I was wondering if anyone has embraced not being reliant non Google services?
I would like to start using an Android device without any Google services on it. I'm assuming google photos will be out of the question, as will maps. So what substitute would you recommend for these two apps as well as backing up WhatsApp? Since WhatsApp currently backups to G drive. Also, are there any solutions for location sharing? I currently share my location via Google maps to family members.
Thanks.

I recently saww an article about huawei obtaining an official location based service. The app will be called HereWe Go. Ot is intended to replace google maps. I guess it will be available in the appgallery.

I believe the article said that it would include navigation and tie into HMS so location based services should be available.

Bump of an old thread...
Google Pay has become part of my life, and has done for the past 5 or 6 years (maybe more). I wouldnt like to live without it. Having said that I'm not sure I could even think about a smaller screen than this...

Does anyone know this?
Trying to mass deploy devices at work and wondering how many devices a single Google Play account could support. I thought there was a max but I'm having trouble finding what that # is.
I'd appreciate the help as I don't want to set up bulk Gmail accounts if I can help it.
It's only two device maximum per with 1 Google Play account.

This isnt true, I have 5 devices on my account for development work, so its at least that but I couldnt give you a actual number
I also want to ask with the same question. Thanks for your help!
A lot. I remember on some AndroidPolice app reviews, the author would post a screenshot of compatible devices in his phone list and there would be like 10 devices on the list.
As far as I know device-unique info isn't checked by Google.
How many times haven't we flashed our various devices, I for one have never encountered any sort out limit.
My guess is, unlimited devices.

Let's see here, I have 16 total active (or Google thinks they are) devices on my account. Though some services don't work on the last six that i have recently activated on the account such as Google Play Music which has a limit of 10 authorized devices (including PCs). But other than that, Google Play Store works and I haven't had any problems with it.
--
Why do I have 16 "active" logins on my account? Well because when I switch ROMs, the account doesn't log out. I just leave it. When the problem comes around when Google limits the total active logins on the Play Store (which I presume will never happen, but you never know) I'm sure Google will add settings (if there aren't already now) to remove unwanted and/or unused devices active on the account.
link to maps 7.0.0 apk, looks really nice with the new UI!

I can´t post links yet, so remove the spaces: htt ps://support .google.com/ gmm/answer /2449492?hl=en
You can type "OK maps" in to the search bar to cache the currently viewed tiles though, so they didn't completely remove the offline maps functionality.

there you go
Dear Mapping community,
The offline maps feature is not included in today’s release of the new Google Maps app (version 7.0) for Android.
We know a lot of you love offline maps, and we've included a special feature hidden in the app that allows you to pre-load an area of the map you need offline simply by going to that area in the app and typing “OK Maps” in the search box (or speaking “OK Maps” into your Android device). That area will then be pre-loaded to your device cache and accessible when you don’t have a connection. Just return to that area of the map, and it will be available to you.

What's up with Google lately taking away features rather than maintaining them or introducing new ones. First Google Talk (Hangout) and now this.
I'm impartial to the new UI design, I guess I need to give it some time to get used to it. However, taking away some of the key features hurts. For example, there is no way now to view an alternate route while already following an existing one...you need to cancel the navigation and go back to the previous screen. WHY? That was #1 best feature in original Google Maps. URGH.
Why not
why not version for android 4.0 ???

Has someone a solution for this problem? When trying to download large games from the play store the app force closes instantly.
Thanks
no issues here after switching to the international rom. maybe thats worth a try, since it has all google apps and services preinstalled

I've mentioned this before.
There is a fix for it but its something to do with permissions and making it a system app otherwise you will get crashes when downloading anything around a gb or more.

Also, you need to give Play Store internal storage permission to download those large games, until I did that I had same issue as you with large game installs appearing to cause the Play Store to crash.

Hello,
Can someone provide assistance as have the Ace which of course is a Chinese verison. Have change and using with English are there any apk to get English themes and colorOS apps installed as these still only show Chinese ? Any other tricks to use this great phone in English?
Cheers
I got mine a few days ago and I've been playing with it. I uninstalled every chinese app I could. I went to apkmirror and downloaded the google play store apk and it works great. I don't use the Oppo store.
There are some issues though. Particularly Google Assistant cannot replace Breeno, ColorOS launcher cannot be replaced, Oppo's messages app cannot be replaced by anything else and for some reason swiping down on any home screen activates chinese search.
first report
I got my phone yesterday. From the CECT shop. Unfortunately I ordered via DHL Express - it cost me 96 euros import sales tax and fee. Very annoying. With Europe Priority Line I would have had no additional costs. CECT Shop could have pointed this out. Of course that's somewhere but who reads all of this ...
About the device: the hardware is great - the software is crap. I hope for an update. The most unpleasant thing for me is that I cannot make the Nova Launcher the standard launcher. I could use it to bend any other problems. I will continue to report ....

Use breeno browser, go to or search for www.apkmirror.com in apk mirror, download google play store. when it downloads, it'll ask you if you want to load the apk. It did not ask me for an oppo ID.
Any Luck?
Hey. basically got the same issues as your self with the Chinese global search when to swipe down, as well as other apps that cant be changed be default. I didn manage to replace the keyboard with swiftkey and it runs great!

If you use adb this can remove the Chinese global search with Google but you must have Google installed first.

Hi all.
I have been using the P40pro for a while now and have used App gallery and Petal search. I am just wondering if anyone has found any better ways to get apps on the device maybe something that auto updates apps as manually isn't that bad. But it is not just overly convenient.

If they where downloaded from App gallery they will auto update or you can set to manual if you prefer. With petal it is a manual job but realistically this allows you to check what the update is actually for an if you want to do it or wait for the next one, so there is a plus side to this.

if its direct download through App gallery it will! im sure in time it will
PhoneClone as a starting point - but I make sure to replace with version from AppGallery if possible (Snapchat + Tinder for example)
AppGallery
PetalSearch
Aptoide
APK Sites which don't appear on Petal
Direct from sites (Facebook and Vanced (Vanced.App) for example)
That's pretty much it unless you're going to get Play Store installed and working.
