Best place to buy replacement parts - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I broke my phone's back glass and I know there are replacements online, but I wanted to know what the best ones you all have seen are. I really want some water resistance (Rain , being able to rinse my phone quickly if I drop it in mud etc)

youre not going to get water resistance back unless you have the equipment to do it yourself

Something that can completely reseal the glass to the frame with absolutely no air bubbles or cracks anywhere in the adhesive.

It's not Gorilla Glass. HTC doesn't use Gorilla Glass *someone here suggested they did for the MT4G, they didn't*
Well Iguess its not glass, either way cab I still do manufacture warranty or is it only for software

That's some pretty hard carpet you got there. Man up! You dropped it on the floor.

No if I dropped it on the floor I would of said that, no point in lieing. I have no scratches just a straight line on the the screen
First, i would install some under padding at your place. Second, do you have the $5/mo insurance on the phone? That will help you. I don't know what to say otherwise but I'm truly baffled on how dropping it on carpet busted your phone. Did it bounce off a tall stairwell first "Brady Bunch" style?
did you get the protection plan with the phone. it's 5.99 a month? with that plan you can get a new one no matter what... without it your SOL
It fell from out my pocket while i was siting on my computer chair. I was naturly pissed the fu#% off seeing how it was not that high I have the insurance but it will cost 130 just to replace a cracked screen.. Was wondering if there was a chapter method
Suggestion for you, sine you have 14 days to add insurance do so and report a claim. manufacture warranty will not cover drops.

I know it's not gorilla glass but geez, a drop to the carpet = cracked screen?
How high of a drop? How hard was the carpet?
Wow...that sucks...on carpet none the less. Did you roll over it with your chair?
The reason I ask, is the very day I got it and was at home that evening, I had it on the bar in our kitchen because my daughters were looking at it...they got to messing around and my oldest daughter pushed our youngest. when she fell off the bar stool, she flung her arm and hit my phone off. It flew across the kitchen, bounced off the cabinet door and fell screen down on the ceramic tile floor. The battery door flew off and I completely expected to be making a post like yours for sure...my daughter picked it up, put the battery cover back on and put the phone back on the bar face down. As I was in the middle of cutting chicken, it took me about 5 minutes before I could go look...nothing at all, the phone is in perfect shape, no evidence of a fall at all.
I guess all it takes is one well angled drop to either be the end or the saving grace for any glass screen
Sorry to hear about the drop. Asurion is the 3rd party insurance and it's $4.79/mo on my bill, plus a $150 deductible for physically damaged phones. They'll ship it out to you next day usually.
You can also go back to the Tmo store and plea with them to exchange it. Maybe they can say that they dropped it or something like that. Good luck!

It's Gorilla Carpet! It probably hit where the most weight of the phone had the most impact and made it most vulnerable.

Actually I'm suspicious that your phone's screen had a fracture in it when you got it. No matter what kind of glass it is, it shouldn't have cracked so eaily. That would be my argument to the retention department when I wholeheartedly threaten to cancel subscription for making me pay for a phone that obviously had a flawed screen out of the box. Be firm, honest and be respectful. You just might get a replacement.
Are you sure it is a crack? Are you sure it wasn't there when you got it? I'm not even sure it is possible to crack glass from that height onto carpet without some sort of preexisting defect...

Screw honest, if the fall on Carpet did no exterior damage, go in there tell em there is a crack in the screen. Especially if your in your 14 days and you want a new one.
Having absolutely NO exterior damage might allow you to play innocent and ask for an exchange at the store. If that doesn't work, call retention.

[Q] Cracked back glass panel

Hello everyone,
I sat my phone on my bed and it slid off and landed on a plate. The back glass panel is cracked all over and has two spots of likely impact.
Luckily the camera, flash and front screen is perfectly fine so I'm hoping the cost to replace the single sheet of glass is low.
I know this is a recently released device but I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before and how much Sony charged to repair it out of warranty either on this model or a previous Z.

You are probably better off doing it yourself or give it to a local shop as manufacturers generally have a higher turn around time. I believe I saw a back glass for $30-40, though not sure if it was of same standards.
You can buy the back glass from places like aliexpress (china) from £10-20 and I think they are on ebay too.
There are videos explaining how to replace them (for z2, but should be same for z3)
Waterproofing is probably not gauranteed.

Really sorry to hear/see that, mate. From what I know - replacing it would be ridiculously simple - IF you can get a replacement. Might be worth to look in popular webstores selling parts. Also, try ifixit.com.

You're right, it does look very simple to fix. The only issue I'd have with doing it myself would be are the parts they (witrigs.com) supply any good/official and would it not be water-resistant anymore.
I believe you need to use heat (for glue) to seperate the back glass. If you are worried just go to a local repair store. If you give it to Sony then you have time wasted in back and forth shipping and then processing. If you can live without your phone for a few weeks ship it to Sony. If you are lucky and have a Sony repair center nearby that would be better.

As @abhinav.tella suggested - heat does the trick.
I replaced battery in my Xperia Z with a hair dryer, a small suction pad I normally use to hang my towel and some glue that double acts as a sealant.
You simply heat the device up, and then use the suction pad to lift the glass - the glue should have melted by now - just be extra careful not to apply pressure on the cracked parts. Then scrape off the leftover glue from corners, when it cools down apply new one and put the glass panel inside - heat again, push it firmly and wait until it cools down again. ( some kits include glue that doesn't need to be heated up )
You can get all those for literally 20-30$. I'm sure you realize that, but it might be worth to mention that this will probably void your warranty.

S7 The back glass is poorly adhered and is lifting on one side. Do i have a fix?

Hey everyone.
I purchased my phone through duty free, unlocked so after checking with local Samsung repair center they told me my warranty is not applicable in the country i live in, because i purchased the phone in duty free. This is not an official Samsung repair center, just a random one authorized by Samsung btw.
Either way, the issue is that the back glass is slightly lifting on one side/ corner. The top right corner (Next to the heart rate sensor) is slightly unstuck from the body, and it creates a tiny little gap, which ends up running down the side of the phone a little.
I have tried finding a solution and no luck. What i want to know is, if i take a heat gun, and give the back glass a blast under the heat gun in order to warm up the glue, and then apply some pressure evenly across the back glass, will that do the trick? Is it even safe to do so ?
Thanks for the help and if necessary i can try submit some pictures.
It should be safe to do as long as you don't heat it up too much as to cause the internals of the phone to get over-stressed. I would power down your phone and make sure it is cooled before starting the process. You don't want it turned on and then your phone decide that it wants to update 20 apps and cause it to heat up any more than it already is.
Also, be gentle with applying pressure to the glass, if you happened to have dropped it and warped the frame that would explain why the glass is lifting up, and if you press too hard it may break it. Just be careful and you should be fine. It's not a guaranteed fix but it's a safe method to try out.
If you need help on using the heat gun just look online for videos of repairing phone screens, plenty of them use heat guns to get the adhesive loosened up and almost always state what temperature to set it to. I feel like it was around 700°F (370°C) last I looked, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I will try give it a shot over the weekend. The phone is in perfect conditions and has never been dropped. In fact when i press down on the glass, it kinda slots back into place, but then sticks back out, so i'm assuming its un-even adhesive or whatever the case is with it. In reality its such an un-noticeable issue, but you know how it is... once you know its there, that's the only thing you notice
I wonder if anyone else had this issue because i found a YouTuber who actually also had his back glass un-stick from the body
Sorry to hear about your luck. I would think it goes without saying, but it will probably no longer be waterproof.

From my experience doing so does not work. You need to replace the adhesive which is easy to do, what is more difficult is sourcing an OEM one

Glass back is too fragile.

The easy solution should be the back cover in plastic. But chinese makers are not making this. No idea why not. So we have to find solution our selves. Do you have a 3d printer? Or are you expert at doing craft projects? Can you make plastic back covers for those of us who want one?
Edit:
(anybody who wants to know - I made a cover with a plastic $1 folder. The plastic is soft but its tough stuff. Not easily punctured. Phone feels great on the hand and it feels slimmer. I still have to add some modifications to make it sturdier and make sure that it can withstand a fall without damaging the battery. No idea how to do that. I'll figure it out. The plastic works fine as a shock absorber but if something were to hit the battery area directly then that might transfer some force on the battery. So I'll have to find some way to make that area of the cover slightly more rigid. or place a shock absorbent material directly on top of the battery. Gotta find the right material that doesn't insulate the heat in.)
I'd buy a 3d printed plastic back cover if anyone made it available.

They are $10. But we don't want the glass back. :S I can put a vinyl wrap on it and manage the slippery surface. But I also know how ridiculously fragile it is. It also shatters and you get glass particles everywhere. So its not usable. I have thought about reinforcing the glass back with some sort of specialized tape like gorilla tape or glass filament tape or tent repair tape. You could use it that way. The glass would still be fragile. It'll crack under the circumstances it would have cracked otherwise. Basically the glass is very low quality. Motorola is likely lying if they say its some sort gorilla glass or something.

Yeah, I would expect custom 3d print to cost more than the mass produced Chinese replacements.
It's worth it. Glass backs are insane imo. It pushes design over function much too far. I don't need to show off with a my phone. Rather have a phone that isn't so fragile.

You know there are owners of this phone who don't like the glass back.
Also, there is a heat factor with the glass back. I removed the glass and using a poorly made plastic cover right now and heat dropped by like 10 degrees. lol. It charges with normal charger at below 30c. With turbo charger it goes up to around 35c. Phone running for hours streaming hulu or something at max may be 37c. What's the temp like with the glass back on? 45c+?

I guess you are saying not enough people demand it so its not a category of product yet.
Temp would be around 5-10c less than glass back the way I have it set up. One of the beneficial aspect I have seen is phone cools down much quicker. It'll have an effect on longevity of the phone but its really not that big of an issue anyway with the higher temps on a glass back. I think the most important factor is the satisfaction of not having that dumb fragile glass back.

To each their own, apparently.
If you're treating your phone respectfully, then the glass back should not be an issue. It is, after all, gorilla-glass, not just ordinary window-glass. If you're treating your phone roughly, then get a case or buy a different non-glass phone.
Right now glass and ceramic is en vogue in phone design. (see the top-end S10+ with its custom ceramic backplate) Particularly because it enables wireless charging without a buildup of static electricity. In a year or two they'll probably be on to a new trend, maybe leather as foldable phones start to mature. I actually miss those leather-backed phones that were around about 5 odd years ago.

You are right. But I'm not looking for top end glass back on my g6. :S TBH even on s10 I would probably want to switch out the glass back. It seems absurd to me that I'm carrying around something so fragile. I would predict if there is a new trend, it'll be some sort of durable material like plastic. When people hear plastic, they think its cheap and reduces the vibe of the device. But there are different types of plastic. Phone companies could do fancy and functional phone body and back covers easily. I have no idea why they don't. They could use tough rubbery material for the body too where you largely won't need a case. But they don't. Some aspects of design isn't evolving at all with phones.
Mine shattered after fall from stairs, but I won't expect any phone to survive this with no damage taken.

N986U Not charging properly, need replacement ASAP!

Hi there, I want to know where I can find a replacement part for the N986U model for the charging port board... I have been trying to search on eBay, Amazon, with no luck... are parts interchangeable? meaning? could I just buy a charging port board from an G986U and use it instead, would this work fine?

You need the exact part for that variant version.
Otherwise you may find it charges fine but has no internet connection. That happen on my 10+.

dang. but I need that special soldering machine eh?
Get the part number off the PCB. It must be the exact same number. The last letter designates the variant version if it's like the 10+'s.

Replace the battery too if it's getting weak. Get the OEM seals too so you can seal it properly. Use anhydrous isopropyl to help free the adhesive strips when disassembling.

Remember to disconnect the battery first if you easily can. Take your time and don't force anything.
Follow ESD protocols if possible; at least have room humidity at 50% or higher and work on a bare wood table. No wool sweaters... cotton is best.
Out of circuit subassemblies are suspectable to ESD damage.

Watch vids on it.
Have the battery level at 30% or less. Disconnect as soon as reasonibly possible during disassembly. Do Not use force more force than is needed. Slow and steady.
Take your time, don't force anything. No rush.
Use only plastic for prying and wedging.
You need a temp controlled hot plate used for things like this or a hot air gun.
You need the right sized drivers, tweezers and picks.
Use a syringe with anhydrous isopropyl alcohol to help break the seal adhesive on the rear and the battery.
You need a OEM rear cover seal or aftermarket equivalent.
Best to raise room humidity to 50%. If you have a ESD mat and wrist strap, use them. Otherwise use a cotton cloth on a bare wood surface. Wear all cotton clothing. The mobo and display are suspectable to ESD damage when out of circuit.
Be careful not to damage the connectors use a suitable pair of tweezers.
Do not over torque the screws; they will strip out ie inch/pounds not foot/pounds.
Reassemble exactly as it was.
Thanks

You're welcome.
Labor rates may not be as bad as you think.
Might get it done for $50-70. It's not near as difficult as some claim it to be if you have the skillset and tools. The 20U is likely similar in construction to the N10+.
After watching my N10+'s battery replaced I learned the tricks and realized it wasn't that hard. I already have most of the tools I need. So next the one I will do myself. I've done a lot of electronic assembly work and have replaced 2 Canon cameras LCD displays including a pro cam... successfully.
The parts you don't want to damage; the mobo, the display (battery sits on top of it, attached with double sided adhesive tape), the camera module as these are expensive parts.
The rear cover is cheap to replace; avoid excessive bending or it will shatter. The ribbon cables and such are cheap but harder perhaps to find.
