Xperia 55.1.A.8.1 - Sony Xperia 1 Guides, News, & Discussion

hello, someone has already had the opportunity to test this version or has information on this firmware? The build number suggests a fairly significant jump.

It's only a small update, 85.6MB if I remember correctly, so I'm assuming it's just a security update.
I'm a light user and the only real issue I have with the phone is the fingerprint scanner; that still seems to be the same to me.

Why always useles threads like this ?
Its only security patch update with minor fixes but Sony never post that !!
Edit:
Fw 8.1 feels way more faster en snappier ?
All is damn fast and no issues ?

When the hell can we expect official Marshmallow ?

Am I the only one frustrated ?
I really want and need the performance boost of 6.0 to enjoy fast app lauch and app switching faster browsing etc..
There is a lot of bull **** talk about this beta, let be clear I want no beta cause it is a pain in the ass
to reinstall your phone too many times, and going from beta to official version might is hard too.
From what I have seen in youtube videos Marshmallow seem to work good ?
so why the hell let us wait more ? why endure this pain and suffering more then they need.
There is people who suffer everyday daily for frustrating performance problems of Mate 7.
Huawei released the Beta to public on purpose cause they want to use us all as lab rats.
Push out the official version now, I will not install any beta software.
This is is important cause if Marshmallow get an satisfying performance increase, then
I might skip to buy Mate 8.
Mate 8 was nice but it has some flaws... The black borders around the screen..bugs me a lot..
for instance..much different to the press renders where the screen did go from edge to edge.
what version of lollipop are you on?

I've emailed Huawei about this, seeing as the 'official' versions has been released in Egypt and other parts of Africa.
Long story short, they only said that they are still in the testing phase and cannot give any form of feedback as of this moment.
Cool that they replied and said they are at least testing.
My question in my first post remains. Reading all he'll and problems people seem to have with the installation of marshmallow I am happy I did resist the temptation to install the marshmallow beta.
However it seem the official must be near?
My wisdom is to those who are in the beta program . Does huawei respond to any feedback of bugs or at all or is it a dead projekt? Seem meaningless to have a beta program if they are not working om it..
The beta has dragged out on time a lot and I honestly doubt they will improve much more then the beta.

Huawei is notorious for severely delaying updates, sadly. I wouldn't be surprised if we only see the update in the second half of this year.
To be honest I'm considering getting rid of my Huawei and picking up the Nexus 6P. The only reason I bought the Mate 7 in the first place was because of the fingerprint scanner, and the 6P has it whilst also being pure Android, which is neat. Not knowing that custom ROMs are virtually impossible with this phone has given me severe buyer's remorse.
it is now march where the hell is our marshmallow ? common Huawei..you really dig your reputation grave deeper and deeper
You have already done 95% of the work why not finish the last 5% this is frustrating!!!
I feel that the project is dead... I hope to be wrong

I think the team responsible have their hands full with some higher priority device so they left this 95% beta unfinished, this update is big and it is said to give the same performance boost as the lollipop did.
Millions people are affected.. I am not sure they realize that. And they are too much of ***** to release their update on Ota since they do not want to be responsible

Old Android (4.2/4.4) unsafe?

Hi there,
I know Ive asked this question before, and got some good help, though the thread was a much too long read so here a shorter version hoping to get more responses
Is it safe to use an old Android version? And if it isnt, is it safer to install Gapps so I can get some Google updates (for instance Stagefright fix)?
This tut says to keep 4.2 on your device which makes me wonder what to do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/security/tuto-how-to-secure-phone-t2960077
FYI I have a HTC Desire Z (there are some 5.x alfas), Sony Xperia T (pain in the ### to update so prefer not to update to newer Android with the risk of not being able to use my phone for some days if it needs some fixing) and a Gigaset 4.2 tablet.
Thanks a lot.

Safe..
Safe as in as safe as it gets? Dont the Android updates do nothing at the security front?
I think that the object behind the linked post is not the same as what most people consider "secure". I only looked at it briefly but I think the guide you list is more for "how to make sure that the Big Brother cannot find you". The security that newer versions of Android fix are things like exploits that malware can use to steal your info.
If you're worried about the "malware" type of security, then AFAIK the latest version of Android for your device is the best choice. If you're trying to keep absolutely anyone from tracking you... I guess you can follow that guide... but that's really outside of my area of expertise.
in my view older versions of Android are not sure, because of uncorrected publicized flaws on older android vertions.
for the rest it's up to you.
KitKat was released about the same time as Windows XP end of support. Do you think it would be safe running XP right now? Many would not.
Firefox's ssl/tls is also FAR superior to stock/webview browsers, especially on KitKat and earlier.
Even in the new androids (5.0.0 and above) have vulnerabilities in proprietary libs.
All who know about the vulnerabilities, just silent.

Are there any Android 6.0 roms in active development?

I switched from Cyanogenmod 13.0 to LineageOS 14.1 when CM died in late December. Was very excited about Nougat at first, but there are a lot of bugs with mobile data, bluetooth, etc. After a couple months of flashing nightly builds hoping for things to get better, I gave up and went back to the last build of CM13 and all the bugs have disappeared and my battery life improved as well. Plus I can use Xposed which is nice.
Only problem is CM13 will never be updated so I'm stuck on December 2016 security patch level. Thus I am steadily getting more outdated. With no official Nougat ever coming to the G3, it makes me wonder if the bugs in LOS14.1 will ever be fixed since there will never be an official source to base it on. I know there are other Nougat-based roms out there but I imagine they must suffer from the same bugs as LineageOS.
I don't care about new features or anything, I just would like to have security updates because it seems like a bad idea not to.
Is this what I'm looking for? https://forum.xda-developers.com/20...nt/rom-lineageos-13-0-moto-g-3rd-gen-t3530402
Consider this - most folks with Moto G3 are on stock M. With no security updates.
With CM13 you say you are on Dec '16. That's a year and a half better than stock.
Maybe you aren't really so bad off...
Have you ever really felt any real harm having "outdated" security patch? I'm kin to hear exact cases when your phone needs a new security patch. Or maybe you are installing experimental software from deep web? There are a lot of users with devices with Android 5.0.2 or 5.1 that haven't even heard about security patches, and they feel themselves very comfortable using their daily package of normal and verified software. So I don't see any point to look for a developing MM 6.0.1 ROM, as it is already developed and bugless.

But now I'm settled for tesla rom......its a great rom and havent found any bugs...... Its the fastest rom among N roms....... I'm using it with optimus kernel and battery backup is also very good......

A January 2017 security patch for the stock 6.0 XT1540 just came out just a few weeks ago.

The misconception here is that those "security updates" are actually of any real world use... they are not. There are no real security exploits of any real significance to modern Android devices, all of these horrible vulnerabilities like Quadrooter, Certi-gate, Stagefright, FakeID, Towelroot, and Dirty Cow are of not really problems as outside of a controlled lab environment, there are no working exploits of any of them.
Security updates by themselves are a marketing ploy that sounds good, unless your devices is 3 or 4 years old (in which case you should just be replacing it anyway since there are no security updates).
A lot of people will disagree with me, but all these security updates are just media hype and company propaganda, there is no real worry about them because of all the other stuff we have in Android, like app sandboxing, DMverity, SElinux, and other mechanisms that even if an exploit does get past one things it has to deal with the others.
I am not an naive and I know what I am talking about, I have worked in the telecommunications and networking industry for over 25 years and deal with security in both telecom and IT daily. You have far more important things to worry about than security updates for your Android phone, unless you live on pirate apps and porn.

Thanks guys. No, I haven't felt "unsafe" from not being totally updated, but if you were unsafe would you even know it? Isn't that part of the problem? At any rate, I suppose the real danger isn't my phone's OS but rather my online accounts, where my personal information is stored on the servers of who knows how many companies.
Between ad blocking and just careful habits and knowledge, I'm guessing I'm also much safer than the average smartphone user.
I will keep rolling with cm13 unless/until Alberto hammers out the Bluetooth bugs in Lineage. Nougat is cool but it's not worth my headphones disconnecting multiple times per day.
Maybe this reply is off topic, but as far as my xt1550 is considered, all bugs related to data and Bluetooth have been fixed.
Regarding the "staying updated" thing, maybe you will have to jump to Nougat one day or the other if you want to increase the life of the phone.

December security patch - Fixed stuff!

December security patch is out and it had fixed everything I was having a problem with. So far I've noticed:
-VoLTE and VoWiFi now working
-much better signal strength (probably using the right available bands)
-Swype keyboard now correctly identifying words (although this normally gets words over time until a restart... We shall see)
-screen responsiveness is MUCH improved.
-Generally overall much "snappier". This is not a placebo, it it's for sure MUCH quicker.
I hope this update helps everyone one else out as much as it has me.

this update fix our problem after factory reset or without it ???
Without, updated... Rebooted and all was right in phone world. Don't know if the goofball happy dance in my truck helped or not. ? Let us know if it worked out for you.
What model did this work for? Ta-1045 got the update earlier, but it didn't fix VoLTE for me when I had it in October. Is this a separate maintenance release?
Security doesn't Fix Android issues.

If you think that's smooth, then you haven't seen nothing yet... (Android Q Beta 6)

This right here. I had the sound issue on P where the sound would randomly switch from clear to bassy/muffled ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/semi-perm-fix-patch-random-sound-change-t3919626 ) , so I said enough since it's going to be almost a year, and Google still can't figure out how to fix it (and probably won't since Q is so close to release), so I went to QB6. P was 99.9% perfect for me. Just the sound issue I mentioned. It was buttery smooth, and worked flawlessly. Well being on QB6 for a full day, and using the phone for well over 12 hours, I can say QB6 makes P feel like Android version 5 or lower. Not only does it work flawlessly, but it's even smoother, better battery, better looks, and just overall a better OS. I feel like I just got a new phone.
Its loads better, sleep mode is better, although it takes a bit longer for the phone to fully wake up, and battery is excellent.
Guys, 2 days after the latest August security update my device can't connect to mobile internet. I have already declared it as connectivity interruption issue to my provider, but I was curious to know if someone else is dealing with the same weird problem. I already tried to reset network settings without further success. I could try to factory reset it as a last effort to solve this problem, but somehow I doubt that it will eventually help. Stock device, unmodified.
