Powergenie - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am the latest idiot that got a P40 Pro and wants to use google stuff.
I had problems with apps going to sleep and not working any more (ACR, daily cloud backup, even WhatsApp) so I removed powergenie with command adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.huawei.powergenie.
Apps are now running but I don't have any power stats for software in setting - battery.
Is it related to powergenie or other stuff I did during setup?
Is the normal android power management still works or all apps are now running until force manual close ?
Thank you!

I just enable manual launch on the apps I need notifications from and that does the job. Why do u remove power genie?
Sent from my ELS-NX9 using Tapatalk

Even with manual launch, WhatsApp was going to sleep, and the desktop version - web.whatsapp stopped working due to lack of connection with phone.
Is there a way to edit the whitelist of powergenie?

I have never had that issue with whatsapp with any of my Huawei phones including p40. Are u running in power saving mode or something maybe?
Sent from my ELS-NX9 using Tapatalk

Hmmm...
I will restore powergenie and try again, I had problems with that app even with my old phone P20 Pro, Titanium backup and Call Recorder ACR stopped running after a few days if I didn't open the app.
Edit: The second I restored powergenie, battery usage for software started working even with history for apps (the data is still stored somewhere)

If u set to manual launch and allow to run in background, that should do the trick. Make sure u aren't running any sort of power saving mode as well .

I've got used to Huawei and aggressive power management, the first thing I do is set it to manual for mail and other apps that I want to run and receive notification fast, I even pin some apps.
thank for the fast reply!

so here we go .. everything is here .. from whitelisting in doze, disabling powergenie, pinning open apps, battery saving, etc etc .... and after all that, skype lite still drops out at random times and does not receive push notifications ...

I have a call recorder app and that thing keeps getting terminated even though it's in the protected app list.
Any solution?
Thanks!
It could be that the call recorder app you installed is not support for use with either the current version of android installed on your device, or it's just not compatible with your device entirely.

Try using another call recorder. The current call recorder you are using probably isn't compatible with the Honor 6X.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having the same issue. Even if I lock a program in recent apps, it will still close at some point. I have to reopen my podcast app and pdf reader on a daily basis (sometimes multiple times) And I have battery optimization off.

Go to settings -> Battery -> Close apps after screen lock and untick the apps you dont want the OS to close. I have seen apps running in the background for days, sometimes I even forget that the app was in background until I open it for something.
Yes, I've already done this too. (Sorry for not mentioning it.) It's weird though, it seems like it only keeps the last 3 or 4 recent apps max after a certain period of time. I like this phone but this is one is starting to bug me a lot.
Anyway, Pocket Casts, ezPDF Reader, TuneIn Radio Pro and Music Folder Player all are identified as power intensive and get killed, even if locked and unselected from lock screen close or the power intensive apps screen. I have all power saving options turned off as I rarely get below 70%.
Note: I've been poking around some more and ended up in app settings and in the Advanced/Special Access, it looks there is a "Exempt from battery optimization" section. I'm going to put my reader and music apps in and see what happens.

Background Services being killed in EMUI 5.0

I know this is a common problem, but there are so many discussions about different bugs and builds and so much misinformation, i had to start a new discussion. I'm using EMUI 5.0 Android 7.0 b389.
EMUI kills power consuming background apps by default after about 10 minutes. Doesnt matter if the screen is locked or not.
The setting 'Close excessively power-intensive apps' does nothing, it makes absolutely no difference. 'Power-intensive app history' and 'History of closed apps' are empty. But when I use the tool 'Battery -> Optimize' it still shows: 'x power consuming background apps closed', and the services gets killed. I suspect EMUI performs this optimization by default from time to time.
Could somebody with a similar behaviour try the Optimze feature and see, if you can replicate the results? I've tried every possible setting and by now I'm pretty sure, this is a bug.
Second question: Who solved a similar problem by rooting the device and either:
a) Putting the service (for me it is Whatsapp) in the system app folder
b) Disabling the Phone Manager. Here im wondering, if there are negative consequences doing this. Like settings disappearing (e.g in the Battery menu) or faulty RAM management or whatever.
Nobody has Problems with notifications or background processes anymore on EMUI 5.0? A response if everything works fine, like Whatsapp notifications, would be great too. Maybe I have a faulty device.

It's turned off, but the app is killed even when the screen stays on, so thats not the problem. Whatsapp is installed fresh. I even did a factory reset and just installed Whatsapp, but the problem remains.
Would you mind trying something for me, to go under:
settings -> battery -> optimize
And see if it says something like "1 power consuming background app closed.
If it doesnt say that, then you should see a green checkmark.
Also is your whatsapp power consumption high? Mine is at 28 mAh right now for the last hour, and EMUI seems to decide, thats too much.

Thanks for trying that. That means, your phone has also recognized these background apps as power-consuming. But the difference ist, thats what happens to my phone every 10 minutes. Maybe my device is faulty for real.
Ive tried every possible setting, factory resets and new installations. Ive even disabled Power Genie and Phone Manager over adb. Nothing works. Man, this just sucks.

Notifications fixed?

Hi,
I had an Honor Note 8 and notifications any came through if apps were open in app memory, or if they had a widget.
Adding them to a whitelist/ignoring battery optimisations did not work and notifications were blocked and only came through when you opened up the apps.
Is this fixed in the Honor Note 10?
Could any users please test by closing all open apps from app memory and seeing if notifications come through for the following apps:
eBay
Etsy
Amazon seller app
Google Hangouts
WhatsApp
Facebook messenger
This is the only thing holding me back from buying this phone. It doesn't look like a Global version will ever be released and I need to know if the Chinese ROM still kills notifications.
Thank you
Hi buddy
I have noticed when my screen is off for a bit then when I open WhatsApp loads of notifications come through.

Even with those option it does not work on note 8. We had to remove an APK called powergenie from the system to stop it from killing app even if those app are whitelisted.
Huawei power management is too aggressive.

One year I used Note 8 with Nougat and no problem with Power Management! Upon upgrading to Oreo system it automatically shuts down applications in the background, and it also does Note 10 ... ?
Phonemanager was the problem here on the Note 8. When i disabled that everyting worked great.
There are 2 settings that will totally minimize this problem (even Galaxy note 8 and iphones of my brothers are having this problem too)
but if you follow these 2 steps you will definitely minimize them as much as other phones
1. Settings/Battery/App Launch and set individual aps you like to get the notification to Manage manually
- turn all the 3 options on here (running in background , startups , and can be run by other apps) this will stop your phone from killing these specific apps from running in background
The second reason you don't get your notifications is because when your screen is off the Wifi will be disconnected first and then for a certain period of time , the system will also turn off your mobile data to save the battery as well. This means even if you have those apps running in background , you still won't get the notification because there's no internet connection....
So step 2 - go to Settings/Battery/ then look at the top right corner for the "gear" icon ,click ---- > Keep mobile data on <----- turn on option
(if you don't have mobile data plan and only rely on your wifi connection, well, you need to turn on keep your w-lan on instead )
Have fun and cheers

Thanks, but I did all of this on the Note 8 (when I had one) and it did nothing. All of my notifications were blocked. The only way to fix it was to remove the awful PHONE MANAGER app via the ABD removal method.
If the Note 10 is going to be the same, I'll have to pass. I just want a phone that'll work properly out of the box.
No problem with WhatsApp, messenger eBay and Facebook so far, everything comes straight thru.
I did however observe sligh delay with Gmail.
Even with Gmail widget active in the background emails come at least one minute later after sending from another device.

I am using the Honor Mediapad X2 and having the same notifications issue, please note that there exists a HIDDEN WHITE LIST within Phone Manager where certain apps like Whatsapp are white listed and allow notifications to come through whereas other apps such as Hangouts and email clients are not. Having said this, do not use Whatsapp as a test to determine whether the Note 10 has the same issue or not. I do not know whether the Note 10's white list now includes apps such as Hangouts as it is a newer device and so it may be more up to date.
For your test, try an unpopular app which uses standard GCM protocol, kill the app, put the device into DEEP SLEEP (screen off, etc) and only then see if the device wakes up and notifications come through, they should.
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!
The problems that i had on the Honor 8 are not on the Honor 10. I get all notifications with no problems. Just set the apps in manual mode and select all 3 options in phonemanager -> startup apps.

Hi
I am sorry to disappoint you. On the Huawei Honor note 10 (EMUI 8.2.0 build 132) you won't receive notifications if the application is closed (not running in the background nor in the foreground), with one exception that I have found so far: WhatsApp.
All the settings you can modify only affect the application WHILE IT'S RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND, that is, the app will keep running if the background and won't be killed if you disabled battery optimization for the specific app and changed the App Launch setting to "Manage Manually" with all 3 options enabled. However, if the application was closed by you or never launched after restarting the phone, you won't receive notifications even with disabled battery optimization and power management.
I am so frustrated, I don't even get reminder notifications from Google Keep notes app. The only workaround is to manually open all the apps you wish to get notification from when you power up the phone.
If anyone has a better workaround or has a different behavior than what I described, please advise!
Cheers,
David

Hi,
Unfortunately I believe this is per design and not a bug (Huawei strict battery saving policy.
The only way to guarantee notifications is to open the app you wish to get notifications from and keep it always running in the background.
Read the article below, it explains down to the bit level why notifications don't work on Huawei phones:
Damn I cannot post outside links because I am a new user. So Instead, search Google for this:

Notifications problems...

Hi guys,
I don't know if it's Oreo or the Nubia X, but a lot of apps don't show me notifications : Messenger, Snapchat, Candy Crush, TypeMail...
My clock app doesn't ring, and I have a message when I open it after (app forced close).
All those apps has been manually optimised in the battery settings.
An idea ?
I have problems with that too. And my apps always fall asleep, even my phone app, which means when people call me, I don't get the phone calls unless I turn on my phone and suddenly my missed calls and messages show up.
For my WhatsApp, Gmail and Yahoo Mail, even worse. I literally have to open those apps to check if I got new messages or emails.
Go to app info/permission/notifications and enable one by one all notifications you need.

Same thing happens to me. Authorized all the notifications, even set them to urgent. Still no luck
it's not enough guys. You have to go in apps info, permission managment and also power management and give permission to everything.
Go also in accessibility /downloaded services and activate the launcher to ON.
At the end, as for mine, all notifications will work.
Hello,
I have the same issue I rooted my phone its v2.19. Notifications work for 10 mints if I have the app running in the background, apps like gmail and YouTube crash after sometime of use.
I allowed all notifications and permissions and power management, it seems like its only the apps that rely on google play services.
I am not sure if this is a common issue...
I have noticed that some notifications will not come through unless wifi is connected, but after some time of having the screen off, notifications stop working. My email notifications will not come through or show on my lockscreen unless my wifi connection is active, regardless of whether or not my data is turned on.

What apps aren't giving you notifications because some apps like snap chat you have to leave the app open and lock it in task manager

In my case, all of them. WhatsApp, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, even regular messaging app.
Once my phone goes to sleep, all the apps go to sleep as well

Mate 30 pro messenger push notifications?

Hi, just bought a mate 30 pro a few days ago without google services. I side loaded all the apps I needed and everything was working great until I realised I wasn't getting my facebook messenger notifications. If the app is open they come through but when I close the app it's like it goes to sleep after about 5 mins. I made messenger my default sms app to see if that would help and all my texts worked fine but my facebook messages just won't work.
I have all my notifications on, app launch set to manual to allow auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. I even allowed all permissions but didn't make a difference. I have performance mode on and have selected stay connected when device sleeps.
Has anyone else had any problems like this or know how to fix it? I've done a factory reset and been through every option I could think of. I love the mate 30 pro but probably going to have to get rid of it if i can't fix this problem.

Go to notification settings and turn on sounds and "on top" option. All notifications works well for me - asian version of mate 30 pro.
Same thing happened to me. What i did was reset phone update to the firmware and after that it went back to normal. For some reason it stopped working after i used the app phone clone tranffering old apps from my old mate 10. Hope it helps...
Same with me on my Mate 30 Pro 5G chuna version
Manage launch already set manuall and auto launch, secondary launch and keep running background all is ON..but same no notif
Yes..same in here too..mate 30 pro 5G china
All launch manually,it means run background, auto start always on..but still no luck..after 5 mins idle..no notif.
But my fren have it with global rom,and it work normally
No lock apps
I wonder if the reasons behind this problem are also the reason behind 'alarms' not going off sometimes. For example, I have an app called 'Alarm Clock Radio', and it seems like it needs to be the 'front' app for the alarm to remain set overnight? It seems to work just fine if I 'test' it by setting alarms in the near future, but it rarely lasts overnight. This app adds a notification when it has an alarm set, but that is sometimes not there and that seems to be coincident with the alarm not working...
oh, and also Accubattery, that is supposed to alert you when the charge gets to a certain level, but sometimes doesn't....

I made the changes to the 'Battery optimisation', so that the apps that I want to run long term, for whatever reason, aren't 'killed'...ie set to "Don't allow - May drain your battery more quickly"; but they still don't last until the next morning. I would have thought that apps like 'Alarm clock radio' would set some kind of system alarm that would launch the radio app, rather than have to have the app running continuously.
I ran the app Push Notification Tester and it comes back with error after 4 tests. Not registered for push notifications. It doesn’t matter if you change settings or not you don’t receive push notifications. Weird because I get normal SMS and WhatsApp just fine!

I think it has to do with the Mate 30 Pro not being registered with google and because so many apps as made for the google services, you can’t get Push Notifications to work 100%
All apps that reply on play service to send push notifications wont work you cant pass all the test.

Indeed. My question is do all apps on Google Android require GMS to send Push Notifications?
I ask because I know that not only Google run the notification services, but do they all use the GMSes on Google Android phones, or can phones have multiple on-device services to consolidate communications with cloud-based push notification services?
Can, eg, a Pixel phone, also install Huawei Managed Services?

Very good question. I have been looking into it but so far I thinks that’s why Huawei is trying to get all the apps on there system! (HMS)

Apps like the whatsapp, messenger, viber etc still work. Apps that work perfectly before you install the GMS will receive push notifications. Because they dont rely on the play service.

Exactly, I realised after installing GMS on Mate 30 Pro that push notification on Gmail, Outlook and most apps are not working. Instant messaging, social media and messenger are working just okay with or without GMS.
I just installed GMS on my mate30 pro, everything works well, just push notification is not working.
I ran the tester and there is a error of registration error of push notification.
How to fix this?
