Want to use old Mi4c for PS4/PC Remote Play, any benefits in rooting/custom ROMs? - Xiaomi Mi 4C

I got an old Mi4c on my hands that I would like to use as a dedicated Remote Play device for my gaming PC and PS4 together with a SF30 Pro Gamepad. I already tested both with Parsec and Chiaki and the Mi4c handles both things just fine. Currently the phone runs on the latest official MIUI 10.0.1 Android 7 Nougat Chinese/English ROM and I used the Chinese Google Play Installer to get the PlayStore running.
Would I get any benefits in rooting and/or flashing a custom ROM for my usecase? If yes, is this guide for unlocking the bootloader still valid? https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/guide-unlocking-mi4c-bl-verification-t3336779
Also what would be the best recommended ROM to install, is there any modern-ish ROM or Pixel Experience? What I'm looking for the most is the best battery-life and WiFi/Bluetooth compatibility with my SF30 Pro gamepad.
Thanks for help in advance!

What freaking apps do you use that only support a 3 year old version of Android?

but windows 10 doesn't support all drivers we have to reboot pc with disable driver signature enforcement something like that. i have faced lot of issues when flashing os and with fastboot drivers which works awesome on w7. most annoying thing is microsoft spying on w10 and u cant stop it.

Erm.. I never had issues with drivers on my windows 10. I think you need to install the universal android drivers that are widely available on the internet. Regarding spying then since you are using an android which is a Google ptoduct, you cannot escape spying. Google is synonymous to spying

I even have this dream . Kitkat use dalvik vm and i feel it is smooth and easy to modify apps . Art has brought a lot of changes . If u want kitkat , u need to build cm11 . But this wont work in 99% cases ad u use a device tree from mm
Unfortunately no, because every smartphone (let's take the Galaxy s8 as an example), can't have a ROM That have an older version with what it came with, even if it came with 7.1, it can't have a custom ROM of 7.0

Arcore redmi note 4?

Hey! I know, that my my questions is maybe stupid in this time, because I read that just is not GCAM supported anymore on Redmi Note 4. I have TWRP flash, Magisk installer with rooted unlocked phone. I installed via TWRP flash also Camera2api, and I tried to install also via Magisk manager. I tried a lot of version from internet, many many GCAM and other ports , and I'm just now totally lose. I have lasted official Android 7 Nougat with MIUI 10. I read lot of webpages, tried everything . Just now I have headache from that Therefore I would like to ask, if is any chance, how to get ARCORE on my phone with this official firmware? I don't want to flash my phone. However, if it will not be possible, I will think about stable flash. Also I would like to ask, where I will download this original firmware, if I will want to go back. I have snapdragon 625 CPU.
Thanks for any informations.
miui 10 official rom not support gcam as of now but many people are petition to enable or support it. you can get ARCORE but installing apk but I'll test it in Pixel Experience which is custom rom and aex rom also, ARCore in AR Stickers using GCam. my bad English

Which ROM for a very old MIIA tablet?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a lightweight barebone custom ROM for my old MIIA TAB8 MIIATOUCH 8" tablet.
The specs are as follows:
CPU: BOXCHIP A10 (CPU+GPU+VPU+APU) 1.2-1.5GHz
Internal ROM: 8GB
RAM: 1GB
Display: 8" IPS 1024X768 G+G
USB: Mini USB 2.0 OG
HDMI port
Android 4.0 ICS
I only will use it for watching YouTube videos and reading ebooks.
Which is the best lightweight custom ROM for this?
Thanks to everybody answering me
Wasn't aware that watching videos on a 1GB RAM Android 4.0 tablet can be fun.

You have got a point here, but can you still suggest me a lightweight custom ROM for this type of device?
AFAIK only for Android 4.4 exist Custom ROMs.
Take note that to flash a Custom ROM a suitable Custom Recovery is required: don't think such one exists for your tablet - but you may search the WEB at your own. Good luck.

Well, unfortunately your tablet is quite unknown. Beside your post here I wasn't able to find even another mention on a couple of forums. Given that Google will remove Google play support, if not already has, I suggest the following :
1. Use universal adb debloater and disable as much as you can, starting with Google play services. You won't need them, thus pointless.
2. Use f-droid to get apps, lots of apps there that are going to be lightweight and compatible with your device.
3. Don't bother with root, most likely will result in problems (your tablet lacks support, no guides or custom recovery)
4. Consider using a custom launcher (more lightweight and better optimized than the stock one. Plus you can disable the stock launcher this way)
5. Terminology : F-droid, FOSS.
Good luck!

vanilla Adroid on MediaPad M6 (SCM-W09)

Hey Guys,
I'm curios if any of you tried to install vanilla Android on MediaPad M6 (SCM-W09). I would like to do it but I need help with it. My knowledge is very basic, could you please tell me if there is any working manual which could me guide through this process? What I want to achieve is to have a normal Android with software from hardware producer and if possible working external Huawei keyboard. I bought set: tablet and keyboard.
Best regards
mgolczyk.
Vanilla Android is the Android developed by Google, not containing all the OEM related blobs: it's the base all OEMs use to create a fork matching their devices.
Hi @jwoegerbauer, thank you for replay, what does it mean in details? It means that if I try install vanilla version on this device I can have issue with drivers? I guess that vanilla android has an set of drivers for most popular hardware right? What do you recommend me, abandon the idea and try to install google services with one of the unofficial ways? Do you know if there is a way to install vanilla android on this device?

Moto E22 - LineageOS20 vs Lineage

I just bought a Motorola Moto E22 and want to install a custom ROM to get rid of google stuff.
It seems Lineage does not support this phone yet, but I found this LineageOS22 guide which I have no idea it is reliable or if it has anything to do with the official Lineage project.
Any clarification or suggestions for alternative privacy respecting ROMs that work on Moto E22 would be much appreciated.
First of all, don't do these before completing 1 year of buying. You will lose warranty for unlocking bootloader.
Second thing is, if any official rom is not supported, you can definitely use unofficial version from xda. Developers try their best to fix issues with unofficial roms. If you don’t know if it’s reliable or not, read the comments to learn about bugs, issues and positive sides.
Don't be afraid of trying roms built for your model. Because by chance if you don’t find the rom good, you can revert back to stock rom using rescue & smart assistant tool (official software from lenovo/moto)
And before getting started, take note of your model number. Also you have to install device info hw app & click on system there. There you have to find what is your device called in developments. The name will be written beside "device" title (not sure). For example, my moto e5 is called nora in development.
N.B. Dont use any unofficial rom from outside of xda!

Thanks for the quick response.
Privacy is a greater concern than warranty, so much so that I would have got the PinePhone if I could, but the best I can do is try to mitigate the damage made by stock android spyware and Motorola bloatware.
I'm more than willing to test unofficial roms, the problem is that there doesn't seem to be any available for my model here on xda, not even an official thread yet.
The LineageOS20 for Moto E22 link I found does seems a bit suspicious as there is nothing about it here on the forum.
