Hello,
I have a USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter that I have been using with my OnePlus 7 Pro. It works, but the volume is extremely low. When hooked up to my car stereo at max volume (on the stereo and on the phone), it's about 1/4th the volume of the radio or my iPod or Pixel XL.
I followed the instructions in the following thread:
https://www.xda-developers.com/increase-oneplus-6-headphone-jack-volume/
I have already rooted my device and I used FX File Manager to remount /system as read/write and edit the file. I was able to modify the volume parameters from 80 to 95. However, when I rebooted my phone to test the changes, I noticed that the files had been reset to their original state and the volume remained unchanged.
I remember using a custom kernel for my Nexus 5 that had options to modify the volume on the 3.5mm jack. Does anyone know of any kernels that provide similar functionality for the OnePlus 7 Pro?
Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Hi all,
playing around with my new Nexus 5 I recognized a problem to control the volume of my external bluetooth loudspeaker.
First, the speaker connected normally as it used to with my GNex (JB 4.3). But with the Nexus 5 the volume seems to stay at maximum only. Pushing the volume buttons +/- of the phone shows up the volume control and I can see the volume going up and down. However, the speaker stays at max. volume independant of the volume setting.
Can somebody else please check this?
I updated my Nexus 7 to KitKat also. And... the same issue here. Perhaps my speaker has a problem?
Thanks
By the way... the speaker is a Philips SBT50
It's not the speaker... with the GNex everything works fine :-/

Click to collapse
I have the same issue using a Jabra Play. I'm able to pull the volumne sliders to the min and it will stay there, however one click up, and it goes to max.
BeerGang .4 and Franco r14 but I think it did it on stock also...
google has some work that needs to be done with BT and KitKat.
i thankfully dont have this issue with my little BT speaker, but i have serious High Volume issues with my LG Tone+ BT headset....it is definingly loud at the lowes volume.
I use Bluetooth in my car and with the LG Tones (700) and I've tested it with the 730 tone+ and no issues. Bluetooth headset and I don't have this problem.
With my jbl speaker i habe the same Problem with my n5. Not possible to adjust volume via Bluetooth. When connected to LG sound bar volume control works well

This is not a Nexus 5 issue. It is Kit Kat issue on all devices that use the default Google Bluedroid Bluetooth stack, meaning Nexus devices and Google Play versions (other devices running a modified stack may not be affected).
Supposedly, it is an extension to Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 that enables Bluetooth audio devices to directly control Android's system volume. It seems some genius thought two independent volume levels (headphone volume and handset bluetooth level) was too confusing for folks. Clearly they did not think about (or test) that some Bluetooth audio devices with their own volume controls might default to a very high or low level, and control of only the handset's bluetooth level would not provide sufficient range of adjustment.
So once again we have Goofle googing up bluetooth in Android. Please share your disappointment in the following threads so that we might see a fix ASAP. Guessing they are facing law suits for hearing damage if it is not addressed quickly.

This is a somewhat unusual question considering many were looking forward to this change being introduced in KitKat. Here's my situation:
I have a pair of Bluetooth headphones (specifically MEElectronics Matrix) that has a volume control with something like 16 different steps. On my Nexus 7 (2012, 4.4.2) and LG L9 (4.1.2) I usually have the media volume of my device on full, and have the headphones volume set between 2 and 4. This is a nice quiet volume.
When I'm connected to my Moto G (4.4.2), the volume control on the headphones is linked to the media volume of my device (they aren't seperate levels anymore). The problem with this is that now the quietest I can listen to my music (with the volume set to the first stepping on my phone) is slightly too loud for a quiet environment.
If anyone knows of an app, mod, or other solution that will allow me to seperate the volume setting between my device and my Bluetooth headphones, I would really appreciate it.
When I connect my headphones and listen to music, volume is pretty loud.
When I get a call, the volume during the call through the headphone is very low. Is that a standard thing in MI4?
I replaced one mi4 with another, and that also has the same issue.
If its a standard issue, is there any fix for that?

That might help. If you don't have CWM or TWRP recovery, you can unpack zip and copy /system/etc/*.xml files to phone with Root Browser or similar app. Remember to set same permissions as original files.
Recently bought a doogee x5 pro as a backup phone and as with all devices i tend to look for audio hacks. Since i couldn't find a reliable rooting method which would lead me to install viper4android and dolby effects i have been playing around with the mediatek engineering mode app, downloaded from the play store. This combined with poweramp tweaks has resulted in me using this as my main device, coupled with a 200gb micro sd card (yes it supports it fine formatted to fat32) it is a fairly cheap device with loud impressive audio through the headphone jack.
As this is xda, will give the usual disclaimer, i am not responsible for any damage to your device or hearing!
upon opening the mediatek engineering mode app from the play store, go to hardware testing, then click on 'audio'.
Now select headset mode and change the max volume from 128 (think this is the default setting) to 160.
Now do the same for the 'loudspeaker mode', again under audio settings change this to 160.
find a value that best suits you, but maxed out there is no distortion through headphones, and the single speaker is more than loud enough now too.
i do not feel the need to post my poweramp settings as everyone has different speakers/headphones etc so my personal eq settings are unlikely to be to everyones tastes, although i would suggest maxing the pre-amp under the eq setting in poweramp as well as ticking 'limit' to 'on' therefore negating any potential distortion from the poweramp preamp increase.
hope this helps someone, all that is needed now is root and viper4android and this will be perfect. if anyone can help with that do hit me up! thanks again
again apologize if this has been posted elsewhere, just thought id help anyone else out who's potentially in the same boat.
Thanks, it's great!
However, you should try flashing TWRP with SP Flash Tools, and then SuperSU through TWRP.
And there are kernel sources!
Check the other Doogee X5 Pro threads for information on both.
A better way is to install the official Google USB drivers, and flash TWRP via fastboot in the bootloader.
Nice one Thank you for that. the volume seemed to have dropped in the later firmwares.
Turned up volume in engineering, when phone rings, volume turns down on headset and doesn't turn back up after call. Had to reboot phone to max out the sound again.
The lowest volume setting when using headphones is just slightly too loud for me. I am using Vsonic VSD5S headphones which have an impedance of 45 Ohm. Is there anyway to lower the minimum volume? If possible, I would like to avoid rooting or installing any apps.
Unfortunately, there's not a way without root or installing apps, maybe the next OTA will solve the issue.
You have to root the device to do anything about it.
Have you tried going into the settings of the supplied music player to see if you could alter the audio settings.
Most music apps have preamp of replay gain settings to help this some what, but so far I found all of them suffer from terrible snr at low volume (aside from stock music player). I get around this with an external amp like the fiio e5 which had it's own volume control.
With power amp alpha you can also change the volume steps to 100, that may allow you to go lower than the default volume step can
