I'm running CM 7.0.3, and I'm having massive proximity sensor issues, t the point where the phone is becoming unusable. If I'm in a call and I don't manually shut the screen off, the following happens (constantly):
I'll feel some haptic feedback on my ear, and my voice will mute. When I look at the screen, the lock screen is up and when I unlock it, it's at the dialer screen. I'm not hitting the mute or hold button with my ear, it seems like once it gets away from the call screen, my voice is muted.
Needless to say, this is getting massively annoying. Later tonight I'm going to try to see if using a Sense based rom fixes this, but I'd much rather stick with CM. Has anyone else experienced this?
I believe there is another post on this.. you can also Google search for inspire proximity sensor adjustment - someone created an app to adjust the sensor
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
The thread in question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062561
EDIT: I haven't used the proximity sensor adjustment application that's linked in the thread as mine is working normally. If it doesn't work there's a possibility the sensor's faulty and should be replaced (I recently went through this whole thing with my old iphone 4).
Yeah, to be honest, I tried that app and it didn't seem to make much difference. I'll try calling HTC
Flashed to a sense based ROM, and the sensor seems to be working fine. Very odd, to be honest. I will say that after using AOSP for so long, I have no idea how you guys deal with Sense at all.
Well, now I have to decide: I can live with Sense, or I can ship my phone back to HTC and be without a device for 2 weeks. Going to try out the proximity sensor app again, but it didn't seem like any setting made a difference, but it could be that I just don't know what I'm doing with it.
Check under Settings>Call Settings and put a check mark in the "Always use proximity" box. It says it's to help with prox. sensor screen locking when the phone is horizontal, but the CM7-based ROM that I was using showed the same issues and I fixed my particular issue by checking that box.
Tested with a few calls and the screen is definitely shutting off when the phone is standing or lying down.
I read up on the proximity app, and I think I have it calibrated properly at 5/6. It certainly helps, but it's definitely not perfect. Night, thanks for the advice, but yeah, that option has been checked from the start. At least the issue is tolerable now, before it would do this 10 times per call.
Funny - mine was calibrated at 10/11 by default and works pretty well. Try going up to those values. I used a local time/temperature number here, and it worked well when my finger got 1/8" or so from the phone. While I admittedly haven't measured the depth of my ear or anything, it does seem to be working well at those settings.
I think the upper threshold is where you may want to adjust. From my playing with that app, changing the lower threshold too high will make it ignore things too close to the phone and so will an upper threshold that is too low. Try lower 5, upper 11 and see what happens. Anything between lower and upper apparently triggers the sensor. (<<< speculation without documentation)
Hello. I have an Nvidia Shield tablet k1 on lollipop 5.1.1. Everything is great about this tablet except the touch screen. It is really sensitive. Also, when I am scrolling, it "jumps" and goes faster than I actually scrolled. It scrolls faster than it should. I found this thread on xda. It helped a little with the being too sensitive issue, but scrolling is still really weird. This is my second device since the first one's micro sd card was defective. They both are like this. Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to deal with it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/adjust-touchscreen-sensitivity-t2963326
I was opening a thread with this exact same issue. I'm not on stock though (using the latest CM12 nightly), so I don't seem to have the 'Sensor Calibration' option.
Also the touchscreen seems to register a touch even when the finger is not touching the screen.
On the other hand, if I scroll a very small distance (like 0.5 centimetres) the list I'm scrolling doesn't move at all. This doesn't happen on other devices such as my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 and is very annoying in some cases (some games, or moving the cursor for keyboard input).
I'll try to record a video of this behaviour.
What can we do to fix this?
Update: found a video (not mine) showing the issue I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08uPtusOJHQ
anyone else with this issue?
I also have this issue on/off sporadically on stock rom.
I'll be scrolling and itll jump back the opposite direction
Its like it looses track of the touch then catches it again.
It's irritating as my S5, Nexus 2012 have no problems scrolling smoothly.
I don't recall the original shield i tested in store to have this issue either.
Currently having amazon ship me a replacement to see if its just limited to the one I received. (QA issues)
Calibrating screen might fix the issues: go to About in settings and tap on model number until the calibration screen comes up. then hit calibrate. don't touch the screen then when it asks to reboot, reboot.

Did it fix the issue I posted the video about? I'm on Cyanogenmod now so I don't have the option to calibrate the screen, but I would consider going back to stock if it fixed this issue...
Calibration doesnt help at all , same issue at brand new k1. Nvidia says thats normal functionality lol
Yeah, very normal for a gaming tablet which would require precision...
Not trying to take up for this thing but I haven't had the first touch screen issue with it . so maybe not all is affected?? I've tried to replicate the issue but just can't everywhere I touch and slide is smooth
You mean it doesn't "jump" like the OP said? I don't seem to have that issue either.
I'm more concerned about the touchscreen's precision, as shown in the video.
I've had the phone since the day it came out. It took me a while to notice but the screen is definitely unresponsive at times. It is actually difficult to notice because, if you are like me and spend hours on your phone every day, if every so often if a touch doesn't register, your brain automatically make you repeat the gesture and you don't even think about it. And, it's OK if it happens like once a day. But with this phone, it's hundred times a day. I thought I was crazy so I recorded a video with my OP5.
See here: https://imgur.com/a/lZS4eVP
OK so this is kind of a very bad occurrence. Usually, it's not always like that. Sometimes it works perfectly fine. I also wonder if this could be the reason why the double tap to wake is also inconsistent, when the screen is off.
Also, yes, I do have a screen protector, but I've had them on all my phones and never had an issue.
Looks like this is happening only with you, is this problem occurring only in specific apps? or globally..
The touch here works snappy and very responsive. Maybe a faulty device? report to service center, I guess.
I also noted unresponsive screen once in a while while trying to click some hyperlinks or items with small clickable icons. But it's not anywhere close to what your video showed. Best and fair thing to do would be: Fresh flash the stock rom, don't install any additional apps then see if the problem persists. If it does, time to call customer service for a replacement unit. Good luck!
I've had similiar issues with my Essential PH-1, turns out it was a defect in the digitizer and I was RMA'd on it.
Nope working great here.
Do I get a new phone if I rma it? Or refurbished?
No I get this sometimes as well. Not nearly as bad as shown in your video, but sometimes it just doesn't register the touch properly and you have to touch it harder for it to register. Or when scrolling it only registers the scrolling partially
i have same problem in the same position
It happens to me sometimes when I tap the screen (for example tapping on a contact in whatsapp) that the screen doensn't respond good. When I tap a few times more and with a little more pressure it's going well. (I didn't test without the factory applyed screen protector)
Do people who have this problem use gestures? For me, the problem also occurs (no reaction when I tap the hyperlink or a small icon) but I noticed that it only occurs when the gestures are on. Maybe there is a problem.
I have reading the forum and tried contacting 1+7 also but they just say switch off nfc and so on but till today (1 month since I bought it ) I still have the problem . while making a call it goes on hold or connects another call or something or the other happens and the other person gets irritated as if I am doing on purpose. I am still unable to solve this will changing rom be the solution or can someone please help I am fed up with this instrument
My 2 cents... are you sure that it's a ghost touch issue? To me it seems more a proximity sensor trouble... it is possible that, while in call, screen doesn't go off (or wake up while you're talking) and your ear triggers commands at random.
Try to check that your screen remains black while in call, else you could try to reset sensors with one of the apps available on Play Store.
BTW: I had a similar problem one or two times, but maybe because I wasn't so near the phone while I was talking.
will try out can you advice reset sensors apps

Search for "Proximity sensor reset" or similar names. Usually apps like that needs root privileges, btw.
I've had problems with the screen waking up and then causing problems while in call too. This while it's still against my face. Apparently touching my face makes it go into other apps and causes problems. I've had it go into airplane mode, mute and do other weird stuff.
I've had the screen go crazy with multiple chains of taps too, especially while holding it in landscape mode.
Turning the refresh rate down to 60 Hz helped some, but the problem's still there.
I think there's something jacked in their implementation. I came from an S8 that had a curved screen and I never had the phantom tap problems I have with this thing.

Disabling double tap to wake resolved my screen wakeup during calls issue...
UPG to 9.5.10 Plz - Issue has disappeared again.

I'll try that, but I don't think I have that enabled. I disabled NFC for the other tap issues and that helped some.
I really wish there was a screen calibration tool. Samsung curved screens have none of these issues.
Do you have a dirty screen protector?
This is a known bug with the proximity sensor, although, actually, I believe the root cause is something else.
Screen does go black, which indicates the proximity sensor is working and recognizes your face is near... But input is still allowed (meaning it does not lock it).
As a result, during a call your face/ear will press whatever is underneath and trigger random actions.
I believe (I hope?) that OnePlus is aware of this issue and they issue a fix.
I think it was briefly fixed for 9.5.9 and then reverted on 9.5.10 since it introduced other issues.
Quality control has been a bit subpar on the OnePlus 7 Pro builds when compared to my previous OnePlus phones...
Hey all! I recently updated from Android 10 to Android 11 OOS 11.0.2.2 and I have a strange issue I didn't have before. On grey/blue backgrounds, the screen dims and changes color a little bit after not touching it for 4-5 seconds. I already submitted a bug report but I just wanted to see if others are having this issue. I do have a T Mobile device that's been converted to global, but again this issue wasn't present before. I can't report as to whether the issue happened on OOS updates previous because I just updated and got 11.0.2.2. I've also linked a short video here showing the issue. If you guys have any input at all, it's appreciated!
I may be having a similar issue. I am trying to view your video to see if it is the same problem. I have noticed that my color turns warm, as if the blue light filter was activated. It normally happens when I am trying to type in a field. In most situations, it happens when there is a lot of white being displayed.
I did not pay attention to the browser that I was using. It may be a Chrome issue, but that is only if we are experiencing the same thing.
Ok, so we are talking about two different things. But, your dim is very subtle, at lease as far as the camera is concerned. Does mine do the same thing? No idea. I probably never noticed.
However, are you using Adaptive Brightness or manual brightness? In my experience, OOS 11 came with a LOT of bugs. I've been getting screen orientation problems as of late, and it would lock my screen sideways depending on what I am doing. I do not use auto rotate, and I am certain that I didn't press the rotation button in the bottom right corner. Even if it showed up, it shouldn't have, as I was using my phone in portrait mode every time that bug showed up.
TL;DR: OOS 11 - YMMV.

So I have the same thing with the screen going super warm on white backgrounds too, primarily on web browsers. With the other issue it only happens with the brightness between 30-70% or so and the screen gets darker and the gamut seems to get a tad cooler but I've chalked these up to separate issues. No phone is without faults but it seems like Oneplus releases software without testing it at all.
Edit: I noticed the yellowing on Chrome, and nowhere else on the phone. Samsung internet does have the same issue
Yes, I have a slew of issues with Android 11. My problem is the fact that I like it a lot more than A10 w/OOS, sooo....I have no option but to tolerate them for the moment.
