HI
I have an Unlocked Sidekick LX 2009 which I bought it off e-bay and all the regular phone features like Calling, Texting, GPRS etc., seem to be working fine (even in India )
The problem that i have is with the downloading of games. I am able to download music files(mp3) and video files(mp4 and 3gp) but when it comes to any other file type like jar files it(opera mini the only browser available on the phone) throws an error "The Download is not Supported". My first guess was that the browser was the cause for the problem but found out that the issues is that the OS allows files to be downloaded only through the DOWNLOAD CATLOG(this feature is not available on my device as the unlocked version of the LX 2009 these days don't come with it)
My question is,
Is there a way that i can download and have applications installed on my device, if yes how?
or
Is there a way that i can remove the current OS(guess its based on NETBSD as per Wikipedia) and have Android installed
PS: If anyone wants any more information about the device please PM me or mail me @ [email protected]
Maybe running Danger SDK would enable the phone to be in some kind of developer mode. Good luck finding USB drivers in the post XP era since I am having a difficult time trying to enable USB mode in Windows 7.
As for operating system, I do recall Cincinnati Bell released a rebadge of the phone called the "Sharp Jump" and the newer operating system is not tied to Danger's Services via the old Tmobile portal. Maybe if some brave soul dumps the firmware of the PV300g (Sharp Jump) and finds a way to flash the PV-300 phones (the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009).

Ok, I should've specified in regards to modding and hacking into the actual sidekick. I have a few I've fixed up, and wanna run some custom code. Looking for ways to get in, I've documented several chips inside the device, and if wished to discuss further, please message me on telegram. Thank you.

Is there a rule stating I can't gather people to start a developer group? If so, I humbly apologize. I don't wanna step on anyone's toes. I just don't appreciate the way your words are kind of worded. Seems very demanding and a bit hostile. If it's that serious, you could very much private message me in regards about it in the first place, and I kindly would've obliged dialog about my posts.

Yes, you can, my point is, anyone coming here and viewing this thread when they are searching for answers related to the subject matter of this thread will not get any kind of answers in this thread if the discussion/solution is held elsewhere.

The easiest way is to back up all your stuff and flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Its a rooted Stock ROM with the update.
That or flash any of the ROM's from the Dev section.
I should add that once you download it, rename it PD98IMG.zip and put in the root of your SDcard. Check MD5 Sums and if they match up, power down your device, then boot into hboot (vol down + Power).
Let the bootloader find the image and then volume up to update.
Thanks for the help! You would think being an A+ and DELL certified computer technician, I could figure this Android stuff out but it's a whole different world. I appreciate the help and look forward to many more here.

Or at least be able to do a search for the answer to an extremely common question first.
God forbid you ask a question on the General Forums... Welcome to the asshole filled world of XDA buddy! I can't wait for the Mango Phone 7 update!
True, you do have a slight point but I've noticed that the search around here works about as well as every other forum. You do a search for something and you get hundreds of results that have no bearing on what you actually searched for.
Hey, what's wrong with spending 2 hours going thru a 200 page thread looking for an answer that someone can answer in 2 minutes. LOL.

If you search and don't find it your not reading, by going to the search function in the general forum, and typing in update ( just update nothing else) it will pull up about 8 threads dedicated to what this thread is about.
Everyone is welcome, and we enjoy helping someone when they follow the rules of the forum, which includes actually trying to search for an answer like most of us have, instead of asking someone to hand it to them.

Quite true. There are also people who are well aware of the browser version of the sites two search boxes, and long for the day when the XDA app will be a fully functional alternative.
XDA is a lot quicker for reading, but can't do some important tasks that are important to a serious XDA member...
Robust thread search, thanks button, easy copy of thread url for pasting into posts, etc.

For the most part, I see those posts get answers anyways. Even if it isn't from a frustrated veteran, there usually someone that just learned it themself that is willing to help. Trust me, I understand the frustration, but when you go to the stickies and see the guides and videos say they are outdated, you start to wonder if the answer you found is outdated too. I think many find it more reasurring if they can get a more current and direct answer.

The only reason they are outdated, is because the hack, gets updated once a month, and its one version 11 so there would need to be at least 11 videos, for each version of the hack kit, which would require unrooting the phone then downloading the hack kit (every time), then making a video. That is pretty time consuming.
The reason the outdated videos are posted, is an effort to educate people, on what they are doing, even if the hack kit has changed a little bit it still gives you a general idea of how it works.
With that said, this very topic, is covered in the f.a.q. of the guide, I updated about 3 weeks ago when the ota update came out, and there was 4 threads saying "my update failed and I'm rooted".
Apparently I do not know how to read.
I help A LOT of people here on xda all day everyday some donate some don't. its very hard to help people on xda cus when helping them other people jump in and start either telling the person im helping don't do that do this or they just plain old spam. i have helped a very large amount of people on g talk and they have told me they like to be helped MORE on g talk than on xda because we have 100% full privacy to do what we need to do. please choose how you like to be helped Either xda or PM or g talk. at the end of the week ill count all of them up and from the results i will help people based on the results on this thanks very much.
To put the poll into better context I believe that you should also read this thread Although I've quoted the relevant posts below:

Hello, Paul,
Firstly, thanks (again) for your input into the forum. I'm genuinely not intending to create conflict here or trying to play the role of a mod. Now, I know that you've had this sort of comment before, but, I agreed with it then and I'm afraid that I still do.
While at times the PM route can be useful to resolve issues, it shouldn't be the only or primary option. The whole principle of XDA is openness and sharing, so resolving an issue in thread permits that the next user(s) (and there is always another, who suffers from the exact same problem) from hopefully using the Search function and then following the resolution from the thread by themselves.
That way we're working towards creating a valuable resource rather than loosing useful input into hidden PMs.
PM's do have there place for 'user to user' communication, that would otherwise populate the forum unnecessarily but once a thread has been created I believe that it should be used to reolve the original issue.
If a new user needs that much hand holding then one wonders whether they should be risking their £200-£400 device in the first place! before reading up some more....

me helping people over PM is better because its faster and more safer for the person im helping. if im trying to guide him then other people jump in and comment he isnt going to know who to listen to and he will get very confused. this has happend before. by helping over PM or my gmail is better for them, and me. and i ALWAYS ask them after to write a guide as to how i helped them and what they did. i at NO point mean to upset anyone. but you have got to understand that this is the only way that i can help these people as you may well know here on xda people have got there opinions and they like to jump in whenever they want. if i tell him to do somthing some1 might jump in and say no or do this and do that. i have had EVERYONE i have helped say thanks to me and its better this way. i have helped MANY people achieve proper s-off. i will no open a poll. and it will ask the people of xda if they would prefer to be helped via PM or Gtalk or on here. if more people prefer xda then i will start helping via xda

As someone whom Paul has helped through gtalk, It was very beneficial to me as we were able to quickly and easily communicate, as any other method is rather slow and crude. I definitely do agree with your point on xda being a repository for information however, therefore communicating through gtalk or similar could withhold information from other users. However I have now written up a short guide of what I did to solve my problem on the original thread, and I believe that if people do this then everyone wins tbh, and it has the added advantage of the treads being shorter and more concise, therefore it is easier to find the relevant information.
As someone who has done all his stiff by reading through threads and others opinions, I will always advocate all discussions on XDA

On the 16th the poll will close and whatever the winning method is thats the way i will help people from now on. i do wish ALL people will take something out of the way i help them. as me getting them properly s-off uses alot of things like commands running adb , fastboot and so on. by helping them do these things it then in turn helps them. as if i didnt help them and they needed to to adb or fastboot commands and they never knew howto that could result in a not needed thread being opened **How to use adb or fastboot** this is a good way for me to help these people. i think people should help people the way they do and let other people carry on with the ways they do things. ( no offence meant ben your opinion means alot to me your a good person ) but if it states in the rules ( only help people on xda ) then i will stop if it dont then i will carry on as im not doing anything wrong. and even so if you guys think your losing out on infomation. i will open up a guide covering absolutly EVERYTHING on the desire s from fastboot adb changing roms, splash, radio, hboot and covering everything on what the desire s is capable of doing. what limits it has and other things. this in a sense will be the desire s XDA user guide let me know if u think thats a good isea ben. and as i go along anything i help people out with thats not in the new guide ill just update it ????????????

I have a usb-uart with buspirate guide I've been working on for a little while.
I will post it soon. I was hoping to take a few more pictures... but I'll just have to add them later.
What phone/device do you have? That will help answer the movinand question.
This should have been asked in a Q&A forum.
It is the microsoft kin twom.I'm hoping one of these devices will be able to pull off some info as far as the bootloader and or system files. The phone is very locked down and running out of ideas for how to get into it.Can a mod move this too the right forum?Let me know when you get your project up,cause i definitley want to check it out.

I get that irritable sensation that you're being lazy, as it seem you haven't bothered to search the forum at all. Answers to all your questions can be answered by searching... Here is your phone specs. Although they don't mention what Tegra processor you have...
Here is your Google search string:
Code:
[URL="https://encrypted.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&q=UART+site%3Aforum.xda-developers.com&oq=UART+site%3Aforum.xda-developers.com&gs_l=serp.3...69372.77789.0.78005.14.14.0.0.0.1.141.1164.13j1.14.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.SIkcCldMwac"]UART site:forum.xda-developers.com[/URL]
And YES this is QA post.
And YES you should change the title of your post!
(Or you gonna piss-off a whole bunch of people looking for "unbrickable" mod...)
Wow...Lazy? Really? lol.Believe me,i have been searching/reading the xda forums for awhile relating to usb to serial/nvflash/movinand chips/uart/bus pirate and everything that has to do with it.I know the complete specs of the phone and as far as which model tegra processor,it doesnt matter at the moment. The things i asked are that what couldnt be found from the hours i searched on xda developers and google by itself.Believe me i have searched.A random search link on xda about uart doesnt tell me much more than what i already know.
I asked if there were schematic for adam outler's design since it seems to work better than the others i have seen on here and other forums.I cant ask him directly since im sure he has a life too instead of going through tons of messages. The other things i asked couldnt be found on here or from a google search....so i thought this would be the place to ask.bhundven seems like the one that will help me out though.
Well you know best. But I always recommend the much easier to use FTDI USB serial cables/modules. However, the BusPirate is more versatile as it supports many more protocols and even JTAG to an extremely limited extent.
You need to figure out what voltage levels you need for that device. Usually with serial over USB, you need 3.3V, while for direct on-PCB UARTs you probably need 1.8V. But since you have your Tegra proc specs, that is no problem right?
I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S III SCH-R530 32GB from U.S. Cellular and haven't rooted it or anything. I was wondering if anyone had any instructions or tips they could give me?
Before this I had a Motorola Electrify that I successfully rooted, but since this is a newer phone I'm guessing the steps have changed since then.
I have heard stuff about some triangle sometimes appearing after rooting, and something else about a counter.
I would like to root my Galaxy S so that those things don't happen if possible.
Any help would be great, thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Anyone going to help? Thank you.

I understand where you are coming from with seeing it many times, but why do you have to be so harsh? Some of us do attempt before we ask. But seeing a response like yours makes it more frustrating then helpful. You're a junior member, if you can't be nice or respond with something nice then don't at all.
I'm sure at one point in time you were in the "noob" shoes. And I'm sure you were frustrated as well. Did you feel good when someone was ruthless and harsh like that to you?
Not being rude, just stating a fact.

If they're such a problem, admins should be deleting them so they aren't everyone else's number one search hit. Yes, I know this will only make the thread come back up, but it's already #1 Google. If the question isn't worth anyone answering, no need to be in the questions and answers section.
For anyone who got here searching Google. This thread is not a guide. A link or two down on "SCH-R530 root" there's an android sc link with a guide and download. (That was just the next closest, so there's something here.)

There's no need for you to respond to this thread especially since the last response was 3 months and 4 days ago. You're just wasting forum space.

No man, I really hate people who ask for help and then shouts at those same people who helps you. The guy previously there just gave a comment to help the people who land on this thread future. For example "me".. The OP didn't have to be so rude about that IMHO. No offence to you BTW

While it may be annoying, imagine how annoying it becomes when tens of users continually ask "how do you root such and such models" without ever bothering to spend 5 or 10 minutes googling it or searching the forum they post in. Unless a phone model literally just came out, there's going to be information in more than one place on how to root that device. It becomes frustrating to many people when individual after individual consciously refuses to take 5 - 10 minutes and research what they want. I love helping people, and I regularly post in other forums, but when numerous individuals ask how to root their devices when the information is extremely easy to find by simply going to Google and typing "root [model number]" or "how to root [model number]", it shows the person doesn't really care about helping themselves (if they don't care, how can anyone else). If a person can't find the information after 10 minutes of researching on their own, then I have no complaint... but considering the vast majority of questions on how to root a device can be answered with a simple Google search, if a person refuses to make this simple effort, then I don't feel they should be told how to root it since they're expecting to be treated like a child and have someone else act as a parent.
Forums are there as a tool to help people, but that doesn't absolve an individual from the responsibility to help themselves.

Carrier doesn't generally matter... the model number of the phone does.

CF-Auto-root
Sorry i am a noob and may have missed this in another forum but does cf auto root work for the us celluar s3 running 4.3?
I myself have landed on this page through Google & the sites search function several times, in fact in three pages this is the most relevant. So for my own benefit and others here are three methods for the galaxy s3 sch-r530 that I've found for either the 530 specifically & earlier android builds, r530 with 4.3 or all s3's. The link for the Sprint root method posted earlier links back to this forum within the one posted.
C.f. auto root (didn't work for me, going to try again with most recent odin) www.theandroidsoul.com/root-us-cell...530u-using-one-click-cf-auto-root-tool-51446/

Wizzed Bean Rom CN4 sound with bluetooth on
Help as I can't post to the original thread and I have so many answers about this rom. Fist the rom works fine except that sound during a call turns off if i go and turn on bluetooth. I heard in the details that there is a bluetooth issue was that it? or do I need to turn on some feature to use bluetooth especially if I plan to setup my car to use my phone.
