I have only been able to successfully restore the twrp backup only once, and that too only data partition, restoring others never worked. Most probably it might be encryption issues. Now I don't rely on twrp backups,I use swift backup for backing up apps and I setup rom each time.
If you still wanna use twrp backup/restore consider keeping your storage unencrypted in the future.
Also you can try restoring the twrp backup after setting up oos once, but without any password..just pass the setup screen and then try restoring..give it a try, might work.

So if I flash oos and restore data only it might work right ? And is it safe to have unencrypted phone ?

It might work, I haven't tried it so can't guarantee anything
Well if you use your phone carefully then encryption is not a big deal I think, anyway I am not the expert here
Encryption is really annoying for me, I am currently dual booting so encryption might cause some data loss in case I screw up.

Okay I flashed oos and rebooted to system and then I restored system and data and then wiped dalvik/art and it worked

I use the dual boot twrp and restore full backup to both slots
You can switch between the slots trough the reboot menu
I stored the full backup on a USB stick
When installing the dual boot twrp I chose to disable all verification and encryption, make sure to flash it from USB stick with your current twrp
Now both of my slots work fine, before one slot was corrupted and showed the Qualcomm dump error
Finally I can easily and securely make full twrp backups and restore then to both slots

I have this on my phone....

I have already CMW 4 on my system, after a recovery power on, I have selected backup and it putted the backup on sd folder named CMW/backup...I know I can restore it with the restore command, but I am not sure if it will work, or if will BRICK my phone

After a custom rom, install Titanium Backup, open it, press the left button, select Batch, select All restore and follow instructions.
Previously, when doing a backup, select Backup All apps + data.
To Titanium work system must be rooted.
mmm it seems quite strange...why other people use cmw , wipe cache , dalvik etc? your way seems a lot easy

twrp - can't install this package on top of incompatible data

i have followed all the steps using NRT to unlock boot-loader and root the phone.
Installed TWRT manager and flashed the recovery.
Now i am trying to flash CM12 for the first time and stuck with error message "can't install this package on top of incompatible data" during flashing .
downloaded the following flash zip from CM website: cm-12.1-20150901-SNAPSHOT-YOG4PAO237-hammerhead.zip (281.77 MB)
Can any one help me what needs to be done to proceed further.
i didnt wipe the data before. Now its working and closing the thread
I wiped everything on my phone via TWRP. Still getting this error!
This topic is old but in case someone else gets here I got a solution - Change /data partition filesystem to ext4 or other supported by ROM

In twrp, I had to fumble around to find advance wipe to clear data but worked like charm after that.
Thank you!
xiaomi note 4g dior
Let me tell my story,
My friend gave me an old xiaomi note 4g which was stuck at the MI icon on boot,
Luckily the phone did not lock boot-loader
So I use xiaomi flash rom to flash global room , it worked after i tried sometimes.
Then I booted to the phone, and other problem came, the phone was linked with an Mi Account , and my friend forgot everything about it
not email, no phone number
I did a search and they said the only way to bypass the MiAccount is using a Resurrection ROM or balallala
so I ended up with using
1. fastboot to install twrp
2. open twrp --> open adb sideload mode.
3. Open window command line and install Resurrection ROM though adb sideload
While installing rom though adb slideload , i got the same issue with topic
SO i cleared data and tried again,
IT WORKED , NO MORE ****ING MiAccount
THANK a lot

Hi
Playing with my wife's Nexus 5, bootloader unlocked, rooted, and latest TWRP installed but when trying to flash from android 6.0.1 to Lineage, I'm getting an error 7 image shown I hope.....
Is this just because I haven't wiped the data first ? (I'm fairly sure but...)
I dont dare try 'cause if it's not that she'll kill me, so would like to be sure before I wipe all her data..
Thanks
Update, it was that I just wiped all except the SD and flashed, all is just great

I have had the same issue with TWRP. While I cannot find any cause for it, a reboot (or more than one) into recovery seems to eventually result in the actual files being shown. This is even more of an issue if installing the .img and needing to then install a .zip. It can take a couple times. Strange, this has only happened with my wife's Pixel and not my XL but that may just be luck. Did not have this issue with Apha 2, only RC1.

It's because the data on your Pixel is encrypted AND TWRP can't decrypt at that time for some reasons. Keep rebooting it until it can successfully decrypt.

Don't know what to advise you further since it happens to all of us. I would only provide suggestions on issues that I myself came across. I can only relay my experience (Verizon). I use TWRP RC1. It happens to me whether or not I have my device passworded. It happens to me more often when I change boot slot. In other words, if I go to Reboot, change slot, and reboot, I would get that situation. But if, from inside TWRP, I power off the phone, then I can get a successful decryption pretty much 95% of the time. It seems like a programmatic timing issue to me. From my app development experience, sometimes if task B gets executed before task A because of driver issues or timing issues, I'd get undesired results (not unexpected, just undesired).
Are you doing a full reboot or just rebooting Recovery? I find it often have to do a full reboot for it to pick it up sometimes.

Try changing your lock screen method (in the os) to something else. I use a pattern and have had no trouble getting twrp to prompt me for it.
try to reboot recovery and system will work, I have encountered same issue.
had this issue the other day when updating to the January build. while in your current rom delete the twrp folder within your internal storage. next time you restart into TWRP, it will prompt you to enter the decryption password
Or use an external USB drive and bypass the entire decryption problem altogether.
use SD card or use OTG cable with pendrive and put file their and select OTG directory from twrp.

OneMax | Backing up the important stuff | avoid paying for fingerprint recovery

Just as a back story. I was messing around with installing ROM images using SPflash, and I made a BIG mistake! I selected the Format + Download option. I had previously done a backup with TWRP onto microsd, so I thought no big deal. Well, as it turns out, without backing up a specific partition with TWRP you will lose the fingerprint option and stored fingerprints with any ROM you install (including Stock). I had the impression that Fingerprint/settings were stored in the system partition, they are not. I had to fork over $15 for an Umidigi engineer to send me restoration files that restored fingerprint. Let me explain how to avoid that, and backup everything and avoid forking over $15!

This section assumes you have not installed TWRP and haven't disable encryption yet. This section of instructions will send phone back to factory defaults!
1. Install TWRP/boot into twrp
2. TWRP Swipe Format (type yes)
3. Install Disable-Force-Encryption-Treble.zip
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QS8Ey4x5kNtKcosINe43DPopeaKoyxvq
For more in-depth instructions, go see _cab13_'s post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/umidigi-one-max-custom-rom-modding-t3942521
________________________________________________________________________________
4. Reboot again, select reboot recovery.
5. Now for backing up EVERYTHING IMPORTANT. Including fingerprint.
I suggest backing up everything that is checked in these pics.
TWRP backup options to select:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/g2G117VnZ2mDvk2YA
https://photos.app.goo.gl/WjXY1EPxu3jgVpat5
Important Partitions:
Other partitions that are "checked" in the pictures above are for precautionary measures, and really do not change the size of the backup much.
modem, nvram, nvdata (IMEI and wireless data partitions)
boot, system, data (For Android, installed apps, and OS data)
tee (Backs up your entire individual fingerprint encryption/settings). These are individual settings, and cannot be used on other One Max's.
Testing:
*I don't recommend this, unless you really know what you are doing, and are 100% certain you have backed up all needed components.*
To test this, I opened SPflash, clicked on the format tab, and selected "auto format" and "format whole flash".

This rendered my phone useless, and after the format, the phone would no longer power on. To solve this, I loaded the default firmware from the Umidigi site
https://community.umidigi.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=211
Changed the recovery image to the twrp image, and changed the boot partition to a previous magisk image I had made of the boot partition:
SPflash restore https://photos.app.goo.gl/EKamtvkmksx8As5Q7
Clicked Download > Connected the usb cable to OneMax > Plugged into the PC
At this point, SPflash starts loading all the images onto the device. After it finishes, reboot into Android. If you go into settings > system > about phone > Status > IMEI information
The IMEI's will be blank! No worries, if you backed up the partitions I screenshot above, you can boot into TWRP and recover the modem, nvram, nvdata, boot, system, data, & tee partitions. Once recovered, all your data, fingerprints, modem & IMEI data will be restored.
Hope this helps.

Guidace on X3 NFC

Hello ppl,
I have a few questions I would like answers to, I got the Poco X3 NFC recently and I was able to unlock the booloaded properly with the official method (waiting the 7 days), but when I think about the root process is njot entirely clear for me.
Is there a way to root the android device without installing the custom ROM?? os is that a must?
I heard some Bank applications will not run in rooted phones, how usual is this? and is there a way to know which apps come with this resticction?
seems like magiks is a good choice for rooting as it keeps the original boot.img in the device so the rooting checks are not failed. how better is this? than other methods?
I am also wondering if there a process for reviewing the custom ROMs available over the internet? I mean how safe are those in terms of malicious code?
And finally what are the best custom ROMS out there for the x3 NFC that you would recommend in case I go for the ROM flash route.
thanks in advanced for any details
You absolutely don't need a custom ROM to get root -- all you need is an unlocked bootloader, which apparently you already have, plus a custom recovery like TWRP or OrangeFox to be able to flash Magisk. Evrything else, IMMV...
Thx pnin ill check deeper in to magisk then
I have another question.. in order to backup my current stock phone's partitions do I have to flash TWRP first? or can I get the backup done some other way?
It's possible there's a way to do this with ADB ("platform tools") and a computer that I don't know about -- otherwise you absolutely have to flash TWRP/OrangeFox first...
I am on Indonesian stock rom. And removed these apps via debloat in magisk module. I think its quite enough. You dont need custom rom. Magisk can hide root. So no worries.

I'm a De-bloater user myself -- but I wouldn't risk anything without a working custom recovery. Things tend to get pretty hairy as it is...

yeah seems like RCS is very important... I have reinstalled it.
Hey thanks for all answers, so I manged to get mine rooted, the TWRP works but is not persistent, meaning you cant flash it, but can boot it, so I booted and installed magisk with it, I now have rooted x3 NFC, and passing the safety net scans all green.. the only thing is I debloat some apps like mi video and other mi-services.. but after some time they re-appeared... any advises on getting rid of them permanently?

I found it, adb pull and the partition name, I took a 100gb image though so Is not easy to tamper with as it is too big, none the less I managed to complete the whole rooting process properly so I guess I can try again to backit up as it is.. but I can boot in to TWRP so I guess is not enirely needed.
