will have the Super option available. (If you're still running KitKat, that won't work since KK doesn't use the Camera2 interface.)
Thank you.
I'm still on kitkat. So no super mode. ?

[Q&A] Camera Mods and Ports on OxygenOS

For example, "ColorOS Camera for CM11s", "Another ColorOS Camera Port", and "CameraNext Modded."
The developers for these camera ports and mods are explicit about what they do and don't support.
None of them currently support OxygenOS. This bears repeating--"None of them currently support OxygenOS."
It is counter-productive and messy for users of OxygenOS to keep posting in the developer's threads about how their camera ports fall short of the expectations of those who are trying to plug the cameras into rom's for which they were not made.
Please come here and help each other, or be quiet, and leave the dev's alone.
If and when there is support for a camera on OxygenOS, the news will travel like lightning.
I have so far run some superficial tests with "ColorOS Camera for CM11s", and here are the results..., so you can know what to expect should you install it on OxygenOS.
You may add your observations to this thread as you wish.
So here's a list of what did and didn't work in OxygenOS.
What worked:
Normal worked just fine--all I did was leave settings on auto and pressed the shutter.
Burst worked, however each burst photo is only about 1/3 size of Normal photo in megabytes--this might be by design.
GIF worked.
Picture Plus worked.
Beautify worked.
HDR worked.
Colorful Filter worked.
Double Exposure worked.
What didn't work:
HDPicture did NOT work--it took only Normal sized shots at 13mp.
Super Macro did NOT work--it snapped a photo that turned out to be some sort of thumbnail.
Colorful Night snapped a photo, but terribly out of focus--tried several times..
Slow Shutter did NOT work.
Professional worked, but NOT using the timed shutter. I didn't try all the settings out.
RAW showed me the jpg, but I could not find the dng in OxygenOS native file manager app (Files), nor see it in Android Quickpic or in Windows.
Been testing out CameraNext Modded.
HDR worked.
Normal worked.
Macro worked however became difficult to focus when very close to subject, as I've not yet learned the proper place on the screen to tap to offset the parallax.
Variable shutter did not work.
That's as far as I got
Also, in the Normal settings, the only resolution options were 13mp and 10mp--don't remember if that's intentional.
COS12S CameraNext On OxygenOS:
Normal works, focus-Macro works.
Panorama makes a very tiny file, about 500kb.
Slo-mo 1080 @60fps worked. Grainy, but worked.
It might have been the medium light which was fine for 1080, or maybe that's just what happens.
No Slow Shutter available in Scene modes.
ColorOS Camera for CM11s/COS12 on OxygenOS
Video: 4K and 4K DCI recorded at 1920 x 1090. Slo-mo at 1280 x 738, and HDR at 1920 x 1090.
Thank you.

Ya, me too. Give it time.
P.S.--you are welcome to post your experiences with the different cameras here and help fill in the blanks.
10mp (16:9) doesn't work
1) I normally prefer taking pictures in wide resolution. I guess oxygenOs has removed the support for wide resolution at higher mp.
The setting 10mp (16:9) in the camera setting for Colour OS app doesn't take pictures in 10mp, but in a very small resolution. Only the 2mp (16:9) and 0.9 mp (16:9) settings work.
2) Beautify doesn't work on my phone.
Seriously hope someone fixes this.
Thanks
Clear data.

Go System->Apps->the ColorOS camera app (might be called "Camera") and clear data.
Likewise for the plugins.
Try Beautify again.
ChronoSnap
Just now tested ChronoSnap on OxygenOS. Indeed, as the developer states, it seems to be a very simple and intuitive timelapse camera.
On OxygenOS though, it snaps only thumbnails.
@Android-Andi
This is information about SultanXDA's ROM regarding the camera.
SultanXDA ROM thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/onep...-12-1-t3120259
From the other thread I've learned to NOT flash another camera HAL, that ColorOS Camera has mirrored preview with selfies, and that ColorOS Camera will not show the 1080 selfie option.
Mirrored preview ColorOS Camera:
"sultanxda--Not a real bug. This is an issue with the ColorOS camera, not my HAL. The ColorOS cam was designed to be used by the CM/ColorOS camera libraries, and it's not a part of the actual ROM (it's an outside closed-source app), so I will make absolutely no effort to try and fix it."
1080 front camera ColorOS Camera:
"CameraNext and all other camera apps have the option, but ColorOS doesn't. Have you tried scrolling up in the video size list?"
Also, someone reported a bug switching from camera to pano or sphere:
"macimeister--Photosphere and Panorama mode in google camera app does not work. It is expected to improve this?
sultanxda--Just tested it, and this bug only happens when switching directly from camcorder mode to photosphere. Switching from camera mode to photosphere is fine.
There seem to be other bugs with Google Camera as well. I'll look into fixing them."
Since sultanxda states that many of the ColorOS camera features are closed-source, I gotta figure that for the most part, ColorOS and Another ColorOS will not be fully implemented.
Otherwise, seems to be fine camera-wise.

I use the stock app for videos, OpenCamera for stills, Freedcam for landscapes using RAW mode , and Google Camera - if I want panorama or photo-sphere.
'A Better Camera' - will save to SD card. It is pretty nice - but I uninstalled it after I realized that the free version had a limitation of number of HDRs pictures it allows.

Using stock, OpenCamera, A BetterCamera. I like OpenCamera except it doesn't yet support writing to external SD.
My main complaint with the stock camera is that it seems to only support two resolution settings (and I am guessing they are the really the same resolution, just one is cropped to make 16:9 aspect ratio). Am I missing something? Is there a way to take lower-resolution photos (e.g. for web posting or faster email upload) using the stock camera app?
I use Camera FV-5.

Does it allow saving to the external sd on lollipop? As far as I know only the stock camera allows that.
Camera FV-5 I found does not work for some reason on the Idol. I start the camera and get a black screen. I do get the settings but nothing else but a black screen. I going to contact app developer soon about it.
The best camera so far (for any device) it's procapture because: it can silent all the sounds (except those in whats app), it can put the grip on and it can capture just by touch. Besides theese, there are many-many other settings as wb, iso, hdr, light mode etc

Your phone has to support Google's Camera2 API in order for the app to even function. Right now only a few devices even support the official Google Camera2 API. The ones I know of are: Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4. Since the camera hardware is the same as my Nexus 6, I'd expect this app to just work, but Alcatel's software side probably isn't even written with Camera2 API in mind.

A Guide for Better Photography [How to use manual mode][camera api2 pros]

It is boring to always use the auto mode in camera so let's try the manual mode and have greater quality pictures, which is better than auto mode.
What is manual mode ?
Manual mode is one of the main settings on your camera, and it lets you manually control shutter speed, white balance, manual focus, and ISO in most. These three settings work together to control the how bright or dark your photo is (known as exposure), as well as change the overall look of the image.
What is ISO ?
In photography ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The same principles apply as in film photography – the lower the number the less sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain. Higher ISO settings are generally used in darker situations to get faster shutter speeds.
What is Shutter Speed ?
In photography, shutter speed or exposure time is the length of time when the film or digital sensor inside the camera is exposed to light, also when a camera's shutter is open when taking a photograph. The amount of light that reaches the film or image sensor is proportional to the exposure time.
What is White balancing ?
White balancing is a process in which a camera will attempt to detect the type of white light largely visible in different environments. This is typically utilized to account for different light sources (fluorescent, incandescent, etc.), as well as different weather types and times of day (overcast, sunny, sunset, etc.). White balance generally focuses on collecting the proper temperature of white light in a scene, which ranges from cold (blue-tinted) to warm (orange or gold-tinted).
This is one setting that is often best left on automatic settings, unless the viewfinder suggests that the automatic white balance is obviously wrong. Of note, RAW images will have to be manually white balanced in post-processing, as RAW shooting will not modify the white balance in-camera.
What is Manual Focus ?
Manual focus controls are a more recent and much-appreciated addition to the control suite of manual smartphone photographers. Most camera apps features a simple and intuitive circular slider which can be used to accurately set focus manually in lieu of the jumpier and imperfect auto-focus, something which is often exaggerated when trying to take photos of close subjects. If you want to take a closer pic of something very near try macro focus.
What is Manual exposure ?
manual exposure is a small supplement to ISO and shutter speed settings, and it is one of the rarer manual settings one will find in smartphone camera applications. If a combination of shutter speed and ISO produce an unsatisfying image, manual exposure is often offered as a way of tweaking the brightness of an image in-camera. It can quite easily be replaced by simply modifying brightness after taking the photo, but it can sometimes be more efficient to get the image right the first time.
What do we have in our Lenovo P2 :

Maybe due to changing roms in mobiles the camera driver can get into buggy, not confirmed yet.
If you want Camera with Raw capture try "snap camera HDR" with force HAL1 enabled in-app setting.
If you looking for completely manual configuration try camera api2 ON in-app setting.

With camera api2 raw fails as it is not supported in P2 right now. But without camera api2 or with Hal1 enabled you can capture raw image in DNG format.
