How to spot a Geekbench listing first? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I notice that some tech sites are able to post Geekbench first even before it appears to the general public. How are they able to do that?
Thanks,
Starwin

The manufacturer sends them the device to test before it is released to the general public.

[Q] Sidekick LX 2009

HI
I have an Unlocked Sidekick LX 2009 which I bought it off e-bay and all the regular phone features like Calling, Texting, GPRS etc., seem to be working fine (even in India )
The problem that i have is with the downloading of games. I am able to download music files(mp3) and video files(mp4 and 3gp) but when it comes to any other file type like jar files it(opera mini the only browser available on the phone) throws an error "The Download is not Supported". My first guess was that the browser was the cause for the problem but found out that the issues is that the OS allows files to be downloaded only through the DOWNLOAD CATLOG(this feature is not available on my device as the unlocked version of the LX 2009 these days don't come with it)
My question is,
Is there a way that i can download and have applications installed on my device, if yes how?
or
Is there a way that i can remove the current OS(guess its based on NETBSD as per Wikipedia) and have Android installed
PS: If anyone wants any more information about the device please PM me or mail me @ [email protected]
Maybe running Danger SDK would enable the phone to be in some kind of developer mode. Good luck finding USB drivers in the post XP era since I am having a difficult time trying to enable USB mode in Windows 7.
As for operating system, I do recall Cincinnati Bell released a rebadge of the phone called the "Sharp Jump" and the newer operating system is not tied to Danger's Services via the old Tmobile portal. Maybe if some brave soul dumps the firmware of the PV300g (Sharp Jump) and finds a way to flash the PV-300 phones (the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009).

Is there a rule stating I can't gather people to start a developer group? If so, I humbly apologize. I don't wanna step on anyone's toes. I just don't appreciate the way your words are kind of worded. Seems very demanding and a bit hostile. If it's that serious, you could very much private message me in regards about it in the first place, and I kindly would've obliged dialog about my posts.

Yes, you can, my point is, anyone coming here and viewing this thread when they are searching for answers related to the subject matter of this thread will not get any kind of answers in this thread if the discussion/solution is held elsewhere.

ROMs for Pure/Style that are not supported on XDA

I have been starting to compile a list of ROMs that are not found on XDA for the clark (Pure/Style)... Note that due to some of the authors preference, there are no threads here, so out of respect this is just a pointer, not a discussion or support area for these ROMs, please use their official areas.
Here is a couple, know of anymore???
BrokenOS - Download link removed per BrokenOS FAQ
ZephyrOS - Downloads
NOTE: This thread does not supply links to ROM builds if it is specifically requested by the ROM owner, and we do not provide support for any ROM, or even reviews, it is just a reference to point you in the right direction to take care of things yourself. Do not PM me or any other person here about these ROMs. The owners of these ROMs do not post them here for a reason, this is just a reference so you can find them and it is not my intent to circumvent their reasons for not posting them here, or question their reasons.
BrokenOS may not appreciate you linking their ROM on XDA.
See attached pic.
It's what I run and their Google+ page is pretty particular about this.
I've never tried the Zephyr you linked.
Someone seems to not understand how the internets work.

I removed the download link, but I believe link to their main site is acceptable.
Zephyr I just found browsing AFH's clark area, really know nothing about it.

Do you think the developers of those ROMs are somehow unaware of XDA's existence?

No, of course not... But many users of XDA are unaware of any these ROMs or how to look for them, or even if they should. My point is not to support or discuss these ROMs, that is best left for their official channels, but to make users aware there are options outside of XDA because many users think XDA has everything, and although it is a great resource, it is hardly all encompassing.

This is not a thread to discuss or even review these ROMs, its only purpose is to make users who wouldn't otherwise know, aware of their existence.
It is a topic I tread lightly with... I do not want to step on people's toes but many people would never know some of these existed unless referred to somehow.

Actually, I don't think that's the case... Some developers just dislike XDA.

It's ridiculous in the first place to publicly release a rom online and expect to keep the community limited. Obviously people will find it and share it on other more popular sites.
If these developers really wanted full control over their userbase their roms wouldn't be easily found through google searches.
It's on Google Plus. Available to anyone with a Google account.
They aren't hiding their ROM's from the public.
Not everyone likes XDA's rules and regulations.
I've been upset with XDA myself but never enough to leave.
Developers have even more strict rules to abide by and some dev's leave for various reasons.
XDA isn't the only Android community you know.
ROM development goes on at plenty of other websites.
I'm not sure why some of you don't understand that.
I'm not pointing at the OP btw, I for one appreciate the thread intentions.
---------- Post added at 01:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 PM ----------
Btw, I trust ROM's from XDA more than other sites, specifically because of XDA's strict rules about open sourcing, etc.
I'm only on Broken ROM because I'm familiar with the team's development for a long time.
Otherwise I would not run any ROM from any other site.
Keeping your development closed source is not automatic grounds for suspicion but it does make a person wonder.
Someone asked for a review of Broken.
To someone who knows nothing about developing (me), it's 99% the same thing as Dirty Unicorn's ROM but uses the newer version of Layers instead of DU's CM theming. And it has more built in themed stuff. But options-wise it's very similar.
I won't talk about performance, battery or stability because it's all subjective and XDA does not like that type of comparison discussion because it's stupid and I agree with that.

My impression is that the average IQ of XDA has dropped precipitously over the last few years, making threads here a never ending stream of the same, usually stupid, questions.
I wasn't aware that the rules here were particularly restrictive.
This thread is a nice idea, but if I was a dev running away from the general populace here, I'd be pissed at someone redirecting their numbskullery at me.

If a dev wanted to control who knows about, or talks about their ROM it would be easy... A site that requires a login and approval by them. I know of some of these "ghosts", but I won't link them (it wouldn't apply to this device anyway).
The two I linked are easy to find... BrokenOS specifically requests not to have their ROMs linked or distributed on any other site, and I did not do this, that is the only request I found, and their builds are clearly available on AFH. Zephyr OS is all over XDA, just no thread for our device, but someone is building it and I ran across it in AFH we'll browsing the Clark section.
These are good roms that the average user wouldn't know of otherwise, and if a legitimate rep for either asked for it to removed, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Can't disagree with the general quality or apparently low IQ of many new users, when a simple search would answer many of these questions.

There is an unofficial Telsa build on Ground Zero ROMs G+ page in the unofficial section from about 6 weeks ago, but it looks like it had some issues and was never cleaned up or finished. Too bad, Tesla/Tipsy/Validus are great ROMs and super stable.
Paranoid Android is weird... years ago there were once builds for everything and it was often used as a base ROM for other builds, but now they have about 25 official devices and other than that I don't know, their website is pretty bad and there are no unofficial build listed at all, definitely no Clark build so far.
I don't think either is worth linking in the first post.
Is this broken rom decent? Not trying to read 5000 pages to find out general info about this ROM
I just downloaded and flashed it tonight. So far so good. Only thing I miss is ad blocking for YouTube. Other that it's very smooth and has advanced lte.

BLU Life One X2?

Just got mine today. There's nothing on XDA about it anywhere. How do I get a thread or dedicated forum started up for this device properly?
Let me know guys I've never had a device that wasn't listed anywhere on XDA before.
Thanks

There are selective criteria that must be met before a device gets a forum. If there is no development available and if it isn't a very popular device with a large community and other criteria then you won't be getting a forum.
You can try making a request though, there is a thread here specifically for new device forum requests, post your request there.
I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS FOR EVERYONE TO SHARE
I've got the BLU Life One X2 as well. It would be good with a forum for it eventually.

anyone able to root?
Re:
I have used the BLU Life One X in last year. It was a simple and attractive set. You can compare it with HTC Desire 600. The only difference would the outer design. I haven't see the latest version. But 1 friend told that it is similar to Samsung Galaxy S5.
Just got my device yesterday. Love it. Question? Anybody knows how to screenshot?

Getdroidtips.com

Hello everyone
In search for new ROMs for some older devices (yet still great hardware, such as Nook HD and Lenovo s930) I have, I stumbled across this website: getdroidtips.com
For example, for the phone I mentioned, it has a list of available options:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/custom-rom-lenovo-s930/
Question is, can the site be trusted at all? I have searched high and low, but found no mention or reference of the site anywhere, the ROM guides contain no comments. As if it lived in an alternate reality.
What about the needrom.com? It also has ROMs I might like, but it was just redflagged by Malwarebytes on mylaptop.
I'd appreciate some insight from those of you who happen to know anything about those sites.
Best
W.

Seems shady, they're listening custom roms that do not exist. My guess is they're fishing for clicks, or worse.
I think they're scam. The whole website is a loophole that moves you though page after page, and in the end you end up where your started.

Opinions on CalyxOS - I can't find much about it

Noob here, so, hope I am posting in the correct forum.
I just picked up a Pixel 3a and was planning on installing GrapheneOS. In doing some research about GrapheneOS, I stumbled across CalyxOS (forum rules prohibit me from posting a link). Has anyone had had any experience installing CalyxOS and using it for an extended period of time? If so, what are your thoughts? Is it stable? Can it be used as a daily driver? What are its pluses and drawbacks?
I can't find much information about it at all. As far as I can tell there is nothing about it here on XDA and there are no demo vids on YouTube. All thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not following you. If you mean somewhere here on XDA forums - as far as I can tell there is no "location" for CalyxOS. Not from the search function anyway.
If you mean where I read about it - that was in some random comment by the developer of GrapheneOS.
I just thought someone here on the XDA forums may have had some experience with it and would chime in. Apparently not.

Trace it back to it's source, like maybe try Githib, I'm sure the developer has his repository posted there, Github also has a forum that you can post in.
There is this also.
https://calyxos.org/
Check the additional links at the bottom of the page also. There is more information in those links.
Then there is this at Gitlab, I guess they do their work there instead of Github.
https://gitlab.com/calyxos
I'm sure you can find answers in one of those places.

So why are discussions of some ROMs such as Calyx and Graphene prohibited on XDA? XDA has always been the best in all aspects of Android support.

My point was, it is best to go to the source of the ROM for answers and issues related to that ROM. The reason why I say that is because that will be the best source of information related to that ROM because no one knows that ROM better than the people that made it. Also, if your issues or questions are something that the developer of the ROM may need to make changes to their ROM to solve the issue or question that you have, contacting the developer would bring it to their attention.
My reply had nothing to do with discussion of that ROM or any other ROM not being allowed to be discussed here at XDA.

Anyway, have you seen the support for those other ROMs such as Graphene. It is a chat server. While some try to help, others are arrogant techies that try to make you feel stupid. In addition, there is no easy archive to review and catch up with such as XDA. I find a forum far more user friendly than a live chat service.
