"File Transfer" only shows DCIM and Pictures - what did I do? - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

I've done someting, but I don't know what.
When I first got my OP8 and connected a USB lead to my PC, by putting the USBM mode to 'File Transfer', I could see all the folders on the device. I was able to transfer videos and music etc.
When I did it today, all I can see are DCIM and Pictures. So, I've upset something, but I don't know what.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Alan

I turned USB debugging on and it came back. But I didn't have it on before.
Weird
Alan

Does no one have any ideas why this stopped working without USB debugging on?
Alan

It looks like the upgrade to 10.5.2 broke it and 10.5.3 has fixed it.
Alan

There is an option to set default USB connection. When set to MTP it will only show those media folders. Change to file transfer and it should stick.

My MBP pro hates my captivate

So I can't mount storage on my new MBP (17"). I know about the usb debugging mode etc. and I can mount it just fine using a new iMac. When I enable disk mode on my MBP, sometimes the drives show up for a second and then disappear, and sometimes they don't show up at all.
I've tried all the USB ports: only the middle one ever even gives the error, the other two do nothing.
Anyone else have a MBP with this problem? Any suggestions for solutions?
*MBP = mac book pro
Try downloading KIES and see if it shows up on that.
Check Disk Utility, do they show up in there when plugged in and mounted on the phone?
Is Applications-USB Settings set to mass storage? If so, try setting it to "ask on connection"
on macs you need to have usb debugging on.
its in the capp manual on samsung web page
I have no problems with storage mode on my MacBook Pro I7
When you say you know all about debugging mode, does that mean you have it turned on? My mac mini works fine with debugging mode on.

Yeah, I have it turned on. Two important points here:
1. I had no trouble mounting/using/etc the storage until a couple weeks ago.
2. I can mount/use/etc the storage on another mac.
This leads me to believe that the prob is with my machine. For kicks, I made another user account on my machine (to rule out extension problems) and its flaky there too.
I mainly wanted to know if other 17" i7 users were having any trouble. Sounds like they're not.
Strange, no idea what's happening to you, sorry
Sucks when stuff like this happens

[Q] Getting pics from phone to computer

Hi folks, please excuse my ignorance as I am not a regular user of my phone for anything other than calling home and asking my wife if I need to pic up anything from the store before I come home from work ect...
I have some pictures on my phone that I would like to put on my computer so I can print them out. I am using a Samsung Captivate. I am so unfamiliar with most of the terms used here I am not even sure what to look for under a search. Would someone mind helping me please? Thank you in advance and if you happen to have a problem with your air conditioner I can be of help with that in return.
Hi knownot,
you can connect your phone via USB cable to your Computer.
Fortunately, Android devices are considered (by computer) as external hard disks so you can easily browse folders and copy your pictures to your PC.
I apologise for my bad english

It views as an HDD? mine shows up as a camera
normally if you connect your phone to your computer there should be something in the statusbar of your phone like USB-connection. click on that and now you can choose to connect as hdd.
Once you have the phone connected as a drive, on my phone the pictures are in the dcim/camera folder. Find that and copy and paste to your computer.
Detected as camera probably fine too, it should offer an import option.
Alternatively there are apps like dropbox, that if you use them on your phone and on your computer, it will automaticly upload the pictures to your computer whenever your phone connects to your homes wifi.
Or just mail them to yourself, the access the mails from your computer.
You also might type into youtube "samsung captivate usb mount" and You will find a video tutorial.
Or you can use Samsung Kies. It's a program for Windows or Mac to sync your data.

First, use your USB cable to plug your phone into your computer. If you're not sure what the USB cable is, it's the black cord that came with your phone. It's probably plugged into your phone charger; unplug the cord from the charger and use that to plug the phone into the computer.
Then, on your phone, open the notifications menu at the top of the screen by swiping down. Click the button that says "USB connected" (or something similar) and choose the option that says "USB storage" (or something similar). Then your computer should say "Installing driver software" and then "Your device is ready to use."
An "Autoplay" window will probably pop up. You can choose "open folder to view files." Double click on the "DCIM" folder, double click on a folder inside there (it will probably be "Camera" or something), and you should see all of your pictures.
Google can be your friend, well for atleast the first 15 mins..
Often you have to select USB storage or something like that in order to enable your phone as a hd. that will mess with your apps when it is connected because it mounts the SD card etc on your PC, so it is usually not enabled by default.
Pull down the notifications bar, click on the USB connected link, select the appropriate action.
Enjoy.
Thanks for the tips folks. I am sure with your help I will finally figure this out. I had already tried sending my self an e-mail but I never got it. Tried connecting to computer with the cord and the notifications bar will not pull down. It just shows the connection thingy on the screen but I cant do anything with the phone while it is connected. Thanks again for your help. Its very much appreciated.
if it's not too many photos I usually just email them to myself and open it up on my computer
I did a google search and found this post showing step by step what to do as I don't have a captivate and each phone can differ.

Thanks for the input. Have tried your suggestions and have come to the conclusion there is something out of whack with the phone. Going by AT&T tomorrow to see about it. Thanks again!

an alternative method is;
be sure that your photos are stored in SD card.
remove your SD card and connect it to your laptop's SD card reader (you should have a micro SD - SD adaptor).
copy them to your laptop.
I hope it helps.

Nexus 5 with Android 6, can't access phone contents on Win 7 pc

Hi,
I recently installed the OTA Android 6 update.
All seems fine, except today I wanted to copy some of my photos off the
phone and put them onto my PC. But when I connect the phone to the pc
all it shows is the icon of the Nexus 5 but does not show any folders nor files!
Does anyone know if there is a hidden setting somewhere that I have to
enable or is there something else I need to do?
BTW, I have my phone unlocked (not rooted) when I connected the phone so it is unlocked
while connected to the PC via the USB cable.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ok after a lot of googling I have managed to find out how to do it, see below.
Swipe down the top notifications window on your Nexus, the device must be plugged into the computer, there should be a persistent notification banner showing for USB Mode. Mine stated "USB for charging", touch for more options.
So I touched it an it then gave me the following options:
Use USB for
(o) Charging only
( ) Transfer files (MTP)
( ) Transfer photos (PTP)
( ) MIDI
So I selected "Transfer files (MTP) and it then showed up in Windows
I hope this helps out others who are having a similar problem.
It just seems strange there is not an option to change this in the main Settings menu
under "Storage & USB" !?! I wonder why the developers did not put it there?

PC not recognizing SD card pictures on my S7

When I plug my S7 into the USB port on my PC (windows 7 64 bit Pro) I get a "folder" for the Galaxy S7 and beneath it a folder for the "card". That's fine. When I dig down into the card, I go to the DCIM folder and down below that to where I store my pictures. But when I try to open those pictures with my usual photo editor (Polyview - an oldie but a goodie that works with every other jpg I have) nothing happens. I just downloaded Irfanview 64 bit and the same thing: it does not recognize the jpg's on my card. What gives?? How can I access the card as though it was a standard card via the usb? On my old phone (an S2) I would go through the settings menu to where I could tell it to connect via usb. The s7 doesn't seem to have a similar option. I did the magic to open up the "developer options" under settings but don't know where to go from there. I see something that says "USB configuration" with options under it for MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) and some other options, but don't know what they mean. What do they mean?
There is also a "USB Debugging" option, but again, what does that do?
Is there any "Android Mashmallow for Idiots" book out there I can read?
You have to use the MTP option. If that still doesn't work get a different USB cable, preferable the one that came with the phone.
I am using windows 10 but as I remember after connecting my phone with the usb cable I waited for the computer to identify the phone and when I tried to view the content of my phone to pc I got a message on my phone that asks me if I give permission ,I accepted it and all ok

Thanks for the idea, but I'm already using the cable that came with the phone.

same thing happened when I first plugged the phone in to my Win7 box. I can see the card folder, but the images on it don't react the same way as every other jpg does from any other device. I don't know if this is a marshmallow issue, or a Samsung galaxy s7 issue.

Disconnecting during PC USB file transfer

I am trying to move my music files over to my SD card. However, shortly after I begin the transfer, my 6X disconnects from my PC. I have USB debugging mode enabled. No matter how small or large the file transfer, this always seems to happen after a minute or two. I have tried multiple USB ports on my computer and nothing seems to be working. Has anyone else had this issue and knows how to resolve it?
Thx
Seems banal, but... Have you tried another USB cable? How do you transfer files, while on MTP mode right?
I've tried multiple cables all with the same results, including the cable that came with the phone. BTW my phone is not rooted or anything. I do use MTP mode as I select "Allow Access" instead of "Charge Only" on my phone when it is first connected to the PC. The connection seems fine when browsing the phone's storage using Windows Explorer, even when copying files to my PC. This problem only seems to happen when transferring files to the phone. The transfer will proceed normally for a short time and then the phone disconnects and disappears from Explorer, and has to be reconnected before I can see it again.
Ok. The transfers are interrupted while the screen is off, or also when it's on?
I have tried with "Stay Awake" both enabled and disabled and unfortunately the problem is still happening. I think maybe just using an SD reader would be easier lol
That's really weird. Are you on stock or on custom rom? Because if you're on custom, or at least you have unlocked your bootloader and flashed TWRP, you could try to check if the issue persists when you transfer files to the phone using MTP through custom recovery also.
Unfortunately I'm using the stock rom
