Notification/Tones not showing up - OPPO Find X2 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi all.
Just got the X2 pro and this is my first Oppo phone.
Really enjoying it, have finished setting it up, but... One thing is annoying.
I have copied across some notification tones and I am using Textra as my message app. When I try and select my notification tone, it only shows the oppo tones and doesn't allow me to select from 'another folder' on the phone...
Is there something I can do to add a folder or copy the tones to another folder? I have tried to copy them into the internal storage's 'Notifications' folder but they still don't show up.
Short of rooting the phone to put the files into the hidden/inaccessible media folder, is there anything I'm doing wrong which I have overlooked?
Any help appreciated and thank you in advance.

Assuming EU version of phone? For me, to get different ringtones/message tones... need to go to that particular apps info (long press on icon and choose info, or from the phone settings. Not from the actual app settings) then under Manage notifications click on the specific notification (probably something like default conversation notifications as its SMS). You can turn notifications on or off with the slider, but clicking on it will give you more options. Once in that, look for Ringtone and under Custom should see 'Select from files'.
Might be teaching you to suck eggs, but thats where it is on my phone (CPH2025)

I had the same issue. Only factory reset helped.

I had no problem? Do you not have an option at the top of the Oppo list to pick from file instead... that's all I did.

How to get custom ringtone to stay the DEFAULT

So I have a custom ringtone from Google Music-it's an MP3 song I own, downloaded, and I connecting my phone to my desktop, I moved the song into the ringtones folder which when I am on the desktop only lists "hangouts" and does not show any of the internal system ringtones that are built into the phone. So the song shows up in the Sounds setting under "Memory" but not under "System" where the built in "Blu" ringtones are.
I can select this song as my DEFAULT ringtone and it stays the default for a while, but then it will revert back to the default Blu Ringtone I had previously selected which was the Blu_ringtone 4 or something. I don't understand why it won't save my setting permanently. How do I get it to do that? I can't move the song to the System folder because I can't find it.
Incidentally, I have a custom SMS tone too which seems to be working fine and it too is from the "memory" but it seems to be staying as the default so far. Any ideas. Right now my custom ringtone is remaining but I'm waiting for it to get knocked off again! Thanks for the help. I looked online but I have to wonder if some of this is peculiar to our phone hear or Android OS stuff-not sure.
I have this same issue. I even made a custom sound profile and it wont stick. However, my custom notification sound works 100% fine.
I have put the ringtone on the SD and the phone/ringtone directory. Neither will stay it is very annoying. I keep missing phonecalls because I am not used to this ringtone.
An update for the phone just came out; so I'll update and let you know if that fixes it.
Update the phone. If you get their new update the phone ring tones will stop resetting.

Thanks. I'm out right now so on LTE but checked for updates and it says my phone is up to date. I will check again later. I did an update a couple weeks ago. And my custom ringtone is NOT holding which is annoying. My SMS one is fine still. But I think I may have the current update already. I hope I don't and that fixes it!!

So how is my procedure different then. Put the mp3 into the Ringtones folder so why isn't it holding? I have a task killer but I have it set to ignore the settings. (Assuming sounds is within that) Hmmm I wonder if maybe it isn't??? I might delete the app and see if that does anything. Thoughts? Addendum! Tried that and after three days, my ringtone defaulted back, so back to square one. I have no idea what will fix this. Very annoying.

Have you tried storing the ringtone in the internal storage of the device and not the SD card?
Yes. It doesn't work. My next step is to try and maybe change it to an ogg file. I have the ringtone sent to memory and not the SD card but it doesn't matter. I have tried several apps and they work a while and then the problem happens again, and the default "system" ringtone one suddenly it resets itself to. I can't find those files when I look for them through explorer apps or on a PC. The same ringtones are in other folders, but then there is this "System" folder that seems to be the one ruling the show as the default and if I could drop the custom file into that, problem I think would be solved. But I also haven't tried converting the song into its present mp3 format to ogg. But do you or anyone have any clue why I can't access the System folder for ringtones? Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I take that back. When I look at my phone itself, I *think* I had put the custom tones into memory, but, no, I think they are in fact in the SD card. So this is my issue, trying to get them to my phone's memory. I can't seem to do that. I'm usually pretty savvy with this stuff and have never had problems setting custom ringtones. I don't know why this phone is eluding me so much.

I just noticed too. Of all weird things: I don't have an SD card in my phone! I don't know why it is saying SD card as location, but I don't have a card in there. I had opted to not use one for now. I also hooked my Note 3 up and had ZERO problems. What is the issue with the file system and this Blu phone to get a lousy custom ringtone in there and drop the darn files into the folder like I just did with the Note 3. I have the Blu for the dual SIM but honestly, a thing like custom ring tones should be straightforward and it's not.

Options pop up when trying to change ringtone

Hi all
I'm new to the forum and have just got my first Android phone, a SGS7 and was wondering if you could help me. I've searched around for a resolution but not found one and it's probably a simple nube thing that I just don't get but...
When I go to change the ringtone, an option pops up "Complete action using" then presents the option of either Solid Explorer or Media Storage. I'm tempted to press on Media Storage and see what happens. However, I still don't know where the ringtone files reside on the phone. Are they stored in Media Storage?
This same thing happened when I first got the phone and I fixed it with "Reset Settings" but I really don't want to start over and have to do that, now the phone is all set up with apps etc. Surely the OS should know where the ringtones are, it found them before and I haven't made any changes by putting my own ringtones on the phone, so I don't get why the situation has changed. Any Ideas please?
Thanks a lot

OK, answered my own question. I chose the Media Storage option and all the default ringtones appeared again. So, no longer a problem. Last time this happened, I chose the wrong option (i.e. I chose Solid explorer) and was unable to access the ringtones until I did a "factory data reset" which is why I was asking for advice. I know all this sounds like a dumb waste of time but I still don't know what the **** Media Storage is, or where exactly the default ringtones lurk. But hey, this is my first Android and I will get to the bottom of it all eventually : - )

How to set different notification ringtone for different apps?

I would like to set different notification ringtones for gmail and sms. However, I cannot figure it out on P20. Any ideas? Thx.
You can set the individual ringtones in the settings of Gmail, Messages etc.

Ok cool, explain !?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
For example, in Messages, click the menu button (top right), then select Settings -> Notifications -> Sound. Select the sound you like.
In Gmail: click the hamburger menu (top left), then scroll all the way down and select Settings. Select your account, then click Manage Notifications. Click on Mail -> Sound. Then select the sound.
Well it's not possible on the P20 Pro
I've looked everywhere how to set different tones for SMSes, Calendar events et emails et it's just impossible. I can't understand why Huawei would block that. It's so basic. Same thing with Gmail lables: impossible to set a specific tone per label. Why?!
same on P20, it just vibrates...what the heck
I replaced the SMS app with another one that allowes to change the tone (truecallers). For the calendar I use the Huawei app for the notifications only. Now for Gmail, I haven't found the way to set a particular tone for a specific label (which I could do on my previous phone).
And I have a problem with Airbnb that doesn't allow to change the notifications tone; my P20 Pro set it to "default" which is most inconvenient.
Same issue here, it seems that Huawei removed the option to choose a specific notification sound in notification management. I can't seem to understand the reasoning behind such a decision... Hopefully they will fix that in a future update
Can't change ringtone....
Wait--- they produced the fanciest camera-phone ever, costs a ferking THOUSAND dollars, and you can't change the sound that incoming gmails / SMS's make??? (On my new P20 Pro this appears to be the case)
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
That's exactly it! It seems unbelievable. Worse... You cannot get rid of the Huawei calendar, therefore when you have Google calendar AND Huawei calendar running at the same time and that you want to add an event with the voice assistant, at the end, you have to manually tap on the calendar you want to enter the event in! No way to complete the task totally handsfree. I'm so not buying another Huawei phone the next time (even though the camera is great).
I'm really disappointed by this too, this is a huge problem! Android has had this ability for years, it makes no sense to take it away.
Same issue hete

Have you found a solution for this? I have the same problem... Cannot change messages notification tone. But I am surprised that the internet is not blown up with this error. Might work for some???
I think I've found a good solution! The AutoNotification app lets you set the sound for any of an apps Notification Categories! I haven't completely tested it yet but so far it seems to be doing what I need.

Hi, have you got this sorted yet?
I have not long had my P20 Pro and have also found it frustrating but I have sat and played around with it and found the solution, albeit it a bit of a hassle to do!
Apologies for no doubt going over old ground here, but I need to work on the assumption that there maybe others, slightly less experienced, that may also be trying to work this out.
Ringtone first! Use a computer and Windows Media Player, to first get your desired tunes/tones onto. (Rip into Media Player using MP3 from the settings tab).
Next, unlock your P20 Pro and connect to your computer using the supplied USB cable, once connected, swipe the screen down and select the “MTP” option (file transfer). Your P20 Pro will then be recognised by your computer and will quickly show up in Media Player on the right hand side.
It’s then just a matter of dragging and dropping any content from the left side of the Media Player window into this area on the right. Once done, be sure to click “sync” above your devices name.
Then disconnect your P20 Pro from the computer, go to “Settings”, then “Sounds”, scroll up until you see “Phone ringtone”, click this, next select “Music (on storage)” at the top right, choose your desired tune by popping a dot in the adjoining circle and finally click on the tick, top right corner, to apply. Done!
Next, Email notification sounds.
I have my home screen setup so that once unlocked, I can see the “@“ icon (with Email written underneath it) in the middle bottom section of the screen, but it is this icon you will need to use, if it’s not where mine is!
Although this may seem very odd, I can assure you that it works.
You MUST use this icon “@“ to setup your email account(s) in order to then be able to set different tunes/tones for each of them.
The first time you hit the “@“ icon you will be prompted to select what type of mail account you are using etc, follow all relevant onscreen prompts to get setup.
Whichever mail account you add first will become the default sender for emails, this can only be changed once you have added an additional email account.
Once your account(s) have been successfully setup, exit back to the home screen, only so that we are starting from the same point!
Select the “@“ icon, the default sending account opens first, next, click the three dots at the bottom right labelled “More”, then select “Settings”, look under the section “ACCOUNTS” and select which account you wish to deal with, next, scroll the screen up until you see the section “NOTIFICATION SETTINGS”, from here select “Choose ringtone”, and finally, select “Music (on storage)” to find the tunes/tones that you previously added using Windows Media Player, place a dot in the corresponding circle, click the tick to the the top right of the screen to apply your selection. This technique can now be used for all other email accounts, to give you separate tunes/tones for each email account.
You can, of course, also use a third party app, such as “Zedge Ringtones” and once you have selected and downloaded your chosen tone, it will appear under your phones settings/sounds/phone ringtone or default notification sound/Sound
Hope this helps, my P20 Pro is now finally personalised to my own liking!
I think I have worked it out.
Click on setting then click on general settings.
Then click on manage notification
Under you email address you will see - Email normal: allow these notifications. Click on the writing and not on the blue slide at the end.
Under notification category a little way down you will see sound. Change your notification

Traded up from Honor 8 where I was happy as a clam regarding the notification options. I had them all just right: different ringtone for each SIM, separate notifications for my email accounts and, most importantly, different tones for SMS on each of my SIMs, plus the general notification tone for everything else. Now here I am, holding my Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS and all I get is ONE notification tone for my SMS and any other notifications.
Seriously?!

Maybe someone has found the solution? I can’t believe P20 can’t set different tone for notifications and mail. It has tons of unuseful settings, but this one was essentiall! If I knew this before, I would never ever bye Huawei P20!! It’s a disaster! (
Unfortunatelly you can't.

Custom Notification sounds no longer available

I recently got the Note 10 plus and when I tried to use my custom notification sounds they don't show up any longer like they did on my previous S10 plus. I've downloaded them and then copied and pasted them to the internal notification folder as well as the ring tone folder but they don't show up to be used for messages or gmail for example. I contacted Samsung support and they said the option was removed in the latest update. Anyone else try?

Really not sure, I transferred mine via usb from pc to phone.
I use Zedge to set custom tones. Been doing it for several versions now and it still works for me. Probably a permissions issue.

I'm sure you were given the wrong information about them being removed. I'm using custom sounds in ringtones and also in text notifications. Look in your contacts>more options>notification sounds or ringtones. You should be able to do it in your texting program as well (I use chompsms) by right clicking on the conversation list for each individual contact and selecting notification. See if that solves it. Losing ability for custom sounds would be a very bad thing indeed!
Did a factory reset and now it works. Those ppl at Samsung don't know their own products.
I was used to the 'Knock Knock' sound for txt's on my Note9. Anyway, found a download of all the factory Note9 audio files (http://www.mediafire.com/file/ed5y26zn5g3wp30/Galaxy-Note-9-audio-files.zip/file), unzipped and placed 'S_Knock.ogg' into 'Internal Storage > Notifications' and it became selectable as a notification sound.

I too was missing that and the actual ring tones from note 9 are also missing so my ringtones are just the new **** music. I think this is going to be my last sammy device. So sick of their incompetency
Had to download the whatsapp and Facebook messenger ring tones as well as the knock knock for text as they sounds defaulted to the regular ring tone. So stupid that they did this, not letting apps select their own sounds to default

Question Add custom or replace default ringtones or notification tones. Is it possibile?

Hi guys, Is there a chance to add custom ringtones or notification tones to watch 4?
Or maybe to replace the default one with other files with the same name....
It's not working to add files trough Manage Content/Add Tracks

That didn't work for me. If I try to move it to the ringtones or notifications folder it won't allow me to move or copy over the file.
Actually it did sort of work. One of two mp3s did appear when I dropped them into the Notifications and Ringtones folder but the other mp3 didn't. It didn't appear straight away but I've no idea what triggers it and why one mp3 worked and the other didn't.
Anyone have an answer for this?

1. I use Samsung Music Player on my phone with a number of playlists that I synced over to my watch through the Wearables app.
2. I then downloaded a File Explorer on my watch from the Google Play app store.
3. I opened the app, browsed through my watch and found a media folder containing all the songs I had synced over. I chose a song I wanted as the ringtone and copied it over to two other folders, one called Notifications and another called Ringtones. These folders were NOT in the Root folder.
I actually copied over several songs but only one appeared as selectable in the Sound menu of my watch. I've no idea why that one song appeared but the other didn't.
4. Also you might need to restart the watch and wait for a while as the song didn't appear straightaway.
I can confirm
(1) use the wearables app to transfer the ringtone/notification in MP3 format to the watch.
(2) Then a file explorer to copy the ringtone to internal memory/ringtone and/or the notification to internal memory/notification
(3) Press and hold home button and select power off
(4) Press and hold home button to turn watch back on
(5) wait (even for a little after the watch has finished booting)
They then show up as a ringtone/notification but ONLY on the watch (Galaxy Watch 4 Classic), you can't make the change on the phone as it doesn't see them in the wearables app (or didn't for me anyway).

I had to search for a file explorer on the watch itself
theres a notification and ringtone folder in the internal partition, but theres also a media folder where the default notifications and ringtones are stored in the root partition as well.
I dont know if you have write permission in the root area though.
I was looking for the hourly tone to see if it could be replaced, but i dont see it in the list of system sounds which it has for things like charge and touch. The watch ticking sound seems to be its own app also.
@sesnut you don't need to add them to the root partition, just the one mentioned in my post.
@al czervik I picked Wear File Manager as it was the first I came across with a rating above 4.
What's now annoying me is I can't specify an alarm tone it uses the ringing tone.

yea but if added to the root partition it will probably show up in the wearable app, assuming it doesnt use its own list and pulls it from the watch
@sesnut maybe, but that would most probably require root permissions...
I did just try and it would appear a symlink is created into that folder as when I tried to paste the ringtone into the ringtone folder in the device root it said the file already exists.. Despite it not showing.

Click to collapse
This method works. Thank you.
can confirm that sounds do not show up on phone
I noticed that the list on the phone is using alphabetical order and doesnt actually specifically list what ringtones are on the watch so whatever you named your ringtone it will take up that slot and play that tone when you select it.
meh, me im old school
i have 3 folders under my platform-tools folder (or any folder with adb.exe in it), named Alarms, Notifications and Ringtones, with the suitable files in the matching folders
and a batch file called pushtowatch.bat, with contents:
Code:
adb push Alarms /sdcard
adb push Notifications /sdcard
adb push Ringtones /sdcard
as im often resetting and/or testing stuff, i just
1) enable developer mode on Watch (im going to do this anyways)
2) enable ABD Debugging (Debug Over Wifi)
3) adb connect <ip> (using IP shown in above step)
4) run pushtowatch.bat
5) disable ABD Debugging (Debug Over Wifi) - otherwise battery drain
6) reboot Watch to update media index so files show in picker
everybody ought to know how to do simple things the manual way, i dont install apps to do things i can do without too much drama, of course you can add other files to stock folders in a similar way
